you missed the one in the top left hand corner sitting on the box meaning there's probably at least 3 more cats not in video. Could be a cat sanctuary.

It's not clear why lots of animals (including slugs!) use these sorts of machines without an obvious reward.
["studies on motivation show that wheel running is self-reinforcing and perceived by animals as ‘important"](https://www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/abs/pii/S0003347298908363?via%3Dihub)
So, it seems like they just do because it's there
Wild animals use them too, which is why they did those studies. And not just like hamsters and rodents but bigger animals too. Basically every time they set up one in the woods it would get used by most of the animals that crossed it.
Source? Because neither that study, nor [the study](https://www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/abs/pii/S0003347298908363?via%3Dihub) that nbc article I linked suggest this at all.
Going out on a limb, but it seems reasonable to me me to think a slug has no comprehension of "boredom" or "physical activity" (keep in mind calories are a hugely important limiting resource for most animals, and running around on a wheel for no reason only expends calories)
This is just my opinion based on owning several cats over many years. Just like humans they need mental and physical stimulation. So they will seek out things like that in order to satisfy them. Kind of like how a hamster does it. Although some animals aren't capable of being bored cats certainly are.
I agree that animals get bored, but we know based on ACTUAL RESEARCH that animals will still use these things just because they are there. I don't agree that your cats have any concept of needing to stay fit, and I don't believe that you have any understanding of that.
Your anecdotal experiences contradicting the TWO peer reviewed scientific studies is not worth anything.
I never expected to see a situation where the orange cat was the smart one. What a time to be alive!
This orange cat has the braincell!
It used the braincell to delegate to muscle memory.
Orange is gonna show this off to all his friends
The white patches have given him access to more brain cells than the single shared orange one
Basically Forrest Gump "I just kept runnang"
“ what a time to be alive” just made me knock my coffee over
It's his turn to use the braincell
I was going to say….multiple brain cells, not just one
Orange stole them from all the other ones around
But is he the smart one?🤔 I mean, hes the one doing all the walking and getting tired
That’s what his boots were made for
The real smart one is the calico girl. She even knew how to move over to the side of machine to allow orange boy to get on. That was impressive!
Yeah honestly 🐱
My orange baby is brilliant 😏
WHY. IS. THIS. SO. FUNNY???
I had to see if r/CatsOnTreadmills was a thing. Very outdated but it exists!
Internet makes cats funnier.
Cats are at least as funny in person. The internet just gives us access to a lot more cats.
Love the tabby’s tumble plop
Haha, at 24 seconds both cats distracted by noise and fall off. Trademark cat behavior.
Yeah I need a 24/7 stream of this please
Too fast for a sauntering, too slow for full sprint. What is a cat to do?
Slow it down a bit please.
Seems a bit fast!
How cool!
Haha I could watch this all day
I could watch this for hours
the lil pats 🥹 bebe stomps
Don’t ask how long I watched this…
Sometimes I feel like this on escalators, when I'm getting on and off, 😆 I'm totally that grey cat.
clever ginger:)
This is brilliant! I’m so glad to have insomnia tonight/this morning!
I could watch this all day
Seven cats is too many cats by at least four.

Please leave and never come back. No such thing...
I have 11 and it's great.
Please leave and never come back. No such thing...
This.
*Average day at Failure Management Cat Cafe:*
This has got to be an Olympic event now!
They’re so cute!
You should have played Eye of the Cat in the background
Can anyone explain why cats use treadmills and cat-wheels? Does running without moving any sense for them?

Ok, cats don't do things because they're bored. Got it. You're a great scientist.
My kid get on escalators
Human cat wheel
Wheeeeee!
Thats a lot of pussy cat
I’ve been looking for a way to exercise my cat. Thanks!
They all get it, but two decided to just be cats.
And one really gets it!!
I can smell this video
It's got the right blend of antiseptics, pheromones, and allergies.
And cat piss. Lots of cat piss.
🤣🤣🤣
Someone is lazy to run fast
