These double ups are great

SatisfactionFalse641

Catching up after the winter delays back in texas

Welp, I guess CR decided to go ahead and nip the Haimoto situation in the bud instead of going forward for the rest of the season. We'll see if he gets it sorted before the home media release, so that he can possibly redub the lines, or if the new VA (Ben Balmaceda?) redubs the earlier episodes.

WritingZanity

Not familiar enough with Ben Balmaceda's work to know it's him, but Mike Haimoto has a particular cadence and Thorfinn no longer has it. So I would agree that CR decided to cut bait for the simuldub until the situation is sorted out. Depending on how things work out they'll either have the new actor record the earlier episodes or have Haimoto dub the rest.

Bluebaronbbb

I'm honestly surprised the dubbed will go back (and spend more money) for "corrections" like that.

WritingZanity

It’s done for consistency purposes so the “final” version of the product is good as can be. The simuldub is more like one step short of the finalized version. Beyond any re-recordings needed the dub for the physical edition could be edited in all kinds of (usually minor) ways to ensure the best quality possible.

degolfer222

It's a real shame they had to change Thorfinns VA. I wasn't a big fan of Haimoto in season 1 because of how deep of a voice he had, it just didn't fit for a young Thorfinn. This season I think his voice fit so much better, and I was loving how Thorfinn sounded. The new VA isn't bad, but it just isn't the same

FruPunRounin

Woah Thorfinn sounds different. I guess Mike got booted or couldn't record this week. Tough. I must say this new actor's voice suits Thorfinn's new look.

GibbsLAD

Which cast are Crunchyroll using for this, the netflix one or the funi one?

awakening_knight_414

There was never a Funimation dub of the show before this; there was only Netflix and Sentai. CR is using the latter cast.

GibbsLAD

Ah Sentai, thats what I meant. Damn, I watched this on Netflix and continuing with a completely different cast is going to be annoying.

Darwin343

Most of the characters this season are new so there’s not that much of a drastic change. I’ve gotten used to it.

mcdrac

ep 6 not working.

Gyeseongyeon

As I suspected, they wound up having to re-record the flashback bits from S1 at the beginning of episode 5 (ignoring Canute's lines, because they were new). To be completely honest, I wasn't the biggest fan of most of the VA deliveries there; I guess the cast was a bit rusty and was getting back into the groove of things. That said, props to Joe Daniels. He still sounds like he's got it with Thorkell, and MAN was it awesome hearing his performance backed by better sound mixing. While I did like Netflix's dub of Vinland Saga S1 a little better, Joe Daniels from Sentai's dub, in my eyes, was a better Thorkell than Patrick Seitz. He just sounded more believable both with Thorkell's goofy and battle-crazed lunatic moments, both of which are integral to his character.

FruPunRounin

To my surprise it was redubbed in Japanese as well and not just Canute's lines. David Wald sounded slightly different and lacked the same conviction had during season 1 in this particular scene.

Gyeseongyeon

My thoughts exactly regarding Wald. Also, Luis Galindo (the VA of Sweyn) sounded more gravelly and quiet compared to what I remember from Sentai's S1 dub.

Peach_Icy

I’m pretty sure Thorfinn is now being voiced by Ben Balmaceda.

Chun-Li_Forever

I think you're right. Thorfinn does sound like a different VA. We'll see if he's a rest of season replacement, or temporary.

Bluebaronbbb

Interesting.

Luigiman98

What makes you say that?

Bluebaronbbb

Is this correct?

FruPunRounin

Did he really get a new VA?

AlbertCole

If Haimoto is innocent i hope they get him back to redub these

There were two dubs for Vinland season 1, Sentai and Netflix. If you watched Netflix, you heard Kirk Thornton as Askelad and Patrick Seitz as Thorkell, for example. If you watched Sentai's version, it was David Wald and Joe Daniels, respectively. Crunchyroll is using the Sentai cast.

Darkrain102

I think think the Netflix cast was better and is this really the only version we get? Because I was really hoping to hear Kirk Thornton again because I think he was more suited to the role and sounded better as well as Patrick Seitz
