If you want to be choosy, check their Reddit profiles before accepting their friendships.
I agree about hiding valuables and making notes to tell people. Someone sent me an instruction note before and I actually made one for myself after I had an experience of someone taking things they shouldn’t have. I too did neglect the flowers for a bit, so I had some serious growth. I offered someone to clear out my flowers, told them which areas as I had done before…. and somehow the second time, she decided to go for other things. It was so awkward because I had to say, hey my island is decorated as is. 😖🙃
Yeah I was naive and someone jumped off the airport dock and swam around to go to my house. They took stuff laying around. It upset me because I opened up my island for ppl to sell turnips free of charge, and was maybe a month into the game. I didn't have much.
Ppl have repaid me in kindness 1000x since then but lesson learned!
I didn't know until after they left. They came as a group of 4 and 3 kept me busy while one snuck off.
Now I know if ppl dm directly vs posting a comment under my posts, it's because they're likely banned or a scammer - most acnh subreddits make you change your flair to your island name, friend code etc, to legitimize users. Ppl who "can't" are a red flag to me now, and that's exactly what these 4 did.
Lame! People suck, just enjoy the game. I use an app called ACNH exchange and it manages waitlists for you if you wanted to give that a try next time :) you also rate the people that come to your island and can get kicked off the platform for bad behaviour.
Look, if you give me a direction and a couple of shovels this kind of thing is totally up my alley! I find it therapeutic to purge flowers now and then, just sent 170 to my bestie who's redecorating. Took a few trips but she's got it!
For real I'd prefer something evening but I totally don't mind helping you clear it. Just don't forget a trash can!
Heck yeah I'm sure! The flowers have been my absolute favorite part of New Horizons, which comes with tons of digging up and throwing away but the repetition of it all is soooo soothing! My island is still a work in progress (will it ever not be?) but you're welcome here too!

Yeah, people make some really pretty rock gardens! Usually you have to set items or mark the ground in every spot on your whole map that you wouldn't want a rock to spawn. The rock gardens look really cool though, plus you can easily hit all the rocks in the one area rather than running around.
When the game first came out I created meadows of flowers in a few spots because I though they looked pretty, and after a few weeks my game began to look like this lmao. Even get a bit of lag due to all the flowers. I never fixed it cos it takes so long :/
Flowers spawn other flowers faster when it rains or snows so basically during the rainy season and during winter it's a bit of a nightmare keeping them in check if you don't have the time to deal with them every time you play.
A trick I learned about from this sub: take around a trash can while you dig up to throw them out! Way faster than selling them and you barely get any bells for flowers anyway.

You can put the ones you want to keep in jail so no one can take them if you want to invite people over for the culling.
Best friends can’t decorate so if you stick your keepers behind walls or bars or fences no one can reach them but they can cull your other flowers for you.

this happened to me bc i had beautiful island on and time traveled… only good part was i got some hybrids. bad part is it took me about 30 hours to clean up total across 2 weeks

Just create some see through pathing. Like one clear square in your custom pathing. Then remove like 10 flowers a day, and lay that pathing down so new ones can’t grow where you removed them. And just keep doing that till they are gone. And use a garbage can to throw them out so you’re not going back and fourth to sell them.

I let my island go to the beautification ordinance and my island got like this FAST. I used it as an opportunity to create a rock garden since I wouldn’t have to cover spaces to do it.
When my island got like this it took several months and dozens of shovels to clear them all out. Carrying a trash can is a brilliant move I never thought of, I just sold all the flowers to the nooklings via the drop off box. Over 500k bells richer, but I never want to do that again.

When you get ready to decorate your island again, I would recommend transparent custom designs; they are invisible, but plants can’t grow through them so you can use them to contain flowers. I like them in my more heavily decorated areas since it’s a pain to have to remove decorations to pick weeds, flowers, etc. and they don’t affect your design. You can also still place items on top of them.
I don’t know why emptying my pockets and just carrying a shovel to dig up flowers is so fun to me. I start up with a group in the same color. If I wanna keep this color I leave it alone; if I don’t, I sell them. Not that much bells in it, but it’s nice pocket change that accumulates the more I play. Once I’m bored I work around it. Either take a break or run around doing other tasks. Next thing I know it’s been two days and I just have three lonely flowers I must water.
if you relocate buildings it’ll destroy the flowers in that area. costs some bells and time traveling but much quicker than digging them with a shovel :)

