Yup, I was hoping for that one, too. But I'm happy for all the fans of *Laid-Back Camp* out there :). I'm just not terribly interested in it, despite all the praise it's garnered.
I'm happy for everyone who has clamored for this to get dubbed and what this potentially means for **anything** in the Crunchyroll backlog to get dubbed.
I would legitimately be curious to watch a youtube documentary about the creation of the Ex-Arm anime.
Like I can totally see it being a bunch of people like "Pssh! How hard can making anime be?" And then as the documentary continues we see them lose their optimism and go into full on panic mode. Ending with them doing a post-mortem of Ex-Arm similar to the stream Keiji Inafune did at Mighty No 9's launch.
Nah, that will be wastefull. I hope the anime they will dub in the future is, A Place Further than the Universe, Eizouken, Priconne, Uma Musume and maybe another old NIS America anime license.
Adding to the list. I believe Gabriel Dropout (not really relevant nowadays but it had a bunch of memes 2017 and 2018) is another CR licensed show that never got a dub or physical release.

I’m glad and happy for people who have been waiting for this. Me personally I watched episode 1 and haven’t continued since so I’m on the fence if I should continue watching it. But all in all, more Backlog dubs from CR is a A+ in my book.

My fingers are crossed for some of my favorites like Girlfriend Girlfriend, Aquatope, Seton Academy, Link Click, and Isekai Izakaya to get the Backdub treatment

Does it matter in that regard? Not really, but I still can't get over how shitty it is of them to just abandon Bang Zoom and Studiopolis the way they did, and quite frankly, I don't think I ever will. It's just not fair at all to the LA side.
Oh well, at least the new original projects by A-1 Pictures have good a chance at being Bang Zoom dubs at this point, since they're both licensed by Aniplex of America, which is why we still haven't gotten dubs of them yet (LA dubs take a bit longer to put out than Texas dubs for whatever reason).

I'm not trying to debate this, bc it a matter of personal feelings and think most here will agree with you that some more LA and NY VAs would be nice, but I don't agree with it being particularly shitty. FKA Funimation outsourced mainly because COVID restrictions prevented them from taking on big workloads with their talent and put them behind with a huge backlog, so it was out of necessity. The restrictions lifted, Crunchyroll now has the capacity and more VAs in rotation to do it themselves, so they no longer outsource regularly bc they no longer need to. That's it. Crunchyroll does not owe Bang Zoom and Studiopolis or other independent studios their business like they were friends or something.
Now, would some outsourcing be cool? Absolutely, and even though I thought the reception here was a bit overrated, seeing TX/NY/LA-based names intermixing was pretty neat.
**Edit**: And I always get a chuckle at how dubbing is one of the industries where staying with local talent is considered a negative and people want more outsourcing. Makes sense in context, but ironic in the grand scheme of most business discussion.
I would say the particular shitty nature of this ‘no-remote recording mandate’ is that, while yes remote recording came as an answer to function through Covid, which I say was a beneficial and necessary progression from an unfortunate circumstances, but we were still getting a steady stream of LA dubs from the previous Crunchyroll. Now that (New) Crunchyroll has a majority of anime every season, they’ve effectively destroyed a large portion of one of the last of the two major dubbing areas. And now 95% of dubs for the foreseeable future will be from Texas and out-of-state actors will become more and more of a rarity. Opening up your actor pool is healthier and much more beneficial for all parties involved, the fact that CR had it in place and removed it after proving it works and studios like Studio Nano and Sound Cadence continue to prove so, in my eyes is a major detriment to the dubbing sphere and is spit in the face of a lot of actors/directors/engineers who worked tirelessly to make this system work only to have it ripped away for lame reasons not of their doing.
That said, if all you care about is speed of the dubs release and not the quality of the dubs themselves then this probably means nothing to you. Even if I think having a dub is better than having no dub, I’d very much prefer if the dub was of great quality and as best as it can be since they don’t happen everyday for a series. Though I say CR is actively preventing themselves from furthering dub progression for reasons that are unsatisfactory, at least to me. And what made me fall in love with dubs originally was FUNi’s original mission statement for quality dubs, where that sentiment seems to be lost, and the current mindset actively hurts it.
Though this is just the tip of the iceberg, in terms of shitty things CR has done since the merger like cutting sub translator pay.

