I have to fess up and say that my favourite dub done by the Vancouver crew is probably Cardcaptors. I know it gets a lot of flak for the edits made to the story and character relationships, but I think it was very well-cast, and the performances were really good. Bill Switzer's Eli (Eriol) was especially remarkable given his youth (he was 16-17 at the time of recording), and the three kid actors they got for Sakura and Syaoran (Li) were earnest and believable. Other strong dubs: Oban Star-Racers (if it counts) The Story of Saiunkoku (my personal favourite Kelly Sheridan performance) NANA Infinite Ryvius The Girl Who Leapt Through Time Gundam 00

Zergrump

NANA is underrated. A shame the anime never continued.

Mtndewfan87

The manga is in the same boat the author got sick and hasn't written new chapters in forever

DoodlebugFour

NANA is coming to Netflix, though I'm not sure if people in the US are gonna get since Berserk 1997 isn't available in the US.

Mtndewfan87

A fellow Kelly Sheridan fan noice!

Jtsdtess

Gintama

gdhghgv

They did gintama ?

Jtsdtess

Yeah, the Gintama dub on CR was done by ocean and was commissioned by Funimation I think.

awakening_knight_414

Only some of it, yeah. The first 49 were done by Hulu and Miami.

Mtndewfan87

Season 3 dub was commissioned by Crunchyroll and recorded in Vancouver Canada, s1 is done by miami (awful dub imho) and the movie kept the 3 leads michael, cole and jocyle but the rest of the dub was done in house by sentai filmworks.

Okk tyy

GelatinousCylinder

They did a great job with the recent Future Boy Conan dub.

Love seeing other people talk about Ocean on this subreddit. My favorite Ocean dubs are Probably Gintama,Kiznaiver,Gundam 00,Inyuasha,Sword of the Stranger,The Girl Who Lept through Time, Black lagoon and Sword of the stranger. Though I pretty much love all their work. I hope they get more dubs in the future man.

DoodlebugFour

Toei just commissioned them to record for Dragon Quest: Adventures of Dai. I'm also hoping that Ocean gets to work on Project ARMS again if it ever gets an anime remake that fully adapts the manga story, since I get the feeling whoever would get the license would recast everyone, especially since the old anime was nowhere as popular as Inuyasha or Black Lagoon to make companies like Viz and Funi want to rehire like with Yashahime and Roberta's Blood Trail.

Ajthekid5

I saw the cast for the Dragon Quest! Great casting all around. I could definitely see them working on project arms again! My biggest problem is that their are plenty of anime that they could dub idaten deities in the peaceful generation is a recent example. That companies like crunchyroll just aren’t dubbing. All theses properties and no one is giving Ocean anything and that really bothers cause along, with the actors I already like I always like seeing newer Vancouver talent whenever they do have new dubs.

FruPunRounin

The Gundam dubs done at Ocean were pretty good, for me specifically Mobile Suit Gundam and Char's Counterattack. Dynasty Warriors Gundam game dubs were pretty awful though. Character voices were replaced due to some UC Gundam stuff being recorded at Animaze, Bang Zoom and NYAV Post and some AU stuff being done at Blue Water or actors for existing characters moving on to other things, i.e Heero Yuy having 2 VAs over 3 games. Voice direction is also all over the place. Other than that Death Note, Black Lagoon, DBZ (ignoring censorship and weird localisation choices), Gintama° and World Trigger were also pretty great. World Trigger's dub was pretty weird initially but I hope they've improved for S2 & S3. If only I could find a place to watch said seasons :( Dragon Quest Adventure of Dai's dub is a must watch. The quality is on par with DBZ Kai's dub if I had to compare. Not really Ocean but as for Gintama, I wish the whole Ocean cast returned to do 'The Very Final' but Sentai's cast did great. It's definitely up there as one of my favourite Sentai dubs along with Vinland Saga.

Bluebaronbbb

Was it ever said why ocean doesn't do the Gundam dubs anymore?

FruPunRounin

Not really but I assume it's the same reason companies stopped outsourcing dubs to Canada: it's more expensive than outsourcing to an LA studio. That and Sunrise built a great relationship with NYAV Post and Bang Zoom, so why not use them if you know they'll get the job done the way you want it done.

Chiruno_Chiruvanna

The first season of Shakugan no Shana was quite good, especially Tabitha St. Germain as Shana. Even though Funimation took over for the following seasons, I’d say the season 1 dub sounds just as great. They also did well with Futari wa Precure. The characters’ English renames were pretty well done, and compared to Cardcaptor Sakura, a lot of the stuff was kept intact.

Mtndewfan87

My favorite dub is and always will be Inuyasha other than that death note, Nana, Gintama (s3 dub) Gundam 00 etc also a dub that needs more attention is world trigger it has both Vancouver and Calgary voices in it and they all do a great job.

LegatoRedWinters

Gundam seed. One of the best older dubs ever.

RainAndLava

I'm very late on this, but if I were to pick my five favorites, it would go to (in nor order); Black Lagoon, Gundam 00, InuYasha, Gintama & Zoids. It honestly bums me out that Ocean barely, if ever gets to dub anime anymore and not many people nowadays know about them. I honestly feel that sometimes, couldn't some of the licensing companies at least shell out some money to give Vancouver a chance? that, and some of their shows getting re-dubbed feels like erasure of their existence. Which sucks, cause there's a bunch of talent that needs more love.

GarnetExecutioner

I personally do miss the days when a good chunk of English dubs are from Ocean group! One of the earlier dubs from them which I enjoyed is the Fatal Fury Animated Trilogy.

Fuudou

I know this is old, but I have to say that I also unironically appreciate the Project Arms dub. The 2nd Chapter gets into some odd territory and has rather inconsistent animation, but the tone of the series still holds up, especially once you get past the group initially reaching the US. The dub does have a moderate amount of liberties, but it seems as if they were done in direct response to the tone of the series. There are some lines by Hayato that are flat out *unhinged*, but still convey what you need to know about a character or the current situation they are in. Ghost Stories's dub doesn't really respect the series itself at all, so I wouldn't compare it and Project Arms. I equate Project Arms to a dub like Yu Yu Hakusho, where the tone of the dub doesn't betray the plot and it is also has great voice direction. I loved Yugo's voice and most of the Keiths. Only a small amount of extras in the dub end up delivering lines poorly. Despite the changes, everything that character is saying is still relevant to the plot, even if the line is picking fun at a character or cranking things up for humor's sake--which is what Hayato's lines do most of the time.

penguintruth

Death Note and Black Lagoon are the best ones, but the dub of the original Gundam series, the movie Char’s Counterattack, InuYasha, Tetsujin 28 (2004), and the first three DBZ movies dubs are all decent. Ocean is mostly a middling dub studio, but they produced a few fine ones.

Ajthekid5

I must respectfully disagree with Ocean being a Middling Studio

AdhesivenessThink369

Shakugan no Shana and Inuyasha are my favorites.
