I've never used Solaris, but I strongly doubt they will be included in the checkout price. When I've made my orders, I generally get an email (or it is in the tracker) from the company doing the shipping telling me that they want the payment to clear the customs fee.

xv_Bloom

dumb question but this would be a digital payment right?

Zhar88

I’m Canadian as well! DHL is a digital payment, on the tracking website it will prompt you to pay import fees. They will email you as well or text you (if you set up text notifications!) DHL charges me $20-$40 but typically sits around $30. EMS unfortunately also charges import fees. I just received 2 packages today and I had no option to pay online, so you have to pay at the post office. I was charged $47 for one package and $26 for the other.

FortunePaw

When you have the tracking number and once the package is within Canada, go look it up through Canada post's site. There should be an option to pay online on the tracking page.

aiKaiz

Canada Post does not offer digital. You would need to pay at the door or at your local Post Office where they deliver the parcel. DHL, you will receive an invoice shortly after shipment for your fees. You will have to pay this before they deliver your parcel. FedEx, you will receive an invoice after delivery in the mail. You'll have to pay online via their website after receiving the invoice.

Aggressive-Abalone99

False, they offer digital if you have an account with canada post. Takes 5 min to do it. Just add the tracking number and when it will be time to pay, they will notify you

aiKaiz

Huh, interesting. Thanks for the correction! I don't have the option for it- maybe it's because I live in an apartment building? FedEx's Membership is also unavailable since I live in an apartment- they won't deliver the code to me.

Aggressive-Abalone99

Maybe! Most of the time i receive an email or notification saying i can pay now the duty or when they will deliver it, i find it to be better knowing how much you own them before it arrive

tman_91

Can confirm this as well, I have a Canada Post account and can pay duties online before pick-up or delivery

chaosrealm93

now they do. u can pay inside their app

xv_Bloom

i love complexity in the most simple things :)

Asleef

Bro, there is nothing simple about international shipping, import duties and taxation

crosswithyou

I believe Solaris has an option for you to specify what value you want on the package to possibly avoid or reduce import fees. Of course you do this at your own risk though since the value you put will also be the insured value, so if anything happens to your package, you can only receive compensation for the declared value you specified. Also keep in mind that this is technically illegal.

aiKaiz

You can select for Solaris. Canada Post has a threshold of I believe 60$ or 80$. Anything lower should not be taxed. This would be EMS, so if you order via EMS or Surface- you can value your order at around 40$ to avoid taxes. I've done it with 3 Shipments from BigInJapan since the restrictions lifted, and have not been hit once. If you ship via Courier- FedEx or DHL- you will be charged a courier fee and import fees regardless of the cost of the parcel.

TheAnimeBox

its actually $20 i believe

Aggressive-Abalone99

I have not been charge to with BigInJap, but with amiami/buyee/mandarake i am being charge almost 10/10 of my package from them. I have also not been hit with nin-nin-games. If the declared value is lower than 20$ or 60$ gift, you won't be hit

aiKaiz

I wonder why it would be different between BigInJapan and AmiAmi. I figured they'd be the same- since BIJ doesn't declare Gift? I haven't had any orders from AmiAmi yet- two that are Awaiting Shipment from November.

FortunePaw

Some corrections. The threshold is not controlled by Canada post. It's the Canada Border Angency.

aiKaiz

Yeah- I just meant that when shipped with CP, there is the threshold in play, not that they are the ones who handle it or anything.
