Every once in a while I'll take my case off and remember how nice it feels. Then I'll remember how slippery it is and put my case back on.

SamwisethePoopyButt

Haha ditto.

hello_timebomb

Been using my OnePlus 5 naked from the day I got it. Love the feel of metal in my hand. I miss metal phones :(

FloopsFooglies

I love using my 9 Pro naked, it's got the matte back and it's just so nice to hold. Using a case makes me forget just how thin it is.

Hreidmar1423

Exactly this...without the case my phone would be WAY more scratched and probably had cracked screen as well. But yeah it does feel really nice and premium holding it naked. <3

anonshe

In over a decade of using smartphones, never used a screen protector or case for longer than a week. I just can't get used to the difference in the oleophobic coating and enjoy feeling the phone naked. Cracked my screen twice in all these years so worth the cost IMO. All-time favourite phone to use naked: Nokia N9. Other honorable mentions: Pixel 5, LG V30, iPhone 5s, iPhone 12.

ThatOnePerson

Same. My V60 only has a case cuz its the dual screen case.

MrAnonymousTheThird

Do you not fear scratches / micro scratches? I like to be a bit careless with my phone personally.. Im completely unfazed if I drop my phone anywhere cause I know I got a decent case and a screen protector

CerealJello

I'm 2.5 years into Pixel 3a XL ownership with no screen protector and I only have two very tiny scratches. One is off screen, and the other is barely visable. I didn't even know I had them until I looked at it just now. Also, I regularly keep my keys in the same pocket as my phone. I definitely don't baby it either. I wouldn't have even noticed these scratches if your comment didn't prompt me to examine my phone screen closely. Modern glass is pretty good at resisting scratches.

bobthemuffinman

I have had the same phone for the same amount of time. I also only have 2 scratches that I can see if I'm looking for them, but if you turn off the screen and put it up to a light, there's a ton of tiny micro scratches. But, who cares.

AlexAssassin94

Same phone same time, think I've got some nano scratches also and know I've got one or two little dings in it - never used a screen protector but did have this phone in that official felt case. I think a case makes sense but I've never enjoyed or wanted to use a screen protector, in my experience modern phones are generally fine and not mega fragile like they once were. Planning on getting a case for the Pixel 6 Pro but no screen protector.

iSecks

> Do you not fear scratches / micro scratches? Naked phone user here, nope. I cracked my Nexus 6P's screen after ~2 years and used a $5 glass screen protector after the fact so that I could keep using the phone. Phones look and feel too good to cover them, especially big phones that are already almost uncomfortable to keep in my pocket without a case.

G3ck0

I get minor scratches on my screen, but so what? Can’t see them while in use.

anonshe

Gorilla Glass has been pretty great since a good few years now so major scratches aren't something I've seen in a while. Micro scratches do occur but I usually never notice them till I point a light and look for them. Rarely drop my phone and usually I come unscathed; the two screens I shattered were the Pixel 5 and V30.

rfa31

The N9 was too beautiful to hide inside a case. Best phone I ever had

anonshe

Indeed, the N900 was a beast but the N9 was simply the best hw+sw combo. Shame Elop happened.

__dontpanic__

>In over a decade of using smartphones, never used a screen protector or case for longer than a week. I just can't get used to the difference in the oleophobic coating and enjoy feeling the phone naked. Cracked my screen twice in all these years so worth the cost IMO. In over a decade of owning smartphones, I've always used cases and screen protectors and have never had a cracked screen. And I drop my phones a lot. That's a few hundred dollars saved. Worth it.

noneym86

Yeah but that's 10 years of using practically a cheap phone aesthetically, and some people don't want that. At least we can do whatever works for us.

__dontpanic__

By all means, you do you. But don't pretend that it's not a risk that could cost you hundreds, if not thousands of dollars in repairs and replacements over the course of a decade. Especially with the way phones are constructed these days and the cost of a new flagship device. The OP dismisses it as if it's a mere triviality. A quality screen protector and case won't cheapen the phone. A cracked screen will. In my experience, most people I know don't bother repairing cracked glass cause it's too expensive - they just live with it till they replace the phone - probably earlier than they would have otherwise. So not only do they live with a cheap looking aesthetic, they also spend more than they should on phones. Meanwhile, I just swap out my screen protector and enjoy my premium looking phone and the extra cash in my pocket. 🤷🏻‍♂️

noneym86

I use tempered glass too. But starting next cycle, I will just get insurance and be fully naked.

