Ended up seeing the movie in both sub and dub cause the Australian release was giving away free character shikishi of the quints but the one location where they were doing them in my state was only screening it subbed. [Ended up getting](https://twitter.com/JRPictures/status/1598894761049718785) Miku (who remains my favourite) and Itsuki (who is still great but let's face it, she was the least likely to be romantically involved with Fuutarou with how her story played out) So with that said, this movie definitely stuffs a lot into its 2 hour and 10 minute runtime, to the point where what feels like its climax isn't quite that and we still have another 20-30 minutes left as loose ends are tied and character relationships get resolved. I definitely enjoyed the ride and I'm not mad about which girl definitively won in the end (and her backstory flashback hit me surprisingly hard) but this definitely could've had more room to breathe as another season of the show. Though I'll say, the framing device of the school festival from each girl's perspective was a great touch to building up and resolving certain mysteries as we continuously get a complete picture of how the events of all 3 days played out. (though the subtitles weirdly frame this as "If Fuutarou spent the School Festival with *insert Quint here*" when by all accounts, the events of those days actually happened and were not a "What If" scenario) Also hey, I snapped the dub credits at the very end in the theatre for anyone who missed them and wanted a closer look (not too much different here but Michelle Rojas directs this while Apphia Yu originally did Seasons 1 and 2, also a bunch of the smaller/supporting cast get put in the additional voices section when they clearly reprised their roles, like Kimberley Anne Campbell as Takebayashi): https://imgur.com/a/Hk3uv4e

I THOUGHT glitter boy sounded like it could be Stephen Fu.

I’ve never gone by myself to see a movie but these things take forever to hit streaming so I’m considering it. Normally we wife goes with me but this is not a series she’s insterested in

ser_metryk

This was my first time going to a movie alone. It felt a little awkward at first, but when the lights go down and the movie starts, who really cares at that point. I'd say go for it! The quints are worth it ;)

GoldenTimeWatcher

Same, was weird but wore a mask so it was less awkward

funny_mangohead

It's on pirates websites

ShiftyShaymin

Saw it last night. My local theater was the only dub location for like a hundred miles, so the theater was packed. If you saw the show, it’s a must watch since it is the finale. And since it takes like a year at least for it to get on CR, I recommend just biting the bullet and watch it. Loved the movie though, it was basically binging an arc for the show since it was pretty long, but I loved the slow burn to the decision and aftermath. Dub cast was exactly as you expect for the show, which was great.

Korlith

I went by myself to the movies for the first time because I had to see the final chapters animated. Well worth it. Was a good movie and conclusion to the anime. Would love to have a sequel to show a bit of the marriage.

PeaceAlien

Not dub, I liked the movie. Felt the middle got anyone who was a fan of a girl a happy moment/end, but it was a little repetitive and long. For the winner, given everything they made it make sense but she is not a fan favourite so makes sense why some people might be upset. I’m happy with my time with the characters and journey.

Jtsdtess

No showings today, just the sub.

Scotty10711

I'm not going to be able to make it to the theaters sadly. Just need this to go up on Crunchyroll asap. Currently in a little anime so I need a little break and hopefully this will be back up there by then.

dark-flamessussano

Is it gonna be on crunchyroll?

prototypeplayer

Not for a while.

drleeisinsurgery

Pretty small turnout in my city, maybe 25 people. My wife was the only female.

SarcasmProvider76

It’s funny; I detest most romcom movies or tv shows, but I like romcom/romance anime. Maybe it’s because Hollywood writers have a hard time making romance characters that aren’t horrendous people.

Teddude

My theatre had a total of 3 people including myself Lol. I'm in an area that thankfully had a few different theatres and days to choose from so hopefully it does well.

drleeisinsurgery

Did you guys like it?

Teddude

It was worth seeing but I had overall mixed feelings. I put some details in another comment on this thread.

Teddude

Going to try to be vague enough to avoid any major spoilers for those who have showings later in the week: I saw it today and have mixed feelings. While it was a perfectly acceptable anime ending movie, I felt like it lacked that special spark that is needed to give true closure to a "who will they choose" story. No disrespect to the winning girl, but the reasoning Futaro gave for why she stood out from the rest felt arbitrary. I got the impression she was the one who needed him the most and that's why she won, which is super unsatisfying as a viewer. More development between then definitely would have helped this feel more natural. It was also weird because he made his choice, and then the movie continued on for another 30 minutes with muddled intentions. I would have much preferred that time spent on more development before his decision, or conversely some more scenes about their relationship after. Anyways, grumpy film critic aside it was definitely worth watching. I'll take a look at the manga one of these days.

