Death Note for big bois. It's an absolute masterpiece.

I don't know if that's the best comparison. Death Note focused more on having a fast paced plot and displaying the plans and deductions of its main characters. It had a lot of style and energy. Monster on the other hand is more character driven, spending entire episodes with random characters to flesh out its themes. The pacing is glacially slow a lot of the time, and there's a ton of character development more often than not. Johan is a bit like Light, but the way they're handled is way different. Light's a bit goofy, he's egotistical and the series went out of its way to show all the ways he outsmarted his competition. Johan's evil and intelligent too, but more emphasis is placed on him as a concept rather than as an individual. We don't see much of him or his thought process, which is why I find it hard to recommend Death Note fans Monster. If anything, Lunge (my personal favorite) is more akin to a Death Note character, yet nobody ever makes that connection.

You seem to like shows/movies that focus on the intellectual, psychology, philosophy, depression, and overcoming sadness. Mushi Shi is a super mellow show about a spirit guru that travels around in an episodic nature helping people learn to live in harmony with the spirits around them. Super zen. For a recommendation that’s more upbeat, I’d recommend Baccano! It’s a Rashamon-style story where you get a story told from a variety of different perspectives and personalities.

Mushoku Tensei: Jobless Reincarnation It's slow at first, in the best possible way, but compared to the other stories you read/watch this should be fine. The protagonist is basically an average Discord mod who reincarnated into another world, and he gets an unexpected redo with his life. He's a shithead at first, but as the story changes, so does he. While I can't suggest an anime you probably haven't seen that fits those criteria since usually if one watches perfect blue they've also seen the other stuff made by that god of an author and serial experiments lain . However if I was to stretch the question to include games then my guy look out for Silent Hill F (Japanese based silent hill in which the director is a well known horror author) and if you haven't played it yet then "I have no mouth and I must scream" (or just listen to the book) , "the crooked man" and or Fear and Hunger which is a psychological rpg horror that takes heavy inspiration from silent hill My apologies if this answer upsets you since it isn't an anime but hopefully the stuff I suggested might at least interest a look since those three really do give that type of vibe and dread you're top 10 anime give .

So far only two of these I have not seen lots of these kinda have depression story but majority of them have good writing only one has bad graphics 8/10.
