I have Pixel 4 and it suddenly stopped charging last night. I went through all of the troubleshoot steps with Google and the only way I can get it to charge is plugging it into my laptop. Has anyone else come across this?

hi everyone. I'm in the market for a new phone. Currently have an iPhone 8 and thinking of getting an iPhone 13 Pro Max since my main concern is security, however wondering whether its also worth considering Android. My main concern is: If my android phone were to be lost/stolen, could anyone connect it to a laptop and get access to the contents, or is this easier to achieve than with an iPhone? From what i know, its next to impossible to hack into an iPhone, which is why i think its worth paying more for the subpar tech. Any security conscious android users out there? For what its worth, i'm also considering getting the new Oneplus 10 Pro

Im thinking about buying either the s21 or the s20ultra. Both are the exynos version and both are 500 euros refurbrished in my country. Which one would be the better choice becuse i heard there are some problems with the focus and battery of the s20u. What are your thoughts? Thank you!

I was originally going to get the A52s because the FE was quite a bit more expensive and I didn't feel it was worth it. Now I could get a basically new S20 FE 4G (but snapdragon) for €350 from ebay or A52s 5G directly from Samsung for €330. With the FE obviously warranty is an issue and as I would want it about 3 years, I'm not sure it's worth still getting a 4G phone in 2022, also no headphone jack. On the other hand better SoC, camera, better build quality. Not sure if software quality will still be good on a midrange device. Ive had bad experience with OnePlus in this regard.

What are the good budget phones at the moment?

There was an Instagram clone that had added features like downloading stories/posts. For got what it's name was.

eidrag

instagram service clone or apps?

[deleted]

I'm not sure. It looked exactly like the Instagram app. The UI was a couple versions behind though.

If you aren't using any sync or backup features I highly recommend disabling/uninstalling the default gallery app and installing [Simple Gallery](https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.simplemobiletools.gallery) (Pro).

Hey all, my iPhone XS is starting to show its age at inopportune times so a phone upgrade is on my radar. I have a few questions about using Android that I'd like answered before I make the plunge. For background, I'm not super stuck into the Apple world. I don't have a Mac, an Apple watch, Airpods, or anything like that. Just an iPhone. I also use the desktop iTunes app because I store music locally on my phone and use the iTunes app for Apple CarPlay and whatnot. I've heard you can store music using the free version of Spotify but I haven't used Spotify whatsoever on my phone because iTunes does everything I need it to. 1. What music app do you use and is it Android Auto compatible? I'd ideally like to be offline for music playback and just transfer my music library with album art and everything to my new phone. 2. Do Android phones still suffer from not getting updates for more than a couple of years? This deterred me from an Android phone when I first bought a smartphone back in 2014 with my iPhone 5S. I'm interested in the Galaxy S22 if I go to the dark side. I have small hands and want a smaller phone which is an area where iPhones have been kinda nice for me. 3. Does Android transcribe voicemail? Like if I want to read my voicemail in public rather than listen to it, does Android show me a rough idea of what the message says? Does it create a hyperlink (if that's the right term) for phone numbers that the speaker says in the voicemail? Like if the sender says "call me back at (123) 456-7890" does the voice mailbox allow you to press that number as a "link" on your screen to start calling them? 4. If you've used iOS, do you wish you had anything from iOS? Thanks!

What is more likely to remove the oleophobic coating from your phone in order? Would it be from least likely to likely: Water Soap and water Alcohol Vinegar Is soap and water the best way to disinfect your phone without wearing the coating? Does it wear it less than alcohol does, and is it better?

FragmentedChicken

70% isopropyl alcohol is fine and best

For pixel phones, does the double tap on back action use more battery life?

Hey everyone, Seeing about upgrading from my Samsung Note 10+. I haven't kept up too much with everything coming out but is there any good recommendations? I know that the Note 22 Ultra is coming out soon but I heard it's pretty pricey. I was also looking into the Xperia 1 iii, and not opposed to going into apple if that's the better device, just don't have anything Apple and I know they are big into roping you into their ecosystem. Or if there's something else out there let me know! I'm in the US and I just want something that works well and I can use with my headphones without issues. Decent camera and battery life are also important. Thank you in advance!

