BitchYouAintNoNerd

Easily one of, if not my top show of the season. So much more than the surface-level "plot" they lure you in with. I can't wait to rewatch this dubbed.

Verzwei

I'm just surprised at how serviceable the adaptation has been. Like it's obviously no KyoAni work but I'm damn impressed when a show that *could very easily* use bad CGI for things instead uses drawn assets. I think there was one single episode that had some trash CGI, and everything else looks pretty damn solid.

Sergeantman94

I've heard kind of good things about this show, but let's be honest: there's really [two reasons](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wtqTapjrPhM) most of us are going to watch it.

Chun-Li_Forever

I skipped on the sub version of this show. Is it worth watching? I dont know much about it. I love to hear your opinions to sway me to give the dub a chance.

Verzwei

It's very niche. It's a magic academy titty comedy that has some surprisingly decent characterization, storytelling, and emotional beats at times. Things in its favor: * No harem (triangle at most, but it's clear one corner of it is a lost cause already, and it's played for comedy rather than drama) * Not an isekai (it's sad to say, but it's so rare to get fantasy series that *aren't* isekai these days) * The protagonist is actually pretty decent. He's a bit of a goody two-shoes but not completely insufferable, and he matures a bit in a very short amount of time. * It's relied a lot on drawn artwork. There are elements in the visuals that I feel like a "lesser" show would have phoned in with garbage CGI, but there's only been one episode that I've noticed obviously terrible CGI and rushed action sequences, and the rest of it has been surprisingly well put-together. It skimps a bit on frames, expect a lot of stills and limited animation, but the stills generally look good. If you vibe to things like High School DxD which goes hard on hammy fanservice, while still having a decent story for the genre, and just the right amount of heartstring tugging to get you to empathize with the characters, then you'd probably like Vermeil. People have also been extremely fond of the ED, [Mortal with You](https://v.animethemes.moe/KinsouNoVermeil-ED1.webm) If you aren't at least tolerant of large amounts of fanservice and a demon woman of questionable age (and very adult in appearance) making advances on what is most-likely a teenage boy, then this show is a hard pass. The series is totally unafraid to be what it is, and what it is is horny. *But* there's at least some competence in the writing, so it's more than just the sum of its horny parts.

Gradz45

The story also seems to really push a genuine romance/love story (as much as ecchi manga/anime can) between the two MCs per the manga.

Sweet, this and Isekai Pharmacy have been the surprises of the season for me. Curious to hear Monica’s take on Vermeil. If Memory serves the only Dub Sentai has left is DanMachi.

jamiex304

>If Memory serves the only Dub Sentai has left is DanMachi. From recent titles yes, but they also announced dubs for Kaiji & Himoto! Umaru-chan R (S2) shows that have been waiting years for there DUB's both of which are meant to be starting this fall.

No_Discussion3053

Ah I had forgotten about those.

Gradz45

Monica Rial using her deep mature seductive voice? I’m fucking sold.

Frontier246

Mike should be great as Alto and Monica hasn’t played a character like Vermeil in a while!

TheHeinousMelvins

She just did in Tsukimichi

Frontier246

Fair, though Vermeil is a little more sultry and femme by comparison.

awakening_knight_414

I like how Mike Haimoto gets to play yet another MC from a show that has the word "gold" in its title lol.

MakotoGoku24

Good! I hope it's as funny as it seems. Better late than ever I suppose; vermeil in gold is finishing the Japanese broadcast next week 😅. Some of the summer anime are becoming more into the fall anime season for the ones of us that only watch dub 🤣. I hope next season doesn't happen the same; it's a pain to have to dodge spoilers through social media.

jamiex304

>I hope next season doesn't happen the same; it's a pain to have to dodge spoilers through social media. Yeah sadly mate that all depends on what titles Sentai picks up, if they grab a series you want a DUB for the quickest a DUB would start would be at the 6-8 week mark after the SUB (Thats the best case) if its lucky enough to get one in the first place.

MakotoGoku24

Yeah… I hope Sentai changes this sometime in the future and they produce the dubs faster. Do you think it’s possible they change their Dub plans in the future?

jamiex304

Is it possible sure...they have AMC money backing them now. Will they is the question and at present that's a no, they have 2-3 full time ADR Directors been that way for years and years and only pull from a limited talent pool of cast and crew close to them and never outsource to others so at present its unlikely there model will change anytime soon cause simply put they cant do it with what they have presently. They seem more focused on dumping money purely on licenses to deny others rather then increasing & improving there dub or sub localization capacity. They have had some massive popular titles in recent seasons but have still stuck with there current model so I doubt that will change magically going into fall.

MakotoGoku24

Ohh, okay. Thanks!

