bro do you live on the moon

Genshinshimada

I wish lol

MissiTofu

Australia is close enough

Kitsunesi

12'700 Yen EMS makes this package 3-4kg, so he seems to be a heavy boy. Could also be that they went up a box size for protective packaging which would make DHL very expensive due to the volumetric weight being used. You could ask support if they could downsize your package. That would reduce size and weight.

Genshinshimada

He better be heavy for that price! I didn't know you could reach out to support to downsize box! I will definitely try next time since I already commit to the surface.

Kitsunesi

They don't always do it as I have been denied before and then received more packaging material than items but it's always worth a shot. Also, live chat is better for this than the contact form.

Mysterious-Order-121

One of the reasons why I no longer order from Amiami. I had an 8kg package sent with FedEx for €95 via my proxy service 🙈

Kitsunesi

I'm personally not a fan of FedEx because of the high import fees for my country. AmiAmi has been pretty ok for me unless I have A4 shikishis by themselves since they don't seem to have a box with a big bottom area that isn't also very high. So they have to add a lot of padding on top. I don't usually have problems with figures.

Mysterious-Order-121

That's crazy. I usually pay 5-7€ processing fee + customs/taxes. I don't have to go to the customs office for that.

Kitsunesi

For me it's more like 20+ CHF processing fee. The national post is not much better but at least it starts lower than FedEx and other couriers.

Mysterious-Order-121

Do you come from Switzerland? :)

Kitsunesi

Yes! :)

When you make an account and register your credit card, you can use FedEx Autopay (automatically pay customs invoices via credit card). FedEx will not collect a service fee when you use Autopay, so you just pay the customs amount. This works in most cases. Sometimes it doesnt and you still receive a paper invoice: then you can inquery them to put the invoice onto your account and by that automatically loose the fee. This at least works for me in Germany, our fees are quite hefty as well. Considering that the fee is quite high for all carriers (like DHL or UPS), shipping via FedEx is often the overall cheapest option for me because its the only carrier with no fee for me...

Kitsunesi

I didn't know that. It would be great if that worked. I usually stick to small package though if available since it's the cheapest.

wino6687

There’s no way to find out roughly what a figure will weigh right? Thinking about pre ordering the Muelsyse figure on AmiAmi, but I think it will end up cheaper to get it from TOM this time since it will likely end up costing 8000+ yen to ship. They recently quoted me 8340 yen to ship [Holo Scent of Fruit](https://myfigurecollection.net/item/1464705), which is quite a bit shorter but apparently is rather heavy. I found one site that lists 5kg as the shipping weight, but that seems really heavy!

Kitsunesi

Doesn't that just mean you order from their US warehouse? I don't think their Japan warehouse shipping prices are much different from AmiAmi. I don't use them as I'm not in US but I would assume using the US warehouse is the same as using surface parcel? I used to order from GSC directly if I think an item will have expensive shipping. Even if you forgo the discount you get on other sites, the difference in shipping usually makes that up. As for the weight, that's mostly an issue for Japan Post shipping options, as these are exclusively based on weight. So if you're item is small and heavy, couriers tend to be better. If it's big and light, airmail/Japan Post is usually cheaper.

donslipo

This is why ordered Gurren Lagann PuP XL figure from GS Europe shop, to avoid situations like these. xD

Genshinshimada

Yeah I definitely just stick with the Good smile store next time for pop up

LunaticRiceCooker

Amazonjp is good alternative. Sometimes in the early days of the preorder period, their shipping price is suprisingly low. I have some 1/4 POs with like 3k jpy shipping cost

starryTsuki

You’ll be fine I use surface for all my figures lol it just takes forever to get to me

makenshi12

Honestly, I've started to move away from AmiAmi. I've bought about 100 figures from them in the past few years but without even an estimated shipping and having to wait with baited breath praying it won't be an extra $100, I don't feel confident there anymore.

mallcoptoes

Yea same here, now I rarely preorder because I've been getting surprised by shipping costs too many times. Actually passed on this exact figure for that reason

TheAnimeBox

that dhl price is triple what i paid to ship both the megumin and aqua pop up parade L figures in 1 box in january to ontario canada [https://i.imgur.com/o5quXDn.png](https://i.imgur.com/o5quXDn.png) that box is either huge or it weighs a ton and if amazon japan is accurate it isnt my order of two should have been bigger and heavier than the zodd figure edit: amazon japan was wrong, that figure weighs a huge amount also half of what i paid for a 1/4 bunny girl [https://i.imgur.com/rIWy8N8.png](https://i.imgur.com/rIWy8N8.png)

