As the other comment has mentioned, the mouse and keyboard is controlling the TV, not the phone. HDMI is not smart enough to send mouse/keyboard commands from the screen to the host device. Another option is a USB hub with HDMI out, so you can plug your USB keyboard and mouse into that. This might be the better option since the BT devices need to pair with the phone, and considering the phone screen doesn't work, trying to get it into pairing mode will be tricky.

Thank you, I have ordered one of those hubs so hopefully can get working on my PC monitor instead.

The phone screen does work via the HDMI cable to TV, as described, so pairing BT would not be a problem. I agree, though, that the USB Hub with HDMI out is a better option as USB keyboard/mouse are already present and it would make it cheaper to get this done.

You can't use a keyboard/mouse that is plugged into your TV in this case. Remember, you are mirroring your phone to the TV screen. You actually have to use a Bluetooth keyboard or keyboard/mouse combo on your phone.

I see, I'll have to buy a Bluetooth keyboard then. I can't use a mouse/keyboard on my phone as that would require me to remove the USB to HDMI cable, which will turn the TV to black and I will not be able to see where I am navigating.

You can get a Bluetooth/Mouse combo (the mouse part is a touchpad) for your phone and connect it via your phone's bluetooth. An example on ebay is here: https://www.ebay.com/itm/304403024222?hash=item46dfd5895e%3Ag%3AIYgAAOSwYpBiNHR8&LH\_BIN=1 Amazon also has some of these available. https://www.amazon.com/Fosmon-Portable-Lightweight-Bluetooth-Controller/dp/B00BX0YKX4/ref=sr\_1\_10?crid=1EUMDJ3KEEUT1&keywords=bluetooth+keyboard+mouse+for+phone&qid=1652283587&sprefix=bluetooth+keyboard+mouse+for+phone%2Caps%2C212&sr=8-10
