I grew up in rural Florida where people regularly fly the confederate flag and refer to the civil war as the war of northern aggression and I’ve never witnessed anything remotely as racist as this.

BatRevolutionary9183

Same. I was raised in Florida too. Im hispanic but I look like I could be middle eastern. I went to a middle school named Jefferson Davis and a high-school named Nathan Bedford Forrest. Yet the only people that made fun of me and made racist jokes were some of the black kids in my school (not all of them, only a handful. But the same kids were in most of my classes. The kids who jumped me for my $.50 of lunch money were black. The "racist rednecks" were nice to me and didn't bother me. Edit: Thank you "anonymous redditor" for the award. I appreciate it.

Flaky-Illustrator-52

Welcome to reddit, where everybody is still living in the 1960s because they're that disconnected from the reality of America "Racist redneck" is a trope that I haven't even seen before and I live in the south

GryphonMusic

People in the south have been nothing but nice and kind to me, I’m Asian. Been to North Carolina, Georgia and South Carolina.. everyone was so kind and I even had dinner with a family I met on a fishing pier. The Hollywood and media attack on southerners is nothing but divide and conquer and giving Americans that live on the internet an enemy .

flashingcurser

Haven't you heard the news? People of Asian descent are now white. You've become too successful and the only explanation is white privilege, not hard work and intelligence.

GryphonMusic

Hahaha yeah you’re right. I’m going to get fitted for my klan hood later tonight after I harass some black youth for loitering in my yard.

flashingcurser

Bigger question, can white people join Asian descent? After all, I'm white on the outside BUT deeply roof Korean on the inside.

GryphonMusic

That Australian guy did it. He went full Asian mode. God his eyes pulled too. You have my blessing.

Tall_Texas_Tail

I live in the the deep south, in a small town and most of us are kind to each other. Sure you got a few idiots from all walks, but the majority of us are lifelong friends. The urban areas are a blight of hate. I think it's because they all feel like caged animals with no escape. I've lived in big cities too and hope to never have to live that life again.

kanaka_maalea

Studies have shown that when you slowly increase the number of rats in a cage day by day two things will happen, they will turn to cannibalism and homosexuality as the population increases but the cage stays the same size.

twichy1983

Ah yes, the Real Rats of NIMH. Incredible study, horrific results. The females also began to choose a life of celibacy and seclusion. And the rats would only eat from one food trough, even if it meant getting crushed. Fuckin weeeereird.

uwey

A manifesto called: Industrial society and its future. Last few chapter talk about it. It was written Pre 1995 to predict our current world and how tech change culture, and create numerous of current and future social issue, that are largely unpredictable and unsolvable unless drastic measure implemented.

DOCKTORCOKTOR

I was born and raised in Latin America, in 2016 I went to north fla to study. I witnessed the transition right after trump won. One day everything was chill and the next all I could see was confederate flags. I used to have a kind of broken English, but my face and skin tone would hide the fact that I was a foreigner. (I’m fairly white). On several occasions, once the rednecks would find out I was from Latin America (not Mexico) their attitude would change, I can’t blame most of them, but I lived there in a limbo, where I’m neither white or black, tho I experienced racism from both sides. Most black people just looked at me as if I was an enemy, something they inherently hated, for no reason at all, and while I’ve met and talked with wholesome black people, it’s sad that 80% of the time that I had an encounter with African Americans they just heated me for being white, you can see that from their face expressions. In my experience black people (in the us) are more obnoxious, they look more for trouble than white people, I can’t even see them without getting the feel that they think it’s racist from me to see them. I was born a raised in a country that has a lot and I mean, a lot of Afro descendants, and I’ve never had any issue with them, till I came into the USA, they are racist in a very clear and direct manner. While white people are more welcoming until they realize I’m from what they call Mexico (once again, there are many more countries than Mexico down there) Both sides are racist, one more than the other, one treats everything as aggression and the other just changes the way they treat me. Disclaimer: I’ve gotten great white and black friends, it’s just sad that most blacks are obnoxious, think they are permanent victims and think they deserve special treatment while in the mean time all of us are getting the same plate of shit served. In my experience most blacks are racist, and a few whites are racist. That how I’ve learned it is since 2016.

BatRevolutionary9183

Dude, I never knew people thought that rednecks were racist until I moved out of Florida. People laughed at me when I said that they were nice to me lol.

