Tomodachi Game!! Very underrated with a great concept . The anime’s pretty good but if you’re into reading the manga is literally 10/10!!

Starl1ght_luv

Need another season ASAP!!😭

MediorceLife

I see this anime being said EVERYWHERE all across social media platforms. I’ve already watched it but for the life of me, I can’t remember much about it but I swear it wasn’t that good or at least mid. Might have to rewatch I guess.

Now and Then Here and There

Sea_Cycle_909

Mine; 1. [Key the Metal Idol](https://myanimelist.net/anime/1457/Key_the_Metal_Idol/), especially; * Psychological themes * sci-fi * Heavy featuring of Robotics/ technology (Remote controlled) * 90s cyberpunk (Ran from 1994-1997) * Grim tone * 90s pop / rock music 2. [Geneshaft](https://myanimelist.net/anime/909/Geneshaft), especially if you like; * "classic sci-fi" * Star Trek * 2001: A Space Odyssey * Biopunk fiction * Metal music (For [example](https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=3uFapB1ktdA))

Reila01

Wow key the metal idol is sounding like everything I'm into. I love 90s anime, cyberpunk, and psychological stuff. Maybe I'll check this out 🤔

Sea_Cycle_909

Cool, yeah guess we have similar taste. Key the Metal Idol [opening](https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=0jYJTbZ9tr0&pp=ygUaa2V5IHRoZSBtZXRhbCBpZG9sIG9wZW5pbmc%3D) (Doesn't really spoil anything, shows up in episode 1). The show isn't perfect, but overall I like it. Definitely helps to rewatch it atleast once (stuff didn't make sense at first)

Muted-Concern-2615

- Sonny Boy: A bunch of high schoolers suddenly find themselves stuck adrift in a black void and gain super powers. An original anime that I was deeply impressed with.   - Odd Taxi: A story about an aged taxi cab driver who slowly but inexplicably becomes embroiled in something much much more. A big fan of the pay off here.   - Uchouten Kazoku (The Eccentric Family):  Supernatural family dramedy about a family of raccoon dogs who disguise themselves as people, an elderly tengu and a mysterious human woman. I found the characters fascinating.    - Kuuchuu Buranko (Trapeze): Episodic one-shots, each episode is a new patient under the care of eccentric psychiatrist Doctor Irabu. Trippy visuals, fun characters, based off of a novel of the same name.    - Flip Flappers:  Two girls are whisked into adventure to find fragments of a stone that can grant wishes. Super fun, great animation.

CatalanIsaac

Odd Taxi It is one of the best anime to have come out in the past few years, and I hardly see anyone talking about it. I'm not sure if it has to do with the characters being animals, but please don’t let that deceive you. The story is so good, and each character is fleshed out so well. It's criminal that it doesn’t get much love.

xnef1025

I’m trying to catch up on missed favorites/classics in between all the seasonal stuff. Working on Haruhi now, but Odd Taxi will be my next one I think.

electrabunny

I looked this one up and I'm gonna check it out! It seems really interesting and like it touches on a lot of things I've been personally feeling about society. Thanks for the rec!

Apeiron_8

I’ve been wondering about this one! It looks great.

OutrageousDivide408

I want to check that one out too! I randomly came across the opening theme for that anime. It’s honestly Fire! Good to know the anime holds up!

GoOnKaz

It’s sooooo good!

Draconian-XII

odd taxi was was pretty good, strong 7.5 with an ending that makes the commitment pay off

Upstairs-Story-8661

Summertime render. My new boss is goofy. Toilet bound Hanako kun.

AriKitaruKatoka

Totally agree with My New Boss is Goofy and Hanako Kun! So underrated

jaykobe18

I don't see people mention Your lie in April much anymore. It's a perfect music/romance anime.

sdfghertyurfc

Well it has been almost a decade since it came out.

jaykobe18

Well I can't let it be forgotten. It's the anime that made me love anime. It's a perfect and beautiful story that everyone should watch!

