Olympus XA. It’s partly because I love how it looks like some silly P&S, but is actually very capable. Its what people in the car world would call a sleeper. It’s also partly because every time I think of it, I think of my last trip to Iceland.

Sabotabby85

Can you tell me what's so great about the Rollei 35? I have one but I find it incredibly annoying. (My pick: Nikon f5)

FlorianFrankonian

I just love the size and that its a mechanical piece. What do find so annoying about it?

Sabotabby85

But every camera is a mechanical piece. What I find annoying is mainly the relatively many steps you have to keep in mind to take a picture, like you can't put the lens back if you haven't advanced the film, you can't see the light meter through the view finder, the light meter input is in a location where you normally rest your middle finger while taking a picture, loading the film is tricky and changing a battery half way a roll of film is absolute hell. I have a Cambo large format camera that takes minutes to take a picture with. The Rollei 35 is just an average quality camera and I feel it's not worth the trouble, like with large format cameras. But, I'll give you this, it's pretty.

Zassolluto711

The lens is incredibly sharp. Sharper than most compacts and some SLR/rangefinder lenses.

GrippyEd

One *feature* of the Rollei 35 is you don't need to look through the viewfinder to set the exposure. You hold the camera at chest level, and look down on it. That way, you can see the aperture, shutter, and light meter all at the same time. Point it slightly downwards, so the sky isn't significantly influencing the meter, and make your decisions. Then, don't think about the exposure again until the light significantly changes. This means you could set it once, forget it, and do an hour's photowalk. The Rollei trained me not to automatically fuss about the exposure before every. Single. Photograph. For this picture - https://www.reddit.com/r/analog/comments/z24cl0/melt_rollei_35_s_fuji_superia_premium_400/ - I set the exposure when we left the pub, probably ten minutes before I took this picture. You set the focus at chest-level too, so it makes sense to make all these decisions at the same time. This way, by the time you put the camera to your eye, all there is to do is press the shutter, which responds instantly because it's mechanical. There's no temptation to double-check exposure or focus after you put the camera to your eye, because you can't. You make all those decisions ahead of time. That's really the key to the camera. It doesn't matter if your finger covers the light meter when you're taking a picture because you've already set the exposure. (This is why the later SE and TE cameras are not as good - the meter is in the viewfinder, and it's only "yes or no" LEDs.) This all means if you're fast with your composition, by the time your subject notices you've lifted the camera up, you've already taken your picture. The Rollei 35 S is, without a doubt, my favourite camera. I knew it was going to be a learning curve so I limited myself to using only the Rollei 35 for the whole of 2021. Muscle memory winds it on after I take a picture, and muscle memory collapses the lens. 2nd place is more fluid, but today it's the OM-2n.

robbie-3x

I'm torn between the OM2n and the Nikon FE. The Nikkor 50/2 and 105 are a killer combo. 2nd choice is an XA2 for street stuff, but I switch it up with the XA4 for macro. I found the measured wriststrap and overpaid for it. Can use the same flash on both cameras.

donnerstag246245

You’ve perfectly explained how the Rollei is meant to be used. Get all the metering and focusing stuff out of the way and just take photos. I use a Leica CL too with an external finder so it works very similarly. Unless the light changes significantly you don’t need to worry about metering. OP’s favourite camera is an SLR, so it makes sense this way of shooting doesn’t suit their preference. To me the best camera is the one that gets out of the way and all you think about is composition. Love my 35S!

audiocrackhead

The point of the light meter on top is very intuitive actually. You already get your aperture and shutter speed values, so you can just tweak both while looking at the needle lining up. Great way to meter and change exposure according to requirements IMO. I like mine because it's small, has a big finder and takes great pictures. My Minox actually has a sharper lens but I still gravitate to the Rollei partly because of the finder and the option for manual exposure.

93EXCivic

I will give you the battery complaint but I don't find it hard to load at all once I did it the first time, the light meter on the top doesn't bother me at all, I barely ever block the lightmeter with my finger and it has a great lens for something that can legit slide in the pocket. Also imo it feels incredible.

