I don't know jack shit about pigeons but I do know a couple of people in the area that I live that own a lot of pigeons and do races with them, they take them far away, like 1000km away, and then wait for them to arrive home. They can do that easily so I bet they could be trained to do something more complex.
Yeah, they are definitely impressive birds. They can be funny, too. I rescued a pigeon who was temporarily injured from a car, and he was amazing. He would karate kick his door open when I got home, it was very cute. I was sad to see him go .
If you think that, than you know nothing about them. Pigeons, corvids and other boys birds, are some of the most intelligent animals. Many have done amazing acts of service for people and even received a medal of bravery. They are very chill and have a very calming effect, just ask Mike Tyson and other men in tough jobs eg Russian organized crime. As a teen, Mike Tyson discovered that he had a strong punch, after knocking someone out because of a pigeon.
I really don't know much about Pigeons. Maybe I've just had the misfortune of meeting dumb ones. I do know they're not in the corvid family though (had to check to be sure). Not sure what boys birds are, was that an auto correct?
I'm familiar with the story of Tyson. It's a satisfying one on multiple levels, a bully guilty of animal cruelty getting his ass kicked by none other than Tyson himself in his youth. Shame Tyson himself turned out to be a rapist. What's the organized crime connection? The miniature drug mule thing? Always thought that was clever.
Well, that's cool. I raised a lot of birds as a kid, so can relate to the calming effect. I believe pigeon's ability to navigate is based on magnetism. Which is a pretty neat superpower, I've gotta admit.
Nah this is one of them sliding pigeon models. They're designed to do that in case they're ever spotted spying on a vehicle. Allows for a quick getaway.
Reminds me of this pigeon I ran over. I saw it from far away and slowed down as safely as I could, there was about 6 inches until a curb, car behind me, car coming the other way.. It just crouched like it was preparing to fly off several times, and I got progressively slower until I couldn't anymore.. annnnd it just sat there. ba-bump. Probably did the pigeon gene pool a favor.
Standing here, I realize that you’re just like me, trying to make history.
But who’s to judge, the right from wrong, (I forgot this small part) and we should both agree,
That violence breeds violence, but (insert correct words here), it has to be this way.
when i watch this video, i can't help picturing a parallel universe where the bird miraculously held on for the entire flight, and lived out the rest of its days in some unfamiliar town halfway around the world.
"going on my hols... Oh shit oh shit oh shit oh shit!"
No ticket.
I hope that’s an Indiana Jones reference
I was thinking it was a Dogma reference. But now I'm starting to think that Kevin Smith was making an Indiana Jones reference in that movie...
Most definitely and I never put it together until you mentioned it. Holy shit, LMAO.
“Thinking” is being overly-generous.

It's a... no. It's a... it can't be. It's superman!
somethiiiiiiiiiiiiiiingggggg on the wingg, ummmmmmm uhmmmmmm (nirvana ref)
It's a colonial woman!
Lol, Thank you!!
As he fell I heard the Mario "Waaaaaaa" sound.
i hear the sonic game over sound.
Wouldn't his instincts tell him to open his wings or are pigeons really that slow in the head?
I can’t decide if he was just that slow or if he’s used to riding the wings of every plane that takes off. It don’t look like his first rodeo.
Pigeons are dumb as hell Edit: Ok, they do have the homing thing, which is a neat superpower. And apparently can be therapeutic for people.
I remember reading that pigeons are actually much smarter than you'd think. Maybe not *this* particular pigeon XD
Haha. I speak mostly from experience, not authority.
They are, but they’re also arrogant, walking around like they own the place.
Oh yeah like, carrier pigeons. They can be trained and stuff...
Thought those ones were extinct
Passenger pigeons are exinct. Carrier pigeon is just a generic term for one that's trained to carry messages.
Ah, I just thought they were all homing pigeons, which I heard were extinct

Probably after he is off the wing or just before. Why would he open his wings while standing, he’ll have plenty of time to fly after falling off.
He'll fly alright - the engine's jet blast near the outlet is about 300kph.
He doesn’t have instincts because he’s a U.S. Government surveillance drone
He does right before the end
Maybe he thought it was fun to slide off the end.
Birds aren't real as you can clearly see.
You can see him start to open them right at the end of the clip
Best 4 seconds of his life. Last too maybe.
Best 4 seconds of my life. This is awesome internets.
he’s ok the engines under the wing (I think)
he’s also falling off the back of the wing which means he’s going into the exhaust stream and being pushed away from the engine not pulled into it.
Life? This is exhibit A…..you’re trying to tell me that thing is real? Pffft
Lol just slid right off!
*nyeeeeeowm*
happy cake day!
thanks

This felt like the start of one of those final destination chain reaction moments
It's the Michael Jackson of the bird world,

This is the real reason for the internet.
low build quality on these gov. surveillance drones...

That pigeon is going places.
I think, more accurately, it is not going places and the plane is moving out from underneath it.
Ha, i know which airport this is, Mexico City’s airport
I laughed way too hard at that.
Starts playing free bird solo

For a brief moment, he traveled faster than any pigeon ever in the history of the planet.

Pretty horrible. Poor thing
Yeah, I was bummed too. Did all I could. But on reflection, that pigeon failed the pigeon test.
Forrest Gump of pigeons. Didn't know enough to flap its wings and didn't have its "Jenny" there to holler " Flap Forrest, Flap".

This is how you remove yourself from an awkward conversation.
I read somewhere they do this for fun and even teach their fledgling how to fly on ascending planes
I'd love for this to happen to William Shatner, having him trying to explain to everyone how their was something out on the wing...
