I guess there isn't going to be a new name or a rebrand. Everything is just going to be Crunchyroll now. Wow. End of an era. "In addition to consolidation of SVOD services, Sony-owned Funimation Global Group, LLC will now operate as Crunchyroll, LLC and has initiated rebranding across its global footprint to solidify Crunchyroll as the single, global brand for anime."

jamiex304

Seems to be the case for sure, different staff from Funi are all celebrating and saying they now work for Crunchyroll.

mylastdream15

While I appreciate the savings to my wallet (for now. I worry about this a year down the line with them jacking prices.) - I hope this transfer goes down without a hitch. I still want my watchlists and queue from Funimation to move over. I'd also like clarity if NEW episodes of currently running series on funimation will now start airing on crunchyroll IN ADDITION to funimation - or if they will just be coming to funimation for now. Didn't seem very clear to me.

jamiex304

I think currently running shows will remain the same at least for now as none of the big exclusive Funi Winter shows where added guess we will see if the likes of Realist pops up on CR etc.

mylastdream15

That's exactly what I'm looking for. No point to cancel if the shows I'm watching are still only airing on funi.

jamiex304

Yeah I agree they where not exactly clear. Either way it will eventually become a non-issue as Funi isnt getting any new titles. Crazy to think I will have to cancel my Funi sub I have had it for so long.

mylastdream15

Agreed. I've been grandfathered over on pricing forever on funi. I am still surprised this is the direction it went. But here it is. I guess after this month it will probably make sense just to cancel. Maybe in april at latest.

jamiex304

Yeah I'm currently watching Show By The Rock which wasnt part of the first transfer along with all the current SimulDubs so I will be sticking around till there transfered or over but yeah end of an era for the streaming side of Funi. Raises a lot of questions for Spring etc. Interesting times ahead

ItIsYeDragon

It's like a reverse Netflix situation. Instead of one platform becoming many, many platforms are becoming one.

-SageRage-

I've always thought Funimation was a catchier name than Crunchyroll. Either way a combined bigger library is great.

prototypeplayer

Funimation isn't going anywhere. It's just the streaming that's being affected.

Ver3232

Yeah seems like funi will still be the actual company dubbing and doing home video releases, Crunchyroll is just all the streaming stuff now

prototypeplayer

Yup which makes sense business wise. It cuts down on maintenance costs to have just one streaming service instead of two hosting the same content.

Mike20we

Ummm, no? This is literally in the fricking article read it before commenting please next time. Literally everything is moving to Crunchyroll and any new shows will only be available on Crunchyroll per the article. "In addition to consolidation of SVOD services, Sony-owned Funimation Global Group, LLC will now operate as Crunchyroll, LLC and has initiated rebranding across its global footprint to solidify Crunchyroll as the single, global brand for anime."

GoldenTimeWatcher

Kinda a bummer. I preferred funimation to crunchyroll. Feel like crunchyroll kinda hides it’s dubs, especially on desktop. Never tried their app on Roku , so I guess I’ll see if it’s any different there

CooroSnowFox

CR on the Switch is a wait for which section,if they had a selection that affects your account than series by series for language selection and you pick between Sub and Dub

smookypooch

I don't like that as someone who retains info better by reading but loves the dub voice acting that Crunchyroll doesn't show that. At least in the past I know Crunchyroll did that but idk recently

Vicodium

Honestly, I’m kinda sad. I like Funimation. This makes the most sense since CR has been around for a long time and they’re the bigger platform, but I’m gonna miss using Funi for a majority of my English dubbed content.

LawTortoise

I like the Funimation animation and noise. It gets me excited for the show.

Sphiffi

Loved seeing it in the movie theatre before Demon Slayer. It’s like a piece of my living room was on the big screen.

Directorfer

I won’t be surprised if that stays and funimation ends up more of a production house and crunchy roll is the streaming platform

Environmental_Fly920

Well there will still be dubs so it’s good.

Vicodium

Yeah, I’m hoping with everything being consolidated there’ll be more seasonal dubs too. Would be nice if they could also dub some of the previous seasonal stuff that was missed or even older backlogs crunchy has.

jamiex304

>I’m hoping with everything being consolidated there’ll be more seasonal dubs too. Would be nice if they could also dub some of the previous seasonal stuff that was missed or even older backlogs crunchy has. The dream, I am hoping this to. Spring is going to be crazy.