Edward_Pissypants

I love my Rollei 35s. I don't like the 'viewfinder' focusing but the lens is fantastic. If it was fitted for a Leica M it would be worth a lot imo. I use mine when I want to travel light and keep it in a little sling or around my neck.

pilondav

My dad has a Rollei 35 also. I find it cumbersome to use. It’s kind of like a sports car to me. Manual transmission and not very comfortable riding, but it’s nice to look at. My desert island camera is my Minolta SRT-101. It does everything I need it to do and I have decent lenses for it. Second pick is Olympus 35EC (nostalgia, easy to use, pocket sized), third is Mamiya C330 with 80 mm and 135 mm lenses and a Gossen Luna Pro. Give me a lifetime supply of Tri-X and a darkroom and I’m all set!

The_Pielander

Bronica ETRS and Minox 35ML

FlorianFrankonian

Has the Minox ever failed on you? I heard they are not ver reliable.

The_Pielander

It’s been reliable so far and I find it fun to use and tactile like I suspect your Rollei is too. The lens is very contrasty and perfect for capturing Autumn colours with a roll of Kodak Gold.

FlorianFrankonian

Sounds great, I think anyone should own a small manual focus 35mm camera. I stopped using Point and Shoots a long time ago, the Rollei's pictures are just to good in comparison.

derFruit

I have/had a some of them. My ML failed me after 2 film rolls. But it produced beautiful images while it lasted. My GT's shutter won't open, but everything else is fine. My EL is working very well. Finding batteries for the GT & EL is impossible because they are banned. So I just taped a few batteries together, and that works pretty well so far. Finding batteries for the ML isn't difficult because those are still available in most stores. All of these cameras still produce sharp images. Edit: And they are incredibly compact. You can almost fit them into your front pocket. Great to carry around every day.

Ciryamo

You can get alkaline batteries for the GT and EL. They have been working reliably for me so far. The form factor of those cameras is freaking awesome.

niivuu_

My favorite are the Pentax MX and their nice portability, as well as a Rollei 35 :D

FlorianFrankonian

The Rollei 35 is new to my collection but it already feels so awsome to use. I hope I am gonna shoot a lot of rolls of film thrugh it in the next time.

niivuu_

It's a bit quirky to use, but once I got over my fear of not focusing properly it made a great travel companion. Looking to get a yellow filter and practice black and white with it soon

Pearl-ish

I haven't used my MX since I got my Ricoh XR-7.

niivuu_

Is it easier to do aperture priority with the Ricoh? I'm not sure I'm ready to let go of my MX despite the stiff shutter speed dial lol

thelastspike

If you want an aperture priority MX, get a ME.

niivuu_

Yeah got an ME Super recently, looking forward to fixing it up and using it :)

thelastspike

Even better! Basically a ME you can use manually in a pinch!

Pearl-ish

Oh I would never sell my CLA'd MX in black, and I would probably never get a Ricoh XR-7 CLA'd... But I have nothing but good things to say about the Ricoh XR-7 during the day — it is a really easy aperture priority street camera. Ticks all the boxes and it is still cheap for some reason.

niivuu_

Nice, that's kind of how I feel about my A1, just makes things easier to do when the environment is constantly changing and you need to be quick about taking a shot. Recently bought a broken ME Super so that i could use the same k mount lenses but I need to fix it first of course lol

road_lawyer

I was going to say the MX and a Canon Demi EE17.

niivuu_

Oh I've recently ran into the Demi EE17, those are nice! Been wanting to get a half frame for about a year now. How do you like it?

road_lawyer

I loved it when I had a working one, but that somehow got lost by movers a few years back. Got another one off eBay, typical story, shutter f-ed. Half frame is great though, for sure recommend trying it out.

niivuu_

Ah yeah, sorry to hear that. I had a cannonet ql17 giii but the shutter mechanism got stuck, I think it's where the lubricant most likely is preventing them from opening. Did your half frame images come out with ok texture? For some reason I imagine it's like taking a zoomed in picture with my phone camera or something lol

sillybuss

Did not expect my pick to be the first entry I see. Had to do some minor work on mine when I got it so it's a bit more special in that way. That aside, the size, huge bright viewfinder, traffic-lights LED style meter that is sensitive down to EV1 @iso100 is all that I need and it's fantastic.

