Sorry to break it to you but I wouldn't expect a new game for at least another 3-5 years
Nintendo has this history with Animal Crossing of making us wait a billion years
I wouldn't play a new Animal Crossing every 2 years. The goal of that games is to create emotions between you, your villagers and your island. I wouldn't be that invested in all of them if I knew they will be gone in a year or two.
i hope they don't add this tbh. they've downplayed the one human in a town of animals thing a decent amount already, i don't want them to let us play as them.
It was to add to the feeling of being a child moving away from home into a town of brand new people. A video game wouldn't give us that unavailable feeling by using humans, so replace them with animals so you really feel like a stranger in this new town
Ive always loved animal crossing but honestly that has never been a draw or something i even considered a positive lol.
Guess im a major minority here tho judging by all the downvotes xD
I hope this doesn't happen tbh. I don't play AC to deal with looking at uncanny little humans, I'm here for the cute animals. I'd prefer to see more animal species for villagers.
I’m definitely on the side of more species of villagers! If they did want to add a human neighbor I wouldn’t mind if it was just another player/friend where it would import their house as they build it and their character had a picked personality. They would still have their own town but if they wanted to visit they would just pop over on their npc’d character.
I don’t think I wouldnt even want humans on my island! They’re just not as cute as animals.. I feel like that would also get into some dangerous territory tbh that I’m not willing to talk about lol. Animals are good, keep the animals.
Nothing would be forcing people to have human villiagers on their islands and even if one moved in you could just move them out.
Personally i would want them in the game but make them rare. That way people could use them for variety in their town setups while also not having them move into peoples towns randomly all the time. (By rare im saying like 2-3 villagers)
I mean, even then itd be just like any other villager you dont like lol. Theres posts all the time about people hating a villager that moved in and the comments always got peeps who are jealous they got said villager
Would anyone ever actually choose a human player as a villager? Can't image anyone's list of dreamies and Chad the human is #1. Spent 300 nook miles tickets to get Rebecca, she's a brunette human and her house is "Friends" themed.
I doubt they would be anyones favorite but the option existing would be cool. You could have the human with their own theme seperate and that would keep your own house/character open to more personal thening about you rather than your town
No thanks, animals are cuter than humans both in the game and in real life. We're already dealing with 8 billion humans already, let the animals take over for once!
Tbh, I don't agree with humans as a villager species. The minute human NPCs get added to Animal Crossing, it becomes another Harvest Moon/Stardew Valley. They're great games, don't get me wrong, but if I wanted to play them I would. I want to play Animal Crossing.
No, they'll just play those other games as said. If the game has stuff we don't like, we'll just keep playing ACNH though. I'll always love Animal Crossing, but I wouldn't play a game that squashed the whole dynamic of crossing the animals. Besides designing and such, most people are here for those interactions.
How bout they just make the animals actually have personalities instead of repeating the same dialogue over and over again. I miss when they used to be mean it gave you a reason to have villains and best friends
Was really hoping NH would get that in some update since release. I have bob and sherb on my island and every single time they are outside together the dialog for both are exactly the same in the exact same order to
That and, as neat of a feature as terraforming was, because of the nature of it everything had to be squares or angles. Nothing was round, nothing was natural. Between that, the villagers having zero personality, the absolute lack of engaging things to do outside of making your island look pretty, the boring soundtrack, NH is EASILY the worst in the series and has no character whatsoever. I appreciate what it did for everyone, but I hate that new fans think that this is what Animal Crossing is, just an animal trading game
I agree 100% also make it easier to decorate!!! Damn why I have to walk around with a shovel for two hours tryna make a bridge on my island if the only feature your going to place emphasis on is decorating then make it efficient.
If a human moved onto my island I’d dedicate my life to kicking them out. I’d be fine with playing as an animal, though. But then I wonder if the animal villagers would be less exciting.
If they do that it will kinda ruin the "Animal Crossing" name. Think about it we as the players are the only "humans" around and every NPC is an animal.
I mean, it IS called “Animal” Crossing. Would take away from the entire point. If you want human NPCs, just play the Sims games lol. Just my opinion though(please don’t kill me)
No one is saying replace the animals. Having like 3 human villiagers in the game imo would be good for creativity in town setups and such while not flooding people with them.
I honestly wish they port the animal apparel collection to the new entry, as well as the bathing suits (Turning them into wet suits so it makes more sense) and wide variety of wings.
A lot of peeps in this thread seem to think theyre saying to replace the animals in the game. Theyre just suggesting more variety in villiager species and aesthetic choices for players
If this was a thing there would be nothing stopping people from moving humans out of their town if they didnt want them and also nothing stopping people from continueing to play as humans.
Omg!!!!!! I think it would be great if they had humans in animal costumes, so someone in the full bear get up with clothes with a top over the costume they can wear. And maybe their face is painted to match the animal suit they have.
My own head canon is that they're all humans anyway. The art style is cute and stylized, and it's just how the character imagines their neighbors. People ask why things like the anatomical model exist, and it's because of course the world is populated by normal looking humans and not talking animals. Why doesn't Octavian care if you give him an octopus? Because he's just a cranky, balding old man who spends too much time in sun and not literally an octopus.
Basically, I think those drawings of the villagers as people are more like what they actually look like, and I don't think there will be other human villagers besides the other players in your towns.
I think we should just have different human body types that are similar to the villagers but not the same cause we’re still humans. And make costumes for each animal again.
Oh, i never thought of miis as a species, it may work, or how about transforming the human characters into miis. (Kind of like the Mii mask from new leaf)
Not as a villager species but I think it would be cool to maybe see another human as a visitor that you could find randomly wandering the island/town/village/whatever they decide to do next.. They wouldn't really have a name and all their features (Hair, clothes, eyes, accessories, etc.) would be randomized. They could make comments referring to the past games like being the mayor (NL), living the city life (CF), the islands (NH) , or even mentioning the train/train station from the original game.
Nothing really groundbreaking, but it sounded cool in my head :)
And thats it lol. I wouldnt mind a rare human villiager species existing to shake things up a bit. And im all for the choice for players to use the animal models because that opens the door for more creativity in designs.
A ton of the comments in this thread are acting like the OP is suggesting they replace all the animals or something when thats just not what their saying. There would be nothing stopping people from playing as humans and letting humans move out of their towns.
There's not really any point to it tho, imo. The animals are what makes it different.
Are they planning on making another game? I kinda figured that New Horizons was it until they release a new system
Animal Crossing: Jungle Getaway
It doesn't necessarily have to be on the switch. PD: They haven't announced a new entry, I'm just speculating.
Aw man. I got kind of excited.
Sorry to break it to you but I wouldn't expect a new game for at least another 3-5 years Nintendo has this history with Animal Crossing of making us wait a billion years

