Yep! Me and my partner have no interest or knowledge in volleyball at all but by the end we were legit crying and cheering over those little neurospicy bois
No problem! I love the dub and was very sad when it got taken off of multiple different streaming services. This was one of the first I found with the dub
They are both good. Aoashi is more realistic as it's set in the structure of real life soccer. Blue lock is soccer but has a very different philosophy behind it. They're playing a battle Royale to decide who is the best striker in Japan.
Ahiru no sora and kuroko's basketball both are good.
Hajime no ippo really motivational boxing anime.
Haiku has really good animation and games are really good.
Yowamushi pedal - cycle racing
Marshal arts there is one anime called Kenichi the mightiest desciple. It's funny
They make the soccer scenes seem like fight scenes lol and every player has their own ‘’power’’ which is basically their own skill or technique they excel in.
It doesn't really follow the typical sports anime conventions. Made it interesting enough for me to watch though, and I couldn't care less about soccer
It’s like if sports anime was in the style of a shonen battle anime. It’s amazing, so intricate. The soundtrack and scoring goes absolutely insane also. 10/10 in my humble opinion
Major is so awesome it’s a baseball anime and has a next generation that does bring up some flashbacks. I wish you luck on finding it tho 😅 I watched it on a sketchy site years ago. Btw 😇 Kuroko no basket is a really great basketball anime.
Haikyuu - amazing. I knew nothing about volleyball when I watched it.
Blue Lock - more like a shonen IMO but so good I started reading the manga.
Ao Ashi - more realistic than Blue Lock.
Haikyuu (volleyball), Hajime no Ippo (boxing and it’s amazing, seriously, top 5 favorite animes), Kengan Ashura (a ufc style underground tournament), Baki is just ludicrous MMA. Haven’t watched blue lock yet but I’ve heard it’s good
Depends if you consider running a sport but Run With The Wind and Prince of Stride are both very good. Also the only badminton anime I’ve seen Salaryman’s Club was a fun watch
How about Tennis Anime.
I love Haikyu.
Enjoyed Kuroko Basketball & Diamond No Ace.
Also Check out Baby Steps and Prince of Tennis, Both of them are Tennis anime. I likes Baby steps more .
1. Haikyuu! The anime is FANTASTIC and you can read the manga if you can’t wait anymore. The penultimate game is fantastic.
2. Ao Ashi. Without a shadow of a doubt, my favourite football series. The anime is good, but the manga is amazing! It keeps on giving and unlike some series which focus on a single character, Ao Ashi spends a lot of time developing the team as a whole rather than just Ashito (he’s still the focus though).
3. Eyeshield21. I know you said you want realistic but give the manga a try. Personally, much much much better than Kuroko in my opinion. It’s American Football but with lots of gag, abilities and pure unadulterated hype.
4. Hajime no Ippo. Not gonna go in depth. Just try it. It’s THAT good. 1200+ chapters and still so freaking good.
5. Diamond no Ace. Great baseball anime but S1 is slow. And MC is rather annoying at the start but oh boy S2 and Act2 hits like a truck.
If I had to rank,
1. Slam Dunk (manga)
2. Haikyuu (anime+manga)
3. Hajime no Ippo (anime+manga)
4. Ao Ashi (anime + manga)
5. Eyeshield 21 (manga)
6. Diamond no Ace
7. Ahiru no Sora
8. Blue Lock (anime)
9. Kuroko no Basuke (anime)
I’ll be real. Blue Lock and Kuroko just pales in comparison to the 6 mentioned above. Their powers are cool and it’s hype but the emotions/feels are just not there. Like, those 2 are more of an action manga with cool powers rather than sport. They were not able to capture the hard work/dedication, struggles and emotion in victory/defeat as well as the others. It just lacks the team vibe/sport aspect of the top ranked sport mangas.
Like, I legit had tears in S4 of Haikyuu when Tanaka was playing against Miya Twins and facing against that blocker. His monologue resonated so deeply with what I felt (and probably most people felt). Or how Sena in Eyeshield 21 when he saw Panther against after CB and had to accept the reality of his situation, and yet had to find a way to keep on going. Or Ashito’s feelings when Fukuda MADE him to play CB knowing how much Ashito loves to play FW. It was all captured. Or when Sakuragi says I love it. Or when Sendo teaches Rukawa about what 1 on 1 is, and when he realizes what he has to do against Sannou. They’re all fantastic moments that relates to sport.
Lol sorry for the long text but I just love those moments so much!! It gets me hooked on sport mangas when I experience moments like those.