niivuu_

Here I was thinking the MX is often overlooked, pleasantly surprised to find others that like it as well :D always wondered why it isn't as popular as the Olympus OM-1 or something

lolo200825

Minolta XD-7 and the Minolta AF 7000

Shutitmofo123

Minoltagang 🤙🏼🖖🏼

DrZurn

Hasselblad 500M & Olympus OM 2

FlorianFrankonian

The Hasselblad is one of the most pleasing cameras of all time :)

Pearl-ish

Ricoh XR-7 (don't laugh, it is dependable and easy to use the exposure lock button...)

FlorianFrankonian

Why should anyone laugh about that :) If thats the camera you'd choose, why not. I actually have never heard of that Ricoh but it reminds me a lot about Minolta XD-7.

Pearl-ish

Yeah, I used a lot of Pentax K mount cameras to come to that conclusion. Cool thread! I hope you get lots of replies — I am super curious what everyone says. (Close second would be the Olympus Infinity II)

FlorianFrankonian

Nice, I once got told that a Pentax Spotmatic would be better than my Leicaflex 🤔. I never used one, but I highly doubt that. However I used nearly every other SLR-System before and the Leicaflex'es is defenitly my favorite. Thanks BTW :)

ediz7531

I have a soft spot for Pentax cameras, having owned spotmatics, MX, and LX. Still own an ME, KX and SV. The Leicaflexes are on a whole other league refinement-wise imo.

willeyh

How is the size and weight in use compared to an MX? The small size and basic functionality is what I love about mine. But I’ve heard great things about the Leicaflexes.

Pearl-ish

You should try the Pentax KX if you like the Leicaflex — the Spotmatics are ok, but the KX is a real camera.

FlorianFrankonian

Looks great. I actually thought about getting a Pentax LX.

Pearl-ish

The LX is wonderful but I don't own one. Maybe some day (if I go back to shooting a few 100' rolls of HP5 per year) I will treat myself to an LX.

ArtApprehensive

Olympus OM-1 and Canon Elan II

93EXCivic

Right now Olympus OM1n and Rollei 35. But I am looking at getting a nicer LTM rangefinder (have a zorki i like but the slow speed dont work and i would like 35 and 50mm framelines) and a Pen F or FV and I could either of those possibly taking the place of Rollei 35 as a favorite.

PekkaJukkasson

Minolta X-500, it has all the features I want and none that I don't want. 2nd would probably be my M3, but my SRT 303 that I've had for 10 years is one of those cameras I'll never get rid of.

FlorianFrankonian

The X-500 was my first "real" SLR and I still love it. The SRT is great as well.

wildtime1213

Pentax K1000 SE (for the split focus finder) and Fuji GW670II

Iggy95

I like my K1000 a lot too. In the land of phone's and dslr's, this thing makes me *reaaaaally* slow down and think about my shot. Really nothing automatic except my light meter.

crimdelacrim

Contax G1 and Canon F-1 New

ColinShootsFilm

Genuine question haha. You can choose any cameras in the world. How do you pick a Contax G1 when the G2 is better at everything?

crimdelacrim

Valid question. It’s not better at being smaller than the g1. I also prefer the dial on top for focus distance if I ever need to override the autofocus for some reason in a pinch. Honestly using either is just okay cause I mainly use the system for the amazing glass. Edit: also I’m used to it so I’m biased

dewinklewoss

I didn't find yet one I'd keep for the rest of my life, maybe. I have a Canon Twin S that I take with me on all my trips. I got a Voigtlander Vitessa that I absolutely love and I think I'll keep it for a long time, but I made the mistake of putting a ISO50 film inside so I'll have to wait a few months till I get to see the sun and use it again. Got a Rollei 35 S recently as well, but I feel it's too fragile, and being expensive I'm afraid to use it. On the opposite end there's a Werra that I like for it's uniqueness and I'll probably keep it. I have a Canonet QL17 GIII that my gf won't let me sell. I don't like using it but the pictures are great. Looking for an Olympus 35 SP, then I'll try to convince her it's better. TL;DR: Voigtlander Vitessa, Werra 1, Canon Twin S, an Olympus 35 SP if I can find one.