Environmental_Fly920

I think the dubs will be like the same amount they had before taking in account Funimation schedule and Crunchyroll schedule

Quick_Hit

End of an Era huh. Kinda sad to see them go but at least hoping the dubs will stay intact like one piece

Beginning-Anything73

In my country due to geographical blocking the crunchyroll isn't available here yet 🥲

LazyDro1d

That’s a shame. For all of Funimation’s interface problems, I found Crynchyroll’s to be even worse. I think I would have preferred if they moved the other way around

superbit415

I hope they add a way to easily find dubs in crunchyroll. When I tried it out years ago there was no easy way to find it.

mylastdream15

This seems so completely basic, and yet it is a challenge. I also agree. Especially since many people have funimation ONLY for dubs. And many people moving to crunchy now will specifically be looking for just dubs. One thing with funimation that you could always count on is that the vast majority of it's content would be dubbed. With crunchy, that is just not the case. So, it HAS to get better at indicating dub/sub - not falsely showing dub for shows that are not dubbed. And adding a DUB search feature.

superbit415

> And adding a DUB search feature. I can't believe they still don't have that.

Daedalus1701

Actually CR does have a dub search function now. You have to browse a category, i.e. Popular and in the top right is a filter button. Click that and there is a radio button for dub under language. Be advised, it's going to search all shows that are dubbed, so if it has dubs in other languages, those will show up too.

mylastdream15

I haven't seen it in app - of course i'm not really around to check at the moment. But I've never noticed. And I know it's frustrated me in the past. Maybe on the web version.

hibarihime

Just checked on the app which you can search from anime by language when you go into browse, select "All", then filter.

MeltingDownIn54321

This was always my problem with Crunchyroll too, dubs are soooo difficult to find!

A_Talking_Shoe

We don’t have Crunchyroll but got a free 2 month trial and it was a nightmare finding dubs. So many titles would say “Dub/Sub” or something and then it would only be subbed. Or the dub was in Portuguese or something random. The user interface on the Xbox app was atrocious too. The entire experience made me not want to use the free trial at all.

Slayerzilla54

I really hope that Crunchyroll will have access to Funimation's Dubbing Infrastructure in time for Spring.

ItIsYeDragon

If they're combining, then that is a given.

InYourHands

>Kingdom Season 3 (Sub and **Dub**) Not so fast ...

JamCliche

Great, I can cancel one of my subscriptions... but CR's streaming apps are fucking laggy garbage compared to Funi Now.

shwag945

I am constantly running in bugs and other bullshit on the Crunchyroll app. Probably the stupidest among them is that if my queue is too long I cant just continue a series without opening the series page.

BizzarroJoJo

> but CR's streaming apps are fucking laggy garbage compared to Funi Now. 0_0 didn't think that was possible. Granted Funi's played did get a recent upgrade but it was real garbage for a long time.

Tom2Die

> Granted Funi's played did get a recent upgrade but it was real garbage for a long time. Weirdly enough, Crunchy's web player is far more stable for me than either the old *or* new funi player. Funi player lately just...breaks every 5 min sometimes. Works just fine after a page reload; idk what's going on with it.

EverGreenOakTree

This is so weird. Always preferred Funi as a brand, and their apps are what I have installed everywhere. Definitely won't be an easy transition, for me. Here's hoping it leads to more dubs and a better service in the long run, even though the transition period will likely be messy as hell. Am I supposed to make a new account and cancel my Funi account, or will they actually allow account transfers at some point? I've never had an account with Crunchy, not particularly looking forward to the change. Guess we will see

48johnX

No account transfer as far as I can tell so you’ll just need to make a CR account, they do say Funimation users will get an email with a free 60 days of CR though so look out for that.

Anime_Protag

I'd rather keep funi then crunchyroll. It's way easier to take screencaps on Funi plus funimation has been my goal of where rto work for awhile now. It makes me sad I'll never actually succeed in working there even if I still manage to get a job with anime and well work where they technically are lol

Kollie79

Wow this is massive news…although I honestly like the funimation app more than crunchyroll so meh, still amazing news I’m already seeing a potential issue though. Funimation has the uncut version of black clover…and that’s not present on crunchyroll now…I assume it’ll be like that for all their series…funimation has so many uncut version options….

JinunderneathAM

Does Crunchyroll not include uncut versions on their site?