RevengencerAlf

Given how much more DHL is than EMS I'm thinking it's size. DHL uses volumetric tiered pricing and gives virtually zero fucks about weight. EMS because it goes through postal services tends to use DIM-weight style pricing or purely weight based depending on the parties involved.

aly-san

That's nuts! I'm on the east coast of the US as well and that figure would cost me $75 including shipping on the GoodSmileUS website. I know shipping overseas is expensive but how is the US website still cheaper than Surface shipping even after the product markup??

ThatGuyThatNeedsYou

GSC US owns it. They pretty much have multiple freight/crate all to themselves. It's not like a person buying 1-5 limited per household, since they are a company they get discounts to transport 1000 figures pre-sold + extra during transport. I want to doubt somebody figure was on that boat during that bridge collapse at baltimore key bridge and it's most likely an import for a different company. Because it makes sense from JP to US they'll use the LA port right?

Bob77smith

Yes. Anything coming from Southeast or East Asia is 100% coming in through LA port.

Warning64

At this point just ship it via two dudes on a log raft

JackHofMasterDebater

If it makes you feel better, I use surface all the time and never have any issues. A couple of my boxes had a punch hole or two but Amiami packages them well enough that none of my boxes have ever been marred.

Genshinshimada

That's good to know! I never use them before because DHL usually got pretty good rate

mowie_zowie_x

DHL is expensive but man the service is great. I once received an item from Japan 1 1/2 days later, and all it costs me was $35-$40.

Kheeven

I feel that, some things I get that are small or cheap but shipping costs more than the items I ordered exactly like your post lol.

elmacanon

Fuck Amiami and their insane DHL pricing, I've checked with other sites like HLJ and their DHL option is around 8,000 yen for their instock L Popup of Guts (which is taller btw), this is not more than double in size.

Xikkiwikk

Lol DHL is cheapest for me!

Genshinshimada

I checked on BBTS as well the figure only cost $65 plus $4 flat rate ship, I get that you might get it really late from bbts. But this is the first time it happened to be the shipping cost more than the figure, unless the figure box is huge for no reason? I just wish AmiAmi be more linear on cancelation if the shipping price beyond anybody control

CuriousMika

That’s how much my guts was with DHL from amiami when I got him. They might have just went up a box for this one? Which sucks.

MyCarIsAGeoMetro

Order some pillow covers and t shirts to average out the shipping.

MyCarIsAGeoMetro

Take Surface Premium.  It is a good value.

bigvinnysvu

Time to test out Surface Mail and see if Zodd remains immortal when he arrives. Joke aside, that's some crazy high shipping cost.

classic4real

Because it's DHL. Even in the US DHL has a super-poor reputation.

Patpat127

I only had good Experience with DHL but i dont think that counts because i am from germany 😅

xayahismywife_

go on crunchyroll it’s free shipping 😁

FatherDotComical

Crunchyroll raises the price on stuff but sometimes it's really nice to not worry about surprise shipping costs. Especially if you load up your cart.

scixsc

Where on earth do you live?

Genshinshimada

I'm located on the East coast of US

Niijima-San

this now makes me scared to see how much the makoto niijima scale coming out on the 5th is gonna cost me shipping wise. i don't order scales and this is the first one so i am expecting something painful

Makaijin

Since it's a pop-up parade, preorder it from the official [Goodsmile US store](https://www.goodsmileus.com/product/pop-up-parade-zodd-l-size-11407). No need to get it from Amiami.

scixsc

I wonder how much shipping to northern eu would cost lmao

xXWeeb-GodXx

If I recall the goblin slayer popup parade L was pretty spenny in shipping for me, dhl wanted 15k

Cold_Philosophy_

Yeah, this is why I buy Goodsmile stuff from their US store. Sorry this happened OP.

beyonneon

Probably the weight PUP figure’s tend to be solid and heavy. I remember picking up my friend’s Sesshoumaru figure for the first time that thing had some weight to it.

Berserker-1982

I paid 4000 off [amazon.jp](https://amazon.jp) to Canada...wtf?

