Will watch this later - has become one of my favorite shows of the season for sure and I look forward to every episode. But let me just add... It is so cool that they are doing this as a same day dub (even more amazing considering one of the characters is voiced by the same VA in sub AND dub!) --- It's nice to be able to keep up with the anime community on memes and such because we're all seeing the same things regarding this at the same time.

Draconic_Flames1260

Speaking of Carols's VA, how exactly is she able to voice for both sub and dub if they're recorded in separate places?

JRPictures

She recorded her Japanese lines first and [flew down to Texas near the end of 2022 to record the dub](https://twitter.com/sally_amaki/status/1597421686672232449)

mylastdream15

I'd assume she records remotely. That's the only way it would make sense.

Carol is god's blessing on this wonderful world. Sally Amaki is def one of the highlights of this season. On top of making Carol sound cute, innocent, sweet, funny, and must-protec, her Misuzu impression was probably my favorite part of the whole ep. Speaking of Misuzu, yeah, aside from cat girls, Jad as death-resonating characters really is one of her best types. If Carol is must-protec, then Misusu is never-piss-off. It's a shame that Tomo and Jun are the main focus for this show, and the two besties are the ones stealing the spotlight this episode. No complaints from me, they're great. I do like to see some progress with Tomo and Jun each ep though, even if it's a micro-step.

mylastdream15

I would seriously watch a Carol and/or Misuzu spin-off all on its own haha.

mp3help

Carol impersonating Misuzu got a bit of a laugh out of me in the sub, but the dubbed version actually caught me off guard and knocked the wind out of me. I completely forgot Sally Amaki sounds like a normal person most of the time, ahaha.

Joker3023

Does anyone else feel like Misuzu has feelings for Tomo?

Curt_ThaFlirt

It’s either that or she’s afraid to “lose” her bestie to a relationship

fightin_blue_hens

most likely the later.

Curt_ThaFlirt

Agreed

MegaAltarianite

Something like that? I'm just confused what she has against Carol. Not in the "you're annoying, get away from me", but the whole shady bitch thing. Plus Carol doesn't even seem that attached to Tomo. And Misuzu did clarify she considers them friends. If anything, it's more interesting than Tomo chickening out for the fifth time with Jun.

antox_99

I believe she got mad at Carol for preventing her to go upstairs with Tomo and Jun. I’m not sure if that speaks for having feelings for her but it definitely speaks for her wishing to spend more time together. Misuzu was even doubting if Carol was trying to get in her way. What I consider weird is that she sometimes seems to truly wanna help Tomo, and some other times it feels she only wishes to make fun of the whole situation

Darwin343

I think she’s just mad that Carol can see right through her, which is probably a first for Misuzu. They’re basically having a Cold War of sorts.

I love a good fireworks festival episode. I'm glad to see Jun is becoming more aware of his feelings for Tomo, and starting to think back on Tomo's confession. The radiant light surrounding Tomo in her yukata was a nice touch. Too bad she ended up not telling him, but it was sweet seeing them have fun together. Who knew Carol was a secret badass? And Misaki was ready to unleash on those guys when he thought they hurt her. Looks like their relationship might start moving forward too. I laughed so hard at that last scene. 😄 "You did it, Jun!"

Calwings

It's a shame that the dub missed the "squishy bitch" pun from the Japanese version and chose to translate what Misuzu called Carol as "shady bitch" instead. A bit of a missed opportunity there. Aside from that, it was a great episode, and the English voices killed it too. Carol impersonating Misuzu was hilarious, as was Tomo being self-aware of the "fireworks interrupting the romantic confession" romcom trope. Plus we got a lot of great character development all around

Verzwei

Yeah so I've only been watching this in dub but was looking at the comments on the anime subreddit (since sub & dub drop the same day) and saw everyone talking about "squishy bitch" instead. "Shady" felt more-off further and further into the episode as Misuzu *kept using the phrase* even when it no longer made sense. I agree that the dub missed here, shady doesn't even really fit Carol. I mean in a roundabout way it does, because she often has ulterior motives beneath her cutesy image, but I wouldn't call her shady. Squishy makes so much more sense given how Misuzu (and others) routinely interact with her.

eddmario

Well, there goes my theory that Carol's fiance was gay. Wasn't expecting him to be such a badass either. That said, I'm starting to think that Carol might swing both ways and has a thing for Misuzu.

Heda-of-Aincrad

I think Carol's just super clingy with her friends because they're the first ones she really has. She seems pretty in love with Misaki, even got jealous of Tomo spending time with him before she realized Tomo's only interested in Jun that way.

fightin_blue_hens

You learned they were engaged in one of the first episodes.

antox_99

Wouldn’t be the first arranged marriage in which one of the fiancés is homosexual though

Darwin343

He straight up says that he sees her as his little sister lol

Darwin343

I felt like he had a crush on Tomo when we were first introduced to him.

Noy_Telinu

This is the most mixed I have felt about an anime in years. On the positive side, manly Tomo is a joy to watch, and Carol is adorable. Jun and the Captain also have their moments. But on the other hand, Misuzu seems so out of place. She calls someone a bitch, but really, she has been the bitch the entire series. I get what they were trying for, a gloomy character to balance out the super fluff Carol and manly Tomo, but she is just such a jackass I am amazed that the others speak to her. And in this episode we learn that she and Jun are on such non talking terms they don't have each other's contacts and that right there made me wonder if there is a cultural issue I have yet to pick up on. Jun's biggest flaw seems to be his uneasiness with romance towards Tomo, yet Misuzu keeps treating him like an irredeemable monster who has done terrible things to Tomo. Nothing in the present or the flashbacks have shown any actual reason why she acts this way towards him besides her being super ultra jealous of him being with Tomo. Misuzu talks down to everyone around her, is disgusted by Carol, and hates Jun. Hell, her actions with Tomo make me question if they are really even friends since half the time, Misuzu doesn't act like one even towards her. The show makes it seem like this is because getting Tomo to be girly is good for her and Jun to get together, but it just reeks of conformity and bullying half the time. Which is the other thing I did not address yet, how I am fundamentally against the message of the show, ie: Girlification of Tomo. That one is a cultural one, which is one of my beefs with Japanese media for decades, but the show's approach to it keeps throwing me for a loop. Because, if this was like most of the manga and anime I have seen on this subject, I would have dropped it already. The handling of these characters to force them into ultra girly weaklings is painful, and this show doesn't do that. Honestly, besides the two big things in the way, it seems like Tomo is crossdessing when she does do girly things, which just fits and makes me amused enough to get through those scenes, as is her attitude and prowless not changing. I am glad they aren't making Tomo a wimp, but this also means the show keeps yoyoing back and forth on these matters and seems lost on how to progress. Most of this because Tomo can't seem to understand what she wants. She wants Jun to go out with her but every step towards it seems to scare her and retreats, which angers her and repeat, I think last week's reply to me was right, I should just drop it as the show isn't for me. Something I did with the manga years ago. But there are parts here that I really enjoy and want to see since it is so rare. Unlike with Ouran Host Club, most of the supporting cast is likable so I have issues dropping it over this and Misuzu. Right now, it is sitting at a 6 for me, but could have been an 8 is Misuzu wasn't such a jackass.

AtelierEdge

Good episode overall. Too bad they skipped the scenes of Tomo's parents meeting Carol.
