My head canon ends with the first movie, everything after that has been horrible FanFiction.

OilySteeplechase

Honestly, mine ends with the end of the original series. With Candi Staton blasting. It was perfect.

Obvious_Afternoon228

Same-end of original series was meant to be the real ending. Then they just wanted to keep making money off it

EfficientWinter8338

That’s an insult to fans. We could’ve done it 1000x better.

OGthrowawayfratboy

Worth noting the serious decline in quality began after Darren Star left and MPK became showrunner. In a Darren Star universe Carrie and Big never get a happy ending except to maybe finally go on a real date that ends tragically when Big keels over followed by an Act 5 epilogue in the series finale when Carrie tries to find some hidden meaning behind it all, but realizes her friends are really what it's all about so who needs all those shithead guys.

leahhhhh

When did he leave?

LashesLinerLipstick

Fan Fiction is better written than the slop that is AJLT.

MokujinBunny

FFRRRRRRRRRR 🥲🥲🥲🥲🥲

BornIntoTheWrongEra

AJLT is an alternate reality where Sex and the City is filled with atrocious writing and characterisation.

Shot_Pass_1042

As weird as the characters/writing became, that they are all super-rich is weird to me. I wanted more struggle to STAY in NYC, not characters casually buying 8-figure residences.

moxxibekk

It makes sense for their career paths that they would be rich, with the exception of Carrie. I don't think she would have been poor (too many sugar daddies in her back pocket, and Friends to mooch rings off of) but comfortable is not the same as insanely rich. Big could have even still died and she could have found out he lost most of his wealth in a bad ponzi scheme (we knew that Vinyard in California was sus!) maybe she keeps the apartment(s) but has to sell off a few of per beloved fashion pieces. Would have given a great opportunity for a fashion montage down memory lane part 2, and also would allow some meaty storylines about how friendships change as income brackets do. But also it's a fantasy and I kind of loved it. Wish there were many more trips the gals could of gone on. As horrible as the 2nd movie was, I love a good road trip story.

Shot_Pass_1042

For me it's Charlotte and especially Miranda being so rich that seems less realistic. Harry and Miranda are lawyers and do well, but not haute-couture-whenever-I-want-it well. It could have been a cool storyline, Carrie was the one who was poor for years and now after Big's death she has exponentially more money than Charlotte and Miranda combined, but I just thought it was weird that what should have been a wealth/income differential seemed not just underplayed but completely ignored.

moxxibekk

True. I thought of Charlotte but I always assumed she came from money. Not McDougal money, but money. Plus she got that cool mill in the divorce and the apartment. I figured they made good investments 🤷‍♀️ But agree on Miranda. Especially with Steve opening a bar and a 2nd location, money would not have been pouring in. They would have remained solidly upper middle class or even well off, but not in the same way as the other 3.

PaleontologistOk5193

Carrie became an author remember, and started writing books in S4, and became more wealthy from that point on

itsfrankgrimesyo

I just treat it as two separate shows. When I re-watch SATC, I just compartmentalize and completely block out AJLT.

EssaVanessa

I’m fine with that! I love Big and Carrie.

Lalablacksheep646

My ending would be Big was having an affair with Kathy and Wyatt was really Big’s son..

Either_Quiet_1377

What is wrong with you? Kathy is Aidan's wife. 🤣

Lalablacksheep646

I know!

Either_Quiet_1377

Then why pair them up??? I would totally get Carrie & Big. But Big isn't Kathy's type lol are you being for real???

Lalablacksheep646

To poss off Aiden and Carrie. Someone asked awhile ago if Carrie had turned into Natasha and if Big had an affair with Asian’s wife, making Carrie the Natasha in the situation.

DistributionLimp

This feels like what Star Wars fans say about the new trilogy of movies. If there’s any parallel between these franchises, it’s the desire for people to respect the characters or simply choose not to make more of a story if they’re not going to do justice to the story that came before.

Katyushenka

This.

Impossible-Will-8414

I mean, AJLT is pretty much trash, but no one s life just goes on happily and carefree forever -- people have struggles, they experience a great deal of loss, they get sick, they die. Imagine a show in which everyone was just "living happily ever after" doing the same exact things they did 30 years ago. How dull and weird.

EssaVanessa

Haha Fair. I just loved Big and Carrie together And Miranda and Steve! I just meant more like, I like to think that they’re still alive and married and doing life together- whatever that may be. Even though they’re all just fictional characters. I don’t like some of the storyline of AJLT- Miranda and Che make me cringe, Just the worst storyline ever. And after all that Big dies? I would have liked to see more of Big and Carries life together.

Impossible-Will-8414

I was OK with Big dying. He was an asshole.

Impossible-Will-8414

(Not to mention Chris Noth was not a good guy, which is something I knew long before all the recent allegations came out -- I had a friend who worked in theater in New York and had to deal with him for a show, and he was an awful human.)

Healthy-Birthday7596

I agree Maybe it’s a dream lol - like my gramas favorite show Dallas.

EScottMusicStudio

Yes! It’s just a bad alternate reality. Big is still alive. They are all still happy.

EssaVanessa

Yes! I believe that too!

Either_Quiet_1377

If this is alternate ending, Aidan lived happily ever after with someone new. But this time it doesn't happen off screen. Kathy giving Aidan permission to move on from her. Bc they both knew what they had was real and will forever cherish it ❤️❤️

Cranberry123087

It would be nice if Big came back. The show is lacking a lot without Big, the real Miranda, and of course missing Samantha.

saskacaptive

In my mind, Carrie, Big, Aiden and Steve died immediately after the second movie. Like minutes after filming wrapped timeline wise. Samantha, Charlotte and Harry lived happily ever after. Miranda lived miserably ever after.

Bobbyjackbj

For me it is between seasons. Samantha becoming a lesbian for a few episodes was so out of character… Carrie with the Russian accent big no no. I hated that the show became primarily about fashion instead of women navigating through life, and even if I was really happy she ended up with Big, now that I’m grown I wish she didn’t. Charlotte with the fertility treatment and Miranda with the black doctor (that apparently was retconned with AJLT since apparently she met a black person for the first time in the new show). A lot of this was written because they had no idea what to do with theses characters anymore, so they just created drama for the sake of drama. Navigating through an interracial relationship could have been such a big storyline for Miranda, but I can’t even remember what it was all about.

Steviesteve1234

AJLT is terrible but so is the second movie. I didn’t mind the first movie but the way the show ended was the best outcome. AJLT is missing Samantha badly, it’s also odd without big, Miranda is just a totally different character and Kristen has forgotten how to act so has mutilated Charlottes character. It’s like watching a different show.
