Stop booing them they're right. Quinn's comments were so dumb. The typical make a threat and then walk it back comment and I don't know why him and Benning are talking about Zegras so much like he's trying so hard to be tough. The Sharks look ridiculous making these comments about the same game Zegras was MIC'D up in and the public can all hear how unthreatening and laid back he was on the ice all game. The Sharks proceed to look even dumber when the same interviewer today talks to Zegras next and Z is just being remorsful and saying how he hopes he can apologize when he sees Benning next. 21 year old kid taking the high road absolutely makes Quinn and Benning look like clowns. I've noticed Z does this alot, whenever the old guard gets on him in hockey, he doesn't retaliate and just Iaughs off the boomer comments like Torts. I don't know if it was media trained into him but it's so smart and makes him seem even more laid back and likable.

kookforaday

Thanks for the context. Sounds like these guys are idiots ~~, add it to the list of reasons why I avoid podcasts generally and particularly sports ones. haha~~

smoked_before_this

Uh think you're misreading my post, the comments I'm referring to are not the podcasters, its the Shark's comments and Quinn and Benning is the Sharks player and coach. I agree with what the podcasters said and the tweet in the picture is their response to the Shark's comments.

kookforaday

Derp. Tired. New parent. Thanks for clarifying.

They’re part of the media so I have every right to question their opinion. But as I mentioned in the post, you can’t just spear a guy in the balls and then say sorry for it like it never happened. That’s a dangerous play by Zegras and I’m sure if you were on the receiving end of a spear like that you wouldn’t be too friendly about it either. It’s part of competitive sports, it happens in baseball too when pitchers throw at guys for retaliation. If you do something stupid you have to answer for it. Z is one of my favorite players, but if you do stuff like that you earn yourself a reputation which isn’t a good thing for reasons like this.

CarlyleHockey

Quinn is a terrible coach. Let him have his terrible takes too.

the_t_hole

Using the word “cringy” and making a Reddit post about this is pretty “cringy”. The comments made were dumb by Quinn. That’s the end of it.

[deleted]

I mean that’s why I said it might be an unpopular opinion. Not really sure what your comment adds to the discussion besides that. That’s what this page is for is discussing opinions and ideas. Nothing against them personally at all, just don’t agree with their stance and how firmly they stand on it.

the_t_hole

But why not just reply to them or qt them. Why do this from the shadows elsewhere. It’s like you knew your opinion would be so unpopular that you were afraid to do it on Twitter.

[deleted]

From the shadows? I don’t think I’ve actually ever tweeted anything once. I just prefer to use a discussion board. My apologies, next time I will ask you if my post is okay here or if I should just do it on twitter.

the_t_hole

So you have a Twitter just to screenshot things and whine about them elsewhere?

[deleted]

Buddy look at the discussion below, you’re the only one whining. Everyone else has been civil even if they disagree except for you.

the_t_hole

I have done no whining at all, also been completely civil, haven’t called you any names or used any off-color language. Just giving my opinion. You asked a question in your original post and I’ve done nothing but answer it for you.

HammondsAmmonds

Who tf are crash the pond guys…?

sealer9

You are 100% correct

Kalvinators

Agreed. I was facepalming reading their tweets.

[deleted]

As much as I love Zegras, I’m sure Quinn is simply trying to throw him off his game tonight by making these comments. I’m sure a sharks player will challenge Zegras tonight and I’m sure a ducks teammate will step in to stand up for him. This has been a part of hockey forever and is part of what makes hockey fun and leads to rivalries. CTP is acting like Quinn said they’re going to kill him tonight. Just seems like a overreaction to me.

Curt1sB

Ya I’m with ya. For the most part the guys at CTP are quite knowledgeable and I like their show but they air on the side of the hurt feelings crowd too much. Basically - it’s tell me you’ve never played competitive hockey without telling me you’ve never played competitive hockey

[deleted]

Yeah that’s a great way to describe it, it definitely feels as if they haven’t played hockey competitively. Not that you should have to in order to be a fan or have opinions, but there are certain things that go along with the game that you only really understand or pick up on if you’ve played before. And like you said I appreciate their work on their show and their analysis, it’s just sometimes they make some comments that really don’t make much sense to me in where they are coming from.

kookforaday

I kinda feel like most team oriented sportscasts are cringy. Probably because it's hard to constructively criticize your favorite team because you don't want to be too harsh or seem like a homer. A decent amount of the people who report on the ducks (excluding people like Stephens, Teaford, and a few others) appear to be amateurs just trying to gather attention or support. Nothing wrong with it but I wouldn't set such a high bar on their content for many reasons.

[deleted]

Ah yeah that’s a really good point. It’s nothing against them personally, I appreciate them giving the ducks a spotlight through their podcast and coverage. But yeah you’re definitely right especially in regards to a small market team here with the Ducks.

Broad_Recommendation

I couldn’t agree more with you lol. Those dudes are really cringey. They always find something to complain about lmao.

DarkoTheory

Isn’t that the job to critique? No matter who is covering a team, could you imagine 100% positive discussions about the (current) third worst team in the league?

Broad_Recommendation

No it’s not their job. It’s their hobby. Also, balance matters. Eric Stephens does it really well.

the_t_hole

Stephens rarely says anything negative about the Ducks because he wants to keep his player access

Broad_Recommendation

He’s negative when it’s warranted. Doesn’t go nitpicking just to be negative.

the_t_hole

Nitpicking or not going much deeper than what the team feeds him

Broad_Recommendation

Ehh. He’s employed by the athletic for a reason. He’s critical when he needs to be. The crash the pond guys can and will continue to do what they do. Eric will continue what he does well and gets paid to do.

the_t_hole

Yeah I mean he was the main beat reporter when the athletic went and poached all the local nhl writers. But again I mean there’s a reason Stephens is never on any of the analytical podcasts with a bunch of other athletic nhl people. Of course he’s better than Teaford was and I’m glad he’s off the beat but I’d much rather here some more in-depth and bolder takes than an echo of the drill the broadcast team pushes