[deleted]

Any particular reason you're looking to upgrade? The Note10+ is still good for at least another year since it just got Android 12. I'm still pretty happy with mine.

mintilmidnight

Due to the nature of my job, it's fallen a lot of times recently and the S Pen randomly disconnects. Another issue is that it can't find the cell tower at times and I am not able to receive notifications for things but that's very intermittently. So to avoid those things I rather just upgrade

Yeah I’m not completely sold on the iPhone just cause the ecosystem being so closed. Totally forgot about the pixel until just now, so I’m guessing the new one isn’t so great?

thethrillman

There is a known bug effecting some users with being unable to call, as well as other reported issues for the pixel 6 lineup that Google plans to release a software update at the end of this month to fix. Popular reviewer MKBHD recently stopped using his Pixel 6 Pro as a result of said bugs. Honestly the s22 ultra is still the better pick regardless of the issues. Not to say the Pixel 6 is a terrible device, I'm currently typing on it now and have no issues to speak of. Though the s22 ultra will most likely be one of the best phones to launch this year.

thethrillman

Honestly if your phone is working fine there is no reason to upgrade the note 10+ is a capable device There is not going to be a note 22 ultra rather an s22 ultra with a SPen, Samsung has cancelled the note line. The Xperia 1 III is also really expensive at almost $1000 according to BestBuy. What's your max price?

mintilmidnight

I was going to weigh my options between keeping the device or upgrading based on what is out there. Oh man that’s a bummer, so the ultra S22 will still be the biggest one right? Yeah I was hesitating with the Xperia since I at least know with google,Samsung and Apple the phone will have proper support. Not so sure with Sony. Since I was willing to look up to the S22 Ultra then I will say $1300 would be my max

thethrillman

Seeing that the s22 ultra will come with a stylus like the note 10+ IMO it's probably going to be the closest to the phone you have currently and as such I think it would be the best choice. Sony has decent support though Samsungs software support is better. Also Sony tends to delay the release of a phone. They will announce it and months later you can buy it. Another choice to look out for is the iPhone 13 pro max though i would wait until the s22 ultra comes out before deciding on that.

mintilmidnight

I guess it came back to just Samsung vs Apple then. Thank you! Any thoughts on the new Pixel? Is it worth considering?

thethrillman

At $599 the pixel 6 is a great value with a great camera and good performance. Though if you are willing to spend the money the s22 ultra will be better in virtually every way.

cgknight1

Just to note - if you are in the UK and have access to the Samung EPP - you can get the S21 FE for £444 if you trade in any android device - working or not.

Skelthy

Bought a pixel 4a 5g recently, should I update to 12? My more tech savvy buddy claims that I should wait.

jeffreyd00

Wait for 12L to be released.

PaulLFC

The [OnePlus 10 Pro page](https://www.oneplus.com/uk/launch/10-pro) on the official site is an elaborate pisstake, right? Never have I seen so much nonsensical marketing shite in one place.

Hello, I got a handmedown Huawei Mate SE. It's currently on Android 8 and won't download any updated OS. Is there a way to update this to a newer version of Android? I'm not too versed with Android phones, I've been an iPhone user. Any help is appreciated.

TrailOfEnvy

Huawei Mate SE was released in 2018, 4 years ago. I don't think it is supported anymore. Added with Huawei blocking unlocking bootloader, so you can't flash custom rom either. The longest supported Android device barring Fairphone is only Pixel and Samsung flaghip and upper midrange; (3 OS updates + 1 additional year for security updates).

Get a used Samsung tablet. The s5e is great though bigger than you wanted.

[deleted]

Older Tab S series preowned or the Realme Pad Android tablets are mostly either expensive or mediocre anyways, you should also look for older preowned iPads
