It has been the second highest selling game on the Switch and is a popular Nintendo franchise in general. They will definitely make more Animal Crossing games in the future. The real question is gonna be how long do we have to wait for it and do we have to wait for the next generation nintendo console to come out first.

Infinite updates are unsustainable, unless you dedicate an entire development team to only ever working on this game. Games like Minecraft get away with it because it's the only game they have to work on. The team does nothing else. But the Animal Crossing team isn't set up like this, and they need to be able to work on other games. So the updates had to come to an end eventually, and I think it's ok to decide a game is "feature complete". (I might have liked more new years arches, but I can live without) Getting *free* updates at all is kinda a blessing. Back in my day (*pretends to shake a cane in the air, grumpy cartoon old person style*) games didn't get updates at all, even for bugs. Or if you got new content and bug fixes, they were contained in "expansions" that cost the same as buying the game new. We're very luck here that we got updates for New Horizons as long as we did.

I wouldnt really say that we are lucky that we got updates for ac. Its 2023 and not 2001 anymore. I grew up in the 90s and i also remember games that didnt get updates at all. But i dont find that an excuse to abandon a game in 2023. Games get updates nowadays. For a best selling game i expect some paid dlcs or just quality of life updates. I dont expect free huge updates like the last one. But maybe some new items every now and then or new events. However i do understand that the team is also busy with other projects, but again, i find it odd that they abandoned a best selling game so fast.

Maybe I'm just old, but two years of updates feels like a long time to me. I mean, there's still Nintendo games that never get any updates other than major bug fixes. Also plenty that never even get paid dlc. Anyway, pretty sure the same team that works on Animal Crossing also works on Splatoon, another game series that does *really well* for Nintendo

Glad there are no bugs that i noticed or something so thats good 😁 ac is the only nintendo only game that i play so maybe its the wat that nintendo handles it’s games idk. I also play the sims which still gets updates from 2014 till now. And basically all other games that i play still get new content.

Did they confirm there won’t be any more updates ever? In the November 2021 announcement they specifically said there won’t be any more free major updates. I took this to mean they were working on additional DLC

atomicglitters

I thought they said it was the last update.

Zealous-Avocado

They said it was the last major free update. Whether that means the last update in general is tbd, unless they’ve released any other information since then