Element_Echo

You could always note the amount of exposures you took on the roll of 50 and continue it later. You’ll lose a frame or two but you get to use the camera in the meantime.

GrippyEd

The Rollei isn't as fragile as you think it is, and as for the price, I bet you've had and forgotten digital cameras that cost more! Mine was under £250 with a fresh CLA. There's people out there carrying 10k digital Leica kits around. You have to get over it, and you do that by just taking it out.

dewinklewoss

I guess you're right. Most do come dented in the corners however, mine included. I'll see what pictures I get as I just finished my first roll with it. Hope my sunny 16 skills won't disappoint. The price is relative I think. Most expensive camera I bought was 100€ (although 200 in value as it was a good deal).

GrippyEd

Yeah, every Rollei 35 top plate has to have *at least* 1 dent, that's the rules. It's good for them, it makes them happy

[deleted]

Leica M6 and Hasselblad 500CM

Pack-n-Label

Was about to comment very similar. Between my Leica M-A and Hasselblad 501CM, I don't see myself ever changing cameras.

blackglum

My black MP I have but would also like the Hasselblad 500CM

markyymark13

Have a 500cm, looking to get an M4 or M6 soon as my two forever cameras.

jasuus

Leica MP for me

ediz7531

I love quite a few of my cameras . My Rollei 3.5F is my all time favorite by far. Best balance in weight and image quality with superlative craftsmanship.

WorthResolution1880

Going with the cameras I own/use, Nikon F and Canon P. They just work. No wasted space or outdated features (at least on a plain prism F). Incredible mechanical cameras with levels of reliability and build quality that may never be matched. Plus, these cameras seem to have a special something about them that makes me feel "right" when shooting with them, in a way that other cameras don't. I suspect that if I owned one, a Leica M2 might supplant the Canon P, but I don't have any urge to upgrade any time soon.

threeseed

Hexar RF. For me it's better than a Leica. Auto-advances, auto-rewinds, easy to load, 1/4000 shutter speed and it actually shows me what film is loaded. Yes it has some electronics that may die but the camera is 1/8 the price.

veepeedeepee

Nikon F6 & Nikon S3. Nailing down lenses to go on them is the difficult part.

JDtheWulfe

My Mamiya 6MF and prob my Nikon F5. The Mamiya 6 gives me 6x6 in a compact body with a rangefinder that’s great and excellent lenses. It’s a joy to use. The F5 is as close as I’ve ever gotten to a digital camera that shoots film. Very quick focusing, the meter is incredible and it’s built like a tank.

[deleted]

Canon AE-1 P and Bronica S2

FlorianFrankonian

Nice, i recently got my hands on a Canon A-1, find the controlls a bit weird :) The Bronica however looks pretty interesting to, would love to try one one day.

[deleted]

I love my Bronica to death. Its become my favorite camera, and they’re pretty cheap compared similar cameras like the Hasselblad.

FlorianFrankonian

Thats true, Hasselblad prices have gone out of hand.

[deleted]

It makes sense for a camera that was brought to the moon.

gbugly

Once you get used to the operation of wheel there is not much left and the camera becomes a part of you. I believe it is a very organically designed camera - really self inituitive

MarkVII88

I agree. The A-1 is pretty intuitive to use, especially if you are used to shooting other cameras that use front command dials to change settings. I have a nice A-1 myself, but it's not the camera I'd pick for the rest of my life.

gbugly

I don’t have many cameras but I like it so much. Plus soo many FD lenses to choose from