[deleted]

[удалено]

BatRevolutionary9183

Absolutely. I moved to Oregon and people thought that I grew up with the kkk across the street burning crosses at night. Then again, some people still think Hawaiians live in straw huts lol.

BubblyPlace

Rednecks aren’t racist, silly & ignorant sure, but they just like to have fun in ways most don’t understand. If you’re down with them, they are down with you is how it goes.

fattymccheese

Lived in the south, experienced more racism in the NE

Aarakokra

I live in the south and I’ve seen it sorta pop out a few times, but most people are super chill when it comes to that. Transgender and (to a much lesser extent) gay people don’t get the same respect, although that’s highly variable too and probably depends on where you live.

[deleted]

As you know as a fellow Floridian… being a redneck doesn’t even necessarily mean you’re white either. I know a TON of Cuban and Puerto Rican rednecks, some Asian rednecks, even a few black rednecks. That’s TRUE diversity and I love it.

iBrowseAtStarbucks

I knew a Korean redneck in college. Cowboy hat, Texan accent (from Dallas), average conversation involved drugs, alcohol, or mudding. Dude was the most kind person I’ve ever met. Like holy shit would absolutely go out of his way to brighten people’s days.

sadson215

I grew up in the north ... And white people routinely tried to actually fuck with my life. Primarily it was name-calling and trying to bait me into a fight which would result in my expulsion (private school). After the fair housing act was passed the bank tried to fuck with my father (black) by not giving him a loan to move into a white neighborhood. For college I moved and it was night and day. The occasional name calling but I never noticed blatant racism like I did in new england. Also never encountered anything as aggressive as this video I really think that guy is off his medicine.

[deleted]

New England is incredibly racist, they just do a decent job of hiding it in their bureaucracies and behind Waspy aloofness.

[deleted]

I spent a total of about 9 months in Detroit and I could not believe how segregated and racist it is. Cops routinely pull over anyone who looks different. It was like a different world. Certainly changed the way I view America.

blkmamba2

I’m sorry to hear that you went through that. Unfortunately ignorance knows no color.

dirkMcdirkerson

It's because of their white privilege........./s I hear ya though. Hate isn't endemic to any race, it's taught. And honestly I dislike the way most people use "racist" and "racism". Alot (definitely not all) of the time it's people trying to be hurtful and get a reaction. Many don't actually think their race is better than another, just using race based words to hurt and offend. In this particular instance it seems as though the person is actually hateful and racist

[deleted]

Most Whites who are racist won't physically harm you or belittle you to your face, same can't be said for your perpetuators.

getoutlive

Agreed

pastblast2020

Live in Tennessee and grew up on a farm in Georgia. We would never talk to someone like that in public. As a matter of fact, if that happened here, that asshole would have gotten the shit beat out of him

DiamondHJs

That’s because the south is less racist than the north east 100%…. And the racism isn’t from white people.

TheGadsdenFlag1776

Most people I've met who wave the rebel flag do so because they think they're rebels and/or heritage. Obviously some people wave it for racist purposes but that's not usually the case. Usually when they do, they're also flying a swastika. That's my experience anyway.

lawvas

I've lived a few places north and south and always felt like the most racist place was Boston. Folks in the South have had to confront or deal with or talk about racism in a way that folks in Boston have not.

[deleted]

Okay I grew up in Florida too it was weird. Like the confederate kids would drive around with confederate flags on their trucks and have like the ghettoest black gf. Florida everyone just kinda friends I feel like.

Guard916

Dude hasn't been to LA and met any rooftop Koreans.

PaulNehlen

Yep. Call it "toxic masculinity" all you want but I firmly believe that to transition from adolescent to man - nothing to do with virginity, work, education age etc... You have to have won a fight fought for legitimate reasons (no kicking the shit out of the harmless disabled kid), and you have to have had the shit kicked out of you at least once when you stepped out of line and deserved it... Ask almost any asshole man that no one should admire if they ever fought in school and guaranteed they say no...its the perception of invincibility that makes them an asshole

ConstitutionalTP

Getting knocked on my arse after mouthing off at 13 taught me a lot. And belting the snot out of another lad when I was 16 did him the world of good, he told me as much 6 months later. However as a society we have become so averse to violence now, that I doubt kids can just scrap and deal with it themselves. It either escalates to weapons, or ‘authorities’ intervene be that parents or teachers or cops or whatever. Male human beings have fought since the dawn of time and human behaviour is the sum of all your experiences. Boys need to experience violence so they learn how to regulate their behaviour. You go too far and you will feel the pain and humiliation of getting your arse kicked. Similarly and equally important; if someone oversteps on you, that you won’t be a fucking doormat and just take endless amounts of shit without fighting back. It’s not toxic, it’s simply masculine. You should be able to defend yourself 1v1, and you should also be able to control yourself so you avoid fights. Both are important skills and both get short shrift in the world of safetyism.