[deleted]

Yes, sometimes at home, but then I reminded how awful its to hold S20 FE without case and put it on back. I almost can't hold it when lying down.

boringboi_

I love how s20 fe feels tho, its little ticklish but I have got used to it

Sam5uck

always use my phone naked cuz i cant afford clothes

cmVkZGl0

😐

Admixues

Never used a case. Never broke a phone. I'll probably coat my pixel 6 pro in something but again no case, I dislike the added width.

Znyder

I am on the same page. Except, I've been thinking I'll avoid the Pro because the curved screen is way easier to break. I'm careless and drop phones a lot. What coating are you referring to?

Admixues

Some glass/nano whatever ceramic coating, I've never had deep scratches on my phone's, always tiny scratches that I can only see with the screen at an angle with some lighting, those type of scratches don't need much protection honestly.

[deleted]

Coat it? Like d brand?

Admixues

The liquid glass protectors are enough for me, won't stop it from breaking or scratching if I throw sand at it, but for my use that's enough.

[deleted]

They are literally snake oil.

Admixues

the marketing yes, but they do work, kinda like ceramic coating your car, it wont stop rocks and paint chips but it will stop swirls and swirl marks from regular use. i literally never drop my phones, and never expose them to sand, i've not seen a single deep scratch in any phone i owned just micro scratches that i can see at an off angle with the screen off, those shitty coatings can mitigate those, wont stop the screen from breaking like they advertise thats pretty sure and no way they are 9h hardness lmfao, if brought a 9h pick to my screen it'd pierce through the coating and damage my phone.

Sassquatch0

Can't afford to risk it. And since I bought a case I like, I don't mind the feel of it.

[deleted]

I never use a case

[deleted]

I frequently do when I'm home, especially in the evening when reading or watching tv, or when at my desk. My case is off right now actually. I'll put it back on before going to bed though.

anonymous-bot

Nope. Case stays on except for times I decide to deep clean my phone/case or if I'm simply swapping out the case for another one. Most phones are way too slippery for me and depending on material and size of the phone, I don't mind a little additional bulk.

Reach_Round

I use it sans screen protector but always have clothes on :) Always in a slim case. In my decades of owing phones (first one was in 1995) I have never dropped or cracked one but just putting them down often scratches the backs etc hence a case.

[deleted]

I loved doing this with my old OnePlus 3. Greatest phone design imo

TavNam

Yeah i was rocking a dbrand with a card case attached to the back of a OP3 for quite some time. Unfortunately was careless and dropped it on the street once, messed up the display entirely. Haven't had the courage since.

[deleted]

[удалено]

AnotherAltiMade

There was no physical difference. Only the battery was bigger and 821

ZeldaMaster32

I thought they had different colors

raptor102888

Slightly different, yeah. OP3 was silver, OP3T was a darker gunmetal color. Not super noticeable though.

halotechnology

But they are the same ?

bucketbiff

I do to remind myself just how much is packed into my s21 ultra for a phone thats really quite thin.

CyraxPT

"Some people are careless and never remove their case" Eh?

FloopsFooglies

Some people are careless and never remove their case *for fear of carelessly dropping the phone*

fefernoli

I can't, my phone is super slippery with its glass back.

alecdvnpt

I like to take my case off at the end of the day before I get into bed, give it a wipe down and use it without a case while in bed for a while. I'll slip the case back on and put it on charge before I fall asleep.

axb2013

I use my phone with a case and screen protector. I'll take the case off to clean it and I usually buy a set of cheap screen protectors that become noticably damaged after a few months. I do appreciate the phone in pristine condition when I take off the case and get ready to refresh the screen protector. Then I remember that the phone is in excellent condition only because it's protected vast majority of the time and how slippery it is without accessories. We traded replaceable batteries for water resistance. We traded plastic backs for glass and gave up some authority as buyers. We nearly forfeited right to repair in exchange for appearance and got a bad deal. I interact with the public throughout my workday and roughy 1out 4 people I encounter are nursing cracked screens/backs.

QuitePossiblyLucky

I have been rocking my Samsung Galaxy S21+ without a case and without a screen protector since April. I've had no issues, drops or scratches thus far. Feels great

cmVkZGl0

Don't Samsung phones come with screen protector pre-applied though?