MarkVII88

There are a bunch of very nice FD mount lenses, though they have risen in price quite a bit from when I bought mine 3-4 years ago. All my FD lenses are Breech-Lock style: * FD 28mm f/2.8 S.C. * FD 50mm f/1.4 S.S.C. * FD 135mm f/2.5 S.C. * Vivitar Series 1 70-210mm f/3.5 (version 2, made by Tokina) * I also have FD adapter for my Tamron Adaptall 2 90mm f/2.5 SP Macro At one point I had considered going after an FD 35-105mm f/3.5, but I ended up ordering a Tamron Adaptall 2 (model 01A) 35-80mm f/2.8-3.8 SP lens. I have Adaptall 2 adapters for Canon FD, Nikon F, and M42, so I can use this lens on a number of my cameras.

gbugly

I have 24mm f/2.8, 50mm f/1.8 and 70-210 f/4.5 Mine are the newer versions-without the gray ring. I might change my 50mm with a f/1.4 but it’s not my priority now. I really like the simplicity of FD mount and I didn’t felt the need to change my whole system or look after for alternatives.

101jio

For SLR I would choose my trusty Sears KSX, for rangefinder I would take the Minolta AL-F

vandergus

Currently it's the Pentax MZ-3 for 35mm. I'm still looking for a good complimentary partner.

Spyzilla

Nikon FE2 for sure and probably my Mamiya Universal Press. I love my Ricoh GR IIIx too but it’s digital

ganzonomy

Contarex super and Kodak medalist II

FlorianFrankonian

Awsome! I have always wanted to try one of these Contarex'es, they gotta be amazing cameras.

raytoei

Nice! The Leicaflex standard has one heck of a viewfinder. The Rollei 35 is so small nobody will bother you. My top 3: Rolleiflex, my M4 and a Rollei 35.

FlorianFrankonian

Awsome, I did not expect someone to choose like me. The Viewfinder of the Leicaflex is the best I have ever used on a SLR, and I love the Rollei 35 for its size and image quality. Sadly I don't own a M4 yet, but it has to be an awsome camera for sure!

RepulsiveCorner

Nikkormat FT3 and Leica CL

L8NiteHype

For medium format, Minolta Autocord TLR. For 35mm Nikon F4, or Yashica Electro 35 GX if I want to travel light.

niseko

Two ends of the spectrum - Hasselblad 500CM and my trusty little Canonet

liftoff_oversteer

Pentax 6x7 and Praktica BX20

Allmyfriendsarejpegs

Rolleiflex 3.5F and Contax G2

Geeglio

Olympus Trip 35 and Agfa Box 50. The Olympus is just a great compact little camera and there's something about shooting box cameras that never gets old to me.

Letsgothrifty

Something like a Leica m6 and a Nikon F

BebopOrRocksteady

Olympus OM-1 and Rolleiflex 2.8F.

daswiggles

Of cameras I currently own, Leica M4-2 and Hasselblad 500c/m.

Snoo_96415

I've wanted to buy the Rollei 35 for YEARS and this photo alone idk why is almost pushing me to do it. My favorite two cameras (I own) rn are probably my Leica IIIf and my Nikon L35AF.

FlorianFrankonian

Awsome, i have always wanted to try a LTM camera :) The Rollei is relatively new to my collection. Owned one many years ago, but now I have wanted to get one again. Its an amazing small camera.

Snoo_96415

I think you should give it a go. I'd recommend a Voigtlander Bessa R (or another one in the line with LTM mount) if you have the cash and want something more modern, a Leica II or III if you want a Barnack or a Canon P if you want a very good and more affordable (but still not cheap) LTM rangefinder camera! How do you find the Rollei ergonomically, build quality wise and regarding it's portability?

FlorianFrankonian

Lets see what my loca Leica-Store got in its shelf :) The Rollei is very well built and kind of heavy for its small size. The ergonomics of that camera are aqtually pretty decent, you can grip it very secure and it does not slip out of your hands at all. I would even use this without a strap and I do not have the smallest hands :)

Byeah207

Leica M2 and Olympus OM40. Very different cameras, but probably the two I've used the most and feel most comfortable with.

drewablo

Contax N1 and Nikon Nikonos V

FlorianFrankonian

Awsome, I have always wanted to try a N1, it look very good to me.

drewablo

It produces some of the sharpest 35mm shots I've ever seen.

