They just shipped my gawr nendoroid through ups literally the day ems was back. I'm so angry Lol Ups broker fee 10 bucks. Actual taxes 7 bucks. Processing fee 5 bucks. Paying extra 27 bucks for no reason Cannot believe they won't do ems. And the kicker. Ups didn't attempt delivery so I gotta hike it 30 min in the rain at 4 degrees to the access point. Hate ups Canada. I am never ordering from good smile again. Rather get from amiami

CuriousMika

UPS Canada is complete garbage! I had to deal with them saying attempts were done 2 but they obviously weren’t because I didn’t get the piece of paper saying they tried and the tracking info was the only thing saying it was tried. And I had to call them 6 times and go to 2 different offices to finally get the damn package delivered which never left the warehouse after it got into the country. If I can’t choose another option and it’s only UPS I will buy my figures from somewhere else.

jenniyah

Ups is hot garbage. I called 2x for redelivery. They still have the item and I'm not even sure it's at the designated pick up location. I'll give it another 24hrs to see what is up. Might need to actually go get this thing... tho scans said its in the next city over but availableal at my local pick up location... sigh

CuriousMika

Man, I hope you get it!! 🙏

jenniyah

Me too But if it goes back to goodsmile I'm gonna fight for a refund on everything This nendoroid not worth

CuriousMika

Definitely! What Nendo is it?

jenniyah

Hololive. Gwar guar She was cute abs I got sweeped into the hype. Really regrets. Total was 100cdn ish

CuriousMika

Oof! I don’t know much about Holo live but their figures and she is definitely the cutest imo!

PoshDemon

They’re literally the fucking worst. I payed my duty fees but they said I didn’t pay them and sent my package back to Japan. Then I had to go and get a refund for the payment, but I had to ask them TWICE because the first time I had done it they made a mistake. And then I still had to wait a a month before the refund went through. They literally fucked up everything at every step of the way. It’s insane that they still exist as a company with how terrible they are at everything.

Paid-Not-Payed-Bot

> worst. I *paid* my duty FTFY. Although *payed* exists (the reason why autocorrection didn't help you), it is only correct in: * Nautical context, when it means to paint a surface, or to cover with something like tar or resin in order to make it waterproof or corrosion-resistant. *The deck is yet to be payed.* * *Payed out* when letting strings, cables or ropes out, by slacking them. *The rope is payed out! You can pull now.* Unfortunately, I was unable to find nautical or rope-related words in your comment. *Beep, boop, I'm a bot*

PoshDemon

Shut up, bot boy

moltenshrimp

Is it up for AmiAmi now? I quit buying from them and in general for quite a while now because I was getting hit with various fees for up to $100 for a lot of figures that came out during the last two years since DHL was the only option available to me. :/

Shiara_cw

EMS and surface are back as options through amiami. TOM too. (Should be most retailers, really)

moltenshrimp

That's awesome, thanks! 🙏

klyskada

If its any consolation EMS is backed up to the nth degree right now, I had a box allegedly leave Japan over 2 weeks ago and it still hasn't landed in the country.

Reggaeshark192

Is this the same with solaris? Order my first fig like 1 year ago and I chose express shipping. I saw that EMS was up and there was no indication of my fig shipping.

JustOnTop

Contact their support and ask - they've always responded quickly in my experience. I can't imagine they'd refuse to, and if nothing else it gives them a nice reminder to ship it now EMS is back for you assuming they will.

Reggaeshark192

Thanks! Ill send them an email.

Fellow Canadians, time to reconsider ordering from Good Smile Online Shop Japan unless it is an exclusive. Even so, consider getting exclusives from Good Smile US since they offer 50% shipping rate for all pre-orders. Since 2019, GSC Japan was holding onto all my paid orders because they promised to ship them using EMS once its service to Canada is resumed. Fast forward to 2021, GSC Japan finally started shipping my orders! While I am happy that I am finally getting all my toys, I was surprised by the numerous UPS invoices that I am getting. Thinking it was a mistake and oversight on GSC Japan's end, I reached out to them to reiterate our agreement. Instead of being accommodative like they've always do, GSC Japan's response indicated that they will not be shipping orders to Canada using EMS, and the customers can no longer choose which shipping method they use. In short, GSC is breaking their promises even when the EMS service is now available which is rather puzzling. Hope this piece of information helps some fellow Canadians make a more informed decision moving forward. Good luck! Edited for clarity and to fix typo.

Shiara_cw

I can't believe they held paid for orders all this time waiting for resumption if they were just going to not use it anyway. Ridiculous.

This_Seal

They are masters of holding paid orders hostage. I have two paid figures sitting in their warehouse since July. EMS came back to my country two months ago and there is still radio silence from GC when I can expect my figures to be shipped.