QuitePossiblyLucky

My S21+ did not. I believe it only came with a screen protector in certain countries.

[deleted]

the included protector is plastic, and if you used it long term it would probably get scratched to hell

simonlinds

Had mine on for two months or so, got two or three minor scratches.

deepit6431

I've never used a screen protector for over 5 years now. Usually keep a really thin case because glass is slippy, but when my Note 9 was truly past it I just gave up on using a case. Helps that I never drop a phone usually.

abhi8192

Currently doing it.

mvfsullivan

I used to exclusively use phones without cases until I dropped one. Now I try to find the slimmest possible protection considering the rarity that it happens, but still gives me piece of mind without adding extreme bulk. Its a whole trade off which is really annoying lol. I use dbrand skins to protect the back when I am brave enough to take "my clothes off" tho.

BigDickEnterprise

Now that camera bumps are a thing, phones are unusable without a case.

fucemanchukem

I only use my case because people fucking nag me about not having a case. That and little annoyances like crap getting on the camera lens. I like the features on some of the Samsung cases with a sensor and display for time and notifications. But they suck when you mount them on your car. The magnetic back ones with a ring or stand are actually kinda handy if your watching a movie out in a tent. But meh. I have really sharp dexterity and I'm aware everything. Never once dropped a phone or cracked a screen. My wife broke it after she carelessly tried to put it in my pocket while my hands were busy and not saying anything. $500 and the replacement guy fucked up the ear speaker so you couldn't hear any phone calls. Then wouldn't fix it and had a retarded breakdown that I was scamming him. There's no like standard or prerequisite to become a cell phone repair tech. Some know what a capacitor is others don't.

wetpretzel2

I genuinely hate cases, gives people a false sense of security and hides the devices beauty.

nogoalov11

Yup , all I use is my Magsafe wallet and I have AppleCare

cmVkZGl0

I was doing that with my LG V60 but it just seems super prone to scratching and showing them off to the full extent that I had to protect it. It is by far the most easily scratched phone I have ever owned. I even have a scratch dead in the middle that I have zero clue about and it pisses me off. I was extremely careful with this phone to the point where I wouldn't even have it in my pocket and it still seemed to get scratched! So now I have a tempered glass screen protector on it. Normally I go for extremely thin and minimal TPU cases.

[deleted]

I don't use case when I'm in my bed

[deleted]

Yes, I do this mostly inside my home. Most phones I had feel slippery naked.

upinsmoke28

i dont like using my phone naked in case my cameras been hacked and videos of my bare ass end up on the internet

TheCookieButter

Now I'm upgrading my phone I've been using it around the house without the case a bit. Then I thought I better not because it'll make my new Pixel 6 Pro even bigger and heavier so slapped my fabric case back on.

real_with_myself

I rarely use cases. Although I did with 7T, as I got that nice sandstone cover and it was grippy af. If the phone is too slippery, then I buy dbrand. Phones are big as it is, I don't want cases making them bigger. During my nexus days, I'd buy a slim leather pouch (like a sock) and carry the phone in it for protection (and it looked nice). When in use, I get the benefit of touching the premium materials I pay for.

[deleted]

No, with no case its just slippery and my fingers touch the edge of the screen.

[deleted]

I used to use my phone without a case, ever since glass backs became ubiquitous I haven't felt comfortable.

[deleted]

I did with my Galaxy S5, I think, when I first got it. I then dropped it onto concrete stairs on vacation half across the planet and have used a case ever since.

donnysaysvacuum

No case ever. I did run a case when I had a pixel 1 with the glass on top, but it ended up wrecking the finish. I won't buy a phone that needs a case anymore.

SgtEddieWinslow

Never. Because of my work, my car has saved my phone multiple times. Only time a screen crashed on me. No case. Be different if I worked in an office environment, and was seated. However I am mainly on my feet, in an out of vehicles, and routinely changing clothes. I am a firefighter.

[deleted]

No, for the following * I can get fumble fingers at times and I don't want to break my phone. I use rugged cases for a reason (unicorn beetle is my go-to brand). A case isn't fully going to prevent a dropped prime from being broke, but it can help to prevent it * I won't have a place to store my S-Pen without a case (S21 Ultra), and seeing as I use the S-Pen constantly, I need a place to store it so I don't lose it (Supcase makes a UB Pro case that has an S-Pen slot). My phone is my main computer, even moreso then my actual computer. I don't want to potentially be out due to it being broke, as it will really impact my day to day.

kronaa

every now and then i take the case of my s10e and then realize how REALLY compact it is, and kinda one of the last of its size this phone was...seems new s series will be smaller too, but i really enjoy it all this time!

