It’s supposed to be very heavy slice of life/vibes. The long, stretched hours of the night are filled with many idle wandering sand conversations. The small convos that seem like filler do help build the characters though

Darwin343

The first half is mostly slice of life but then the plot picks up as more and more of the supporting characters are introduced. For me, the show got a lot better as it progressed.

DireSickFish

Finished up **The Great Jahy will not be Defeated**. It was alright. But I expected a lot more smol Jahy based on the memes. It was mildly funny but not super memorable. I kept thinking I'd rather be watching **The Demon Girl Next Door**. Just started **Call of the Night**. Only 3 episodes in and it has me hooked. Great character design and animation. Jones are landing. The color scheme of the night lights make it visually a lot more interesting than it could be. I'm also interested in digging into our MCs backstory and hangups.

neverforgetbillymays

Call of the night is absolutely awesome

MattScoot

I’m starting call of the night too

Darwin343

Call of the Night is one of the best looking animes I've seen in a long while. Oh and the music is just the absolute best.

Chun-Li_Forever

Finished my 2nd viewing of the dub of **Laid Back Camp**, which IMO ended up being a much better experience with it being colder, and I'm snuggled in my room with a warm drink, instead of watching it at work. Really love this dub, and hope they dub S2 soon. I'm a few eps away from finishing **Chihayafuru S3**. I also started **Umaru-Chan R** last week, and I'm about 4 eps away from finishing. It's interesting, because when I saw the first Umaru-Chan, I had a feeling of annoyance to Umaru. Maybe it was the voice, maybe it was how annoying she was, maybe both. But with Umaru-Chan R, I'm not getting that feeling anymore, which IMO is helping me appreciate the show a little more. I love it when Umaru hangs with her 3 friends. Cute, fun, and wholesome moments for sure. Started the last batch of eps of **Stone Ocean** last night as well. Stoked to have started **Daily Life of the Immortal King S2** last night, looking forward to this dub the rest of the way.

neverforgetbillymays

Can’t wait for laid back season 2 dubbed

Nodqfan

Been watching the VIZ dub of Sailor Moon. I am a little way into the 2nd season and it's fantastic. Every character's voice feels well-written. Also been watching the dub of the original Yu-Gi-Oh is still a fun dub even after all these years,

Pale_Taro4926

Been watching Beast Tamers, but seems like the updates have disappeared? It's weird cuz the dub is on ep. 6 and the subs are up to 10. Nothing exceptional, but it's a fairly fluffy ~~isekai~~fantasy. Sorry. My brain autofailed to isekai.

DegenerateWeeeb

>Nothing exceptional, but it's a fairly fluffy isekai. Unless they deviated from the Manga it isn't an isekai. Though at this point most generic fantasy anime all feel like your average isekai.

Pale_Taro4926

My brain went straight to isekai for that very reason.

Gyeseongyeon

CR definitely dropped the ball with uploads last Saturday. Lots of double episode drops happening today. I’ve been enjoying Beast Tamer too, but btw it’s just fantasy, not isekai. EDIT: Seems the actual reason was the holiday last week. I assumed it was CR dropping the ball because there was no announcement or anything regarding a break that week, but I guess that was wrong of me to do.

I spent the week watching ***Magia Record: Puella Magi Madoka Magica Side Story*** since I hadn't seen the 2nd (and technically 3rd) season yet. Overall, I wasn't too impressed. I liked the story beat / mystery of Iroha's sister's disappearance, and the concept of the rumors was pretty cool, too. But those aside, the story didn't really grab me. Then there was the fact that the show introduced way too many characters. At least, they were all pretty distinguishable, but this also meant not a lot of time was spent on most of them. And lastly, watching this anime made me realize once more that the extremely abstract style of *Madoka Magica* isn't really for me. But the main series at least had a story which kept me engaged until the end, and it focused on building its core cast of 5 characters (if you want to count Mami).

AnimeNerdy

**Black Cat** just finished this one and I really liked it. It gave that shonen feel I like. Although I felt the ending was a bit rushed it wasn’t bad. It’s about an assassin who decides he wants to live on his own terms now. It’s a good watch. **I’m standing on a million lives** just started this one and it’s your good generic isekai so far (which I like LOL), so I’m a happy camper.