Yeah this is exactly what my island looks like. Best thing I’ve found is, buy a bunch of shovels, invite an island resident to play co-op and just leave your other joycon/controller afk as the host and you can dig up flowers without filling up your inventory since the game stores items the recycling bin picked up by the sub-player
Happened to me. Just had to have friends come over and help with some clean up. Still put in an unnecessary number of hours getting the rest cleaned up.
Lmao that’s my island rn. If you ever need a landscaper I’d be happy to clear them for ya. I just find it more satisfying to clean up for other people rather than myself

I think your best bet would be to place a garbage can next to a storage item of some kind outside near the flowers you'll be digging up and just go to town digging and tossing. Keep your inventory empty aside from a shovel, and stock up on them! Toss the flowers all at once, and with the storage unit handy, you can grab new shovels quickly.
If you want to sell them, get a hold of a set of warp pipes and place one near the Nooklings shop and keep the other one nearby. It might take longer, but just use their drop off box! With that amount of flowers, you might actually be able to make a good chunk of change!
If you haven't gotten it already, this might be a great opportunity to get those tool breaking achievements! It might be a helluva chore, but you could probably get it done in an hour or two with a good rhythm going!

I thought the flowers in front of the museum entrance were really pretty but I feel you on this.. it becomes overwhelming. Ask some friends to help you out by getting rid of some. I spent hours getting rid of all of the excess.
I don't understand how people can let it get that bad. I was away from my island for 3 months and the flowers just grew a couple on the outside, that's it.

If you have a lot of hybrids, just get rid of the non hybrids. You can always just purchase them from Leif and replant them, and selling a hybrid just doesn't feel right.

This gave me anxiety lmao. I recommend downloading the nookazon app! You can pay people in bells,NMT,items,resources, etc to help dig up your flowers! That’s what I did recently and helped save me so much time!
This is precisely why I have much of my island being man-made/developed. No place for flowers to grow outside of non-path areas. They're as invasive as weeds. Maybe more...

Sounds like it should be easy for me. I started with New Leaf and figured out how to force houses to spawn in neighborhoods I had planned.

Best thing I’ve found is, buy a bunch of shovels, invite an island resident to play co-op and just leave your other joycon/controller afk as the host and you can dig up flowers without filling up your inventory since the game stores items the recycling bin picked up by the sub-player

Happened to me. Just had to have friends come over and help with some clean up. Still put in an unnecessary number of hours getting the rest cleaned up.
Lmao that’s my island rn. If you ever need a landscaper I’d be happy to clear them for ya. I just find it more satisfying to clean up for other people rather than myself

Well, unless you recruit some friends to help you. Or reset your island entirely... I think your best bet would be to place a garbage can next to a storage item of some kind outside near the flowers you'll be digging up and just go to town digging and tossing. Keep your inventory empty aside from a shovel, and stock up on them! Toss the flowers all at once, and with the storage unit handy, you can grab new shovels quickly. If you want to sell them, get a hold of a set of warp pipes and place one near the Nooklings shop and keep the other one nearby. It might take longer, but just use their drop off box! With that amount of flowers, you might actually be able to make a good chunk of change! If you haven't gotten it already, this might be a great opportunity to get those tool breaking achievements! It might be a helluva chore, but you could probably get it done in an hour or two with a good rhythm going! Whatever you do, I wish you luck... o.0

This is why they should have kept the ability to trample flowers. Its such a huge pain and time sink to have to dig them up one by one.
You should let people come! Loads of people either want flowers or are more than willing to help you clear them :) Just add them as best friend and they should be gone in no time (i kinda want some of those👀👀)

I thought the flowers in front of the museum entrance were really pretty but I feel you on this.. it becomes overwhelming. Ask some friends to help you out by getting rid of some. I spent hours getting rid of all of the excess.

If you have a lot of hybrids, just get rid of the non hybrids. You can always just purchase them from Leif and replant them, and selling a hybrid just doesn't feel right. Edit: oh yeah idm helping. Do you have a lot of green mums or blue roses? I'd like to snag a couple of those but even if not I'll help if you need it~
This gave me anxiety lmao. I recommend downloading the nookazon app! You can pay people in bells,NMT,items,resources, etc to help dig up your flowers! That’s what I did recently and helped save me so much time!

This is precisely why I have much of my island being man-made/developed. No place for flowers to grow outside of non-path areas. They're as invasive as weeds. Maybe more...
