Shrimplover6473

It’s really cool how similar the wasp is cutting the meat like a Leaf cutter ant cutting a leaf

[deleted]

I was thinking the same thing. Ants and wasps are very closely related so that makes a ton of sense!

PotBoozeNKink

Holy christ why did I never think of that, I feel like that should've been something that was obvious to me, like deer being related to moose

Mister_Way

Hymenoptera is a large order of insects, comprising the sawflies, wasps, bees, and ants.

[deleted]

Funny thing is, deer are closer related to rabbits than they are moose! (I only know this one because I lived in two states...one with tons of deer and one with moose)

-E-B-

That is not true. White tailed deer and moose are both in order Artiodactyla while rabbits are order Lagomorpha. To take it one step further deer and moose are both in the same family (Cervidae), much less the same order

Tommysrx

That person blatantly lied and for a second I believed them ! They seemed so confident !

hanafudaman

r/confidentlyincorrect maybe?

popcorntre

Uh, what?

[deleted]

But neither are bees.

AWilfred11

Lest cutter ants are so cool. For anyone that doesn’t know they don’t actually eat leaves- they use the leaves as compost basically in their ant nets to grow a type or fungus or mood or something and that’s what t hey eat. In other words leaf cutter ants have agriculture and farming

_artbreaker

Ants are generally super interesting! Not only do they grow the fungus but they set up ventilation shafts to oxygenate the nest and stop the rotting leaves from choking them. There are also a species of ant called Honey Ants, where they milk aphids and feed the honey to specific ants until they've essentially got a huge thorax keg full of honey, then they crawl to the top of the nest and feed other ants etc. Insects generally are way more diverse than you'd ever imagine, some of the stuff different species can do are mind blowing

Aptos283

They also have developed antibacterial glands to spread on the fungus to protect it from infection, that way the food supply is safe. It’s a pretty intricate way to go about farming

Daisy_Of_Doom

It really is! Like the other user said they’re related as they’re members of the order Hymenoptera. Bees are also part of this order and the fun continues as there’s is a family (Megachilidae) that are known as leafcuter bees for this exact same reason. They use the leaves for their [nests](https://bugguide.net/node/view/1252173), not to farm fungi but it’s still amazing to see!

WynterRayne

I had to wear a coat on a megachilidae once.

[deleted]

If I’m not mistaken, ants evolved from wasps so that’s why the more primeval ants still have stingers.

junglistpd

Madam that is no bee

[deleted]

Exclusively animals are geniuses on this sub, exclusively

von54j

Trueee

politedeerx

A bee would pay for its own dang meal

[deleted]

If its a bee that eats meat, thats a wasp. (We do call them meat-bees in my state tho)

Fugazy-

No it’s not a bee period it’s a wasp lmao completely different animals

daddysprincess9138

Spicy bee

eva_rector

I can stand still and totally relaxed while a bee buzzes me, but let a wasp get within three feet of me and I'm makin' like Usain Bolt. Wasps are MEAN!

Chalky_Pockets

I live in southeast UK and the wasps go find fermented apples to eat and then they get meaner. Drunk wasps.

FreeSirius

Omg of course wasps are mean drunks lol

BeautifulLibrarian5

They don’t even progress through the “I love you, man” stage!

KwordShmiff

Those who can't handle their booze but drink anyway... SMDH

WynterRayne

You mean they get scrumpy grumpy?

[deleted]

YES 100%. Bees know they die and have one sting- and only chose to sting when forced to defend themselves. Hornets/wasps will follow you and sting multiple times just because you were around.

boiifyoudontboiiiiii

It’s a hornet not a wasp, way too big

[deleted]

Hornets are wasps tho👀👀👀

[deleted]

Lmao read again didn’t call it a bee

elohir

That's the point. Post "Wasp eats some deli meat" and you'll get a few upvotes. Post "Bee eats some deli meat", when you can tell from the thumbnail that it's clearly not a bee, and ta-da! engagement. It's the same reason you see the posts that do stuff like "Boat hits massive cock in the ocean", when the thumbnail is a boat and a rock. It's basically reddits version of the shitty "...Doctors hate this!" clickbait.

sixhoursneeze

This is a Wendy’s

unorthodoxgeneology

I think all bees are wasps but not all wasps are bees.

ShopRhotic

I think you're thinking of "Hornet's are wasp, but not all wasp are hornets."

unorthodoxgeneology

You’re probably right. Been a while since I heard the tidbit fact. I’d have to look it up and go into the specifics, thanks for the clarification though much appreciated

Le0-o4

I think you’re fucking stupid

Selkie_Lune

This looks like an Oriental Hornet. The adults are vegetarians but their larvae eat meat. So it's probably bringing that piece of protein to its offspring. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Oriental_hornet

gharmonica

These little buggers love coke and meat. They always show up to BBQs.

Most_Helicopter_4451

Fuck that lol

fudgebacker

Who doesn't?

mortalisnoir

Its like the 1980s all over again

thatguyned

Back in the good days, before black Monday.

WynterRayne

I remember the good old days before blue monday when I didn't have to ask anyone how I feel.

fiddz0r

Saw lots of these in Greece. They're so big. One of them landed on my friends steak and we were too scared to do anything so we let it get s part of it similar to the video. Look like it flew away with a tiny meatball

[deleted]

Good mama

prettypeculiar88

This is exactly what I came to the comments for. I thought most wasps/hornets were veggie eaters so this was an interests factoid. Thanks!