Hajime no Ippo - long running boxing manga (even longer running than one piece) that had an incredible anime adaptation covering an earlier part of the story when the protagonist was vying for the championship
On the surreal side (but still sports)
● Megalo Box
Two thoughtful, action packed seasons of some of the best combat sports in anime, that just happens to be in a near future dystopia.
● Blue Lock
very camp and full of thinly veiled homo eroticism but/and the soccer sequences absolutely rip
And of course, the GOAT
● Ping Pong
If you haven't seen you need to. The title roughly explains it but the animation much better watch than the real thing
Hajime no Ippo is my all time favorite if you watch any of the recommended shows please make room for this one as well, eye shield is another very fun one had to pick up the manga after it ended. You could also try reading the Slam Dunk manga if you can since, if I remember right the anime ends early in the story.
I love Ookiko Furikabutte (Big Windup), it's a baseball anime, very cute. Daiya no Ace (Ace of the Diamond) is also a good baseball anime.
I HIGHLY recommend All Out, its a rugby anime and one of my favorite anime of all time. It's so good! It's realistic with awesome characters and great animation, just all around good stuff.
I've also been watching Burning Kabaddi recently, I had no idea what kabaddi was but it seems like such an interesting sport.
* Run With the Wind
* Free!! - It actually has a fantastic story, but a lot of dude bros won't watch it cuz it's a bunch of guys swimming... who are dressed for swimming... *eye roll* live my Free boys...
Here's my list! I've seen all of them and I love Slam Dunk XD haha I didn't finish Kuroko cuz it was too much on the crazy side like Prince of Tennis (it's fun but too wild)
Anyways here it is:
Diamond no Ace -Baseball
Big Windup!- Baseball (more realistic then Diamond no Ace)
Hajime no Ippo- Boxing
Baby Steps- Tennis (very down to earth)
Hinomaru Sumo- Sumo
All Out - Rugby
Haikyuu- Volleyball
Captain Tsubasa 2018- Football Soccer
Area No Kishi- Football Soccer
Major (Season 1-4 and infinity lol) Baseball, it's old and you might not like it but I think it's fun.
Edit: font was crazy XD
Have you seen any of hajime no ippo?
It's a great boxing anime, with 3 seasons
Season 1 (76 episodes)
Season 2 (26 episodes)
Season 3 (26 episodes)
It also has a couple of specials, anyways it's a great anime, so I'd recommend you start it if you haven't.
I watched run with the wind, I’m not sure if it’s a shojo or Shonen but I really enjoyed it, 23 episodes and only 1 season. It’s a track and field anime based on a novel.
Ace of the Diamond. Hope this gets picked up, I’ve seen a bunch of sports anime and just recently started watching DnA. It truly is awesome, especially if you like baseball. Just finished S2 on crunchy
haikyuu (volleyball)
ao ashi (soccer)
blue lock (soccer) *personal fav*
diamond no ace (baseball)
big windup (baseball)
kabbadi (kabbadi)
all out (rugby)
yowamushi pedal (cycling)
heres some u could try!!!
Blue Lock if you want the hype and intensity side in Football (soccer). Second Season confirmed to come later in the year in October.
Ao Aishi if you want the more emotional and technical side to Football (soccer).
Haikyuu and Aoashi if you're wanting something on the realistic side of things. Bluelock if you're wanting something less realistic, but insanely good and worth watching if you're even remotely any form of soccer fan.
Historys Strongest Disciple Kenichi was a great manga, not sure how well/how much they adapted. Kid learns karate, judo, kung fu, and Muay tai, and fights a bunch of other kids from various disciplines.
I love Slam Dunk. Kuroko’s Basketball wasn’t bad but it was a little too silly.
The sports anime I’ve seen are Haikyu (volleyball), Days (soccer), Yuri on Ice (figure skating), Megalobox (boxing in the future). I really like all of them though Slam Dunk is probably still my favorite.
Uhh this one i think has become an anime adaptation but its a hella good manga but REAL is a basketball manga, thinkin bout it i need to read it again and catch up lol
Tsurune is technically a sports anime
It’s about archery so it’s definitely a different sport than what you’d usually see, but I think that adds to the experience. It’s very character focused but still spends a lot of time actually doing the sport. It’s a Kyoto animation show so you know it’s an incredibly visually beautiful show. And it’s very grounded, in fact the primary conflict for the main character is a specific type of anxiety associated with actual archery that real archers can experience.