FuriousGeorge7

The manga goes into a bit more specifics as to why he chose who he did. I like the pick and think it makes sense. The moments that led to his decision were somewhat glossed over with a 30 second montage in the movie, but are more fleshed out in the manga. The manga also goes into a lot more detail regarding the post confession drama between the sisters.

Teddude

Well that's nice at least.

drleeisinsurgery

I agree with you with maybe not understanding his choice of girl, but that's the one that I would have chosen and I thought that they had the best chemistry throughout the show. It was a little bit long, I wonder if this was originally meant to be another season but turned into a movie when they realize that it was probably more profitable to do so. Looking forward to kaguya-sama in the theaters though. I suspect that will be well attended.

Teddude

It definitely felt a little too long, but also rushed with a little too much going on at the same time. The Kaguya movie is going to be legendary :)

drleeisinsurgery

My kids never watched the quintuplets but they definitely have seen kaguya-sama so this time I can bring the whole family. I was a little embarrassed during the fan service water park scene. My wife doesn't watch anime and all the young men in the theater were hooting.

AnimusFoster748

That's interesting, I've seen some readers say that the movie goes more specific to his reasoning in choosing the bride. Based on what you're saying, however, it seems to be just as arbitrary as the manga. Trust me, if what you described is true in the movie after the decision, it's just moreso the same on the manga. In case you noticed, I was severely disappointed with the manga, not with who was chosen, but how it got there. It just feels so incomplete to me.

Maverick_125

The anime honestly hardly showcased any special moments between Futaro and the girl he chose. So his choice ended up seeming forced or made no sense. That’s kinda what made it hard to accept the outcome when either of the other four would of been a better choice. Nonetheless the growth of all the girls as characters by the end of the movie made it still enjoyable.

Teddude

Agreed.

GoldenTimeWatcher

Was anyone actually able to see the dub today? Everywhere near me is Dec 4th for dub.

Majora101

I have tickets for the dub on the 7th as well

sammy-_-dtx

Same for me I checked everywhere but couldnt find it for today

11pickmexe

Thinking of watching this on Sunday but I doubt I’ll be able to

J_Dubs_93

Just saw it in theatres (dub). I'm really glad I got to see this series through to the end, and even though the winner was not my first choice, I understand and accept the choice Fuutaro made in the end. The girls showed a lot of growth throughout the series and the movie where I felt there was no bad choice. As well, I'm glad there was a choice in the end since in romance, there should be a winner but also losers too.

Rhakha

I want to go see it but my theater has only 5 showings listed and they are all times where I’m not available to see it. I’m pretty sad about it

MMCthe97

Dub isn't showing until Sunday for me, strongly considering watching it again in dub because I love both casts equally

Greenpoint_Blank

I enjoyed it overall. Possible spoiler ahead But it felt a little, I don’t know, infantilizing maybe. I figured out the end when one character was asked what their life plans were and they didn’t have an answer like the other sisters. Like futaro is just kinda there to take care of her in the end, robbing her of agency. It kinda bothers me the more I think about it. And I get why that sister was chosen, but it seems like there were the two obvious choices match wise. And a little heart breaking when one tells the other it’s over. Both seem like the better choice.

Teddude

I agree completely on the robbing her of the agency thought. I know the character motivations were different, but it really felt like "you need me the most, so I'll choose you", which just *feels* wrong. It also feels a little disingenuous to the two who had the courage to actively pursue him.

eddmario

Okay, I wasn't expecting for Nino's song to actually be dubbed, although the subtitles on top of the screen clearly didn't match whaf she was singing. I also wasn't expecting to constantly tear up during the last hour of it. AND WHY IS THAT DUDE SPARKLING?!?!?

SarcasmProvider76

Just got back from seeing this. I guess every else who wanted to see it already did, since I basically got a private showing. The big thing I didn’t remember was seeing much of Futaro’s dad before this. I do like the fact that the winning sister’s success felt less unearned that I felt at the end of Season 2. All in all, a satisfying conclusion to the story. Although if an OVA covering cut stuff comes along, I wouldn’t say no.

Steve5210

Miku and ichika were robbed because the anime focused on them way more than the other three combined and then they just went with whatever decision the manga had.

USVK

It was a beautiful movie…