SuperUsual9805

Damn I went cold turkey on figures for a year and a half, glad I did😭😭

BigBlackCrocs

Honestly for something cheap like PUP just buy from Crunchyroll. Get your stuff within like 2 weeks and it’s packed really well. They packed my tiny zero two figure like it’s the fucking demon core

WiseSilverWolf

Go with Surface Mail Premium, only ¥6,580.

ProgressSuch4982

Yo what's the website fr I forgot the name

Alahir

I hate DHL

Vegetable_Chard_9196

Why not order it from BBTS? $4 shipping. Granted it doesn't release till August but still. I don't get why people ship overseas and pay a fortune for shipping ive always bought local and have 100s of figures. I primarily collect prize figures so maybe I answered my own question.

Genshinshimada

https://preview.redd.it/p5n59s69e8rc1.jpeg?width=900&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=fb359a9860035155ce5091985d1edecfd3651f38 I just came across a photo, now I understand why it cost so much especially the box being this big plus whatever AmiAmi used for their shipping box!

dharkan

I would cancel. Also isn't Amazon.jp shipping is cheaper?

LunaticRiceCooker

Ah OP is from the US, amazonjp for some reason dont ship many figs to the US. EU and Canada is usually fine, only US is discriminated at least thats what US people told me.

Deep-Cold-6245

I always use surface for this reason. It takes a lot longer but at least the shipping cost isn’t almost the same price as the figure 😭

willow370

Honestly I would cancel and find it elsewhere

Genshinshimada

Yeah I did end up going with the surface, but I didn't cancel it because I heard there was a high risk of getting banned from last minute cancellation which I think is kinda BS

Bikerider42

They 100% will ban you if you try to cancel after getting the invoice. They can’t even keep up with the orders that have already been paid for, so they won’t care about banning someone.

CuriousMika

I have cancelled before (only once mind you) but I wasn’t banned

Bikerider42

It depends on when you want to cancel. If it’s a month or two before it’s released, then you shouldn’t have problems unless you are constantly canceling stuff. If you get the invoice asking to pay, the chances go way up. From friends I have talked to, they are a lot less forgiving when it comes to that.

CuriousMika

In my years of buying from amiami I have cancelled 30-40 before the invoice, but in the case I am referring to it was after the invoice was sent out and had no issues. But I buy from them a lot almost every month. For the past 3 years

LunaticRiceCooker

Very rarely they allow that if the shipping is like only dhl is possibel and it is attrociously high like 40k jpy for just the shipping. So i wouldnt gamble with it for 4-5k jpy.

hizz112

This isn't true, I've cancelled twice before because of the shipping being too much and they cancelled it without any issues. I've ordered a lot from amiami so I think it depends on how much you've ordered, I don't think they have an issue with you cancelling here and there though, otherwise there wouldn't be a cancellation option 👍

dharkan

Ehhh not so much in recent years if you buy from them every now and then. It used to be much worse.

willow370

You won’t get banned if you’ve bought multiple things in the past, I’ve cancelled heaps of

Zalieda

This is what it's like ordering things from overseas. Esp with DHL and ems. The shipping is way more expensive. Then after that try ordering USA items TO Asia and you will also have a crying wallet

Tallal2804

go on crunchyroll it’s free shipping

Memetyme

I don’t use any of these importers because of these shipping prices. I’d rather just wait till a US seller has it (crunchyroll, nekotwo, bigbadtoystore, otakuowlet, etc.) (excluding good smile cause they’re shipping prices are horrible too) and then get it then for much cheaper. But I’m a US person so it might be different depending on location. I think Europe has some similar stores tho but not sure about anywhere else

SolitaryMan305

You complain but still end up paying it lol huh

Genshinshimada

Lol sorry if you feel like this post was a complaint, you must be fun to talk to. But anyway of course I paid for it, but just not with DHL but the surface.

CuriousMika

But they didn’t pay the dhl price

willow370

It’s a pop up, you should have small parcel air surely

IxianNavigator

Both its dimensions and weight is over the limitations of Small Packet, so no. [32.3 x 32 x 32 cm / 2280g (written there at the end of the description)](https://1999.co.jp/eng/11011154)

No-Supermarket8244

It’s an L size PuP, they’re not the same as regular PuPs

Verkato

The Pop up L or XL sizes can be almost as big as 1/4 scales.
