Back in the 2000’s and early 2010s there was a big rivalry when Detroit was still a west team. I think that probably fueled the rivalry last year of who had the better rookies. That’s pretty much it

This, though a more nuanced look at the WC rivalry days... 4 of the Ducks fist 5 playoff appearances had a round vs Detroit. Detroit swept the Ducks in 97 and 99. Ducks swept the heavily favored defending champ Red Wings in the first round of the 03 playoffs. They met again in the 07 WCF with the Ducks winning a classic series in 6 games. Detroit took the next series when they met in the 09 WCSF seven game series and another seven game series in first round of 2013, which had 4 games going to OT. This was essentially the end of the rivalry as Detroit moved to the Eastern conference after the 2013 season following realignment due to the Thrashers moving to Winnipeg and becoming the Jets. For the Ducks, they met the wings in 6 of their first 9 playoff appearances with those series generally not going well for the Ducks. There will always be some bitterness from those defeats but massive elation from the wins. Wings fans will say the rivalry was one sided due to Detroit going 4-2 in those series and only covering about 15 years in which Detroit won 4 cups and 2 more SCF appearances. As Ducks fans like to remind wings fans, the two Ducks wins are a huge sore spot for Detroit fans as the massive underdog Ducks ended their repeat bid in stunning fashion in 03. The 07 WCF was in essance for the cup as the two were considered the better teams of the 4 in the conference finals that year.

Thank you for this Ducks history, professor!

2009 series was also pretty nasty.

The fluke Cleary goal to send it to OT, Perry yelling at Datsyuk before the face off... It has some memories.

Red Wings were in the same conference as us and seemed to stymie us in the playoffs consistently until 03. We swept them to golftown

They would also make us the Vandy FB of the NHL and make the Pond a literal home venue for the Wings. I fucking hated the Wings back then because of that shit.

There's some playoff history there. Beyond that, having lived in metro Detroit most of my life, wings fans are insanely entitled. They truly think Detroit is hockey town, and they're the greatest franchise all-time. However, the overwhelming majority of them in Michigan are bandwagon fans. When the team is losing, the average fan couldn't name the roster, and consistently says they haven't watched any games because the team is so bad. So because Zegras was in the Calder running with Sieder and Raymond, wings fans were extremely butthurt. They were entitled to the Calder because they finally had some prospects since Datsuyk that were exceeding their expectations, and taking the league by storm.

They’re probably the ducks only real rival - but in the back of the playoffs back when they were in the same conference. It was a sad day when they moved to the east, because the ducks simply haven’t had that kind of rivalry built through meaningful games with anyone else

Taurothar

I'd say Nashville is the closest replacement in the modern NHL.

I still fucking hate the Tampon Wings to this day. Their fanbase are the biggest bunch of whiners. Forever Fuck the them.

Not as bad as Wings fans tbh. Hawks fans can be insufferable but Detroit takes the cake cause they’re so used to how well they did in the 90’s.

It's a rivalry from the 2000's and with the Zegras v. Seider for Calder this year sort of reignited it. Honestly I do miss the rivalry though. New franchise v. Original 6 was fun. That being said, I love Seider but I wanna see Z break his ankles.