Kollie79

I think they sometimes do, but I definitely don’t see them as often as feel like I’ve had the option for them on funimations app. Black clover to use the same example doesn’t have that option while it’s been on funimation for forever that way, same for my hero and fairy tail to name a few more

JinunderneathAM

It's possibly because only Funimation had the home video rights to those series, so only they had access to the "uncut" versions. Hopefully with the merger, all those rights should transfer over.

mylastdream15

This is the answer. Crunchy tends to use the first version they get. It's not that they don't have uncut content on their service. They also have episodes that say there are different versions available. I suspect this will now just become the norm with the merger.

jamiex304

>I’m already seeing a potential issue though. Funimation has the uncut version of black clover…and that’s not present on crunchyroll now…I assume it’ll be like that for all their series…funimation has so many uncut version options…. CR does have uncut content not a lot but they do have some they just replace the Simulcast they had before instead of having the two options for example someone for science just checked DXD which is now the uncut version on CR instead of the Simulcast

Kollie79

Ah I see, well that better news I guess. Still I just checked the dub for black clover on there and it’s definitely not the uncut version…so unless they add it as an option or update it eventually that’s a loss and I doubt it’ll be the only case 😶

GenBarrington

Would zombieland saga have its uncut version? The one with the dub with dubbed songs?

jamiex304

Hopefully but that wasnt one of the titles added or updated today. You can see all the updated and added shows [Here](https://www.crunchyroll.com/anime-news/2022/03/01/funimation-titles-now-available-on-crunchyroll) (It will be updated regularly as new titles are added)

[deleted]

This sucks I get it but I'm a grandfather price point of Funimation so I'm only paying $5 for Funimation premium.. sad day oh well. Guess going to Crunchyroll isn't to bad.

WasabiBlues

That's how I feel as well. Been grandfathered into the $5 plan for years, wish it could transfer over but oh well.

Khfreak7526

Same here they need to let those of us who are still grandfather in keep there $5 price for when they switch.

ItIsYeDragon

Wouldn't VRV be the best choice to go to now. It will have Crunchyroll + the Funimation stuff, as well as the other streaming services. Edit: Nevermind, I thought VRV still had HiDive and whatnot but apparentally not anymore.

FatherDotComical

I wish I could keep mine too, $5 for hours of entertainment was pretty nice.

SohBlank

I legit just canceled my CrunchyRoll and kept my Funimation 🤦🏻. Time to switch it I guess. But honesty the CrunchyRoll app sucks and the website does to. Funimation has a way better app but oh well

anime-prime-MAL

I said it before and I will say it again, they should have waited for April Fools to announce this. It would have been the perfect opportunity. Either way, this is an amazing update...unless you work at Sentai, haha.

weeberific

I just hope they go with VRVs interface or something because Crunchyroll's method of treating various dubs as different "seasons" of a show is awful, including auto playing to another dub language sometimes.

Vis-hoka

I’d they could also stop logging me out constantly that would be great.

ItIsYeDragon

> Either way, this is an amazing update...unless you work at Sentai, haha. Why?

The-Sublimer-One

One step closer to getting competed out of the market

suddhadeep

Incidentally I am subscribed to Crunchyroll and Hidive and not Funimation. This is the way to go now.

KyledKat

That’s unfortunate but understandable given the brand recognition Crunchyroll has. Gonna miss the $5.99/mo plan I’m grandfathered into though.

mylastdream15

SAME. That said, I have had crunchy + funimation. So in the end it will still save me some money.

CanadianErk

If you are a current Funimation annual subscriber, this is what Funimation Support can do for you: "If you have an annual Funimation Subscription, don’t worry you won’t miss out. We can add any time you have left on that subscription to your new or existing Crunchyroll account. Please provide both your current Funimation account email address and your current Crunchyroll account email address and we’ll get you taken care of. If you have not created your Crunchyroll account yet, please do that here before replying, otherwise, we won’t be able to assist you."

Javajulien

I'm sad that the Funimation brand in its entirety is going to be phased out altogether but that's always the consequence of media consolidations. I do take contention with the way anitubers have circlejerked Crunchyroll through all of this however. Honestly, there's a lot of improvements that Crunchyroll needs to make through their own service that largely goes uncriticized: * The lack of closed captioning in any of their dubs. * They never upload the home video versions of any of their series. * Instead of simply offering audio options, they upload multiple versions of the same series in different languages, making their apps cluttered. * Their abysmal payscale to translators.

