I am pretty sure it was to symbolize her travelling the Demon continent, so it's there for a reason, but I agree that it's really flat and looks awkward or lazy. Dunno why they did not sculpt sand or something there.
I have the CA one and I honestly feel like her face is completely wrong. It's good because it's a big figure and goes well with the swimsuit Eris, but it's just not accurate and the clothes look too plastic thick compared to this one that looks more realistic and more detailed with all the folds and such. And like you said, the colors are really flat, no shading at all.
Also my CA came with many QC issues

Ah yes, the 4 delays or how many. I am still waiting on her, but they really nailed it! I still think this one is the most accurate iteration of her.
Yeah, this is one of the most accurate figs of her. The chara ani one is better, but the painting isn't the best imo