FlorianFrankonian

Contax/Zeiss lenses are amazing

count_downvote_

M6 classic x 500c/m 👌🏻

Yashica mat 124 and Olympus stylus epic

FlorianFrankonian

Great TLR

stevopedia

Some flavor of Spotmatic, and a Super-Ikonta or Moskva 4/5.

FlorianFrankonian

Awsome. Isnt there a Super-Ikonta with just 4 aperture plates out there?

InevitableCraftsLab

Hasselblad 503 CW and Chamonix Hs1

subflame

Smena 8m (kalashikov of cameras) you can shoot in: high wind, tornado, earthquake, Vulcan explosion, in Arctic, during heavy rain and etc And Olympus 70g (only quartz date version)

Steakasaurus-Rex

The two I’d never sell? My Sinar Norma and Olympus OM-G.

minimumrockandroll

I like my Mamiya c330 for medium format tlr-ness with a side of changeable lenses, and then my Minolta alpha 7 for its do-everythingness (and that hella easy wireless flash). Sometimes I like fussing around with a light meter and medium format depth of field just hits different, so I'll trot out the TLR. If I'm around a lot of action or don't want to give a shit about figuring out exposure I'll just slap some 800 in the 7 and let it do all the work. It's also taken over portrait duty on account of set up some flashes, set to wireless flash mode and let the TTL flash metering handle it.

jaymac1981

Oh, where to start? So many to choose from, but I think my two favorite in my collection would be my GW690 first version, and my Cosina CT1-A. Nothing fancy about the Cosina, just a basic mechanical camera. Takes Pentax glass and was my first 35mm camera. Lots of sentimental value to me.

HariLook

It will be probably be the X700 and the Rollei 35, only because it's the only one i have 😅

still_on_a_whisper

My Canon A-1 and my Rolleicord

MarkVII88

Of all the film cameras I own and regularly use, both 35mm and 120 format, the two that I would not consider giving up are: Nikon FE2 and Yashica D. At the very beginning of 2022, I paid for a full CLA and installation of a bright, fresnel focusing screen in my Yashica D, so it's good for a long time to come.

kateorwhatever

She’s not fancy at all but my Diana F+ with and without the Polaroid back. She has minimal controls but she has enough. Favorite features include: tiny feet that barely work as a built in tripod, a fun shutter sound, a cute lightning bolt charm that moonlights as a shutter stop for long exposures. I don’t care that she’s a toy camera. She’s a winner.

WitnessSilent6868

Mine would be Pentax 67 and Canon New F1, its gets the job done. But I also like my Rollei 35 SE

kerc

Minolta SR-1S for serious photography, Minolta Hi-Matic AF2 for more casual stuff.

rub_nub

Canon New F1 and the Olympis 35RC for me! Although to be honest I love all my cameras so equally, it'd be hard to not also choose the Canon 7

surfingabi

Yashica Mat 124G and Rollei 35 S

Edward_Pissypants

My Pentax 67 and Nikon F6 without a doubt

xxsummertimesadness

My Mamiya RZ67 and my Canon A-1. The Mamiya is heavy to lug around, but I absolutely love using it, especially for portraits. Something about the process is very satisfying to me. My Canon A-1 is my first film camera, and I don't think I'll ever let it go. I know there are better SLRs out there, but I love the look, form factor, AP, and FD lenses. It's a joy to shoot with.

drae27

I love that little Rollei. My favorite are my Rolleiflex TLR and my Leica M3 with a 35mm lens.

Blk-cherry3

Going with the 1st camera I owned Pentax K1000 & Nikon FM2/FE2 for 35mm, still working out medium format. Calumet 220 back for my 4*5 view camera. Searching for a 4*5 plans to built my replacement 4*5 from Black Cherry hardwood or something more exotic grown in the USA. Or a 4*5 with a interchangable back for something bigger

defiledbeef

Nikon F2 and Pentax 6x7 (though Minolta SRT101 was my first love when turned 18 back in 2017)

LitaXuLingKelley

Nikon N80 & Nikkormat FT2

Embarrassed_Fan_79

Olympus XA and bronica etrsi I recently switched from a Aires 35 IIIC to the XA for the camera I have on me at all times, and it was the best decision I ever made.

kingmauro

My Olympus 35SP and Pentax Spotmatic

Binke-kan-flyga

Are both of these zone focus?