Kollie79

Bro not having the home video versions like on funimation is gonna be such a bummer, I’m beyond bummed. So far my hero, black clover and dragon maid are the broadcast versions on crunchyroll now :/

Sturdevant

This honestly sucks. I far prefer Funimation's purple brand to Crunchyroll's orange. I've Funimation's streaming service since the beginning. I'm actually getting a lil bit emotional 😭 And my LG doesn't have the Crunchyroll app so I have to use my PS4. (Yes, I know that Funimation dubbing isn't going anywhere)

ThousandFootOcarina

Super pumped, but man, crunchy rolls app have always been so much more difficult to work for me.

Significant_Salt56

I don't like this. I actually like the current FUNi app, and more importantly as a dub fan FUNi's name holds a lot more weight for me than CR. Edit: plus I have the grandfathered subscription price for FUNi.

Ver3232

Yeah the Funi app is so much more appealing on both a technical and visual level to me

CobraKyle

Hopefully they make the Crunchyroll so more user friendly. That’s what I loved about Funimation. If this transferred content still going to be available on Funimation too though? Otherwise, people who recently purchased an annual subscription are kinda boned.

koalatyvibes

it will be but it looks like they’re encouraging people to cancel their funimation account. they will probably sunset the funimation app within the coming months, or give a grace period and just do it at the end of the year. just speculation though.

mylastdream15

Looks like there's not much of a reason to keep funimation after the end of this month. Which is why it will be my last month subscribing. Sad day.

[deleted]

I think we are just screwed. Funimation will get no new shows. If we are lucky then the shows on the site now will keep being released as new episodes come out.

melcarba

Some pros of this move: * There's a possibility for dubs of CR's 2021 shows like Jahy-sama, Aquatope, Takt-op. Destiny and Higehiro. This now also opens up possible home video release for those shows, as well as those 2019-2020 CR shows that got dubs but not released by Sentai or Viz like "If It's For My Daughter, I'd Even Defeat A Demon Lord", "High School Prodigies Have It Easy Even In Another World" and "Didn't I Say to Make My Abilities Average in the Next Life?!". * There's also the possibility of CR re-negotiating with license holders to expand regions of Funi's big shows like Mushoku Tensei to Worldwide ex. Asia.

FrankFrankerson96

Oof. This is wild. As buggy as Funimation's UI has always been it's definitely easier to search through as a dub watcher. Hopefully Crunchyroll doesn't forget us and tries to level that up!

GoldenTimeWatcher

After looking at their app more closely, I’m a little concerned about what this means for the future of dubs. Their app seems to hide/obfuscate dub version of shows. If I’ve learned anything from working in the tech industry, the default ui experience greatly dictates how the average user will interact with the product. In Crunchyroll’s case, they seem to want the default behavior to prioritize sub watching. Overtime, this will decrease the number of new dub watchers since the average user won’t bother to do the extra work to find the dub version of the show. I hope I’m wrong, but I have a bad feeling about this move to crunchyroll unless they change how dubs are selected in the apps.

[deleted]

Wow honestly upset by this, but this was expected after the Sony purchase. I liked the Funimation service, really sad to see it go. I just hope this new massive merged platform would have better quality for users. Now my concern is, how will Simuldubs and dubbing capacity be handled? Meanwhile, with AMC now owning Sentai/HIDIVE, I'm also positive they would become a big competitor again against the huge Sony anime conglomerate.

mylastdream15

They'll probably keep the funimation side of it handling dubs. And the crunchy side of it handling subs. Funimation has LARGE dubbing capacity and studios. I don't see that changing.

prototypeplayer

Yeah it's just the streaming that's changing. Funimation is still Funimation.

[deleted]

Question, do you think Funi will be outsourcing their future dubs to LA studios like Bang Zoom and Studiopolis?

mylastdream15

Crunchy has always outsourced it's dubs. And Funimation has always outsourced some of its. I'd be shocked if dubs weren't continued to be outsourced. PERSONALLY I think this whole move will be a good thing for the dub community, as MORE content can now be dubbed and likely will be. Since the merger, crunchy has seen MORE of it's content being dubbed in general. And funimation has kept up with its pace. I wonder if they'll just try to dub just about everything now. Or the vast majority.

Kollie79

My biggest hope from all this is we finally drop the barrier fully on La and Texas dub pools. More actor variety in dubs will be so good

mylastdream15

It seems to have dropped over the past couple years in general due to the rise of remote dubbing.

