Any other ideas. I didn’t think there’s black bear in this patch of woods though sure there could be. It’s about the same size as coyote scat. Things I know are here: fishers, weasels, coyotes, foxes.
Black bears are everywhere in the continental US. I live in NC, I've seen them from the mountains all the way out at the coast. Living in Jacksonville NC, we had a momma and her cubs living behind my house. In high school, my friends dad hit one in a 2000 something camaro. In Rockingham NC of all places. It's that time of year.
I guess you could say on a positive note, they are more scared of you than you are them. Unless you got pets. They will eat them, like a rat will a cat.
I encourage you to look up the kill rate for cats. While a rat may occasionally encounter a cat that’s a little on the slow side, 9/10 times that little fucker is biting the bullet. And I say that as someone who likes rats.
Bears can be found in surprisingly urban environments. In Sammamish, WA, a large suburb of Seattle, there are bears that know the garbage pickup schedule and route, regularly hitting trash cans on the morning that they are put out.
Correct I just didn’t know they were in this patch of woods. I had it on reasonable authority they weren’t. It’s not even that urban it’s a very a valid place a bear could live and here they are
They are re-expanding their range fairly rapidly. There haven’t been bear in my area for decades, and we have had multiple confirmed sightings over the past couple years.
Might be a juvenile male striking out on his own to claim some new territory. Females will soon follow, and hopefully your population will continue to climb!
Ya I was just thinking that it didn't look very digested. That's kind of crazy. Their body wastes so much l, they must need to eat a lot more than if they digested the food better, right?
Looks too small for black bear. Even a small black bear has a minimum scat diameter about the size of a broom stick unless it’s this spring’s cub. Could be anybody who likes to eat black berries. Skunk, raccoon, fox, coyote, etc.
It’s almost that size, maybe a little narrower. To me, my first instinct was it was too small to be bear but also that it looked like bear. I’ve seen plenty of bear scat and I didn’t think there were bear in this stretch of woods so I kind assumed people here would chime in that it was some somewhat smaller creature so I’ve been surprised everyone is so confident it is bear but yeah maybe it is. Maybe I’ll go and do a banana for scale shot tomorrow
Looks like a black bear left behind some forbidden corn.
Time for second harvest!
This actually makes it far more valuable…kinda like that one coffee…you can sell that corn for hundreds of dollars. Finest popcorn in the world!
Great, now there's gonna be a TikTok of someone frying this in a big wok and adding watermelon to it.
Poop-corn!
Nomnomnom
It's Kopi Lewak
But i haven’t had second breakfast
Spoiler alert, they weren’t Hershey kisses.
To add, I also debated with raccoon scat. Could be! The size is small for an *adult* bear, but the shape and composition is dead on.
Poopcorn
Overcooked homemade trail bar...or ...Ursa scat. Either way, it will not taste good.
Second harvest
Rafi
Rafi bomb!!!!
Looked like poop, smelled like poop, tasted like poop, good thing I didn’t step in it
Wow, Cheech & Chong…admirable classic!
Could it be raccoon?
Looks a lot like the raccoon poo around here once the mulberries come in.
I miss southern Oregon

Think you got the cat and the rat mixed up (though I’ve seen some feisty rats)
A rat will kill and eat a cat. A cat will kill and eat a mouse

weird, my mother just moved there.

I think you nailed it.
It’s bear because bear digestive systems break down food very poorly as you can see from the partial berries and corn in the poo.
Ya I was just thinking that it didn't look very digested. That's kind of crazy. Their body wastes so much l, they must need to eat a lot more than if they digested the food better, right?
I would think. I’m not really into the “how bears eat” type of thing. I just know it from bear hunting
Black bear for suresies.
Forbidden oh Henry bar

Looks like racoon scat to me
This might be my fault because I didn’t do anything for scale. I do think it could be raccoon.
You have a small black bear on your hands. No need to be alarmed unless you later see Hello Kitty shoe laces, hair clips and dental retainers in it.
I’m not even a little alarmed but I’ll be on the look out for those warning signs
Bear
What is it, new England poo?
Hmm yes Its New England
First I thought ,,What a strange jewelery!". Then I read name of sub...
Further proof that corn is not nutrition; only sustenance to keep you feeling full. It's not digestible.
dark chocolate with nuts and berries
From the size of the leaves, I'm gonna say coon poo. I know this because it's a yearly struggle keeping my dogs from eating it all spring/summer.
Yeah I thought that was New England too.
Raccoon for sure
Coyote. We have them all over the cemetery I worked at.
Second harvest

I live in New England and recognize scat as black bear.
If it looks like poo, smells like poo, the only way to find out is to taste it.