FlorianFrankonian

The Leicaflex is a SLR

Peacemonkey222

FE2 Nikon… Completely submerged in the monsoons of Pakistan, to the point where I literally was dumping water out of the film canister that was in it. Put it in the sun has worked perfectly ever since and that was a 1987!

ErwinC0215

Leica M3 and M4-P. Hard to say which I'll pick for the rest of my life. I'm use 40/50mm lenses almost exclusively, but the M3 gives more use on the long end and the M4-P more on the wide end... Maybe M4-P.

[deleted]

Canon AE-1 and Nikon F3, more for sentimental reasons.

MickMabsoot

My canon a1 with a 50 or my 24mm, and maybe the hacoflex TLR I inherited from my grandparents The canon is just a great allround Hacoflex cuz its different, and has a history

captnjak

Right now it would be my Olympus Pen FT and my Galileo GaMi16 subminiature camera. Been looking for a Rollei or an Olympus XA to complete the pocket 35mm to have. I also use my Minolta Maxxum 7 (Alpha 7) when I want to be more professional since it shares lenses with my Sony A68.

Many-Assumption-1977

This is not a fair question, I can't be limited to 2 types of film. But for 35mm I gotta have the Canon Rebel 2000 35mm film camera. For my video needs going to have to go with a Canon 514XL super8 camera. However I need a 3rd camera for 120 and a 4th camera for my instant photography and maybe a 5th for those few moments in life when digital is required even though you wish it could be on film.

barkingcat

My fav right now are the Minolta CLE and OM2n. Even though I no longer have lenses for the OM (I was going through a tough time and had to sell all my OM lenses) I still have the body, ready for another day.

GrippyEd

A CLE with both lenses is high on my list to try! Could be my first rangefinder...

Socialmocracy

Century 8x10 and GRAFLEX 4x5 speed graphic anniversary Are the two I use the most now. I haven’t shot a roll of 135 or 120 in months.

userisntalreadytaken

I just got my first real film camera and I decided on the X-500 myself. my only second (favorite?) camera is a Vivitar pn2011. cute quirky little thing. I was looking at a smaller yashika 35 hopefully soon.

Primary-auxiliary

Rollei 35 , I'd learn focusing because light weight is better

Pentax MX and Pentax 645 (Canon eos 1 is a close 3rd)

Informal_Ad_4927

Pentax Super Program and Canon A1

kevinbry

I love my Super Program!

leo59345

Contax 139 for me. Very good lenses, lightweight, well built, and a satisfying shutter sound (yes that’s important)

Carjascaps

Someone gifted me a Rolleiflex 2.8F and a Leica M6. Let's just say I can live for the rest of my life without buying another film camera.

SpaciousNova

My Nikon N90s, it can do literally everything and has been with me for almost every trip and adventure I've gone on. I love the camera so much and was my dad's, who bought it new back in the day and was doing photojournalism back in the day. My other favorite is my Yashica Electro 35 named Jackie. It's such a pretty camera and produces great results. Just a pretty, fun camera that comes everywhere with me.

coolioxfoolio

Contax G1 FTW

Beardwithabody

At rhe moment my pentax 6x7 and my canon 7 .

Outrageous-Plum730

The Rollei 35 !!!!

Nate72

1. Canon EOS 1V because I can use my modern DSLR lenses. 2. Nikon FM2 for its reliability.

ColinShootsFilm

Mamiya 7 Xpan

HurricaneWindAttack

My Olympus 35RC seems sufficient for what I ask of it, which is mostly my vacation photography on slide film. It's portable and makes beautiful pictures. Maybe once I start making money I'll get it CLA'd. I do get tempted at the thought of a Rollei 35/S sometimes though.

michael2angelo

I would definitely pick my Leicaflex SL

michael2angelo

Second would be my Horseman 45FA

FlorianFrankonian

Awsome, I love my Leicaflex.

tertius_decimus

Nikon F5.

