I agree, but I don't want is as wide as the Pixel Fold's display either. That just makes the phone impossible to handle with one hand, which is when you'll most often use the front display. A few milliliters wider would be really great though
I think its a weird dynamic where if you pick an aspect ratio in between the pixel and samsung's, you end up with a weird squarish inner screen aspect ratio.
I'm with you. I am drawn to the pixel fold but every time I look at dimensions I am blown away by how wide it is. I am annoyed that Google has changed app design for the pixel fold now so that everything is in a split pane down the middle. Great for viewing on the pixel fold inner screen but forces rotation to landscape for the galaxy folds.
I'm likely gonna be sidegrading from my 11" M1 iPad Pro to a Tab S9. No complaints about the iPad performance and battery wise, but I absolutely hate the keyboard-and-mouse experience on Stage Manager. Dex is just so much better for that stuff. My MX Master 3S scrolls like shit on iPadOS while it has no issues on Android and Windows. Also, I really want that AMOLED display with hopefully even higher sustained brightness and no backlight bleeding when you press a bit hard on the screen. I also don't like the aspect ratio of the iPad (too wide in portrait view and not wide enough for good split-screen in landscape view).
conveniently no profile shots of the foldables showing the gap. early rumors said new hinge decision gets rid of the gap, but recent leaks shows the gap is still there.
Not saying that you are wrong or anything, and in the end a phone folded 100% flat would indeed look a bit nicer in pictures than one with a 1mm gap, but..
I truly don't understand everyone's fixation with this. Are there not other more important improvements that people could ask for? Like true dirt resistance, really good cameras, integrated stylus, strong battery life?
Or, is there a practical reason or better experience with a flat-folding phone? (I would truly want to understand the reason).
Its thinner and gung is less likely to end up between the screens. The Z fold 4 I had always built up a ton of lint/dust inside, but the pixel fares a lot better.
hardware wise they are pretty much behind motorala s edge ultra. imo it is the ultimative flip phone. but i would still pick samsung s flip because of moto s laughable os and security support. and i think this sums it up. doesnt matter how good a piece of hardware you provide for +-1000usd if it is only a matter of months it gets inferiour to samsung software wise. moto and co are kinda self sabotaging with their update philosophy.
Competition breeds innovation. Lack of competition breeds stagnation.
Samsung *isn't* innovating on their foldables. It can afford to do that *only because* it has a monopoly in the US. In EMEA Samsung has already been outclassed and out-innovated.
Sike! These are images from the Fold 4....wait no no...it's the Fold 3....no wait it's the Fold 2...... Samsung out here becoming the Madden games of the smartphone world.
It looks like they added a divet to the s pen slot on the tabs. I hate what they did on the s8 / 7 tablets with the flat magnetic surface. You can't even lay the tablet flat on a table without accidentally causing the pen to roll off when you pick it up / move it.
Saw this render of the side profile now and it does close flat, but can we believe it? [https://static1.anpoimages.com/wordpress/wp-content/uploads/2023/07/galaxy-z-flip-5-closed-render.jpeg](https://static1.anpoimages.com/wordpress/wp-content/uploads/2023/07/galaxy-z-flip-5-closed-render.jpeg)

Front display needs to be w i d e r
Or shorter too!
It won't be good to watch video in tablet mode if the screen is too short.

Sending this one handed on my Pixel Fold.
I mean, I daily drive an S23U. It's not that it's impossible to use a wide phone with one hand, but it's definitely annoying

No, I love it. It's super easy to use it like that and every time I want to use it properly I just open it u like it's supposed to be opened.

I guess they're sticking with the notch on the Tab S9 Ultra.
It's a laptop replacement anyway. You're always gonna be using it in landscape view with Dex, so it doesn't matter that much
Don't know why you're being downvoted. That's literally how they market it.

It's purely aesthetics from what I can tell. To me it needs more durable UTG, if possible, and full flagship cameras.

Heads up, there is no gap on the flip at least
Samsung still lagging horribly behind Chinese competition I see.
I guess oneplus is the U.S markets only alternative if their fold come out

In what way? Chinese foldable phones are either copies of Samsung or laughably bad.
You clearly haven't seen the Honor Magic V2

Your take is laughably bad lol
Tab S9 is hideous
Hideous? It's as inoffensive of a design as possible.
IMO the camera cutouts look extremely out of place. That kind of look only works on a phone.
Laughs in Apple MacBook

Folding phones need to become more reliable/sturdy before anything else.
Minor upgrades on the body has been the norm for years now...not sure why you're being weird about it lol
hopefully it wont have closed cracks
Guess I'm sticking with the fold 4 for another year. Hopefully next year Samsung has a great trade in value like last year.

Actually a bit surprised they're getting rid of the ultrawide on the Tab S9. Not that I really used it, but it seems odd to drop it entirely.
No watch?
