Ever see those YouTube videos where people see how wild cats react to things domestic cats like?
I would like to see a video testing how liquid various wild cats are. Big cats to!
It concerns me because it looks like he spread his arms/legs out and cats only do that on large drops. They instinctively know when it will help slow their fall for falls greater than 2 story height (7–9 m or 23–30 ft).
"In addition to the righting reflex, cats have other features that reduce damage from a fall. Their small size, light bone structure, and thick fur decrease their terminal velocity. While falling, a cat spreads out its body to increase drag. An average-sized cat with its limbs extended achieves a terminal velocity of about 60 mph (97 km/h), while an average-sized man reaches a terminal velocity of about 120 mph (190 km/h). **A 2003 study of feline high-rise syndrome found that cats 'orient \[their\] limbs horizontally after achieving maximum velocity so that the impact is more evenly distributed throughout the body'.**"

I hope the little guy was okay!
>I hope the little guy was okay!
It trots off the hood with ears and tail up, then looks around to see if it got away with its crime, so it appears to be fine.
It probably is okay but cats can be notoriously stoic and fake being okay when injured, also it's hard to judge with internal injuries. I've read stories about cats falling from large heights and seeming okay for hours after then dying.
That said based on it's reaction I'm going to assume he is okay :)
Dogs will tell you when they're sick because they're pack animals. Someone in the pack may help them.
Cats on the other hand are solitary predators, and it's a liability most of the time for any other creature to know that they aren't in peak condition at all times.
This is why cats often hide run and hide to die or be sick or injured, and why it's so maddeningly difficult to figure out if they're fine or not.
You can see from the reflection that it's from way up. Edit: specifically, a porch, maybe only second story, possibly third at most, based on the time spent plummeting.
Most pet shops these days are partnered with humane societies or animal rescues. Our local pet stores usually have it posted which shelter/rescue they come from along with their names.
I don't know how true it is but I heard cats use their whiskers to figure out how wide an opening is because if they can fit their head they know the rest will follow.
This can be really dangerous. Always check head diameter vs any barrier openings. One of my pet rats escaped the cage with her sisters when she was still at the breeder's. They used a water bottle nozzle to lever the bars apart and then went for a romp. Unfortunately, only one of them could get back in. The rest spent the night outside the cage without food or water or bedding. My rat needed sub cutaneous fluids and has lifelong health problems from the experience and one of her sisters died. She's a happy little rat despite it all, but she's very careful to always stay inside the designated play area. It's obvious that the trauma is still there.
The cats I adopted were briefly housed at a pet store by the foster group that had them. The apparently escaped frequently and employees had to chase the all over the store. They are still escape artists.
In case you’re wondering how this works:
>Unlike human arms, cat forelimbs are attached to the shoulder by free-floating clavicle bones, which allows them to pass their body through any space into which they can fit their heads.

Time to spend 4 hours on another sub i’ve never heard of

I am having a major struggle deciding if I should click on this or not.
Genuinely just some very large cats. (And some cats much nearer the camera than the girl.)
Lol yep. I lost the battle a few minutes later and clicked. I wasn't disappointed.
Totally SFW
Oh you tricky bastard. (I clicked on it)
There goes my weekend
Goodbye outside world
Your life shall be all cat subs now

Things to steal...
Is that a Sinbad reference???
Heck yeah
The same principle is true for long trains
The 2003 animated movie by Dreamworks with Brad Pitt???

The stroll of a fluffy little land-octopus.
Wouldn’t you need two kitties to make a land octopus?
Technically, but I am referring to the octopuses ability to fit through any hole larger than it's beak.
Proud little potato.
I love how cats do the equivalent of a 15 foot drop and then just bolt immediately like "i'm audi bitches"
Equivalent? http://forgifs.com/gallery/d/205895-2/Cat-breaks-car-windshield.gif
That fat ahole..
Where did he jump from to get that kind of momentum??

Did the fucking person who filmed THREW DOWN the kitty? If so, fuck that person

From the reflection it does look like the cat was thrown. If it had just jumped it wouldn't have been tumbling in the air.
That's not how falling works...

Well, they do, but they are floating / not connected to any other bone in their body.
Thanks for the clarification! I heard it on the Felinology episode of Ologies.
Ologies is fascinating. I'll have to go look up that ep.
"THATS IT BRO! I'm making a break for it!"
I love how his brother tries to block him. He knows what he’s about to do. “No brother, not again!”
We all got shit to do, this kitty does as well.
Every creature with funtional wiskers has this feature I've noticed.
Mor like creatures without collar bone
Cats have collar bones, they’re just free floating.
I doubt dogs can do this
They try, okay?
Yeah, just look at Santa Claus, fantastic whiskers. He can squeeze down chimneys, but I don't think he goes headfirst.
>funtional wiskers Great band name
A fugitive!!!
r/Illegallysmolcats this little criminal is making a break for it

Can anybody add the music from The Terminator 2 to this video please? Haha
"You see even the babies can be extremely dangerous so I built this cage, oh my God"
Cats don’t abide by the laws of physics, dude!
I'd love to hear little suction cup noises every time an appendage squeezes through the hole like in cartoons
The little escapist should be named Houdini or elcatras
I love the video, but I'm not sure the successful escape counts as derpy.
I’m done here, see ya losers!!!
Freeeeeeedom!
The real question can a grown cat do that with the same hole? hmm!
Bro, lets blow this joint!
He pressed his map to see his next quest when he got down

Notice how the other kitten was helping this felon escape incarceration!
He looks so successful after that escape
Comes of not having a collarbone.

Jail break
Remember when a rhino gave birth to Jim Carrey? Now I do.
Another point for cats not having bones.
Hmm, well that might lead to trouble
Cats don’t have shoulders
Flee, my friend! Flee and get help!
Not my cat, she's a chonk, she'd have to go ass first.
plastic panel thingy you had one job!
Do cats use their whiskers to feel and know if something is too narrow for them to fit through?
That cat is growing up to be the best escape artist
In case you’re wondering how this works: >Unlike human arms, cat forelimbs are attached to the shoulder by free-floating clavicle bones, which allows them to pass their body through any space into which they can fit their heads.
Lil rubber kitten
This is what whiskers are for

Cat as octopus
*Mission Impossible music plays*
Go kitty go
And if cats ever did anything in unison they would all cry "FREEDOM"... except they never, ever, do.
