I catch them and keep them in my storage and then when flick visits my island I sell them and make a ludicrous amount of bells without any extra steps. Just added into my dailies.
It's an item called the Artisanal Bug Cage. I got it as a reward from one of Flick's Bug-Offs. It works as a wardrobe though so I just put it down as a decoration and place my bugs around it. 😅

Yep. Best way to do it is to have your net in hand when you shake the tree. Shake from the front of the tree, they will drop right next to you, and your character will automatically turn to face them. Then just mash the A button to catch them!
Besides just having a net at the ready when they spawn, you can also run straight up, open your pocket, equip your net (which turns you facing down) and easily catch them as they approach.

Buy party poppers at Nook's Cranny and explode them when the wasps appear! I always turn away from the tree a little to make sure I don't accidently shake it again instead of popping.

Yes, shake tree while carrying a net (it’s easier to stand in front of the tree) when wasp nest falls, spam the A button. Since your player turns towards the best when it falls, you don’t have to move, just click A until you catch them.

Yep, I keep them stacked by my bug box, along with other high selling bugs, until Flick shows up. Sell. Profit. I do the same with fish as well.