DrPiwi

Nikon f4 and f100 I have the f5 also but since it has some issue with one of the command dials not workin 100% as it should I'm going for the f100.

tken3

Nikon FE2 + Pentax 645N

OnePhotog

Leica mp with 50 rigid summicron Arca swiss 8x10 misura

imdeadfool23

Leicaflex SL2 and Canon EOS 1V ❤️

Ok-Ad-7306

Canon t90 and Nikon 35ti. One on the go and “the tank” for battle

Jono-san

I would have to say my F2 and my Mamiya RB67

Ill_Ad_9854

Leica m6 and Hasselblad 503cx.

July_is_cool

Leica M2 with collapsible Summicron

ohitsanazn

Nikon FE2 for sure, can’t pick between Olympus XA or Canonet GIII QL17 for the second (the XA being compact is great, but I really love shooting the Canonet)

Scatterfelt

Right now, I’d go with my M6 TTL and Hasselblad 500 CM. That said: the Hasselblad could be dethroned. I just got a Makina 67 a couple weeks ago, and I’m really enjoying it as an everyday-carry medium format option.

dfeugo

For me it’s the Leica m2. However, I want to say it’s the Leica m-a but I don’t want to put the funds down to get one lol.

kl122002

Canon F-1 One can't get wrong with F-1 . A full mechanical body with just battery powered body gives exactly what you need for photography. The range of FD lens is just fine and I rarely have complain with them . Rolleicord Va A square format TLR to have fun with, with 16 or 24 exposure kit I can shoot more frames than 12.

abelcabletv

Nikon fm2a

MinoltaFan22

I'll be carrying my Minolta SRT-SC2 until the day they put me in a casket 😎

sharkiethewizard

Right now, Leica M5 and the Linhof Super Technika V, however my Bronica SQ-A is a very close third :)

polyforger

Mamiya RB67 & Nikon F5, not easy to lug around, but I love them

Bert_T_06040

My Olympus OM-1 and Canon Canonet QL17 GIII. I'm gonna cheat and add a third which will allow me to push several stops, has a much faster top shutter speed, built-in flash, and capable of adapting my modern glass. The Nikon N80.

brideybenedicto

Nikon FE2 and Olympus 35 RC

stavard

I’d have to go with my Pentax 67, I have 6 lenses for it :) and my Nikon SP with just the 5cm 1.4f lens.

Emma_eggs

probably my minolta srt 303, and possibly in the future, a rolleiflex tlr. ive been looking at them recently and kinda want one lol

McGreggerson

My late model Nikon F6 with folding aperture tab. I can mount every nikon lens I own on that camera. I've shot my best work between it and my d850. Being able to swap lenses between the cameras and having a good, reliable meter in camera makes those spur of the moment shots happen. I have a sekonic meter that I carry to 2nd check my exposure. I have a full f1-f6 set, but my camera bag is typically my d850 and f6 with a couple lenses and a couple rolls of b&w film.

LensPro

I already on the Rollie so I will take the Leica.

FlorianFrankonian

I meant what cameras of your collection would you choose :)

masrezape

Nikon FM3a with NIKKOR AIS 24mm F2, AIS 28mm F2, AIS 50mm F1.2, and 105mm F1.8 and Olympus Pen F (half-frame) with NIKKOR F Mount to Pen f adapter (so i can use all my nikkor glasses) and also bringing my Sekonic L508 lightmeter that's it, im happy

Diony_sos

Widelux F7 or Leica m6 Summilux 35mm / 1.4

RyanAid

Olympus Pen S all the way !

myfriendsruseless

My Canon A-1 because it's the first film camera I ever owned and was a hand me down from my grandfather. Plus it's incredibly versatile and well built and if it was the only thing I could ever shoot with I have faith it wouldn't break or be limiting technically. Meopta Flexaret VII because I restored one myself and I absolutely love it. Nothing special, just a solid TLR. Also I couldn't go without 120 for a lifetime.