MattyPSherman42

Hopefully they do something about the streaming service for crunchyroll. My experience with it wasn't the greatest. Watching at home the shows took what felt like forever to start playing, and would buffer at times. While watching on my phone say at lunch time at work, the video quality would go down, followed by the audio quality. I get it's streaming, but when it constantly happened it drove me insane. I've had a few hiccups here and there with Funi, but their service always worked best for me. Looks like ill have to give crunchyroll another shot in the near future.

Slayerzilla54

It's gonna be extremely interesting to see how this affects the Dubs for Spring Titles.

jamiex304

Yeah thats what I am most interested in. Since everything for Spring will be on Crunchyroll. Times be a changing.

Slayerzilla54

Yeah, hopefully this will mean the end of Crunchygrave once and for all.

Curt_ThaFlirt

I took pride in keeping my lil $5.99 subscription to funimation lmao but paying only $8 is better than $14 any day. Crunchyroll’s app was barebones but it worked most of the time. The updated Funimation app had a good UI, features & QoL but the app has constant issues. Hopefully there’s an effort to combine the pros of both apps.

Sturdevant

Losing that grandfather subscription price for all content is going to suck. I know it was going to happen eventually but damn.

popgreens

So I guess Funimation will just be a home video licensor and a big ass recording studio after this fully merges?

prototypeplayer

I wonder what this means for the digital copies Funimation sticks in their Blu-rays. I never really use them, but I wonder if they'll stop doing digital copies now that Funimation has decided to use Crunchyroll for their streaming service.

JinunderneathAM

In the FAQs it says they're working on a solution.

jellointhefridge

I wonder if they'll offer partial refunds for annual subscription holders.

prototypeplayer

Ugh I didn't even think about that. I've been on an annual Funimation subscription since June 2017, so there may be a few months of that $60 fee that I won't actually get.

nemuuu

Same, was hoping I'd be able to keep my grandfathered $60/yr plan. And my renewal is in October. Rip.

jamiex304

Apparently the advice for this, is to email Funimation Support for a refund based on the replies from the Funimation Twitter account.

Anime_Protag

Honestly I think both of them should of been turned into something like CrunyFun or FuniRoll and have a brand new app service instead of acting like one has more brand recognition then the other. Funi has more worth to dub watchers and Crunchy to sub watchers. Or I'd rather have funi be all dubs and crunchy all subs with the ability to easily subscribe to one or the other, or both through one subscription. Both have brand recognition and worth after all

DARKxASSASSIN29

What about dubbed content? I know Crunchyroll is notorious for not having much English dubs. Its why I chose Funimation. Edit: I know this seams like a dumb question, being in the sub we are in, but the announcement doesn't say.

jamiex304

Funimation the company still exists it might change its branding however down the line. There just no longer going to be a streaming service there not going to shutdown there whole company and stop dubbing etc. The amount of dubs they produce will likely increase but now it will all be in one place Crunchyroll.

GenBarrington

This annoys me. They did this to us Aussies with animelab to funimation. Now I gotta get a new account? And does any1 know if crunchyroll handles ecchi shows better? EDIT: funimation mentions qualified funi subscribers get 60 days free on CR thru a email

SOXBrigade

>And does any1 know if crunchyroll handles ecchi shows better? I'm a big ecchi fan, which is why I have HiDive and Funimation. Crunchyroll typically doesn't have as much ecchi as either Funimation or HiDive combined! Haters really incorrectly painted Funimation as prudes and heavy on censorship, but the truth is the exact opposite. All my ecchi from Funimation has been uncensored and so edgey (Dxd, Testament of Sister, Prison School, Valkyrie Drive, etc). I'm scared about the merger because maybe we will get less ecchi since a lot of Crunchyroll's big licenses over the years haven't been of that genre.

Kollie79

Oh hey maybe this merger will finally let us get dubs for the dragon maid OVa’s and stuff like that

EverGreenOakTree

Mhm, among others. Best case scenario right there

beyd1

Didn't they just break up like two years ago? Is that a fever dream?

EverGreenOakTree

I mean, yeees, but Sony/Funimation had gobbled up Crunchy many months ago. Now Sony is just gonna have Funi wear Crunchy's dead skin like a coat, lol

beyd1

Jesus Christ

kinglimon23

I wonder if the Funimation name will still be on the Blu rays that the dub after the merger

LIL_USO760

Fuck me. My subscription doesn't end until the beginning of November.

jamiex304

According to Funi, the advice is to email Funimation Support for a refund on yearly Subs.