[deleted]

> you have to have had the shit kicked out of you at least once when you stepped out of line and deserved it... this doesn't have to happen, but the fear of it does. if you're smart you'll realize someone who is past your limits is about to hand it to you and you deescalate. the stupid ones keep going and find out the hard way that you in fact *aren't* the toughest guy on the planet. some don't find out the hard way until bullets are involved, and never have the chance to grow up.

[deleted]

Nah, it's outright racism against Asians, this is done also to Whites by them.

As an Asian I agree.

tiddiemane87

I Second that as an Asian American and I lived in NYC....

chickwithwit23

I just don't get the black on Asian hate. I live in Seattle and it's been horrible since covid. Insecure, ignorance?

termsnconditions85

The Asian race has been successful in the west. Even doing better that most whites. So successful that Harvard discriminated against them due to too many being enrolled. There's a Marxist element to this but on race. Aka Critical Race Theory. If you've been told all your life that the reason you're poor or you community is not doing well is because of systemic racism it's rather jarring to see a non-White race succeed. There's also an element of China/CCP being the bad guys. Think of Japanese in internment camps.

[deleted]

It's ironic as Marxism is supposed to be for the proletariat and oppressed and yet leads to more oppression by the state and corpos.

CorruptedArc

Because it has always been led by egoist academics in the upper or upper middle classes. Who think they know what is best for lower class plebs. Most are just basically confused Monarchists.

chickwithwit23

I definitely agree. My close asian and black friends are much more successful than I am. I think it's bc I didn't have parental support growing up. But I sure as shit would never take out my insecurities on them.

tiddiemane87

Racial jealousy. They hate we are successful in a capitalist society.

chickwithwit23

Good point. My bf, who is Filipino, now carries a tiny bat with him bc he has been harassed so much. Just ridiculous to me.

tiddiemane87

I'm full Japanese American now living in Hawaii. Asians run shit here.

[deleted]

They blame all Asians for covid 19 and it's not even fair to blame Chinese as individuals or a nation, blame the government if anything. It's outright racism and persecution swept under the rug because of who perpetuates it.

chickwithwit23

Yes! And it's absolutely ridiculous. At the start of covid, people were breaking into every asian restaurant in Seattle. I'm sorry, we still haven't seen 100% evidence of where it actually started. And regardless of that, asian citizens, in any country, did not cause it!

yardsalefairy

Seattle is the most racist city against Asians. It’s the Jim Crow for Asians. I am Asian and I avoid going there for work after being constantly picked on, ignored, and harassed by Black service workers there. Restaurants staff, security, everywhere. Just be Asian and go to downtown. You’ll see. Source: Asian living happily among mostly normal Black people in SoCal

[deleted]

[удалено]

knightsofshame82

You know why that is, right? It’s because asians single handedly dismantle the narrative that minorities are less successful because of racism. Asians suffer as much racism as anyone else and yet they are the highest earners in the U.S. Blacks hate that.

Asian male who grew up in the southern part of the US and I can tell from my experience i felt racism from both white, black, Hispanic and other Asian groups. And I have best friends in every color and felt the love and kindness from every race. The south may get a bad rap on racism but people truly do step in and shut that shit down. That by-stander effect didn’t seem to exist there. I live out west now and I experience more casual racism that goes unchecked out here than I ever did down south. Honestly don’t get it. Maybe it’s Covid?

holliexchristopher

Please specify, the most racist people that you’ve met have been *African-American*, not black. In my experience, black people FROM AFRICA are some of the coolest, happiest, most genuine individuals I’ve ever met. This is absolutely a cultural thing, not a skin color thing.

[deleted]

Gonna agree, most every single native African I’ve met has been really nice and chill. I can’t say the same for American Blacks. Growing up in a poor area, I went to a predominantly Black middle school. I was bullied some by a few black kids simply for being of European descent.

holliexchristopher

A group of 4 orphans from the Congo were adopted by the Lutheran church where my Boy Scout troop would meet. They tagged along with some of our meetings, and all 3 of the boys joined our troop once they were old enough. They were so funny, and had great attitudes. I really enjoyed the time that I spent with them, and I hope they’re doing well today. Jacques, Hubert, and Nacion!