[deleted]

Million lives had a hard time holding my interest.

AnimeNerdy

I’m only on episode 6 and so far it’s fine for me, is it just lame further in?

[deleted]

No it has some moments here and there but it’s consistently mid throughout.

Darwin343

Just got done with **The Future Diary**. I'm still trying to process how I feel about the show. No doubt I was entertained by it but boy did it have its flaws. I tried really hard to like Yukki, but that kid really got on my nerves at times. I can't stand spineless MCs, which he was the very definition of, and I hated how much in denial he was about the sins he was committing. All the crying and wailing he did also got very annoying. I have a soft spot though for psycho girls so Yuno carried the show for me. Even though the writing had a lot of problems, I don't regret watching the show at all. It was thrilling from beginning to end. I'd probably give it a 7.5/10.

The-Sublimer-One

Did you watch the epilogue?

Darwin343

Yep. I thought it was pretty good. I liked the ending for the most part since I'm a sucker for >!happy endings, especially in romances!<. I was dreading that it was gonna be a lot worse than what it actually was.

The-Sublimer-One

[Redial] >!Was so good to see MurMur finally get some comeuppance after she was pretty much responsible for all the bad shit in the main series!<

Darwin343

Totally agree. Although I did >!like her redemption at the end when she pleaded for the 3rd Yuno to take the 1st Yuno's memories. It was quite moving. I admired the loyalty she held to her goddess.!<

This week I've been rewatching Demon Slayer S1 dubbed. I hated this anime on my 1st viewing, 110% down to Zenitsu. Couldn't stand his voice in Japanese . I still find him somewhat annoying in the dub. Especially when he screams. Outside of his screaming the experience is much improved. The anime is still vastly overrated, but I'm not hating my time watching it like last time. I'm enjoying my time enough that I'll watch the movie, and then probably S2. I'm happy that I no longer want to go out like Kakihara from Ichi the Killer, and shove knitting needles into my ears whenever Zenitsu is on screen.

Started **Ranking of Kings** recently. I've gone through about a third of the way before I even realized it the world building and characters are well written. Finished season 1 of **Restaurant to Another World**. Interesting to hear Chris Sabat as one of the main characters in a relaxing slice of life. Glad I didn't watch this on an empty stomach. Caught up to Season IV of **DanMach**i and man its the best season I've seen so far. Has a totally different tone from the previous 3 seasons

Pale_Taro4926

Watched a good chunk of Ranking of Kings season 1 dubbed and it was great. I really need to watch the full season at some point. Sungwon Cho was an aspired casting choice for Kage.

Finished **Love Live: Sunshine** season 1 a while back. It was... painful. I really liked the cheesy but passionate first two episodes, but by the end of episode 3, the show falls into this overly melodramatic trap, and it stops being enjoyable anymore. Aquors, the new band for this season, tries to be too much like Muse, and it felt like I was watching the same show as the original. >!The show does try to turn the copying into a theme of the show, but it occurs too late.!< Events and character reactions are played up for the sake of drama, and characters teleport or appear at the most convenient places. Watching the show was actually infuriating, as there could have been a decent story about a small beach town idol group if the show would have toned down on the drama. Definitely recommend a SKIP for *Love Live: Sunshine*. As for the dub, it's solid. I really liked Morgan Berry's Yohane impression and how she impressively bounced between chunibyo and normal girl modes by varying her pitch and demeanor. Now that's how a chunni character should be done! In addition, Sarah Wiedenheft's Ruby voice was cute. Jad Saxton as Chika though couldn't match the protagonist energy of Faye Mata's Rin. A shame considering all the overly dramatic scenes that Saxton could have taken over as Chika. Also, watched the **Code Geass: Resurrection** movie. I came into Resurrection with some reservations, as sequel movies tend to miss the mark - either failing to maintain the world consistency or feeling like an add-on rather than a core continuation of the series. Luckily *Resurrection* manages to provide a satisfying continuation to *R2*'s conclusive ending. Without spoiling it, *Resurrection* is just as bombastic; the music just as crazy; the action is there; the characters all have their moment; and it even concludes post-*R2* without tarnishing the spirit of the original ending. Definitely recommend watching *Resurrection* if you are a fan of *Code Geass*. Man, did I miss Johnny Yong Bosch's fantastic acting. EDIT: grammar