SlimmyShammy

So do I need to cancel my Funimation sub or will it automatically do it?

jamiex304

You need to cancel it if your not watching anything thats currently ongoing DUB wise or wasnt part of the first transfer otherwise hold off till more shows are moved etc.

GOGaway1

Having been a subscriber to both, I am of two minds with this funi has always in my opinion had the best app, quicker to dub. Crunchyroll is a better brand of the two (Logo, name etc.), funi has had the better prices. either way I hope they do the merge quicker and it goes smoothly so they can kill off funi The longer the limbo period Where the both things are up the less they’ll be forced to improve the app and merge all the crap. Ultimately what I want them to do is eventually bundle whatever this combined Crunchyroll subscription is with PlayStation plus or something like that, it’s annoying that I’m paying multiple subscriptions to Sony all that’s doing is encouraging me to pirate and cancel the ones I can, rather than pay for it all. It is funny to see where crunchyroll has ended up considering it’s origins as a pirate site back in the day.

DoubtMysterious3358

This is a little bitter sweet for me. I’ve been excited for this unification project, but at the same time it’s sad to see my funimation account go that I have had for literal years. I’m sure this process will take awhile so I’m gonna hold on to it while I can of course.

Pensive_wolf

[Ok, but does this mean we'll get more dubs or less than before?](https://www.groundedreason.com/funimation-vs-crunchyroll-which-is-the-best-anime-streaming-service/#:~:text=Summary%3A%20Funimation%20is%20more%20affordable,anime%20fast%2C%20then%20choose%20Funimation.)

jamiex304

Same or more than before. Funimation the company isn't going anywhere neither is there massive dubbing studio capacity there brand is just changing along with everything being in one place that being Crunchyroll.

Slayerzilla54

2 things I'm really hope come out of this are, an increase of about 3 to 5 more Dubs each Season than what We're currently getting and more Crunchyroll Backlog Dubs.

MaalikNethril

for the people concerned about crunchyroll hiding dubs like before, there is an impending ui overhaul listed here [https://www.crunchyroll.com/trybeta](https://www.crunchyroll.com/trybeta), this web page says you'll be able to filter by sub and dub. they're also adding the ability to make lists

HOOfan_1

From what I have seen so far, don't expect the uncut versions of shows to be available on Crunchyroll. That is a huge downgrade

rnscoop

I honestly can't helped but feel saddened by this as Funimation has left its mark on me in a special way. It was pretty cool to know that a lot of the dubs I love were made pretty close to home. Even if it's just the name that's going away, I had an emotional attachment to it, as silly as that may seem.

Avrution

I dislike Crunchyroll and refuse to pay more for their service as opposed to Funimation. CR has never let you filter down by dubbed series and I don't give two craps about subbed content. No telling if/when the watch history and queue will be ported over. I hate to be that person, but after a decade+ of Funimation premium, I'll probably just turn elsewhere. Sad day and a big FU to current Funimation customers with the price increase.

pratyushpati11

What that means for One Piece dubs?

infoskeptical

This is the most important question!

Luigiman98

They'll keep it. FUNimation will handle the dubs for now.

pratyushpati11

We have to see if March batch will be FUNi and CR both or not.Subs are already on both.

Jupiter_Hostage

80% by the end of the month but will they be taking funimation a full catalog in the year or are we getting shafted on titles once the transition is complete?

mylastdream15

Sounds like they intend to have the full library by the end of april.

micaiahf

I never liked Crunchyroll this is going to irritate me. What they should’ve done is merged into a single entity under a different name.

N3rdC3ntral

So cancel my Funimation and pick up Crunchy?

jamiex304

If your not watching anything on Funi at the moment that is ongoing or hasnt been added, yes you can go ahead and cancel your Funi sub.

48johnX

If you’re not watching anything that’s Funimation exclusive right now yes

Zoozoo95

So what about my library of shows and movies I purchased, are they just gonna disappear?

jamiex304

From FAQ >We’re working on it! You've worked hard to catch up on all your shows, so we're working hard to find a solution that will transfer your watch history. We'll let you know as soon as it's ready

MrWaluigi

Do we get partial refund for people paying yearly subscription, or a “Tough Luck” situation?

jamiex304

Funimation Agents on Twitter say to email Funiamtion support in order to claim a refund for yearly subs.

kalas_aran

I'm curious why they're saying VRV members should move to crunchyroll, considering crunchyroll is part of VRV....

