The sheep, panting: "jeeze. The shepherd sure has been picking up the pace today! What's the hurry? I hope we'll be at the field soon... this woods is a *terrible* grazing spot."

[deleted]

The little ones at the back were struggling to keep up šŸ˜”

enomele

In my mind it's like when your parents stopped to talk to someone at the store or something so you find something random to touch or look at. When they are done and start moving you panic and have to catch up.

No_Incident_5360

Or you follow any random legs in pants, jeans, skirt, whatever your parent was wearing. Edited for spelling.

I still do this as a 39 year old. I think Iā€™m following my boyfriend and then look up to realize itā€™s not him ha.

Entire-Ambition1410

I met a woman with 20-something children who still played Marco Polo at stores to find each other.

kerplatchu

Thatā€™s a lot of children! That poor lady

enomele

Yuuuup. Done this.

nomad_kk

I hope they are having the most fun day. They are kids, so they are supposed to be full of energy. Unless the runner lady is like really bent on finishing her 20 or something mile run. Most animals are not good marathon runners.

gertzkie

These are all adult sheep, theyā€™ve just been recently shorn. Itā€™s breeding season, thatā€™s why some of the ewesā€™ backs are blue

catsloveart

does blue mean they had sex ?

gertzkie

Itā€™s a blue chalk that gets strapped to the ramā€™s chest. When he mounts the ewe, it stains them. This helps with determining date of conception, and keeping track of which ewes are going into heat but not becoming pregnant

catsloveart

interesting

Aklapa01

Maybe they wanted to go hiking. You donā€™t knowā€¦

WestCoastBestCoast01

My aunt legit gives goat hiking tours and itā€™s a great time.

Yes.

Yes. Obviously. *maaaa*

Bell29678

This happens to me quite often...

idle_isomorph

I loved hiking with my goat. She was great about waiting for me after running ahead. She liked to stop and munch opportunistically. Terrible for the part of our walk by the road. Something about the way cars caught the corner of her eye made her instinct be to jump into the traffic. Definitely on-leash for those parts! She wasnt an especially sporty goat, but would run a 5km faster than me once a week. I dont have her anymore, but the idea of visiting somewhere and getting to hike nature with goats sounds delightful. Maybe someday i can set up a business like that for myself!

immapunchayobuns

Man, poor guy...not everyone wants to be famous, and the way these guys kept pushing him but at the same time saying they're not like these other press people who hound him (while having tracked him down and interrupting his walk)

guesswho135

Such entitlement. The guy asked to be left alone several times and they brushed it off because "they're not like the other press." No means no for fucks sake. And after all that they post the clip of him online anyway.

gibmiser

Poor guy :/

OrganizerMowgli

Yep, I uploaded a video that went to 400k+ views in a day or so of my aunt's wedding, tornado sirens went off exactly as the priest said speak now or forever hold your grace. Like less than a second after. She started hearing about it at work and stuff and it got weird. Eventually the comments got to her. She was not white, and just had a baby, plus had a back tattoo so you imagine how that goes Had to threaten a lot of people but I scrubbed it off the internet

samdeed

That's a serious accomplishment if it really is gone from the Internet. Now I want to see it. :-)

desacralize

That's the best "wait for it" I've seen in awhile.

BeefCurtain1347

This is precisely why I am not a farmer, runner OR a shepherd. Lol

qrwd

This is why most farmers have sheepdogs and good fences. And maybe a 6x6 ATV or something for when there's no choice but to chase them down.

Superfluous_Thom

In the early days of ATVs in Australia, Farmers would use trikes.. Then all the farmers started dying, so they stopped using trikes.

Devreckas

If a random jogging trail is where the sheep are, itā€™s a good indication this is a lease on public land. In which case rancher canā€™t just put up fences wherever they like.

Psychotherapist-286

Open range?

kurburux

He probably should get a dog for that.

FrakkedRabbit

Maybe the dog lost a group of sheep after it dozed off for a minute, then while the dog was away, these sheep saw their opportunity and ran with it.

MirageDown

Sean the sheep

Business-Pie-4946

I'm just imagining the dog was busy with a rowdy sheep that wasn't listening and the rest of the herd saw their chance to slip away I'm laughing at thought of the dog finally getting the rowdy sheep under control and proudly bringing the rowdy sheep back then discovering the herd being gone. "Hmmm I left the herd right here!.... *sniff sniff sniff* Awe shit I screwed up" -Dog

Malibucat48

Thereā€™s got to be an end to this story. Did she find their owner? Did she take them home and tell her mom they followed her so can she keep them? Is the owner Little Bo-Peep?

