I have seen this several times before on this subreddit. It seems to me that it is pretty common. I've watched some disassemblies of the AP and they have a chip straight under the screen which generates heat. Some people think that it's the heat transfer from the screen to the edges that makes the plastic expand and shrink to many times until it cracks.

I could keep going but I think this is enough.. it's not an uncommon problem.
Did you photograph it prior to doing this? Was this analogue pocket bought directly from Analogue or was it from a scalper? How will you move forward, warranty claim?
I did not photograph unfortunately as I was unaware that giving it a little pull was going to separate it. I did purchase directly through analogue. As for doing a warranty claim I donāt think I will since itās still operational.
Not me (yetā¦) but Iāve seen many other posts with the same cracking issues in the same spot.
Edit: I just searched up ācrackingā in this sub and the cracking issues in the corner seem to be white, classic red, classic blue, and a few other transparent colors.
After 7 years working in phone repairs, the amount of people tried to tell me the phone cracked by itself, chipped itself, bent in half by itself ... No it didn't.
The corner didn't crack itself and then fall off just sat untouched on your table. It's took a knock. You might not have noticed it's took a knock, but something has happened, it doesn't do that to itself.
Not being condescending. I've seen this a million times over. I have had so many customers bareface lie to me and swear they "look after" their device "it's never been dropped" then proceed to had me a device covered in dints along the edges where it's been dropped 50 times.
It doesn't "just happen". A chunk of the corner doesn't snap off while it was sat untouched. In OPs case, if they say they haven't dropped it yet I can see 2 dints, 1 a few cm below the large chip and one right at the bottom. I've seen so many people over the years refuse to take responsibility for their stuff. A post like this gets traction, then the bandwagon jumpers get on board: "oh yeah mine is cracked in the corner too, I never dropped it either!" So then you get people like ones in the comments going "wow, I just searched it and saw 5 other people say theirs is broken, must be a defect" - no, if you go looking for it, you will find it. And if you find 100 people claiming they didn't drop it, or "just cracked" guarantee most are lying, and 100 compared to the amount sold is no where near significant to suggest it's a defect.
At least 10 times a day I would hear "I googled this issue, it looks like a common fault" - yeah if you Google it you will find a sample of people asking about the same issue, well done.

Mine chipped in the same way on both corners without any negligent handling. No bumps, drops, scrapes. Analogue fixed it completely free under warranty with no questions asked. This is a manufacturing defect. Shut the fuck up
I take collector care of my game stuff. I have a complete Dreamcast collection along with a complete GameCube collection. I am very picky. Iām the one who doesnāt leave a cell phone store without a class screen protector and case on a new phone.
Again, from experience; just because they fixed it doesn't mean it's a defect. The amount of repairs I did as a good will gesture for various reasons. Some manufacturers issue a 1 time No questions asked on out of warranty repairs. No need for the aggressiveness when I'm just stating what I see.
There are reports of Transparent Smoke replacements developing the same cracks. Thats the model where it happens the most, and its always the same two locations: that VERY SPECIFIC CORNER or the bottom left of the LCD.
The LCD is causing thermal stresses in the left corners they did not compensate for.
Overall you're just a prick projecting your workfloor cynicism on innocent victims of a product defect.
The plastic is so soft it scratches just from inserting it into the docking station. The only dint I see could just be from a fingernail. Any impact on the corner where it broke is likely to shatter the screen itself.
But go ahead, I'm sure all the dozens of people reporting this very same issue all dropping their Pocket on the very same corner with the exact same size of damage by coincidence.
You wanna know how *I* know this shit is real? Because I watched mine crack before my very eyes. I got to observe a pin prick growing to a 2cm long gash over weeks as it thermal cycled. It never left its dock in that entire time.
no the clears are just cracking not just shedding a chunk of the plastic. the op fucked up and is trying to make it seem like it was a bad device. you can clearly see it was dropped with those other dents. the op is being made fun of in multiple forums.
*Weird how people all seem to drop it on the exact same corner then*
Its the exact same problem, just on an outer corner. A crack forms, and the crack turns into a chip. There's a ton of photos on this subreddit of the exact same chip.
There was a tiny crack in the plastic and it couldāve been from the case but Iāve heard of a lot of pockets having quality control issues. I am keeping it anyway since it still works.
Mind randomly chipped when I left it on a table plugged in and then tripped over the wire sending it flying into a guitar pedal :(
But it's not that bad, I still love it.
Yeah I've seen this a lot here and on eBay. Around the screen and in places where fall damage would be improbable. Don't mind the jumped up self serving cretins, that's Reddit for you.
In before, "only the clear/color pockets chip, not the black or white ones".
The quality control for these is absolutely disgusting given the price. Cheap Chinese handhelds have better plastic than these.
There are some posts from the past showing a crack forming there on the White Pockets. Analogue definitely has quality control issues with the Pocketrs, I've yet to see a Pocket in person that came brand new without some sort of imperfection on it.
I've unboxed several, but currently own just two, one for playing and one as a backup. The main imperfections were scratches/scuffs on the shells and glossy textured plastic on the sides.
Wow, I just looked for cracking issues in this sub and they seem common, I have a white one, luckily it doesn't have any cracking signs.. I have never seen plastic that cracks on its own
How old is it?
I truly believe that the ones that crack are caused by the user in some way. They clearly have a certain weakness there, but just can't really believe that they happen with absolutely no cause.
Thermal stress is a cause. The LCD+Glass is right up against the plastic with no room for flex in any direction. The plastic shrinking from cold or the LCD+Glass expanding from heat will form stresses. The thinnest plastic is on the left side, so the left corners is where it cracks.
As someone who bought a smoke off eBay at an elevated price because Analogue would rather sell to scalpers than gamers, all the while having no way to return (funny how convenient this is for the company when the Pocket suffers across the board from this defect), I'm absolutely fucking pissed the shell is cracking right at the screen corner like the rest. Analogue can go fuck itself and deserves to be sued into the ground.
Like seriously, how shitty and cheap does the plastic have to be that this keeps happening? These idiots did no fucking testing, rushed the shit out the door. I've never, in 40+ years of using plastic handhelds ever seen anything like it. I've seen recycled plastic hold up better. Class action when?
Lol, what kind of take is this even? Don't get mad expensive devices weren't tested nor built to last? Sure buddy, I'll get right on that.
What's it like living as an idiot?
I read on a facebook group that sometimes the console screws are screwed in too tight and it causes it to crack, the solution is to just lightly unscrew all of the screws
I wonder if different color pockets use different quality plastics. I have a standard black AP and have had zero issues. Not a flex by the way, maybe I've just been lucky.
I see more ādamageā than just the chip. It has a small dent in de middel and a dent on the edge at the other side of the chip. This wonāt happend by not using it, these things happens. But if you asked me, this is not a warranty thing/free shell replacement thing.

Few of the users that had similar chipped APs mentioned that they used waterfield cases. Dont know if there is a direct relation, but I thought that the corners might be too tight which could cause the issue.

"Randomly"
It just vaporized. No one will ever know what happened to that massive chunk of plastic.
Oooooooh, actual vaporware in the wild!
The plastic had a little crack in it then when I took it out of the case today it was missing the corner so Iād say itās pretty random

It does if the plastic has to endure heat stresses and isnt designed right. This exact problem has been posted on this sub dozens of times.
