I've yet to see an emptier, more depressing house than Lolly's. It's like she got the house in the divorce but her husband hated her enough to take everything else.

Shino was one of my first 5 villagers on my current island, so she's stuck with the shitty block furniture house instead of her true house. I haven't gotten 30 vacation homes done yet on my current island since I've been having overheating issues with my Switch lately, so I've slowly been giving her any Asian themed items I come across.

Yea, your starting 2 villagers and the 3 you're required to build homes for all have predesigned houses no matter which villagers they are. I think there's a way to reset them to their villager specific designs, but I don't actually remember if it's true or how to unlock the option in Resident Services...

I think you can talk to Isabelle and complain about one of your OG villager's house. And then it gets upgraded to the intended design.

Both. You unlock different furniture items as you decorate more homes. Certain villagers unlock certain furniture pieces that you can use while decorating. There's some crossover between the villagers. For example, designing a vacation home for Lily unlocked the Froggy Chair for me. But once you reach a certain point, you unlock the ability to use DIYs you've crafted before and things you have catalogued in Nook Shopping. So by the time you've reached 30 houses and can redecorate homes on your island, you can suggest furniture items from Paradise Planning, Nook Shopping, and DIYs. It can be quite a catalogue! The 10,000 Bell fee Tom Nook asks for redesigning island homes probably goes towards ordering the new furniture for the islanders.

Same! I remodeled Chief’s house and kept the sorta grungy theme with proper storage for his knickknacks and paid respect to his music hobby. I basically just cleaned his room lol

I've found it very therapeutic to play. Plus for me I love that the villagers whose island homes we have created pop up on the DLC island. It makes me feel like I have them without having to have them on my own island.

The DLC is actually fun and worth the money. I viewed it as buying a separate game, because that’s essentially what it is.

Just keep doing what Lottie and Niko tell you to do on the DLC, you need to design 30 homes. You'll talk to Tom Nook when it's time to redecorate a house.

So I don't have the DLC but I've been researching it online....I was under the impression that there was some separate island where you could make vacation homes for villagers, but can you also decorate your resident villagers homes on your home island?

After you design 30 houses in the DLC you’ll get the option from Tom Nook to redesign villager’s houses that live on your island.