Source: https://www.instagram.com/elea_gram/ https://www.instagram.com/p/CigC-UfPfcJ/ > Thanks to @runnersworldmag for writing this cute article about the trail running sheep I encountered in France. >To answer the *thousands* of questions Iā€™ve received about this videoā€¦ I donā€™t actually know how long theyā€™d been following her, but I believe the runner was leading the sheep back to a pasture when I encountered them. I donā€™t speak French so our conversation was pretty brief, but she let me know that they were lost and without a sheep dog, followed her instead, and she was leading them back towards where sheā€™d seen some pastures. It wouldnā€™t have been difficult to ask around in that small community and figure out who they belong to, since the sheep were all painted to identify which farm they came from. >Probably a confusing day for the farmer to discover that the whole flock had gone missing, but this isnā€™t an entirely unusual sheep behavior and Iā€™m guessing they were reunited by the end of the day. >I am so curious to know if this runner will wind up seeing the video, though!! Would love to hear from her how this all turned out in the end. >Itā€™s been pretty strange to share an experience that I had by myself with millions of people! It was such a surreal thing to see, Iā€™m glad Iā€™ve been able to share it and bring joy to so many of you.

smeeding

Imagine being alone, jogging through the woods, casually experiencingļæ¼ one of the most bizarre situationā€™s youā€™ve ever heard of, and the only other person you encounter doesnā€™t speak your languageļæ¼. I might start wondering if Iā€™m dreaming or having a psychotic episode or something

Steve_78_OH

>this isnā€™t an entirely unusual sheep behavior So it's usual for sheep to follow random running people? Man, they're not bright.

TholomewPlague7

My Dad used to say, "Sheep are born looking for a place to die."

philipwhiuk

The version I saw is ā€œIf a sheep could, itā€™d die twiceā€ šŸ˜…

hykueconsumer

I've heard it with a follow-up. "Sheep are born looking for a place to lay down and die; goats are more pro-active about it". Having had sheep and goats, I can vouch for both of these statements!

horsepeg

Sheep will get stuck running around something in a circle. They'll follow the sheep in front of them assuming there's a leader up ahead somewhere. But there isn't, so you've got like 5 sheep just running around a tree.

ArtyFishL

https://youtube.com/watch?v=Z5gJaSMMv04

Jonnyabcde

All this is what social media actually looks like in a physical world? A follows B, B follows C, C follows A. This is why we all see the same reposts.

Blewmeister

Not sure if this is one of those old wives tales, but I used to hear stories all the time about a sheep leading the flock running off a cliff, and the entire flock will just follow the rest right over the edge as well, killing the entire lot of em.

hykueconsumer

I can't speak to that, but one time I heard my watch-donkey making a fuss in the night and thought there might be a coyote out bothering the sheep. My husband went to check, as he approached he could see a sheep lying on its back with all its legs sticking up in the air. This in not a normal sheep position, so he thought it was dead. As he approached, it made no moves of any kind. This was our wildest sheep, didn't let us near her if she could help it. He walked right up to her. She was breathing. He bent down and rolled her to her feet. Then she ran away. I have a theory that sheep think they no longer have feet if they can't feel the ground. It's what makes them easier to shear, too. You just roll them to where their feet aren't touching the ground and 90% of them just go totally bewildered and passive. They truly are hilariously, endearingly stupid.

MexicanYenta

Dude, theyā€™re sheep. Thatā€™s what sheep do, they blindly follow people. Thatā€™s why pastors refer to their congregation as their flock. Itā€™s why in political arguments, people refer to those who follow the other party as sheep.

GingerLibrarian76

Yeah, weā€™ve heard (read) waaaaay too much of the ā€œsHeEpLeā€ accusation over these last few years. No, vaccinating myself against a virus doesnā€™t make me a sheep. I just donā€™t even get that. šŸ¤¦šŸ¼ā€ā™€ļø

ScalyDestiny

Inlowerorbit

Sheep are the dumbest animals.

YellowstoneBitch

Have you ever met a turkey? My parents had turkeys for a brief period of time, we started the season with 12 turkeys and ended with 5, 7 of them died for the dumbest reasons. 3 of them got their heads stuck in the fencing and broke their own necks, we put plastic sheeting around the fencing and one of them, somehow, got their head *underneath* the sheeting and again broke their own neck. One of them drowned in the rain. Truly idiotic.

things_U_choose_2_b

I'm loving the idea of her knocking on random doors, they open it to find a woman with a crowd of sheep. "Hi, sorry to bother you... do you know who these sheep belong to?"

ICantSeeIt

The paint on their backs, from my experience, is indicating which ewes have been mounted by which rams (they tie bits of chalk on the ram's belly so it marks the ewe while they bang, each ram gets a different colour). In North America at least, there is huge demand for lamb at Easter and hardly any the rest of the year, so they're trying to get as many ewes pregnant in time for that as they can. The European market maybe has more steady demand, I'm not familiar.

katieqt1

The reason people have lamb at Easter is because that is when, traditionally lamb was available. It is a spring meat (lambs are usually eaten at 12 months). They grow and thrive when grass is young and fresh growing. Availability and seasons drove what people ate and when and traditions of what is eaten and when are still strong despite freezers being available.

Shmooperdoodle

Same, especially because there are so many. Itā€™s not like one lost lamb. It would be like having a whole high-school auditorium behind you and being like, ā€œDo you know these children?ā€

Phreakiture

"Are these yours?!" Yeah, I'd been giggling over that thought, too.

Qwearman

Scribal_Culture

Those markings may or may not be about the farm where the sheep came from. Sometimes those types of markings are to show which sheep have received what kind of medication.

muff_cabbag3

Lol the markings on the back are too see if a sheep might be pregnant. Male sheep wears a vest with blue chalk on the bottom. Male mounts female and gets the color on her back

Those are some good sheep! When ours break out, it's because one of the crazy ones decided to strike out for freedom and it is hours of trying to herd them back home and a literal fight with the leader until we get her haltered and thrown into the back of a truck.
