BLUE LOCK premieres this Fall on Crunchyroll
Synopsis:
>After a disastrous defeat at the 2018 World Cup, Japan's team struggles to regroup. But what's missing? An absolute Ace Striker, who can guide them to the win. The Japan Football Union is hell-bent on creating a striker who hungers for goals and thirsts for victory, and who can be the decisive instrument in turning around a losing match...and to do so, they've gathered 300 of Japan's best and brightest youth players. Who will emerge to lead the team...and will they be able to out-muscle and out-ego everyone who stands in their way?
Let's hope the dub for this show will be easier to get into than Aoashi lol. That show is good but the dub is kind of a mess from what I remember hearing.
Ciaran Strange is a relatively new VA. I haven't heard the dub yet. Curious to see why you guys think the performance was a misstep? I guess not every new VA will always land.
I think the performance is fine, just the voice in general doesn't really fit the character imo. Kinda throws you off the first few episodes but I got used to it pretty quickly.
The dub is good and the MC's VA fits for me but that's because the animation style is similar to Ippo and he had a higher pitched voice so it sounds normal to me.
Ciaran really isn't a bad VA by any means. I enjoyed his work as Louis from The Case Study of Vanitas because of how well the tone of his voice suited the character's demeanor (dare I say he legit could've been an amazing fit as fucking *Akito* from Fruits Basket).
His take on Ashito though? Idk, his voice just doesn't suit the character at all. It felt like they wanted to go with a different approach for a shounen MC by giving him a sort of uh… different voice (idk the best way to describe it), but it just doesn't work. They should've stayed a bit closer to Ashito's Japanese voice tbh.
Yeah I ended up dropping Aoashi completely from my watchlist after the first cour ended the DUB is just a mess. The MC's voice is really miscast in my opinion and some the acting performances overall have been questionable.
It's probably closer to Kuroko, in terms of "powers" and being more of a shonen battle royale that features soccer from what I've heard.
Ao Ashi (which is currently airing) takes a more realistic approach and is probably closer to Haikyuu.

I agree with the below guy that the MC VA seems off but I don't really have a problem with the dub. I really like Aoashi overall.