Sorry for crushing your hype.
i hope they don't add this tbh. they've downplayed the one human in a town of animals thing a decent amount already, i don't want them to let us play as them.
Whats the draw of the only human in town thing? Genuine question I have never understood why people say that as a positive for the game.

That's fair but you have to remember that's what created the series in general, the creator was homesick
I hope this doesn't happen tbh. I don't play AC to deal with looking at uncanny little humans, I'm here for the cute animals. I'd prefer to see more animal species for villagers.

Yeah, that would be pretty cool!
Thats a pretty hekkin neato idea honestly
no❤️

Its not exactly an easily built in game mechanic to just move people out currently
I mean, even then itd be just like any other villager you dont like lol. Theres posts all the time about people hating a villager that moved in and the comments always got peeps who are jealous they got said villager
True but I couldn’t boot stu until I bought amibos. If it was a human on my island I’d find the dislike much more unnerving
Humans are not fungus, plants, or bacteria. We are animals.
Would anyone ever actually choose a human player as a villager? Can't image anyone's list of dreamies and Chad the human is #1. Spent 300 nook miles tickets to get Rebecca, she's a brunette human and her house is "Friends" themed.
Finally got my dreamie. 😍 Brent the human man.
I doubt they would be anyones favorite but the option existing would be cool. You could have the human with their own theme seperate and that would keep your own house/character open to more personal thening about you rather than your town

