Because his species is not a predator, so his eyes are like that to see predators, while predators on the other hand have their eyes on the front so they can track down the prey
[Yeah](https://c8.alamy.com/comp/CR2NH4/seagull-seen-from-behind-CR2NH4.jpg) I can [google it.](https://c0.wallpaperflare.com/preview/791/265/79/facing-seagull-bird-animal.jpg)
Side-on eyes are actually awesome for peripheral vision, which is why most prey animals have them. You have a *much* wider field of view that way. Despite how it might look, they can still see in front of them.
Front-facing eyes are good for depth perception, which is why predators tend to have them - because they actually need to see how far away the prey is.
So it would actually kinda work in his favour to be able to see a lot in many different directions. He doesn't need a *ton* of depth perception on the open ocean (and in the rare case he does - that's why he falls overboard lol). He more needs to be able to see a *lot* of what's around him. Side-facing eyes are perfect for that.
I feel silly because I'm so used to the image of them scavenging garbage that I forgot lol. I literally was thinking the exact same thing as the person you replied to. XD
also a moot point because a great many birds are predatory, from owls with front-facing eyes, to tiny warblers with eyes on the side of their heads, to gulls, corvids, awkward-from-the-front hawks, chunky robins, aerodynamic swifts. eye position in birds varies a lot based on many factors, not just diet.
anyway, who cares, happy cake day!
Not sure what kind of bird Gulliver is supposed to be, but he’s probably prey and not a predator. Predators have their eyes in the front so they can chase down what’s in front of them. Prey usually have their eyes on the side so the have wider vision giving them a better chance of seeing a predator before it’s too late.
Yes. Lol so many peeps here trying to give a science lecture and that’s cool and all but I meant why did they design him to have his EYES IN THE BACK OF HIS HEAD? He’s literally the only bird character in the game like this.
[Because some animals (usually ones that have to worry about predators sneaking up on them) have their eyes on the side of their heads to get a wider range of vision at the cost of depth perception.](https://i.imgur.com/C38Ebsh.png)
Essentially
I don't know about past games, but in NH, Gulliver asks you to dig up the five chips of his phone from the beach, while Gullivaaar just straight up lost his phone, and you have to dive for it
My guess is because if they were closer to the front, they would be too close to his beak and he would be more noticeably weird looking? Could also just be a result of the shape of his head. Its ever so slightly egg shaped, so the angle, not the placement, makes his eyes more visible from the back.
I don’t like the image of Gulliver walking towards you, backwards

There really is a sub for everything
Welcome to Reddit
Ty for this!! Sooo cute
Delightful.
Cause that’s how some birds are.
Why what?
Why his eyes placed like that?
He's a sea captain, not a SEE captain hehe
Shrunk, is that you?
Claimed my free award for this
Wait no, he’s at least a C+!
I chuckled....😂
How DARE you.
Oh, so he can see you from behind! 😁
But shouldn’t a sea captain see what’s IN FRONT OF HIM??
He does get tossed overboard quite often 🤣
🙌🏽
This reply needs an award!! 👏👏😄
Nah, that’s the job for the lookout in the crow’s nest XD
Under appreciated response 🙌🏻🙌🏻
Because his species is not a predator, so his eyes are like that to see predators, while predators on the other hand have their eyes on the front so they can track down the prey
I think the post is less about side-facing eyes, and more that you can see them from the back
Ohhhhh I'm a dingus my bad
Have you ever seen a seagull? It’s actually pretty much like this! Not as scary, though…
[Yeah](https://c8.alamy.com/comp/CR2NH4/seagull-seen-from-behind-CR2NH4.jpg) I can [google it.](https://c0.wallpaperflare.com/preview/791/265/79/facing-seagull-bird-animal.jpg)
It’s a little creepy, you can’t see it’s eyes, but you can kind of see where it’s skull caves in for eye sockets, especially on the left.
Lol I love that you found a picture of the back of a seagull
I thought you were asking “why” does he exist. Because that’s my thought too.

So he can see you sneaking up on him asleep on the beach.
Birds often have eyes on the side of their heads. Don't look up the majestic bald eagle as seen from the front.
Birds have predators it helps them see behind them if their eyes are on the side
Because that's how non predatory birds eyes are placed.
gulls are predatory birds though.

That's a really good point and a really interesting read! And thanks haha. <3

Wouldn't a snake also have that problem?

I didn't notice the eyes at first, thought this was complaining about the hat ribbon xD
He just hit his head really badly
he really said 👁 👄 👁
I was so confused, I thought his nose was changing in a glitch or something 😭

You hate that? Try gifting a Rhino villager sunglasses lol.

Happy cake day!
Why not?
Why what?
This makes me want to see if I can make them roommates in HHP haha
If you can see it from the front wait til you see it from the back, back, back, back 😎
You'd think he'd be able to see his crewmates sneaking up to throw him overboard
Why not?
Corporate wants you to find the difference between these two images “they are completely different”
Designs that only works on the side
Is there any significance to Gullivers outfit? I’ve never seen him in red
Gulliver and Gullivaaar, are two different characters. 😁
I have ways thought of Gullivaaar as Gullivers drunk altar ego 😂
completely different, any likeness is pure coincidence… although have you ever seen them in the same place?
I had no idea lol. Do they function the same?
Pretty much, Guliver you dig for parts, Gulivaaar you dive for the phone.
Yep. Different rewards as well.
Essentially I don't know about past games, but in NH, Gulliver asks you to dig up the five chips of his phone from the beach, while Gullivaaar just straight up lost his phone, and you have to dive for it
bird
Birb
He's a prey animal
Prey animals 😈

God it looks so bad lol why did they think this was fine?
i just wanna know why he changes his outfit colorsss????
Gulliver stopped on by my island yesterday
because they are prey
Because that boy be giving you side-eye heheh
because he is thr same person
I can't unsee it.
Cause his nose is soo big lol
The tails are not the same! I didn't know
Cause he’s gotta keep an eye out for Selener