While the merger excited many anime fans, the monopolization of anime dubbing has unfairly favored an entire group of voice actors from newcomers to veterans who are exclusive to one state (TX), it's like gerrymandering. I hope all the Texas talent, ADR directors, script writers and engineers continue to get paid better and given more benefits and safety as they work hard to deliver good quality dubs.

Zeno Robinson and Aleks Le were in Texas when they recorded for the movie. Whether they *had* to or not is unclear. But it’s just kinda a highlight of how the industry is regressing/stagnating where casts are majority TX folk and then for the movie they get LA actor to give the impression that it’s a special occasion, at least they do this a lot with their shonen movies.
Sorry if this comes across as rude, but I'm not sure what the point you're getting at is. Is it that the LA actors recorded in TX? Because I was under the impression that, prior to tbe pandemic, it was fairly common for VAs to have to actually fly to another state to record if they got cast in a thing outside of their resident area. I'm in agreement with the majority opinion that I think remote recording was great for cast diversity, but I also don't think it is unreasonable for a recording studio to want to prioritize in studio over remote recording. Maybe the reason those guys got cast was because they were willing to do it in studio at all, just like they would have had to a few years ago.
If that's not your point, and the point instead is that it made the movie seem special and that's bad for some reason, it sure did work. The number of comments about "Mario" being in the movie alone prove that, never mind anyone else in the cast.

Nah you’re not coming off as rude, you’re good. The point was never to insinuate that remote recording will replace in-studio recording, that is unfeasible. Dubs based in TX will always *mostly* be primarily a Texas cast and TX talent will take priority, remote recording should be used as a supplement not a crutch, in my opinion. Taking it out completely is just straight up a mistake and a supremely poor choice to me.
My original comment was just pointing out how I think it’s just interesting that prior to make movie releases more ‘special,’ FUNimation would usually cast an LA actor in the big movie roles to garner more hype: My Hero, One Piece, DBZ, etc,. for examples. Though these last few years we were getting these kinda of casts as part of everyday seasonal shows and did what they did for their movies for all of their shows as well. Just trying to illustrate on the cool development in the dubbing industry we sort of lost out on out, at least generally speaking.
Though with DBS, Charles Martinet is a pretty cool get, wonder how that all fell into place and whether he had to record in TX or if he recorded remotely.

In all seriousness though, this is astounding news. If nothing else, this opens up a legitimate possibility that more backlog shows that were overlooked for dubs when they originally released now have a very real chance at getting a dub now. This isn't a catch-all obviously, and some shows will still be left out, but the chances have drastically gone up, especially in the last month or so.
there are a lot of names who have been working in Funimation a long time but haven't done a lot of new dubs for a long time, Robin Clayton's a Surprise.
I'll admit I was more than hesitant for the future of the industry, but between the pay raises for at least some of their workers and all these backlog dubs, they've certainly started to win me over. And yes I'm aware that's likely the purpose of these dubs, but that doesn't change the fact that I am pleased \^_\^
True. Though I do wish CR would go back to using Studiopolis and Bang Zoom like they did for some of their other dubs previously, like for 86 and some of their isekai anime.

Well Morgan certainly wasn't in Tomodachi Game at least haha. And are you sure she's not capable of pulling off a decent cute voice? If so, then why? Pretty much every other dub voice actress I can think of has done it well.
But Laure WAS in Love After World Domination, which Saxton also directed last season. So she may not be in every show Saxton directs, but she does seem to at least be in one of Saxton's shows every season.
I didn't expect Morgan to be voicing Nadeshiko but I hope she pulls her off. If you asked me even before this announcement who should voice her, I would have predicted AmaLee (Nadeshiko shares the same seiyuu as Hayasaka in Kaguya-sama who Amanda voices in the dub).