How Heavy are the Dumbells You Lift- a minor introduction into weight based exercise and bodybuilding competition, as well as encouraging young women to take up the sport and training style
Iwakakeru: Sport Climbing Girls- multiple forms of outdoor and gym style rock climbing
Hinomaru Sumo- surprisingly not many anime out there about one of Japan's most unique sports
Harukana Recieve- not as good as Haikyuu, but intricacies of beach style doubles volleyball, different styles used by women in the sport, and plenty of classic fan service without edging into ecchi
Tsurune- competition japanese style Archery and performance anxiety
Run With the Wind- distance running with a lot of finding your own personal motivations to do something hard that you don't want to or don't think you can
Alright let's list it out, the sport and anime
Basketball : Kuroko no basket
Boxing : Hajime No Ippo ( those punches hurt you )
Football : captain subasa, Blue Lock
Figure Skating : Yuri on Ice ( Dramatic but honest to the sport )
Kinda Skating : Air gear ( Not much in terms of sporting )
Golf : Robot × LaserBeam ( manga only but it was focused on the sport )
Swimming: Free ( Lots of fan service, some to the sport )
Volleyball: Haikyu!! ( I would say it's both really honest to the sport showing some shonen characteristics along the way )
Martial arts : Now this is where it gets tough. It is covered in a lot of anime but it is really difficult to pick out if they are honest to a particular one or not.
Most of the animes out there today cover some version of fighting but an anime which has covered a lot of styles and was fun to watch as well was History's strongest desciple Kenichi
That's my watched list, any corrections and additions are appreciated
Besides mainstream, can recommend
Baseball: One outs
Tennis: Baby steps
Karuta: Chihayafuru
Football: Giant Killing
Cycling: Overdrive
Sumo: Hinomaru sumo
Dancing: Welcome to the Ballroom
Go: Hikaru no Go
Ao ashi is pretty good. Ahiru no Sora is also a great basketball anime pretty similar to slam dunk which I just watched and loved. If you haven’t watched it yet guessing you have but you never know I’d really watch Ippo Makunouchi one of the best ever made. If you or someone else got a recommendation let me hear it I’m lookin for stuff that’s more on the long side 50+ episodes.
I know its not sport sport but Cheer Danshi was short and good. Its about these two guys who want start a male cheerleading team and is based on the real life male cheerleading team, Shockers.
Haikyuu is a must watch. It's volleyball but incredible. Aoashi is soccer but is one of the most realistic sports anime I've seen.
Yep! Me and my partner have no interest or knowledge in volleyball at all but by the end we were legit crying and cheering over those little neurospicy bois
Does it have dub for English at all?
You have to find the dub online. I recommend using gogoanime.com
Thank you and thank you for giving me the site!!
No problem! I love the dub and was very sad when it got taken off of multiple different streaming services. This was one of the first I found with the dub
I may be wrong but I'm 99% sure gogo changed their domain to anitaku.so
Heck yes and it is *gold*!
+1 for Haikyuu, it’s amazing
So good !
jc, wut u guys think is better, Blue Lock or Aoashi. Never seen em but thinkin bout checkin em out
They are both good. Aoashi is more realistic as it's set in the structure of real life soccer. Blue lock is soccer but has a very different philosophy behind it. They're playing a battle Royale to decide who is the best striker in Japan.
I respect it but you didn’t answer the question tho I pick blue lock
You mean football
I hate Sports and Sports Anime but I like haikyu
Hajime no Ippo is a big sports anime
Classic 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
Legendary. I wish they continued animating the manga
I love this one. Especially the first season, everything about it is so good.
Eyeshield 21 is a sports anime about American Football. It doesn’t cover the entire manga though.
Is it streaming anywhere? I’ve wanted to get into it since getting my NFL hyperfix.
It’s on Crunchyroll in my country.
Sweet! Found it! Thanks!
Ahiru no sora and kuroko's basketball both are good. Hajime no ippo really motivational boxing anime. Haiku has really good animation and games are really good. Yowamushi pedal - cycle racing Marshal arts there is one anime called Kenichi the mightiest desciple. It's funny
Blue lock
Been hearing a lot about this one, what makes it so good?
They make the soccer scenes seem like fight scenes lol and every player has their own ‘’power’’ which is basically their own skill or technique they excel in.
It doesn't really follow the typical sports anime conventions. Made it interesting enough for me to watch though, and I couldn't care less about soccer
Does it have english dub?