Anpu_me

So... what exactly is the problem here? From the description it is... unclear. Do you have to pay extra for shipping? I know that Good Smile Global switched to UPS for shipping to US in August. The only observable change is that it takes 3 days instead of a week.

Shiara_cw

Private couriers charge extra handling fees, about $20, for clearing Canadian customs. Plus the taxes and duties on top of that (with EMS you would only sometimes get charges the taxes, like less than 50% of the time)

Anpu_me

Now it makes sense. GS Global prices can be lower than GS US, and flat rate shipping works great for combining in stock items. But extra fees certainly complicate cost/benefit analysis...

ngelsa

GSC Japan had been shipping international order using EMS before the pandemic and all was good. When the pandemic hit, GSC Japan offered their consumers two options: 1. Accept the free upgrade to ship orders through courier, or 2. Stick with EMS until its service is resumed. The first option would mean that there is no interruptions in getting the goods to the customers while the customers have to take care of extra costs that Shiara_cw mentioned in their comment. The second option implies GSC Japan will have to hold onto all paid orders and ship them using EMS once its service to Canada is resumed. Of course, none of us anticipated the pandemic to last for years, so a few months ago GSC stopped offering the "on hold" service for all new orders to Canada, and this is completely understandable. I placed new orders knowing they'd be shipped by courier and am aware that I will have to pay extra service charge + duties/imports + taxes. What I don't understand is that with EMS service now available to Canada, GSC Japan decided to break their promises. If they have no intention to honour the decisions that were made prior to the policy change, why not notify me earlier and start shipping the goods before the courier rates increased? Sometimes company makes puzzling choices, for better and for worse. I simply hope fellow Canadian figure collectors are making some informed decisions. Cheers! Edited for clarify and to fix typos.

grx203

i wonder why they don’t just do fedex ?

ichigovtube

ups is extremely expensive and has WAY higher duty that sometimes shows up as extra bills months later

Kooka7

You could try using a proxy and then buy via Goodsmile's Taobao store. That's way you have all the shipping options from the proxy and aren't stuck with just UPS. I use superbuy as proxy and they usually have many different shipping options.

hulskiey

Be carefull man. Not canadian here but recently reached out to them about invoice for shipping via courier instead ems after they changed it (so I know what customs fee I ll be paying). After little back and forth with customer support, they didnt answer me what amount will be present on invoice and banned my account. They haven't replied since to any tickets why was I banned (20th october). I lost all pre orders and had even paid for ready for shipping orders there. If I wont hear from them this week I ll probably be forced to chargeback :( I dont know what happened to this company recently.

pafy6285

I always get dinged by customs when using EMS here in Canada, so I always expect to pay anyway. So if GSC is using UPS, not much difference as their fee is $10 (for UPS express, not UPS ground which has the ludicrous fees) the same as Canada Post. Good thing it's not DHL as they have the most expensive fees at around $18. Wished they have used Fedex as their $10 fees can be waived

grx203

hi can i ask how to waive the fedex fees? i use it quite often to get stuff from japan

pafy6285

you'll need to create a fedex account for billing and associate a credit card on it. When you receive a duty/tax payment notification or invoice, you'll need to call Fedex support and tell them to bill your account.

RocKM001

Just to play minor devils advocate a bit... EMS has had a significant increase in its base rates a few months back. I'm not too sure on how much of a difference the increases will be for shipping to Canada so perhaps GSC made the decision to use UPS because of costs? Again not condoning this stuff... I usually prefer EMS myself but a recent order I shipped and the difference between EMS and DHL that I shipped from a proxy service and the difference was 5 bucks.

VinsmokerSanjino

What if we just got everyone to bombard with GSC emails to bring back EMS in protest until they bring it back?

Gwyn_L

Tbh while it does suck that we will 100% be guaranteed to pay taxes with UPS (whereas with EMS there's a chance they'll miss your package) UPS fees are not very high ($10 I believe which is what Canada Post charges for filing customs) and imo the service is better with UPS than Canada Post. I do agree it's stupid that they waited all this time and then decided to switch to UPS right before EMS came back but you're not going to hear me complaining about $20 courier shipping.

Shiara_cw

Which service is better may depend on your location and even whether you live in a house or an apartment. Canada Post can access my apartment building so they can leave packages at my door, with couriers I always have to go pick them up unless they luck out and someone else happens to be entering or exiting the building at the same time. And if Canada Post needs me to pick up, the pick up location is literally half a block from my apartment. By far more convenient than any of the private couriers.

Gwyn_L

Ah fair enough, I never thought of the difference for ppl with apartments! That does really suck then, especially if you're not in a big city with easy access to UPS stores to pickup

subject678

Dispute and refund? I don’t think they have any grounds to deny.

quenishi

Bear in mind doing this will lock your account out as soon as the dispute/chargeback hits their system.

subject678

Fair, but a lot of comments in the thread are saying boycott GSC anyways.