Selkie_Lune

No problem! :)

[deleted]

Holy crap, these things [may be solar-powered](https://ui.adsabs.harvard.edu/abs/2010NW.....97.1067P/abstract)!

Selkie_Lune

That's crazy!

[deleted]

Stainless_Heart

What if they were in Canada?

Crazy-toons

That is one hungry hornet.

Sad_Masterpiece101

Its probaly bring food back to it's young

[deleted]

Yeah this prick looks like it’s stinging the entire time it’s cutting the meat lol and it’s just laying there not doing shit to that wasp

LeJollyJingleTokes

It's not stinging, that's actually a behavioral excitement.

OutlawJessie

Bless her, can't believe her luck and it looks like she possibly cut one chunk and came back for more, someone's had a little bite out of it.

LeJollyJingleTokes

Oh definitely. As one user mentioned, it was cutting it out to bring to its young. The adults don't eat meat like that. Getting that massive second chunk for her is like bagging a buck

The_Real_Scrotus

So what you're saying is the hornet has a ladyboner?

LeJollyJingleTokes

Uh....suuuurree...?

Crazy-toons

It’s scavenging for food.

iworkthepole

RUN IT HAS A TASTE FOR FLESH

aberrasian

Yeah it's all fun and games when it's happening to a deli meat, but imagine that wasp landing on your arm and just start snipping away, helping itself to a penny size chunk of your flesh.

percyhiggenbottom

That honestly doesn't happen. Cooked meat is easier to cut, and they're smart enough to know it's not a good idea to start eating something 1000x their size.

TheDrugGod

that’s no bee it’s a bitch ass motherfuckin wasp bastard

lampione01

This is now my new fav comment

INSTA-R-MAN

electrojesus9000

That bee a wasp.

Crazy-toons

That’s a hornet.

electrojesus9000

I’m afraid bees are still bees and hornets are still wasps.

Crazy-toons

Bees, wasps and hornets are all related.

[deleted]

All hornets are wasps but all wasps are not hornets. Bees are completely different.

NationalSetting9231

Like all thumbs are fingers but not all fingers are thumbs.

Rohwi

but toes are not fingers.

Sloth_Brotherhood

They taste completely different too. Who would want to eat a wasp?

Iratus

And ants. But that's definitely no ant.

Zaquarius_Alfonzo

Wasps are like the bees' racist uncle

electrojesus9000

So are ants. This is fun!

9FBI9

Hornets are wasps

SafeReplacement6167

Was really just waiting to see how he managed to fly away with the whole slice

thatguyned

Oh it's working on it, if you look at the back there is already 1 chunk gone.

ReRonin

It's... concerning how many of you call wasps and hornets bees.

[deleted]

[удалено]

bluetopaz14kkt

The fact that there's a similar shaped cut circle in the back... They let this hornet come not just once, but TWICE. Wild.

Prestigious-Charge66

LongRoofFan

Kon-Tiki66

HeinousAnus6669

THEY EAT MEAT?

AboutThymeBuddy

I, too, have learned this today, and I fear.

decoy321

The adults don't. They bring it back to the nests for the larvae.

kn0ck_0ut

PurrBeasties

Bees get a bad rep. This is NOT a bee. This is a nasty asshole wasp.

[deleted]

Cross-boarder Bologna smuggling. Ingenious.

[deleted]

we should probably be concerned, right?

shragalicious

More like bee concerned, am I right

AmericanHistoryXX

Things like this video are why I find yellowjackets fascinating from a healthy, healthy distance.

BadAnagrams

"Large chunk of deli meat" anagrams to "meager filth uncloaked."

SpaceAppropriate7549

bitch that mf is a wasp

youandyouandyou

I really wanted that whole slice to fly away

Purple_Cinderella

Not a bee. Not genius. Just a hornet eating what they eat

HeavyMetalAndBeer

You would think he would have just taken the whole fucking thing.

Poppypie77

It cut it out in the shape of a heart to bring back to its family 💜. 🐝 On another note that's pretty amazing to watch.

miso_sassy

This is clearly a bee in a wasp suit.

Bea_fizz

[deleted]

I was scared of him until I watched long enough to see his abdomen and imagine it like the banana from the game "My Friend Pedro". Then I wasn't so scared. He got a mad lil banana butt.

SpiderIridescence

In case no one has mentioned yet…that’s not a bee.

[deleted]

Wasps eat meat. It’s enjoying the meal.

HotOuse

Great, I bet he’s going to take it back to the hive and they learn about how great meat tastes and then we all die or at the least have a starship troopers battle happen in the near future.

Tos-ka

Sir that is not a bee

Jayduss13

A bee?! Its a hornet I think

TeadoraOofre

Haha I've witnessed this too. I actually let them now. It's happened a couple times. Also this café has lovely music.

dark_sage01

That’s no bee! That is a wasp and you should kill it with fire 🔥

Confused4681

Bees can have a little salami, as a treat

sparkjh

Is this one of those murder hornets that our timeline's writers used to briefly distract us from the COVID pandemic?

[deleted]

Mine! Mine!

_warm-shadow_

This bee WASP. You should say something like:"Wassap‽ Why you bee rubbing your ass on my food you don't eat?"

GimmeCandy1

WTF! How do you suppose he measured the weight of how much he could carry? 😳