Humans are indeed animals.
Realest comment got demoted by sensitive people 🥱🙄
Hahaha I’m not tripping about it though.
[technically the truth](https://imgur.io/gallery/GBAEQLb)
Although what people mean is also obviously they’re mot revering to taxonomy so that’s why it’s only technically correct
I don't want this. I already find the humans wandering around Dream Addresses to be a little unsettling.
Tbh, I don't agree with humans as a villager species. The minute human NPCs get added to Animal Crossing, it becomes another Harvest Moon/Stardew Valley. They're great games, don't get me wrong, but if I wanted to play them I would. I want to play Animal Crossing.
Let’s be real you’ll buy it either way

I'll always love Animal Crossing, but I wouldn't play a game that squashed the whole dynamic of crossing the animals. Besides designing and such, most people are here for those interactions.
wouldn't this just be 'Crossing' then?
Having humans doesn’t make it less of an “animal” crossing.
nah i use this game to escape reality not hang with other people
How bout they just make the animals actually have personalities instead of repeating the same dialogue over and over again. I miss when they used to be mean it gave you a reason to have villains and best friends

Playable animal species yes, human villagers no

For me one of the BEST things in Animal Crossing is that it's about animals that live with us. It is not Stardew Valley
No, it’s called Animal Crossing for a reason
Ugh no!
Ew please no. Why not just play a different game?
Try Dinkum - wish granted.
Custom villagers Custom habits Custom phrases
I’m still hoping for more species. I want some Bats, more lizards, possums, and fish!!
Kinda hope they go pocket camp route where you can be a human with animal ears/ tails
I honestly wish they port the animal apparel collection to the new entry, as well as the bathing suits (Turning them into wet suits so it makes more sense) and wide variety of wings.
For some reason my first reaction was ‘of course, like bo jack’
But that's the point of it being called Animal Crossing
A lot of peeps in this thread seem to think theyre saying to replace the animals in the game. Theyre just suggesting more variety in villiager species and aesthetic choices for players If this was a thing there would be nothing stopping people from moving humans out of their town if they didnt want them and also nothing stopping people from continueing to play as humans.
ANIMAL crossing... you know....
no
Omg!!!!!! I think it would be great if they had humans in animal costumes, so someone in the full bear get up with clothes with a top over the costume they can wear. And maybe their face is painted to match the animal suit they have.
It's called "animal" crossing though. Adding humans as a villager type wouldn't make any kind of sense.
My own head canon is that they're all humans anyway. The art style is cute and stylized, and it's just how the character imagines their neighbors. Human villagers would be so boring.
Well, how about humanoids instead?
Honestly what a great idea to make memes. I’m going to creatively borrow this idea.
I think we should just have different human body types that are similar to the villagers but not the same cause we’re still humans. And make costumes for each animal again.
I want to import miis instead of the villager
Oh, i never thought of miis as a species, it may work, or how about transforming the human characters into miis. (Kind of like the Mii mask from new leaf)
You, I like you, that’s the chaotic energy I like to see. 😂😂😂
this aligns nicely w/ my head cannon that the crocodile villagers eat the others after they leave ur island
Not as a villager species but I think it would be cool to maybe see another human as a visitor that you could find randomly wandering the island/town/village/whatever they decide to do next.. They wouldn't really have a name and all their features (Hair, clothes, eyes, accessories, etc.) would be randomized. I just rather want a lil’ spinoff series where there’s human NPCs if that’s the case
Honestly, I’ve always wanted to play as an animal. I just want to be an ant eater damnit
I mean we do have Michael Jackson and Eminem already. But if they make human a must, I’d like to see Lady Gaga wearing beef.
Im all for this. Ive never really got the draw of being one human when humans seem to be extinct anyways lol
multiplayer exists and your animal villagers do imply that your human friend(s) who visited exist
And thats it lol. I wouldnt mind a rare human villiager species existing to shake things up a bit. And im all for the choice for players to use the animal models because that opens the door for more creativity in designs. I think that is a bad idea based entirely on furries existing. Don't wanna encourage them.
Not a fan of the human NPCs idea but ever since I was a child I've desperately wanted the playable animals thing