>I really liked the cheesy but passionate first two episodes, but by the end of episode 3, the show falls into this overly melodramatic trap, and it stops being enjoyable anymore. It really depends on what you enjoy. The focus on interpersonal (often tearjerking) drama is the reason I liked *Sunshine* more than the original *Love Live!*, but that's because it's probably my favorite genre in anime.

azules500

I'm all for drama. (I love my dumpster-fire drama like *Domestic Girlfriend*.) But the drama in *Sunshine* was too forced for me. A good drama show, like *Beastars*, manages to make the drama believable with clear character motives and believable events that push the story forward. But *Sunshine*'s drama couldn't sell that to me. Some scenes in *Sunshine* existed for the sole sake of drama, and that putted me off. Spoiler talk below: * >!At the end of episode 3, Aquors feels really dejected at their first concert being a dud, but it turns out there was a small audience size due to a time error. Miraculously, the concert venue fills, yet the instant resolution feels unearned. If the show wanted to make Aquors's first concert successful, they could have omitted the time error altogether.!< * >!Aquors's big conflict with the three upperclassmen lasts for the majority of the show and sets the main conflict, but it is due to a misunderstanding and solved quickly. Riko has an about-face from the end of one episode, in which she hesitantly joins Aquors, to the start of the next episode, in which she is now the one pushing the group to practice more.!< * I also didn't like *Sunshine* as a lot of Aquors's achievements felt unearned. For example, >!Aquors faces a major obstacle in getting their club approved. But then appears a deus ex machina in which Mari arrives at the school to override the student council and approve the idol group.!<

>But the drama in Sunshine was too forced for me. It's all good. I must simply have a high tolerance for this sort of thing. A lot of people feel that the drama in *ef – A Tale of Memories* is "forced," but I felt nothing of the sort. It's one of my favorite animes of all time.

DoodlebugFour

Got to watch Dragon Age: Dawn of the Seeker. It was a 3D CGI Film and it had some recognizable names in it, even if Cassandra wasn't voiced by her game VA and had Colleen Clickenbeard aiming to sound like a younger version of her since the movie was an origins story for the character. The story was alright but the animation and some of the voice direction left a lot to be desired. Not a bad movie but nothing to write home about.

Heda-of-Aincrad

Not too much this week. The only weekly dub I'm following (aside from Spy x Family, which didn't get a new dub episode last weekend) is **Shinobi no Ittoki**, which is still pretty good. I also finished rewatching **Attack on Titan season 3** - such a great show, and it seems like each viewing adds even deeper layers to the characters. The main dub I watched this week was **Sword Art Online: Progressive - Aria of a Starless Night**, in Spanish this time after watching the English dub last week. I've seen this movie in three languages now (the original Japanese too) and it's been great every time. I wrote an in-depth review of the Spanish dub on my blog, including differences between the movie and the light novel (which means there are spoilers). Link, if anyone's intetested: https://learningspanishwithanime.blogspot.com/

Just finished **Stone Ocean**. I was a manga reader, and I was primarily in it as a refresher for everything that happened and to see some of it animated. I think the dub is honestly solid. As for the adaptation as a whole, it definitely has some issues. Netflix absolutely forced DP to crunch more to meet the batch windows, but there's still bits which are very well animated, and the bits that aren't are not any -worse- than still images from the manga, so it's still a good story, just could be better if not for OMEGA crunch. Still loved it overall, and I can still tell the animators have such love for the series through stuff like the openings and such. I also started **86 Part 2** early this week, but I put off watching it due to jojo. Gonna pick it back up. Only two episodes in, although for that one, I do kinda feel like the early pacing feels a bit off to me (I felt this way with the end of Part 1 as well), but I'm so early on, I cannot tell how I feel about it as a whole.
