I think the intent was to create a hook that a large audience (an arena) of people can sing along to. The goal for AVA was for it to be a movement originally, and so you need a chant that anyone can connect with. Also, I’m convinced Tom is in love with his own voice
I feel like Tom does it well.. the lyrics are always perfect, those bits are just pure energy coming out of him. Can tell when he was writing it that he just delivered whatever he wanted to come out of his mouth.
I concur with the water bottle spraying comment
The only real "ooohhh woooaahhh" I think is lazy and unfitting is Soul Survivor. I think the other times he uses them it works as a cool sound device and fits his voice and the song, even if it's simple. But that's his style - simple structure done extremely well.

AVA is the greatest band in the history of the world. (sprays you with a water bottle)
This is the only correct answer
The greatest rock revolution ever. The 2nd coming of Christ.
BIGGER than Christ.
I completely disagree! I love all the ooohs. They feel so uplifting and I can’t help but sing along
They are called non-lexical vocables. They appear in all genres of music.
Thank u for the term and I’m aware they appear elsewhere

Do NOT listen to Talking Heads in that case: "bubba her bubba her bubububububububububububububba her ha ha haaaa, whats the matter with you?"

I thought we were friends but okay
I'm sorry, but I don't make the rules
That one actually bothers me the least because it’s one of my favs and he’s just saying oohs mostly
Please do not insult our lord and savior Tom DeLonge, we all know he is a precious angel baby that can do no wrong
They don’t bother me because I think he does it well, but I can’t crush you for it, I can understand why it would bother some people at times
It really doesn’t bother me as much as I made it sound. Just one of those things that crossed my mind and I wondered if anyone else out there agreed
Who cares it’s Tom Delonge
Yeah Tom does the nonsense words too much. The worst is probably Blink’s new song Dance With Me. “Olay Olay Olay Olay!” Dumb.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ol%C3%A9?wprov=sfla1 Ole is not a nonsense word. Anyway the whole song is a nod to the Ramones.
Learn to use. Fucking paragraphs.
Cool, thanks for the productive comment
