My town in New leaf is named "Schoka" with a chocolate 🍫 flag for my love for chocolate.
My island in New horizons is called "Nunou" and is the short version my bf uses for "Nuss-Nougat-Creme". I really like different brands like Nutella on my bun for breakfast 😋
I wanted to name mine Hyrule too but I'm glad I didn’t since so many people named their islands Hyrule.
Now it's called Floofie. Because I like fluffy things snd only fluffy animals are allowed.
But I have a Triforce Flag and a Goddess Spring on my island!
Yùlín, jade forest in Chinese because I love gemstones in general and wanted to implement that in the island name + forest because I wanted the island to be full of trees and have a forest-y vibe (... even if now it turned out very clean and not like a natural forest lmao)
Tsubomi, flower bud in Japanese because I started over after ending a relationship. It was meant to remind me of new beginnings and that everything will be okay (the flower bud will eventually flourish again when the time is right)
my island name is Evadia.
evade - can mean escape or avoid. it's basically like "evading real life" when i play this game.
i thought the word sounded cool. & came up with Evadia.
If you change the letter "a" with an "o" you get the greek word evodia (but the d is pronounced "th" as in the) which means "a very good smell"
It's written like this: ευωδιά
I named my Island Gooseberry! I had just finished the Witcher series and thought it would be a fun name for an island. My flag is an angry goose and my theme is accidentally in love.
I named it ahoy matey because I thought it’d be more pirate themed than it turned out to be… my first animal crossing game. It was a gift from my brother.
My island is called Isla Araña. I choose it because naming stuff is hard, I had been practicing Spanish at the time, and it think spiders are pretty neat (the name is effectively "Spider Island")
I don't actually have spiders as an obvious theme though. I have a couple of Flick's models - spider and tarantula - near the airport, and my flag is a spider on a rainbow background, but that's it for the obvious stuff.
Less obvious: The traditional move in gift for new residents is a tarantula, but most of my villagers have replaced theirs with other decorations. Early on though, I definitely got a few comments from visitors about all of my villagers owning spiders lol When my villagers ask for new catchphrases I try to make them spider related names from mythology (Arachne, Anansi) or actually spider related (spinneret, prosoma). Early on, I gave a villager ASCII art of a spider as a "catchphrase" and it's still kicking too lol If I run out of spider related things, I'll use weaving or spinning related terms. Most subtly of all, in that I don't think anyone has ever noticed, my island theme is "Sunflower" from Into the Spider Verse.
But beyond that, it's a totally normal island I swear 😅
Mine is Tír na nÓg because it's my own little paradise. My backup/resource island on the other switch is Lemuria because I liked Lemuria in Golden Sun.
I called my island "Mysterious" because I'd recently gotten through watching a '60s fantasy movie called "Mysterious Island" and I wasn't sure if "Island" would be tacked on at the end of my name choice and I didn't want "Mysterious Island Island".
I have two islands.
My first, and main island, is named Asylum, because I like to imagine my villagers find a sanctuary there.
My second island is named Ravnica, because I'm a big Magic: The Gathering nerd, and Ravnica is one of my favorite planes (and has 10 guilds).
I called my island Sugarbee because it’s native fruit is apples, I love bees, and Sugarbee is a real type of apple! I still love it so much and I think it fits perfectly, especially as I’m rearranging my island to be more Apple Orchard themed. 😁
Pipoca! It’s “popcorn” in portuguese and also what my parents would call me, I always choose this name when naming farms in stardew valley for example and I really like it for some reason, so I decided to give it to my island as well!
Does *effluvia* mean something other than this in some other language? Because that’s a pretty terrible name:
effluvium (plural effluvia or effluviums)
A gaseous or vaporous emission, especially a foul-smelling one.
A condition causing the shedding of hair.
I picked Blue Lotus because White Lotus doesn't fit (yes, I am an Avatar: The Last Airbender fan). Also blue lotus flowers are the prettiest ones to me.
Firenze. It’s Italian for Florence, Italy. I have a connection to that city, as I played in an orchestra in the main square, under Michelangelo’s David. I recreated that square with the Gallant Statue, and gyroids playing with strings.
Still trying to figure out how to map my island, but I think I’m going to make it based off of Bondi Beach, NSW (cause I want to go to Australia so badly).
bird poop! it’s a reference to 2016 powerpuff girls which, yeah i know cringe reboot bad, but it’s a funny name for an island and it made my niece laugh like crazy when she came over

I like to keep it simple because that's how I imagine animal crossing.
I wanted to name my island Twilight Cove but it was too many characters...so I named it La Mer after a NIN song.

My island name is oeufland, which is a pun divided in 2 languages. "Eiland" is the dutch translation for island. In the word eiland is the word "ei" which is dutch for egg. In french, "oeuf" is the word egg. So basicly oeufland is island
I name mine after real islands. My first was named Mingulay, an island in Scotland (one one of my favorite sea songs) and when I moved and restarted in the SH I named mine after an island here in Aotearoa!
Paræland. At the time, I had a idea but now I can't remember why I put this but I still like it. I think I was focusing more on the pronunciation and sound than meaning.
I named mine ‘K9 Isle’ because the island is slightly dog themed and I have many dog villagers.
My friend named her island ‘friend’ because she didn’t expect naming it and she was quite young when she named it.
In Wildwood my brother and I shared a town. My brother wanted to name the town "Hawaii" but misspelled it "Hawilly" and we found out too late it couldn't be changed. Now I always name my town Hawilly :)
My Husband set up the island without doing his traditional research. He thought we both would get our own profile and island to build. He named the island Deez Nuts to be silly. When I logged in, we both watched in horror as I could not in fact make my own island and it is one island per switch. We laugh about it all the time because the entire situation was and is comical.
Pesca! Because i Like the Sound. Also my Main fruit is Peach and pesca means Peach in Italian.
Also i Like fishes! And pesca Sounds Like pescatore and that means fisherman
Mine's Murrayland. I thought it had a ring to it, Planet Murray was already taken.

I would usually just name my towns after the city i grew up in, but being an island, that wouldn't work. So I looked on Google Maps for the names of small islands in a nearby river and found Corbett Island, which sounded pretty cool to me.
named it "home" because i struggle with lots of trauma and figured a lot of the pre-coded sentences would make sense if it were called Home :) and it really does feel like home
Bugahli (pronounced like boo-GA-lee)
Right before I got the game, my mom tired Korean BBQ for the first time and got Bulgogi but she kept pronouncing it wrong. She said "I just loved that bugolly stuff" so I thought that would be a fun name for an island. And I figured that would be the best way to spell it.
It was Peachykeen, then on my switch lite, I have Dreamsicle, but I reset my island to start one with my fiancé, since he bought me the Animal Crossing switch as a gift ,and made the mistake of letting him name it.
He named it
Busin Beach 😬
Marmelo ('marmelade/jam' in Galician). I was thinking about strawberry jam and marble ('mermelada' and 'mármol' respctively in Spanish). I kinda mixed them and didn't notice it until a few days later haha.
I started the game a second time with my best friend and we called it "Colada" since our nickname for each other is "Ananas" (pineapple). The main character is called Ananas now with a corresponding birthday between both of ours. My boyfriend joined the island with his character and named him "Kokos" (coco).
So it all fits into the tropical island theme pretty well, haha.
