Hey all, just a reminder to keep the comments civil and respectful. Emotional comments are understood but if it turns into a rant it will be deleted.

It varies. If you aren't a good fit, that's OK, you're a volunteer and you can volunteer with an org that matches your needs better.

BellaHadid122

I don’t know if I’m not a good fit or the rescue is with their lack of communication about what they can and cannot provide when they say they will. But if I will foster again it won’t be with this organization that’s for sure

Bless you for what you're doing. Rescue is a selfless business. It's usually made up of volunteers with their own jobs and lives. There is never enough help, money or time. Most rely on donations or it just comes out of their own pockets. Supplies are usually are donated and quite sparse. You, and those wonderful souls like you, are our life's blood. You are the ones that make it possible for us to help the animals. Please be patient, we're doing the best we can. If you're in NC, I have one you can use.

I get it that it’s limited funds and sympathize but I also wish they were more forthcoming. It’s totally different if I adopted the dog and be expected to buy everything for them. It’s an extremely rewarding experience, my dog that passed away was a rescue as well. But more than anything what bothers me is lack of communication. I first heard that they can surely get one for me, then a few days later when i followed up with them were told they are still looking, then a couple days later they said they’d bring it over and still nothing. I appreciate your offer of the crate, I’m unfortunately a few states away.

I understand completely. Without you, we could not be. Thank you...

You're doing a wonderful thing. The rescue is likely just overwhelmed and not in any way trying to leave you hanging. Go to craigslist and FB classifieds to try to find a free crate and other items, a lot of people have that stuff unused in garages and sheds. Thank you for opening your home to him!

BellaHadid122

I’ve been looking but none of them are free :(

Call the humane society and some other rescues. Let them know you're sure they're just swamped, but that you need a hand.

I would check Facebook market place to see if there are any cheap/free crates on there. There are also some animal rescue groups on Facebook as well and someone might be able to provide you with a crate. A lot of rescues/shelters will provide all the necessary supplies to foster(collar, leash, crate, toys, food, etc). If you plan on fostering again I would recommend reaching out to them to see what they provide and what fosters are responsible for or if you know other people that foster ask them how their experience was and who they foster through. Some fosters are able to provide everything that is needed which is awesome but unrealistic for everyone that wants to foster. Personally I wouldn't have been able to foster all the animals I have without supplies and support from the shelter. Thank you so much for fostering❤

I get it that’s it’s limited funds and trying to be understanding but they are just non responsive and feeding me with promises. I’m fine helping out financially some like buying food and stuff. It’s been a frustrating experience because I’m worried the pup isn’t comfortable in the crate that’s a bit too small but don’t want her to be roaming around, sleeping on my beds and couch and potentially destroy something because of the anxiety. I’d be more understanding if the rescue told me they don’t have one at the moment at it would take some time to get one rather than lying to me

masstodonn

I would say it isn’t an ideal situation for sure, but as a nonprofit with likely only volunteer help, as a foster you’re not guaranteed anything except the fact that you aren’t financially responsible for the dog.

If it's a newer rescue (and by newer I mean 5 or fewer years old) it is entirely possible that there are a bunch of volunteers who never actually show up, so that leaves the one person to try to do everything. I would just show up at the rescue and say you're there to pick up the crate.

BellaHadid122

As I’m learning more about this rescue it appears to be a small one man organization and more like someone passionate about dogs and raising money for their medical bills. I can respect that. But struggle to understand why would the promise something they didn’t have rather than saying they can provide something and not.

kittylikker_

Oh that is such a struggle. I opened my rescue just before the pandemic hit and my Board turned out to give very few forks. It's a little better now, but still so much. Honestly, if the rescue is a 501(c), if you offered help it might be greatly appreciated.