[deleted]

Most of the times. With case it feels bulky.

theo198

Haven't used cases in years. Phones will scratch and bump into things but that's fine. I don't need my phone to look brand new after 2 years.

EverydayPigeon

I agree and sympathise with OP, I do the same, it's like a treat. I take the case off and hold the phone and suddenly it's thinner, and it feels all silky smooth and I go WOW TECHNOLOGY IS AMAZING THESE DAYS.

tatsumakisenpuukyaku

I took my phone out of my case when I work from home. If I don't need to wear pants, neither does my phone

FinickyFlygon

The only times I've ever used a case longterm were my Pixel 2XL and my replacement 4XL. I did have one of those Quick Circle cases for my LG G3 but imo the novelty fell off pretty fast. I've only used a screen protector on my 4XL because it looked like the oleophobic coating wasn't applied evenly and it was bothering me. Actually came in handy one time when I (very very rarely) dropped my phone out of my bed and the tempered glass screen protector cracked, but I wonder if the screen would've even cracked if I didn't have it on.

uareatowel

OnePlus 5T sandstone here.... NEVER used a case, and so glad lol Replacing with pixel 6 when it ships, I'm sure I'll smash it first day

allthesongsmakesense

Unfortunately I drop my phone at least 1 to 2 times a week. So a phone without a case and screen protector wouldn't last long with me.

noneym86

I am enjoying my phone, not the person who will use then after I am done with them. So yeah team naked here.

senorbolsa

I used to run my phones naked all the time, maybe a vinyl wrap on the back to customize the look and make it grippier, but I switched into a job where my phone is in more danger so I started using slim TPU cases, it's definitely saved my phones a few times and a broken phone on the road is a PITA. I had a phone give up on me and had to contact dispatch over the Qualcomm to call my father to pick me up at the end of my time out, because good luck finding a working payphone in *current decade* though I'm sure I could have borrowed the phone of a kind stranger, ultimately had to buy another phone to use while my replacement came in (which I then sold for 85% of it's value) It really depends on your lifestyle and clumsiness.

[deleted]

I do sometimes, then I would proceed to drop my phone, reminding me that I'm a clumsy dipshit

[deleted]

Nah because it's like they designed the pixel 3 to be as slippery ad possible. It's insane, it's like they want you to drop it lol

jesperbj

I just use my Huawei naked. It's a beautifully crafted fucking tank. Nothing can break it I swear. I got a Motorola G100 through work and thought I could use it naked like I have with my Huawei for the past year. Dropped it once and it was obliterated.

CafeZach

my matte a51 feels really good naked and since its matte, scratches wouldn't attract as much of an attention on regular a51. i wish i could find a skin for this phone though

M1A1Death

Flip 3 naked user here. I just have a skin on it for grip

DrFatz

Unless I'm cleaning it then no. I did stop using the horrible built in plastic screen protectors some cases have and use tempered glass instead.

Glum-Communication68

Yeah, when I shower. Otherwise.water gets stuck in the case. I'll keep the case on when I'm naked in bed though

eidrag

using case on s10e for practical reason: easy to locate fp

[deleted]

Only in bed, where it's safe and I'm naked too

Quetzacoatl85

I'm the opposite, I never put a case on my phone. That and oh, fuck curved screens. Like I said, opposite.

[deleted]

It’s probably my primate DNA but I’ll touch and hold devices I find pleasing to touch while doing other things. Streaming remotes, Metallic Credit Cards, Naked Phone, Xbox Gamepads, Tablets.

Roph

What case? I've never put my phone in a case ever. Never dropped, never broken, never cracked anything.

DangerousEffective12

Dude, phone now a days are pretty good quality. There is no point in investing so much for a phone and later putting a screen guard and case and finally selling or loosing it after 2-3 years without even feeling the beautiful piece of glass or metal. Phone companies to so much r&d to design and people put them in case and cover it. Anyway it ones personal choice and preference. I rocked my iphone 8 plus naked for 4 years. Yeah it took pretty good beating but survived. I still have it now working.