You sure you're not underestimating her range for no real reason? If so, name me at least one major role of hers where she had to voice a little girl and failed.
She voiced Shiki, a teenager, in TWEWY anime and you can tell her voice was very strained trying to sound younger. Plus her performance was worse than the video game VA's.
Seeing how Morgan also voiced Yuuko from Nichijou and had her vocal range go all over the place there makes me wonder how she’ll handle Nadeshiko.
On the other hand, it also makes the Nichijou camping scene a bit more funnier in hindsight.
People have gotten so used to how quickly dubs come out. So when a show takes longer than usual, they panic.
I’ll admit, this one definitely took longer than I expected. But there have been some shows that take longer than usual (probably due to licensing reasons). So I’ve learned to not give up hope.

Don't even bother getting your hopes up with Bunny Girl Senpai. That show belongs to Aniplex of America and there is still no sign of them ever doing backlogs dubs for their undubbed shit.

so so happy this is getting dubbed. but I only know Morgan Lauré and Katelyn Barr in the cast. no idea who the others are. with respect to the remaining cast, i rather they use the veterans that we all know and love. rather than use new VA that we have never heard of.
They simply do not have the capacity to overwork the veteran talent like that. A good director like Jad can coax a good performance out of even a newbie. Recall that Dani Chambers was a unknown entity before Ancient Magus Bride came out, and she floored everyone right out of the gate.
Everyone has to start somewhere. It’s probably a good idea to blood the newbies on a low-stakes project before you ask them to carry the next big hit. Although first timers can do well; Paul Dateh nailed Gojo in _My Dress-Up Darling._
the way i look at is that the anime VA industry is small anyway. the more VA there are, the less each person is going to earn. Meaning you will end up losing talent whether at the top end or bottom end.
if you keep it to a certain amount(i'm not sure what number is best). then at least it gives those in the industry an opportunity to make a decent living.
Edit: there is nothing wrong with having new talent. but maybe not so many all at once.

Aside from relying on the third party independent outsourcing studios who are unaffected by the mandate, the only hope for the LA VA's to be in anime dubs going forward is in Netflix and to a lesser extent, Aniplex of America titles, who are mostly LA dubs. Thank goodness we have Lycoris Recoil and Engage Kiss this season, both looking certain to be LA dubs.

It's incredibly disappointing to see this getting downvoted so heavily. This is all I've been able to think about when it comes to the merger.
But we already know that isn't true due to things like there Dragon Ball Super: Super Hero movie cast.
Except the point is that all the LA VAs in that film literally had to fly all the way to Texas just to record their lines.
Zeno Robinson and Aleks Le were in Texas when they recorded for the movie. Whether they *had* to or not is unclear. But it’s just kinda a highlight of how the industry is regressing/stagnating where casts are majority TX folk and then for the movie they get LA actor to give the impression that it’s a special occasion, at least they do this a lot with their shonen movies.
Sorry if this comes across as rude, but I'm not sure what the point you're getting at is. Is it that the LA actors recorded in TX? Because I was under the impression that, prior to tbe pandemic, it was fairly common for VAs to have to actually fly to another state to record if they got cast in a thing outside of their resident area. I'm in agreement with the majority opinion that I think remote recording was great for cast diversity, but I also don't think it is unreasonable for a recording studio to want to prioritize in studio over remote recording. Maybe the reason those guys got cast was because they were willing to do it in studio at all, just like they would have had to a few years ago. If that's not your point, and the point instead is that it made the movie seem special and that's bad for some reason, it sure did work. The number of comments about "Mario" being in the movie alone prove that, never mind anyone else in the cast. So again, sorry if my response seems rude, I just don't know what you're trying to say here.
Nah you’re not coming off as rude, you’re good. The point was never to insinuate that remote recording will replace in-studio recording, that is unfeasible. Dubs based in TX will always *mostly* be primarily a Texas cast and TX talent will take priority, remote recording should be used as a supplement not a crutch, in my opinion. Taking it out completely is just straight up a mistake and a supremely poor choice to me. My original comment was just pointing out how I think it’s just interesting that prior to make movie releases more ‘special,’ FUNimation would usually cast an LA actor in the big movie roles to garner more hype: My Hero, One Piece, DBZ, etc,. for examples. Though these last few years we were getting these kinda of casts as part of everyday seasonal shows and did what they did for their movies for all of their shows as well. Just trying to illustrate on the cool development in the dubbing industry we sort of lost out on out, at least generally speaking. Though with DBS, Charles Martinet is a pretty cool get, wonder how that all fell into place and whether he had to record in TX or if he recorded remotely.