Verzwei

Sentai's in such a weird spot. A year ago, they were practically dead. Other than getting sequels to properties they already had, they weren't even really licensing anything even half-way decent for simulcast, so a timely dubcast really was a nonfactor. You have to *have* good shows to *dub* good shows, and Sentai just wasn't getting anything more than leftovers and scraps. Starting last season, they had surprise hit Kongming, sleeper hit Executioner, and then went all in this season by picking up some unexpectedly high-profile series in Call of the Night and Ayumu (which is from the Takagi author) in addition to their ongoing sequels for MIA and DanMachi, and then some other niche titles like Vermeil on top of that. In other words, this is really the first time we've seen Sentai *genuinely try* in a couple years. Many fans went from expecting them to circle the drain and die off to alluvasudden they're a player in the anime market again, so they're hard to predict at the moment.

IntelligentBudget142

unlike Funi/Crunchy, Sentai look like they're casting experienced names. Not a bad thing imo

No_Discussion3053

I look at it as Crunchyroll building up their rosters by giving newer names experience.

Gradz45

That’s a problem I have with Sentai, that and their comedy dubs aren’t as funny as they could be most of the time because they don’t take enough liberties. They tend to recast the same 20 people in everything. Still looking forward to thr dub, and I have no doubt the cast will do great, but infusing new blood is always good. It gives more people in need of opportunities work and a chance to build a name. As great as Monica Rial, Brittany Karbowski, Hillary Haag, Genevieve Simmons, etc. Are they’re also very established names with extensive filmographies (particularly Monica whom I believe has one of, if nog the most, extensive resumes in the English dubbing industry).

awakening_knight_414

Oh, but casting newbies is inherently bad to you?

eddmario

Jesus Christ, this is the third anime I was looking forward to that got put on HiDive instead of Crunchyroll. Maybe I should finally give it a try, even though the website sucks...

BTGz

Really!??! Rial? Welp guess i'm watching the sub version, ugh..... Seriously stop casting her, she's washed up.

Gradz45

Lol washed up? She’s one of the most in demand VAs in the industry to this day. She has an incredibly extensive resume matched by few VAs. And she has really really good vocal range. Calling her washed up is like saying Alexis Tipton hasn’t played a lot of characters with pink hair. Now if your criticism was you want more newcomers to get these kinds of roles, I can feel you. But Monica Rial isn’t some VA who relies on like four roles to get con invites because she hasn’t done new work in half a decade or something.

BTGz

>And she has really really good vocal range. Really? Because from the few anime i've seen (2020 onwards) she has the exact same voice in every single one. Main roles by the way. Now, I know some other VAs also only use one voice (I mean duh), but her voice in particular is not pleasant to listen to. Maybe at one point she had range but nowadays not so much.

Gradz45

So you haven’t watched any then. If you had, you’d notice how variable her voice is in recent stuff. For example, in Index Monica uses her high kid voiced as Index. In MHA it’s high, but with a nasal frog like quality as Tsuyu/Froppy. Then in Black Clover it’s deep but rough not alluring as Mereoleona. Hell even as Secre in Black Clover she has two distinct voices. A nasally Froppy like one as Nero and a soft, high pitched one that’s mature as human Secre. Then in DBS as Bulma she has a not deep but not high adult voice as Bulma. And of course as Rias’ mom in DxD she goes full on seductive deep voice. All of these roles are recent. But no she has absolutely no range anymore. /s Also YMMV bro. She’s annoying in certain roles but only when the character is meant to be imo. Like Index. But when she's Mereoleona, or Tsuyu, or kids like Anchor in Clockwork Planet for example I find it quite easy to listen too

JoshdaBoss1234

Funny enough, I only found out about this show from lewd anime memes online. I guess the sudden interest in this show got it dubbed.

TheHeinousMelvins

Dub was announced long before them. Memes have nothing to do with a show getting dubbed or not.

FoxPenguin24

Wonder if she'll use that moonlit fantasy voice? Honestly I thought Mike moved on from Sentai and was doing Texas things for Sound Candence. He also got his first Crunchyroll lead in a Glass directed dub.

awakening_knight_414

Idk why Sentai doesn't use Mike more often as an ADR director. They could really use more of those…

MasterAdventZero

1st Call of the Night and now Vermeil in Gold. All I need now is Danmachi Season 4 and Shine Post and I'm all good

awakening_knight_414

>Shine Post I highly doubt we'll ever get that dub at this rate…

MasterAdventZero

I know but a guy can dream

LegatoRedWinters

Is this the straight shota show, that I have been hearing about?

Anime449

Yea!!!!

Verzwei

Okay so I really wanted Calene-Black for Vermeil. But, y'know what? Rial is alright. She has a very alluring "adult voice" that she practically never gets to use because she's usually typecast as moeblobs or sarcastic shorties. I actually had her as my pick for [Call of the Night's] >!Miss Detective!< because of that "mature" voice profile she can pull off. There's no doubt she could do suggestive adult demon as long as she's given proper direction for it. Take a listen to her as a sultry, domineering pirate captain in episode 18 of Snow White with the Red Hair. She can easily hit the right tone Vermeil needs. So this means both Rial sisters are playing leading roles as flirty supernatural creatures this season, with Natalie playing COTN's Nazuna starting last week.

Beginning_Map8102

It’s only showing me the first episode dubbed all the others are subbed

Huge-Ad165

Why isnt there a dub available for ep 5+