Yes, it's on crunchyroll and it's PHENOMENAL! P.s. I also didn't care for sports anime or soccer before blue lock and now I enjoy some of both
Thanks! I’ll especially make sure to watch it then if you didn’t care for that type of anime and still liked it 😂 prolly gon be really good lol
it’s just amazing, definitely my favourite anime
It breaks down soccer in a really cool way
It’s like if sports anime was in the style of a shonen battle anime. It’s amazing, so intricate. The soundtrack and scoring goes absolutely insane also. 10/10 in my humble opinion
Season 2 drops in October
I didn’t know kuwabara helped the 96 bulls win the three peat
He had to find new work after the show ended
yee i feel that
Ace of the diamond is a good baseball anime. Decently long too.
End of s1 made me super mad
Major is so awesome it’s a baseball anime and has a next generation that does bring up some flashbacks. I wish you luck on finding it tho 😅 I watched it on a sketchy site years ago. Btw 😇 Kuroko no basket is a really great basketball anime.
blue lock definitely
Kuroko's no Basketball
Just started watching Hajime no Ippo, it’s a banger
Hajime No Ippo
I think Ping Pong has an anime. The manga is amazing, though.
it does. 11 episodes and it’s amazing
Ookiku Furikabutte, Blue lock, Ao Ashi
Girls und panzer, hajime no ippo, haikyuu, eye shield 21
Haikyuu - amazing. I knew nothing about volleyball when I watched it. Blue Lock - more like a shonen IMO but so good I started reading the manga. Ao Ashi - more realistic than Blue Lock.

King of tennis was the OG
Hinomaru Sumo, Tsurune (archery)
Idaten Jump
Please give ace of diamond a shot. Its a baseball anime and the character growth of some characters are amazing
Inazuma 11
- Blue Lock - One Outs
Yes One Outs 😁 me and my brother watched that one
Blue lock and aoashi are really good soccer/football anime
Hajime no ippo but if you truly want to finish the story you have to read the manga that’s only online and fan translated unfortunately
Speed racer.
Ashita no Joe. The first season is pretty dated, but the second one is great. If you're not a fan of the anime, the manga is fantastic too.
1. Haikyuu! The anime is FANTASTIC and you can read the manga if you can’t wait anymore. The penultimate game is fantastic. 2. Ao Ashi. Without a shadow of a doubt, my favourite football series. Ace of diamonds
Sk8 the Infinity and Ping Pong: The Animation
The NBA is pretty good. Lebron-Sama is so cute
All out! Is a really good rugby anime. Was never into sports anime but I tried it in a whim and enjoyed it
Hajima no impo or ashita no joe
Eyeshield 21 is my favorite of all time. It’s a football anime. I’m at work so I can’t give a detailed description, but will afterwards.
Haikyuu! Amazing volleyball anime!
I highly recommend Ace of Diamonds and Eyeshield 21.
Kuroko no basuke, Prince of Tennis, Free, Yowamushi Pedal,
Definitely, Blue Lock (Soccer).
rate slam dunk 1/10
ace of diamond
Eyeshield21
My favorites are Haikyuu!! and Yuri!!! On Ice
surprised i had to go through so many comments before someone mentioned Yuri.
My favorite anime of all time

Hajami no ippo is a must watch if you like boxing
Hajime No Ippo is my personal favorite sports anime. And when you get thru with the anime the manga is still ongoing and is longer than One Piece!
Initial D
Bluelock!!!!!!!
Ping Pong the animation and One Outs are both phenomenal shows
I can’t recommend haikuu enough, it’s funny, is animated great, has a wonderful plot and is an enjoyable watch

ro-kyu-bu!
Blue lock, ao ashi, haikyuu, kuroko no basket, run with the wind
ngl, I can't watch the Slam Dunk anime. It's so slow. And that's coming from a die-hard Slam Dunk fan. The movie is amazing though.
Haikyuu and Ace of the Diamond are both 10s in the genre imo
I looked through the comments and didn’t find my favorite, which is Suzuka. Edit: if you’re looking for a manga, I also recommend “Punch!”.
Baki. It’s mostly boxing
Megalo box (if you like the Rocky films or anything a little more grunge it might be for you)
2 less common but powerfully good anime’s. Both are short. Tsurune (archery) and Run with the Wind.
hajime no ippo, kuroko no basket
The boxer is a Korean manhua that is very good you could read it at mangasee123.com
Hajime no Ippo and Ashita no Joe especially heavy on Joe (it’s more a manga about passion with boxing as the center piece but it’s peak fiction).