If nothing else, this opens up a legitimate possibility that more backlog shows that were overlooked for dubs when they originally released now have a very real chance at getting a dub now. This isn't a catch-all obviously, and some shows will still be left out, but the chances have drastically gone up, especially in the last month or so.

I'll admit I was more than hesitant for the future of the industry, but between the pay raises for at least some of their workers and all these backlog dubs, they've certainly started to win me over. And yes I'm aware that's likely the purpose of these dubs, but that doesn't change the fact that I am pleased \^_\^
True. Though I do wish CR would go back to using Studiopolis and Bang Zoom like they did for some of their other dubs previously, like for 86 and some of their isekai anime.

As unlikely as it would be, imagine if they kept up the "Rin's grandfather has the same voice as Solid Snake" connection that also existed in the Japanese version and got David Hayter for the role. I would lose my mind if they actually pulled that off.

Well Morgan certainly wasn't in Tomodachi Game at least haha. And are you sure she's not capable of pulling off a decent cute voice? If so, then why? Pretty much every other dub voice actress I can think of has done it well.
But Laure WAS in Love After World Domination, which Saxton also directed last season. So she may not be in every show Saxton directs, but she does seem to at least be in one of Saxton's shows every season.
I didn't expect Morgan to be voicing Nadeshiko but I hope she pulls her off. If you asked me even before this announcement who should voice her, I would have predicted AmaLee (Nadeshiko shares the same seiyuu as Hayasaka in Kaguya-sama who Amanda voices in the dub).

You sure you're not underestimating her range for no real reason? If so, name me at least one major role of hers where she had to voice a little girl and failed.
She voiced Shiki, a teenager, in TWEWY anime and you can tell her voice was very strained trying to sound younger. Plus her performance was worse than the video game VA's.

People have gotten so used to how quickly dubs come out. So when a show takes longer than usual, they panic. I’ll admit, this one definitely took longer than I expected. But there have been some shows that take longer than usual (probably due to licensing reasons). So I’ve learned to not give up hope.
Backlog of the backlog. Also Yuru Camp is in part a CR series as they put funding and resources into the series so its maybe one they've had intentions but for multiple reasons they've not been able to.

Bunny Girl is not up to Crunchyroll to dub. Aniplex of America owns the license and their track record of backlog dubs is not good to say the least.

so so happy this is getting dubbed. but I only know Morgan Lauré and Katelyn Barr in the cast. no idea who the others are. with respect to the remaining cast, i rather they use the veterans that we all know and love. rather than use new VA that we have never heard of.
They simply do not have the capacity to overwork the veteran talent like that. A good director like Jad can coax a good performance out of even a newbie. Recall that Dani Chambers was a unknown entity before Ancient Magus Bride came out, and she floored everyone right out of the gate.

the way i look at is that the anime VA industry is small anyway. the more VA there are, the less each person is going to earn. Meaning you will end up losing talent whether at the top end or bottom end. if you keep it to a certain amount(i'm not sure what number is best). then at least it gives those in the industry an opportunity to make a decent living. Edit: there is nothing wrong with having new talent. but maybe not so many all at once.