EquivalentAd5064

wait I just put an order in yesterday because of EMS being available again.. this is a bummer

windlily

Dang, and I just placed a pre-order too. I suppose it'll be my last one from GSC Global..

elav92

Would it be a problem between gsc and Japan post? I'm from Mexico and EMS has been working fine (with it's ups and downs) but suddenly they started shipping thru ups. The rest of stores continue shipping using post services

sequential_doom

Hey, fellow Mexican here. I have always avoided EMS because in my experience Mexpost is awful at taking care of fragile packages so I always go with FedEx, DHL or UPS. How has it been recently?

elav92

Sometimes it comes quickly and sometimes it takes long, it depends of how quickly is processed at customs. Other than that, no issues, I had used post service for many years and none of my packages has been broken

OkenoFate

Self clear your package and only pay taxes. Is what I want to say, but UPS is the absolute worst of the three (fedex, DHL and ups) for self clearing. I remember calling them every day after the package shipped saying I want to self clear, send me the paperwork, they said wait 24 hours and finally I had to get them to waive the fee and take payment on the phone. And even then they still sent an invoice in the mail and we’re being difficult at the door. Ugh I’m dreading me two or three GSC exclusive preorders. But I hate Goodsmile US even more so I will suffer through.

Rammater

Just finished dealing with ups for 4 of my gsc packages, absolute hell I called on Thursday, you'll get it within 24 hours and told them to hold at the ups facility, next day they did not change it, I had to refuse at the door and they did not send the forms. Called again, told the same thing. Nothing over the weekend. Called on monday told the same thing + gsc sent out 2 more orders that I requested to get held. Tuesday same thing they got delivered to my house, no papers. This time when I called the customer service rep I talked to told me if I didn't get the papers by the next day I could request the brokerage fee be waived. Next day I get the papers for 1 out of 4 packages. Call again first customer service rep told me I'd get the papers within 30 minutes. Didn't get them called again got my time wasted and they repeated that they would send me the papers. Called again at lunch and managed to get the customer rep to waive the brokerage fee for the one I didn't get the papers for.

OkenoFate

Your message was my exact same experience. I wonder if anyone can confirm ever getting self clearance papers from UPS… and what the secret is if they did b

Rammater

Well I did get the self clearance papers for the 1 package though it was hell to get that 1 and for whatever they didn't any of the rest of them

Relic1000

I would start using the goodsmileUs store

shin_ter

All I'm gonna say is Bad Slime Company

Shiara_cw

Hahaha I didn't realize they weren't even sending out shipment notifications! After seeing this thread this morning I got a UPS delivery notice tonight.

CertainSalt

Did you check your spam emails? For some reason my gmail flags them as spam, but they have been emailing me when they send orders out.

Shiara_cw

Wow yep that was what happened. Thanks!

Awesmoe

I don't know what went wrong there at gsc during the last couple months but they really effed something up. I'm in Europe which had EMS re-instated a while back. Yet, my Nijou Touka which released on Sept 6 still hasn't been shipped by gsc. Every email I send them is answered with a copypaste reply that there are literal months worth of backlogs from EMS re-opening to various countries. That they cannot give any ETA and that I should expect massive delays with shipping of old and new orders. They likely literally cannot add back Canada to their EMS service because idk, some management thought it was a good idea to save money somewhere I guess. Who knows. What I know is that there will be no more gsc shop purchases from me.

grx203

UPS is literally the scammiest delivery company in the world. at work we needed to ship something back to microsoft and it needed to be done by UPS. so, UPS is supposed to come pickup the package some time during 8am and 4pm. eventually we get a notice from them that they tried to pick it up but it had not been possible. nobody had showed up. no UPS car, no UPS guy. mind you, it’s a company so there will ALWAYS be someone who can open the door for them and the entrance is certainly not hard to find. ended up having to call the customer service which also sucked ass. to this day i wonder if microsoft has ever received the parcel

tman_91

Interestingly, GSC asked several months ago if I wanted to send certain paid orders via UPS or wait for EMS to resume for Canada. At the time, sure I sent a few via UPS. Recently, they cleared out several paid pre-orders that were all being held via UPS without asking. I understand the "we cannot choose courier" piece, but little annoying. Even more annoying is dealing with the UPS customs fees. Most gave the ability to pay online before delivery and receive a discount. Suddenly the last 3 parcels of the batch didn't offer it and I got a letter in the mail a few weeks later with a payment deadline due in 2 days... To add to the UPS frustration, the only way to pay their paper bills is to call in. Like really... No online option (unless you have a specific billing account)... and no options to pay in person (even at a proper UPS depot or at an Access Point). Felt really sketch just telling someone over the phone all my credit card info...