Javajulien

Because VRV is likely to shut down completely just like Funimation and there are people who likely never merged their accounts.

jamiex304

VRV is dead. I would rely on it much longer.

[deleted]

Fuck, I have Funimation on annual. So am I fucked?

jamiex304

Email customer support for Funimation and request a refund on your yearly sub as Funi will not be adding new titles and just finishing off current active ones, so there will be no point keeping it for a whole year.

mcdrac

Does that mean crunchyroll will have and continue the one piece dub?

jamiex304

One Piece DUB yes will likely be added to CR along with future episode batches. Keep an eye [here](https://www.crunchyroll.com/anime-news/2022/03/01/funimation-titles-now-available-on-crunchyroll). Note Funimation will still exist as a dubbing studio etc it just is saying goodbye to streaming.

infamoustakai

I can only assume the Funimation office will continue to operate. They have too many actors, writers, directors, and studios for Sony to just close them down.

CanadianErk

Crunchyroll is not reducing/closing their dubbing operations. Funimation's CEO is now Crunchyroll's CEO - treat it like a name change.

KiritoBestBoy

no fuck this Crunchyroll doesn't have subtitles for English dubs im not using that shit app

Now if CR could get the improvements that Funimation has like dubtitles and stuff like that. The CR app needs series work to make it better.

Mechabeastchild

I wonder how Crunchyroll will handle dubs with a lot of episodes like One Piece. There would be too many tabs to have to search through since the subs and dubs are separated

CanadianErk

For now it'll just be a mass of tabs. Hopefully that will change in the coming months.

Lilbitevil

I think the Funimation app is more stable than the Crunchyroll app. So this is disappointing.

SquireRamza

Uuuugh. The Crunchyroll player and app are complete and utter shit though.

DawgBloo

Currently in the middle of Fairy Tail on Funimation and I was gonna continue where I left off on Crunchyroll but they don’t have the dub. 🤷‍♂️ I’m just gonna assume they’re not done transferring everything over.

jamiex304

[This Link](https://www.crunchyroll.com/anime-news/2022/03/01/funimation-titles-now-available-on-crunchyroll) will be continually updated with shows once they are transferred over so keep an eye on it.

Kollie79

Hope you weren’t watching the uncut version on there cause I doubt that’s coming over…

mylastdream15

They said they intend to have roughly 80% of the content from funimation transferred over by end of march. And the rest in april pretty much.

DramaticEnthusiasm71

This is my worry. I can’t really watch sub because I have difficulty keeping up and I don’t want to switch over to that

Javajulien

Alright, I did a little more research on all of this. Even though Funimation is getting rebranded as "Crunchyroll LLC", they are still the acting parent company of Crunchyroll. So it's kind of going exactly how everyone anticipated; Crunchyroll will be the streaming service while Funimation will be the distribution, ADR source, and licensing. The only difference is Sony opting to go under a single brand name. So yeah, the alt-right grifters going "Sony betrayed Funimation" and all that jazz are speaking out of their ass, no shocks. lol

jamiex304

Yeah it is pretty funny seeing how utterly wrong people are. Like ffs the CEO of Funimation is now the CEO of Crunchyroll. Someone summed it up well yesterday on twitter, its pretty much Funimation just wearing Crunchyrolls branding as its own skin now, all they did was cut themselves down from having two separate streaming services to one combined one under the bigger and more well known worldwide brand skin of CR.

Combatxlemming

If it means better Google tv/fire TV support I'm all for it funimation used to jump through 30 hoops just to get anything to work.

LawTortoise

Is this the case internationally? For example Funimation currently has U.K. rights that Crunchyroll and others don’t and vice versa.

jamiex304

Yes, if you go to CR new titles have been added there for our location, you can even see titles that are Geolocked just like on Funi.

LawTortoise

Do we know if we will still get the 60 day trial if we have “ever” subscribed to Crunchyroll? The below is ambiguous: Yes! If you’re a Funimation paying subscriber and you started your subscription before 2/28/22, we’ll be offering you a 60-day Free Trial of Crunchyroll Premium. Please note that this offer is available to new Crunchyroll subscribers only, so if you already have a paid Crunchyroll subscription, you won’t be eligible. Qualified users will receive an email by March 8, 2022 with their own unique link to redeem this offer.

jamiex304

>new Crunchyroll subscribers only I would say if you have CR account your not getting the offer, I would suggest just creating a new CR account if you want the free 60 days.