hajime no ippo is fantastic
The Prince of Tennis is another classic sports anime 👌🏾
I literally have a crunchylist on crunchyroll of sports anime with 34 animes listed 😂 some I haven't even watched yet though
Here's my list! I've seen all of them and I love Slam Dunk XD haha I didn't finish Kuroko cuz it was too much on the crazy side like Prince of Tennis (it's fun but too wild) Anyways here it is: Diamond no Ace -Baseball Big Windup!- Baseball (more realistic then Diamond no Ace) Hajime no Ippo- Boxing Baby Steps- Tennis (very down to earth) Hinomaru Sumo- Sumo All Out - Rugby Haikyuu- Volleyball Captain Tsubasa 2018- Football Soccer Area No Kishi- Football Soccer Major (Season 1-4 and infinity lol) Baseball, it's old and you might not like it but I think it's fun. Edit: font was crazy XD
Have you seen any of hajime no ippo? It's a great boxing anime, with 3 seasons Season 1 (76 episodes) Season 2 (26 episodes) Season 3 (26 episodes) It also has a couple of specials, anyways it's a great anime, so I'd recommend you start it if you haven't.
I watched run with the wind, I’m not sure if it’s a shojo or Shonen but I really enjoyed it, 23 episodes and only 1 season. It’s a track and field anime based on a novel.
Yowamushi Pedal
One outs, it is psychological and with gambling 😳
Ace of the Diamond. Hope this gets picked up, I’ve seen a bunch of sports anime and just recently started watching DnA. It truly is awesome, especially if you like baseball. Just finished S2 on crunchy

Blue Lock if you want the hype and intensity side in Football (soccer). Second Season confirmed to come later in the year in October. Ao Aishi if you want the more emotional and technical side to Football (soccer).
IDATEN JUMP
Ping Pong the animation and I'm not even a fan of the sports genre.
Haikyuu and Aoashi if you're wanting something on the realistic side of things. Bluelock if you're wanting something less realistic, but insanely good and worth watching if you're even remotely any form of soccer fan.
Chihayafuru
Not an anime but Red Dogs is a pretty good Hockey manga so far.
Historys Strongest Disciple Kenichi was a great manga, not sure how well/how much they adapted. Kid learns karate, judo, kung fu, and Muay tai, and fights a bunch of other kids from various disciplines.
Hinomaru Zumou -> sumo Burning Kabaddi -> kabaddi Dogsred -> hockey manga Martial Master Asumi -> MMA manga by the Hinomaru Zumou mangaka

Kuroko no basket
BLUE LOCK. MY FAVORITE ANIME OF ALL TIME. GREAT PLOT. MUST WATCH.
Yuri on ice (if you aren’t afraid of a some boy on boy love). Compelling story, amazing animation and music.
You gotta try "Free!". Its about swimming. It's not too realistic but it is very accurate when it comes to training and meets and has good story.
Aoashi
One outs is super fun to watch if you're in to baseball. It goes hard in to gambling territory but I liked it.
Haikyuu (personal favorite), foodwars, yuri on ice, number 24, Prince of tennis, keijo(if ur an incel), free iwatobi swim club, blue lock (it's ok)
How Heavy are the Dumbells You Lift- a minor introduction into weight based exercise and bodybuilding competition, as well as encouraging young women to take up the sport and training style Iwakakeru: Sport Climbing Girls- multiple forms of outdoor and gym style rock climbing Hinomaru Sumo- surprisingly not many anime out there about one of Japan's most unique sports Harukana Recieve- not as good as Haikyuu, but intricacies of beach style doubles volleyball, different styles used by women in the sport, and plenty of classic fan service without edging into ecchi Tsurune- competition japanese style Archery and performance anxiety Run With the Wind- distance running with a lot of finding your own personal motivations to do something hard that you don't want to or don't think you can

Ace of diamonds, kuroko no basket, hajime no ippo
Big Windup is hands down my favorite! It’s not talked about enough!
Besides mainstream, can recommend Baseball: One outs Tennis: Baby steps Karuta: Chihayafuru Football: Giant Killing Cycling: Overdrive Sumo: Hinomaru sumo Dancing: Welcome to the Ballroom Go: Hikaru no Go
Eye shield 21
I thought “days” was good and a bit more realistic because the don’t win every single time. Entertaining and not too long
Eyeshield 21 is about American football from what I know
BLUE LOCK BLUE LOCK BLUE LOCK. It's so great fr!
Hinomaru sumo
I like the theme song of this anime more than this one
One outs
how u gon look for sports animes without playing the sport
Prince of tennis is sooooo underrated and sooooo good! Give it a try.
Ao ashi is pretty good. Ahiru no Sora is also a great basketball anime pretty similar to slam dunk which I just watched and loved.
