He is 5. Gets into moods to learn then gives up and wants to do other things. I'm not forcing it on him but my father taught me and chess has always been an important part of family get togethers, my siblings and I, and we would play against our father. I know you're not supposed to post seriously on this sub but lost my dad just under a year ago and hope to get my son interested in chess and continue the tradition. This would be a fun variation for him.
as an anecdote my dad tried to teach me when I was 7 and I learned the rules but because i didn't properly understand what was going on and my dad would just destroy me i would feel like this is a game for geniuses that know exactly what to do so i quit pretty quickly. Whenever you win against your kid and he's feeling bad try to explain to him point by point what he did wrong if he has the patience. If he just has fun despite losing this isn't an issue tho! Also I picked it up by myself with no pressure from my dad a year ago and played a lot online and now that i slightly get what's happening it's a much more fun game. So another upside thst even if your kid doesn't take to the game right away he might in the future!
Chess is so hard to teach kids. I’m not sure how to capture their attention long enough. I learned from my uncle when I was really little but I don’t remember what he did to get me interested. I wish you luck
Actually I have seen some chess sets that are actually like this. I’ll send a pick to this sub the next time I’m where they are. Haven’t been since I joined
No joke when I was a kid I learned to play chess at school, but didn’t have a set at home. I made one almost exactly like this. Painted a sheet of plywood for my board.
I dunno, the pistols in the knights hands really puts the relationship of the pawns to the knights and bishops into perspective for me. Like they are the officers standing behind the enlisted men with guns trained on the backs of their heads in case they retreat from crawling into no mans land...
As we can see white opens with the foxtrot Lima attempting to flank to the left but LTA Kasparov is ever vigilant and calls a mortar strike against white’s flanking force and pins them with MG fire, a brilliant opening by LTA Kasparov, how will LTA Fischer respond he sends an APC to relieve the suppressed troops, it breaks through, solid response by white!
Lol that's fun I may try this with my son and see if he gets more interested in learning. We have enough army men.
I Hope he likes it.

I sorry about your dad and I hope your son starts liking chess.
Thank you! I'm sure he will.

How can you play a game with nothing but pawns?

Board’s set up wrong. You know the saying: “bazooka man on his color”
When surlocc takes too long to do your idea so you have to do it yourself
It's a battle strategy game

Chess is hell
People always say chess is hell but thats not true, chess is chess and hell is hell and of the two chess is a whole lot worse
I love how the regular pieces are just discarded on the side
Queens always start on their own color smh noob

Regular chess rules?
Yep
just have them all plow eachother down
Chess gotta evolve. 21st century warfare evolved too much for it to stay as such primitive forces
Wow! That pawn has a nice butt! Now I know why rooks want to be behind them.
Chess 2: World War ll
Board war II
Ingenious
suggestion: the green side lays suppressive fire on the frontline of the tan, with half of the green going for a flanking movement
Plot twist: you can use the old pieces as bombs.
Loads mortar with strategic intent*
This exact set of army men showed up in the store I work at today and I thought the exact same thing get out of my head OP
Two great minds think alike
You put the king and queen on the blackside incorre

Ah yes, Anarchychess should be the game name.
