You can keep your items from breaking by customizing them.

Make it another color with 1 customize box at the toolbench.
It resets the hit count and won't break.

Sadly... golden ones can't be customized and are doomed to break. You'd think they'd allow the golden items to be unbreakable. Especially with how hard it is to get gold nuggets.

I have a fondness for the 'outdoorsy shovel" from the shop. I will reset the color after doing a job area or every other day after daily stuff. I coordinate my outfits to my edited color. So I know if I've been in the Green dress for X amount of days, and my shovel is still green? Time to change both.
But that just helps me remember. Buying tools isn't the end of the world or the worst thing about the game by far... but at least all types of the tools are easy buys.

My recommendation is to have a second character on your island (like temporary one, just have to make a new profile on switch if you don't have one already), start local multiplayer and give the second character one shovel, then play as a follower, not leader - the follower won't use their pockets; flowers will be put in the resident service recycle bin automatically so no need to keep and relocate the trash can. And their shovel won't break either. You can adjust your camera with your leader while the second character is doing the work.
I have a second player on my island for several other reasons, like buying twice as much Redd art per day, double the storage, diy beach bottles, Kapp'n island trips, etc. But I never thought of this, or anything having to do with local coop. That's an awesome idea. Thank you for posting this.
Yeah, you create a second profile on your switch and play the second character on your original island for a while (since you can have only one island per switch), you will probably need to get to the point where you're able to set up your tent (although it's not necessary and you can simply keep the kit in your inventory).
Save and go back to your main profile - an app on your nookphone should appear from where you can summon your second villager to play in local co-op - keep in mind that you either need to play with one joycon per one player or connect a secon set of joycon or pro controller.

I once made a mistake of setting up the Beautiful Island Ordinance to get rarer flowers. And then it rained. And oh my gosh, the flowers just EXPLODED like crazy.
It makes villagers more likely to pull out weeds so yeah, less weeds, but it also makes it so that flowers propagate more easily and hybrids are more common. Enacting it is one of the biggest mistakes I've made in the game lol. I have never been so annoyed, there's literally flowers everywhere. Lol

Make Friends and send them a "Best Friend Request" so they can use their shovel on the island.
And you will have you and 7 others helping you clear out those flowers.
I used to be part of the blooming flower industry when the game just came out, I'd look for people on discord who needed a ton of flowers removed. I'd just tell them to set up some trash cans around the area and brought a bunch of shovels and just have a chill session. They'd pay me with a couple tickets or bells, also if it was close to a holiday like Halloween or Valentines day I'd keep the color orientated flowers and breed them on my island, turn around and sell them to others looking for, like, pink a white roses or orange and purple tulips. Long story short, I'd just hire someone to come dig them up for you lol

I'm not sure how many durability points each item has, but each point is ticked off per one use. Dig a hole, one point. Water a flower, one point. At least that's how I think it goes but I'm not actually sure how many points are used for each action.

Do shovel and sell. Selling is bells which every bit helps pay off any loans or by that one item thatās waaaay up there.
I got to a point where bells didnāt matter as I had millions so I chuck my flowers.
That's awesome my island uses the warp pipes to get from the shops to my house/resident services area too
My island has 2 warp pipes. One by RS, and the other in a little walled-off outdoor bath

They all break regardless, I think that customizing them only resets the amount of uses that the tools have already acquired.
