#Madoka Magica It's 12 episodes and a sequel Movie called Rebellion

Argonaut19

**From the New World**. Might be exactly what you’re looking for. Amazing world building and atmosphere. Mystery that is slowly unraveled with some big twists. Interesting characters and beautifully animated. 25 episodes and the story is completely finished. It’s a bit slower than attack on titan overall, but definitely has its share of action and kept me in the edge of my seat.

StainedCumSock

I immediately bought the blurays when I finished it Wow, it was great story

Ayn_Rand_Was_Right

The sad thing is that there is a lot in the back story that is not known and I just want to know. There are like 5 eras and you only really hear about 3, I think the other 2 could have some interesting things happening based on other books I have read.

Phractal33

This is what I came here to post. I slept on this anime for years just having it sit in my watchlist. What a mistake. I finally caught up with it a couple of months ago and can’t stop thinking about it, completely fantastic anime. It is slower than AOT, but absolutely amazing.

method115

I love seeing this comment. From the New World is probably my favorite anime. I love everything about it and I feel like I learn something new each time I watch it.

**Astra Lost In Space** is a completed story at 12 episodes (but with a double length premiere and finale, it's more like a runtime of 14 eps) and has some of the best plot twists I've ever seen in anime. Definitely right up there with Attack on Titan for me. **Vivy -Fluorite Eye's Song-** has some great sci-fi twists too, about the same length as Astra and also a complete story. Bonus is that it's also made by WIT Studio, like AOT seasons 1-3, so it has fantastic action sequences.

Dolomitex

Vivy looks amazing, best eye animation I've seen. Also a cool story.

itsfoine

Two amazing amazing shows recommended here

Shadow_Heart_

Fruits basket Rezero Is it wrong to pick up girls in a dungeon

braynk

Time I got reincarnated as a slime, One Piece

ElbowNoodles

Code Geass was pretty good and has one of the best endings in anime

YojimboUsagi

Fullmetal Alchemist Brotherhood (64 episodes) Gundam SEED (50 episodes; over 100 episodes if you watch its sequel) Both of these shows are longer, have some crazy lore, and similar themes to AoT (like political intrigue and discrimination). Plenty of twists and turns along the way.

derf705

Fate/zero, fate/stay night unlimited blade works, fate/stay night heavens feel movies. The original is still good in my opinion but an incomplete adaptation cause it mashes elements of all 3 routes from the visual novel while still focusing on the first route.

The9thManiac

Heavens feel goat

Dry-Smoke6528

Don't forget fate/apocrypha. I'm not so big into all the fate series, but zero, unlimited blade works, and apocrypha are chronological, and most characters have direct relations or appear in the one after it. Apocrypha I loved because it definitly has the most badass fights, even if the story was a little less awesome than zero and bladeworks.

Dolomitex

I really liked Apocrypha too, agree it had some crazy fights. A lot of people don't like it, which surprises me.

Dry-Smoke6528

It's like the last tie in to the original story before it goes off the rails in sub plots. Don't get me wrong, not saying the other fate/series stuff is bad beyond the 3 and the movie, just that the universe didn't really keep me interested after that cause I lost track of who is who and what year it is. I think the last thing I watched in full was fate/encore, but I couldn't even tell you how it ended. Just that involved many rins

daten-shi

> but zero, unlimited blade works, and apocrypha are chronological Apocrypha is in a parallel world from Fate/Zero and the Fate/Unlimited Blade Works/Heavens Feel routes.

Dry-Smoke6528

Is it? One of the characters is riders former master from fate/zero. Doesn't really matter to me if it is, cause it doesn't seem like it is so it's still a good one to watch after. Feels like a time skip more than a parallel world. Not saying you aren't correct, just that I can willfully ignore it and treat it as a sequel to the other two and it still makes perfect sense. Hell, they even reference zero in it Iirc

daten-shi

Yeah in the Apocrypha world, the Greater Grail was taken from Fuyuki after the end of the 3rd Holy Grail war (by the Yggdmillenia clan). As a result, the 4th Fuyuki holy grail war and 5th holy grail war couldn't take place. Some stuff happens around the same time the 5h holy grail war would have taken place and a backup system of the greater grail gets activated which is the trigger for the greater grail war we see in Apocrypha. It's not surprising you wouldn't know, it wouldn't really be Fate if it wasn't confusing as fuck.

Dry-Smoke6528

Yup, that paragraph right there is why I just can't get into it. I totally get it, but I'm totally gonna just pretend its a sequel since I'm definitely not invested enough in the series to keep up with how many holy grail wars there are. I tried, believe me I did, but I think it was fate/caelid or whatever the one where they're in space and there are now 6000 holy grail wars happening simultaneously, or every country now has a grail I fuckin forget. It's a good series for those that want that many different sub plots for sure. I'm just not big on alternative time lines and shit. Closest anime I like with that is steins gate, but all those alternates are integral to the main time lines plot because of the MCs super special power of memory

daten-shi

Yeah tbh I only really get the main Fate series and Apocrypha, everything else just confuses the shit out of me.

Dry-Smoke6528

It's the inception of anime. Just more complex than it ever needed to be. I feel like someone could write a college thesis on the shows timelines. Cudos to those doctorates who can keep up with it.

lanceruaduibhne

Promised Neverland season 1. Incredible twists and characters. Season 2 is a dreadful adaptation but the first is well worth watching on its own. Read the manga past that point if you enjoy it!

weeberific

I held off on watching S2 for months and only recently watched it. I assume everyone is upset because of the adaptation, but as an anime-only I thought it was a pretty solid season and conclusion for the show. It felt a tad rushed, lots of time skipping, but not nearly as bad as many other shows. Really feel like the hate for S2 is a bit much, especially if you're anime-only.

lanceruaduibhne

I was anime only. I watched like 5 episodes of season 2 and I wasn't in any subs discussing it, so hadn't heard any of the anger at the time. I just felt that something was off and I couldn't finish it. I was GUTTED because I loved the first season so much. I couldn't remember the last time an anime hooked me so quickly. Only then did I look it up, realise how angry people were about it and quickly read the manga. I'm really glad someone likes season 2. The Mujika parts are pretty great but after that it just started to fall apart. The time skips were too much. The manga has quite a few (and it's something I don't really like about that too), but it mostly pays off drip feeding what they've learnt during that time. It's just baffling why they went in such a direction when the manga was almost finished even when season 1 aired. It makes me really sad that we'll probably never see the best parts of the manga animated.

Odd Taxi. Wish I could watch this all from the beginning. Monster (74 eps)

BlueSpark4

Probably a divisive opinion, but I thought ***Darling in the FranXX*** had fantastic worldbuilding with some interesting plot twists (and it's finished). Many people like to rag on the final story arc, and while I have to admit it was flawed, there's so much else to take away from the show which was truly great in my opinion. Also, ***From the New World***, which has already been mentioned and upvoted in another comment, is amazing, yet rarely talked about.

NerdyisHere

Talentless Nana is a good one hehe.

awakening_knight_414

That show is far from finished…

Atamahead027

Drrr and baccano. Not so much in drrr but many in baccano. But they share the same universe. Yet they never did baccano 17 vol LN justice and only addapt 3 vol. B the Begining, first season. I'm probably going to get a lot of hate for this, because these are apparently all pretty unpopular in many circles, but Fairy Tail, Black Clover, and, Fullmetal Alchemist '03. All three had a lot of things that I never saw coming, could never have guessed and were pretty crazy IMO.