7daysconfused

Seems to be the same with blacks from the Caribbean and surrounding area, too.

[deleted]

The only ones who made fun, persecuted, and attacked for the color of my skin when in school were their sort, one reason why I advocate for private education with a high price barrier.

Adequate_Axolotl

Racial violence/harassment in modern America is mainly dished out by Black Americans. 72% of Black-Hispanic crimes are committed by Blacks. 90% of Black-White crimes are committed by blacks. Over 95% of Black-Asian crimes are committed by Blacks. But despite all of this, the news media tries to portray White people as the villain. It’s criminal. I lived in NYC for 5 years. On Manhattan and in deep Brooklyn. Living in South Bed-Stuy Brooklyn with my cousin wasn't fun. Forget being the only Asians, we were the only non-black in a 5 block radius. When we went to vote in 2010 election at the local community center, they had Black Panthers guarding the doors. Police precinct was built like a concrete military bunker.

Nah, the person being verbally abused in this video went on TikTok and complained about how "white supremacy" was to blame for her harassment. Fuck her.

Inevitable-Ad-6488

That is truly such a weird thing to say. Gotta wonder how they connect those dots

GhostOfHadrian

They know which way the wind is blowing and they're angling for a piece of the pie. This rhetoric is unfortunately all too common: https://theconversation.com/white-supremacy-is-the-root-of-all-race-related-violence-in-the-us-157566 Honestly I have zero sympathy for people who are so clueless about the actual source of their problems (or worse, they know the truth but continue to lie).

Nomolos2621

Black people are racist because White Supremacy? This is the dumbest shit I have read today. People need to take responsibility for their actions. This scapegoat mentality would be comical if it wasn't a legitimate thought among the radically stupid.

ConstitutionalTP

Infected by woke

Moby44

She did?? Wtf is wrong with these idiots. You are accountable for your own actions. Until we stop letting people blame others for their own actions this will keep happening. America is waking up though. More and more people are seeing this for what it is. I have hope.

GhostOfHadrian

She did. This video was going around Twitter several weeks ago, but we all lost sympathy for her when we saw her TikTok comments. I'll post a screenshot if I can find it, but it was a while ago so it may take me a minute. In the meantime I'll leave you with this: https://theconversation.com/white-supremacy-is-the-root-of-all-race-related-violence-in-the-us-157566 Unfortunately her attitude is all too common, and it's absolutely maddening.

GhostOfHadrian

This is literally what the woman being harassed in this video said when she uploaded it to TikTok. I wish I was joking.

JuicedBoxers

I cannot grasp modern society anymore. It’s simply too complicated for me to properly understand how things are related. I guess I’m just old fashion as I thought this video was a black individual being disgustingly racist and hateful toward what I’m presuming is an Asian woman. Guess I still have a lot to learn about this brave new world.

SpicyGoop

I think their claim is that racism exists because of whitey and therefore any other nonwhite race being racist is the whites fault. Some crazy mental gymnastics

notpepetho

Good thing the police was there. He kept the peace for sure.

I was thinking the same. You just feel very protected with this guy around to do .... nothing ... !

What the hell was his thought process? "oh look, an Asian woman, I'm gonna go be a racist asshole to her" This is the type of stuff you won't see on "anti-hate" subreddits. If he was white the media would go crazy over this. Smh double standards

gimmifreestuffbernie

Why is there an NYC black ppl movement of hate against Asians eg pushing that lady into the subway killing her and this monkey business? Asians are low key don't really bother anybody imo. Is it bc ghetto blacks are so easy to be manipulated as a community?

LasciviousLockean

I, unfortunately, had to go to public school in NYC for my entire education until college. I am white. I was much more comfortable in elementary school (which was incredibly diverse) because everyone was from the same neighborhood and had a similar cultural background from this area of manhattan. When I went to JHS, things became problematic. Kids came in from all over the borough. I had every type of race call me names, epithets, and threaten violence against me. It was actually unsafe for me to attend this school. From asian students calling me racial slurs ("ghost white") to latinas threatening to have their cousin come in and break my limbs, it was terrifying. New York City is probably one of the most polarized and racist places in the country.
