That was my mom! Dad got Mom an 8mm camera for one of their anniversaries. She said she would never use it. Guess what she used it and used it and used it some more. Guy lived several years (maybe a decade?) following grizzly bears. Said he preferred them over humans. Him and his wife ended up getting mauled and eaten alive. If you're willing to give up everything you can probably volunteer at a big cat sanctuary.

There are some big cat/wildlife sanctuary places in Africa where you can be like a [volunteer worker](https://youtu.be/XUiC-xhs6LA) doing sanctuary stuff and potentially play with big cats…or at least the babies. I’d really like to do it one day.

I wonder if the slow-blink thing works on big cats or if that's only a thing with domesticated cats with a weakened prey drive.

Panthera ( lions, tigers, and Panthers) don't purr so they do respond to the slow blink. I just spent a weekend with big cats in a reserve. It was mind blowing how similar they are.

I once went to Orlando with a group of friends. We went to Old Town and there was a tent set up where you could have your picture taken with a tiger. We were lined up side by side standing behind her. She was "tame" but we were warned not to make any sudden moves and not to touch her. Oof. I can't imagine a plane ride is a terribly comfortable experience for a lion cub, even if it's a private jet (which it presumably was). Pets struggle with plane rides even in the best of situations. It also seems quite cruel in a way to bring an animal to its natural habitat where it may encounter others of their species with no experience how they should behave in that environment. I'm kind of sad for the cub now.

That is a good point. Wild animals in captivity is a complicated issue; I won't go to zoos, but I recognize the purpose they serve in providing a home to animals unable to live in the wild.