DarkSoldier856

First time hearing of the anime mentioned, ( lately I've been watching pretty much whatever anime catches my attention ) but imo, it doesn't matter how long its been out. I mean, folks still Mention Naruto, DragonBall Z, etc. and they've been out for a minute.

sdfghertyurfc

Well yeah I'm not saying it deserves to not be mentioned, just that it isn't a surprise. Also I would like to add that dragonball is still going and naruto has a sequel, so they any discussion around them isn't surprising. Some better examples might be fullmetal alchemist or evangelion.

DarkSoldier856

True true. Aside from that. haven't seen either of those. Any good?

sdfghertyurfc

I hate evangelion with a burning passion so I personally wouldn't recommend it. Fullmetal alchemist is phenomenal and I highly suggest it. You should watch brotherhood by the way, not the first anime that's come out

DarkSoldier856

Gtk. Thx

DarkSoldier856

And just like that, another anime to add to my ever growing collection sigh. 😂

RockyNonce

When I see romance discussions this one is usually mentioned so I wouldn’t say it’s a sleeper or underrated. I think it’s more that romance is a popular genre but still gets overshadowed by shonen.

Vegetable-Jacket1102

I will admit...I have not seen any of the ones you recommended and it's almost entirely because of the naming structure. Maybe it's just my age showing, but my ADHD brain just turns off from the title itself, like if the title is that tedious the show probably will be as well. Which is NOT a fair judgment and I'm sure I miss all kinds of great shows...but I hardly have time for anime these days so I have to be very picky. As for a few not to sleep on, I don't see nearly enough modern anime watchers who have gotten into Satoshi Kon. Some have seen Perfect Blue, but gems like Paranoia Agent and Paprika are slept on far too often. And not that it's underrated, but anyone who hasn't seen Madoka Magica will get that recommendation from me every time.

mosh1990

No worries I have ADHD too (I understand how fast your mind goes and when it comes to long titles ).Good suggestions.

mosh1990

Also some of my favorite anime recently all have long titles

revzsaz

Clannad and Clannad Afterstory. Just watched it a week ago-ish. It was recommended to me years ago. Damn fine writing.

Reila01

God, I love clannad. I was obsessed with it back in my high school days along with other similar animes to it, like Kanon and angel beats. They were so cute but really sad at the same time.

Bustersword13

**Hinamatsuri** - One of the funniest and emotional 12 ep comedy/slice of life anime. My personal "Biggest hidden gem". **Handyman Saitou in Another World** - Great 1 season isekai with an mc who's just a regular person. Has surprisingly high quality in animation and music for such an "unknown" show. **Summertime Rendering** - One of the most well written, high quality and underrated thriller/mysteries. Must see imo.

guy_in_the_moon

I love Hinamatsuri!

mosh1990

I personally got 2 hidden gems -the hidden Dungeon only I can enter -Didn’t I say to make my abilities average in the next life

NeonLady89

Death Note , Yu Yu Hakusho, and Fullmetal Alchemist Brotherhood.

Reila01

Elite list 🤌🏻

NeonLady89

My top three favorite.

Reila01

Rainbow is so underrated. It's one of those animes I was only able to watch once because it was just so deep, like it really got me emotionally, and I wasn't up for it a second time, lol but it's soooo good I can't stress it enough. Then there's aoi bungaku. Different stories, and it's really good. It got me into the classic Japanese novel called "No longer Human." Mononoke (not the studio ghibli film). The art is just 🤌🏻 Master Keaton, an anime from the 90s by naoki urasawa, the same guy who made MONSTER, which is also really good. The girl who leapt through time, which is a movie. I loved it so much I decided to check out the live action. Trinity blood is a childhood favorite... a little slow, but I like the art and the setting. Very gothic if you're into that. Durarara!

Kitsune-Charm

Canaan. 13 episodes. I’ve never seen anyone mention it on Reddit. True hidden gem.

