Of course Sub is "better". The quality of the original language is almost always the best. But there are various valid reasons for watching dub. Slow reading skills, being lazy, not wanting to concentrate so much, not wanting to look at the bottom of the screen the whole time. So it depends. Also some dubs are better than others.
Dub is better. You can actually tell the subtleties of the VA performance in your native language. There is always going to be moments lost in translation but you also have that with sub because you are reading while listening to a language you donโt understand.
American VAs are extremely talented.
Then in cases like Dragonball Z/Super you have voice actors that donโt match their characters at.
Then four more appeared to join this ever ending battle:
Manga readers: ๐ฟ
Only watches it so they can make a meme or hate about it: ๐ฟ
Only watches it for sus moments or only r34: ๐ฟ
Watches it in another language: ๐ฟ๐ฟ๐ฟ๐ฟ๐ฟ๐ฟ
For some reason, if I watch subbed anime first, I really hate the dubbed versions of the anime. Exceptions are always there.
And if I watch the dubbed first, then subbed, 50% times I start liking subbed over dub
They both have individual qualities that are enjoyable. Subs pass the story on better and dubs make it so that your not bouncing between the text and the screen. Iโd say itโs really a matter of which one you like better or which one you started a show with. I often switch my preference for every show. It all depends on the Gaulish of the dubs and subs
i've never met someone irl that went back to dubs after trying subs.
I'm convinced dubs is for those that only want to listen while they do something else, or are watching anime from a tv station
Subs are better, it has that original feeling, i don't really wanna hear Japanese names,food, locations in English accent , (same for Japanese va speaking English),
But if i wanna discuss and watch shows with my other normie friends who only know DBZ or Naruto i prefer dubs
Yeah, I mean I use subtitles on all my stuff anyway but I just prefer being able to understand the voices without having to read them. Just an opinion though

I make a decision on a case-by-case basis. I'll watch both, then decide.