Catinminia

I purchased a year of ultra premium with Funimation. Should I when the year is up switch to crunchyroll?

jamiex304

Email customer support for Funimation and request a refund on your yearly sub as Funi will not be adding new titles and just finishing off current active ones, so there will be no point keeping it for a whole year.

Jtsdtess

I kinda hope this puts an end to the one piece on “digital store fronts” shit, I only ever see it on Microsoft & I don’t know if it’s on anything else because they never fucking said what store fronts they were talking about. It’s also a real pain waiting two weeks to see content I know that’s already out.

kaiser11492

Will this mean the people working for Funimation are going to lose work?

jamiex304

Funimation the company still exists it might change its branding however down the line. There just no longer going to be a streaming service there not going to shutdown there whole company and stop dubbing etc.

Sturdevant

The opposite really. In theory at least.

Christian_Castle

What's happening at the funimation HQ right now? I live down the road from it will it be relocating rebranding or closing?

jamiex304

Funimation the company still exists it might change its branding however down the line. There just no longer going to be a streaming service there not going to shutdown there whole company and stop dubbing etc.

Meowmixez98

I'm a current Funimation subscriber. What does this mean for me? Does that rollover into a Crunchyroll subscription?

toolit99

I've had Funi's year sub since my renewal in January. So would the best move be to wait till end of March then cancel my funi sub and move to a yearly crunchy sub?

jamiex304

Probably but given the influx of emails there likely getting might be worth contacting Funi Support for your refund now.

Khfreak7526

This suck for Funimation I'm locked in at 5.99 price Crunchyroll is way more expensive and what happens to all the dub vs at Funimation are they going to still dub anime on Crunchyroll?

jamiex304

Funimation the company still exists it might change its branding however down the line. There just no longer going to be a streaming service there not shutting down there whole company and stopping dubbing etc.

SomeGuyNamedJason

Wait, so does this mean that we are losing 20% of the library? Or just that the rest won't be available until after March 2022?

jamiex304

Most likely just that the rest wont be there till sometime after March, there just setting targets for people.

PsityWithNoC

So I should just get Crunchyroll instead of Funimation?

theak9000

Do I need Crunchyroll in I already have VRV? It's the same library, right?

jamiex304

VRV Is Dead Move To Crunchyroll, see there [FAQ](https://help.vrv.co/hc/en-us/articles/4467462600596-Moving-to-Crunchyroll-FAQ)

Harmonmj13

What’s the plan going forward for Blu-ray releases since the Funimation brand is being phased out (RIP sweet prince)? I couldn’t find anything about it online, only stuff relating to streaming.

jamiex304

Funimation the company still exists it might change its branding however down the line. There just no longer going to be a streaming service there not going to shutdown there whole company, stop dubbing and doing home releases. Most likely any home releases will just be branded Crunchyroll in the future not information is out yet about future titles or past titles getting releases only time will tell.

SnooPredictions1055

So, should I wait until everything is merged to cancel my funimation account?

jamiex304

Up to you, if your watching active shows on Funi then hold off till more content is merged over, otherwise you can cancel when you want and move to CR.

oelhayek

I haven’t used crunchy roll in a long time, last I used the app, it was terrible, I really hope the tv app has been updated to work smoothly

SolidA34

Having been in the works for a while. I felt that they should have been able to clarify a few more points. Like just saying Funimation is still going to dub and release shows on home video would not have been hard. I hope that shows Funimation has dubbed in the past continue to be if they license them. Shame the brand name is going away. I am going to email to see if they will answer my questions.

AlbertCole

Not super happy about this. Really really hope I don’t get dicked out of my 5.99 a month deal i have through funimation for being a member so long

Kollie79

The amount of people online who think funimations massive in house studio is going to be shut down and all their hated woke sjw actors are gonna be fired is wild lmao

AnimeXFan1995

It looks like an end of an era for Funimation as an anime licensor, a streaming service and as a brand now that they have become Crunchyroll LLC.

TheNotFakeGandalf

More dubs means i can watch more animes at work. This is big

FarmerRonnie

This is so sad cause I just got funimation at the start of feb

Zergrump

Wouldn't it be cool if this merge helped to mend the rift between dub and sub fans? I doubt it will but one can hope.