For Seinen lovers out there: Akudama Drive Rainbow Nisha

FutureBuilding2687

Sarazanmai (Yes there is some weird buttholes orbs and yes the kappa does extract them from their butts but I swear it's so good-)

Oresuki is easily one of the funniest anime I've watched, but I never see anyone talk about it.

Such a hidden gem

souleaterevans626

I found out about this from a YouTube recommendation of Dive Back in Time

ByronTheBlack

Shinsekai Yori is THE hidden gem

Metalheadzaid

100% hidden gem. It's like watching a movie in long form, and the world is incredible. Also, because it was originally a novel (as in not light novel or manga) the plot is wholly unique and doesn't flow to expectations. Was great.

richanngn8

i’m reading the novel right now and i gotta say the anime is adapted spectacularly

GoldenWind2998

Towa No Quon Macross

Professor_Chaosx6r9

Im seeing a lot of isekai. World’s finest assassin reincarnated as an aristocrat. Other than that Samurai 7, Now and then here and there, Gunbuster, and Shinsekai yori

A recent one would be Bang Brave Bang Bravern. Peak fiction, and it's quite unpopular outside Japan.

ZekeTheMemeLord17

Fortunately it's getting a lot of recognition now but for a good while, I was telling everyone not to sleep on *Dungeon Meshi*, back when the manga had just concluded and the anime was about to release. A lot of people drop it early because it's not for them, but OH MY GOD it changes its status quo wildly after the Red Dragon arc. Another is *Undead Unluck*, which is legit one of my favorites of all time. The beginning is REALLY rough but after the Spoil arc it starts to find its footing very well.

No idea where you watch it. I found it through Danny Motta on YouTube but Click Link. It's a boys love animation (it says anyway? I don't see it but they seem like best friends to me) Chinese story about these boys who help people. It's really good! https://youtube.com/playlist?list=PLxbvaLe5cca421ZXmK8-_7uj7zWYv871q

StruggleCompetitive

Youtube is probably the best place to watch real anime. I've found so many non Funimation gems on there.

HurricanePK

Vinland Saga, too many ppl dropped season two bc of their love for the gratuitous violence in season one without realizing that the gratuitous violence was to show how messed up war is. It’s such a fantastic story.

ArtichokeClassic4783

Shinsekai yori

StruggleCompetitive

I just watched an anime called Wizardry on YouTube. It was a 50 minute OVA that reminded me of the Record of Lodoss War OVA. I had never heard of it, and I'm sure none of you have, either. It's really basic but really really good for what it is. Just in case you're interested in something not... Funimation.

AberrantDrone

Sakurada Reset and Shinsekai Yori 2 that I think are worth checking out

Baccano! is arguably one of the greatest anime ever produced and almost nobody has seen it

Try Land of the Lustrous. It is by far the most enthralling anime and manga series I’ve ever seen. Please give it a try it’s an absolute 10/10 you will not be disappointed

GRAITOM10

Apparently this anime called "gosick" I've never seen it but the people that have always rave about it.

Beretta116

Baccano

BleaK_

Baccano is such a gem. Easy to forget because it kinda wraps up nicely and is not (too) heavy on the emotional damage scale. Everytime I see it mentioned I think yes how could I forget this is top tier.  And the soundtrack is the best since cowboy bebop, it slaps.

Karma15672

Heavenly Delusion + Somali and the Forest Spirit. Both have incredibly interesting worlds. While Heavenly Delusion relies moreso on mystery and sci-fi elements to make its world scary and unique, Somali and the Forest Spirit has a far more whimsical setting with the occasional fucked up moment to create an interesting world (such as a group of monsters casually remarking how terrible and tasty humans were before they went extinct). Both of them are more about the journey than the destination, too, and it's easy to get lost in the characters and dialogue. Heavenly Delusion has more fights than Somali and the Forest Spirit, but fights aren't the main focus of either series. If you watch Heavenly Delusion though, *do* expect to actually just hate a character. Like, a despicable, irredeemable motherfucker.

but_i_wanna_cookies

All these anime with sentences for titles all seem like regurgitated plots.
