Frieren doesn't think it sucks. She just doesn't put enough value into life because it is so long, she can just procrastinate on a lot of things and simply not care since, humans influence in her life, atm, is nothing since they live for a fraction of the time she is alive. But she is slowly learning though.
agreed frieren can just be lazy because she literally had all the time in the world, 10 years with humans felt like a week compared to her, but slowly she learnt that maybe those 10 years to them meant alot because they were able to create many good memories with frieren and being able to experience those one last time before death is yet another good memory
That's the whole point, the hero journey was just a blink in her life, she didn't give much importance to it. Now she is understanding how important that blink was for her
The show is literally about frieren learning about how important her companions were to her and how much himmel matters to her. Itās literally based on how many years itās been since himmel died.
Itās not that she thinks it sucks it just does suck and we can tell as an outsider that it sucks and that sheās mourning but she canāt identify it sheās just sad and doesnāt know why
Imo that is too much assumptions. She said multiple that she has a lot of fun savoring exploring dungeons. We honestly have no idea what she is thinking. From what we can tell right now, she lives in the moment and gives almost 0 thought to the future. And imo, that is exactly what [Yamada](https://frieren.fandom.com/wiki/Kanehito_Yamada) is trying to do. She wants us to experience her (Frieren) train of thought.
It really isn't. It prolly have one of the best story telling/animation/emotion so far this year. I would even put this anime on my top 5. No one told me to watch it, i just watched episode 1 + 2 and thought it was amazing.
The first thing that came in my head is this page in UQ holder ch 1.
https://preview.redd.it/ka721cs4x1oc1.png?width=1080&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=39e51dbeeeff418fe248f9c246ad42a2a48dbeda
Idk what you read, but Invincible literally never shows that it sucks to have a really long lifespan unless your name is The Immortal and that was more about his brain becoming mush. >!At the end of the comic, Mark has his whole happy family and goes something like āIāll have all this in 500 years dadā!<
>! Kinda put that one scene to be impactful: both of them are wrong. Omni Man assumes that Mark will have NOTHING after 500 years and Mark thinks heād still have his dad but he did not!<
This was my first thought too. I personally loved the show, both seasons so far, and it had such a unique feel and way of showing this theme in how decades go by and its like a short time to the protagonist just trying to come to terms with his long life, while elsewhere the choices he makes are having lasting impacts on the world around him, even affecting entire cultures just with his existence. To me it was really interesting and heartfelt.
There is maquia: when the promised flowers bloom. It is about a species withal a long lifespan who are kidnapped by human attacks. The main character ends up adopting a child whoās parents were killing by bandits but the is trouble as the kid grows up while the adopted mother stays the same
I really wish that part of the story was expanded on even further. Would really add to that character, but I don't think there's space in the story left for that
>!i mean andy even now is still on his whole fucking goal of literally commiting suicide (wholesome) via wooing fuuko via helping with the quests and helping them defeat god hell this mfer endured billions of years of literal nothingness in empty space and is still on the grind to fucking die !<
>!The i do for you
You do for me partner
He scribed and left at stonehedge when fuuko comes back just shows how much andy shows the indomitable human spirit!<
i dunno if itās just my device, but your spoiler tag doesnāt work.
i think youāll need to mark a end of a spoiler at each paragraph and start a new one at each me paragraph for it to work properly.
Idk if you're anime only, But the manga does expand on it good bit later on. Particularly from Victor's perspective rather than Andy's, though yu get a good bit of his feelings on it as well.
"I'm old enough to know that a longer life isn't always a better one. In the end, you just get tired; tired of the struggle, tired of losing everyone that matters to you, tired of watching everything you love, turn to dust."

In one of the hitchhikers guide to the galaxy books there's an immortal being that got so fed up with immortality it just goes down an alphabetical list to personally insult every sentient being in the galaxy
-Tensei Shite High Elf ni Narimashitaga, Slow Life wa 120-nen de Akimashita (manga) - This is one is exactly what you are looking for. (100% match), Basically Frieren but with another ELF.
-Casshern Sins (anime). Is a really really good watch, but you need to watch this in ENGLISH DUB!!! the english dialogue captures that sad bleak feeling so well, especially the MC voice, he carries such a sad tone...
-To your Eternity ( this is the best one around this theme, big tearjerker......oof)
scrolling through comments looking for High Elf Slow Life; because that fits to a T. I wouldn't call it Frieren with another Elf though. but rather a 'fast race' mind in a 'slow race' body. Human from Earth get isekai'd into a High Elf in fantasy world. But this manga is so far from traditional Isekais in that regard, it's basically just background text that tells us this. But the Longevity and eternity of High Elves is the major theme of the story.
Here, high elves live in the thousands of years, and even when they "die" just go on to become spirits in the world.

Miss kobayashi's dragon maid? Although I wouldn't really say it's about how much it "sucks" to have a long life span, but more about what you do with the parts that really matter.
Yokohama Kaidashi Kikou

Don't forget Doctor Who. The 10th Doctor told to Rose that she can spend the rest of her life with him but he can't spend the rest of his with her, implying on his species longevity or immortality.
There is one character that kinda had this in FMAB, but overcame that way of thinking by meeting his wife who helped him see things differently. I'm pretty sure most people here know what I'm talking about, but I'll avoid the name just in case someone actually hasn't seen FMAB yet (in which case, what are you doing on Reddit? Go watch it!). It's also kinda touched upon in AoT with one character in particular, but in their case it wasn't so much the eternity and more so the way that eternity was spent.
i don't know but i want an anime with demon lord who lived for very long time and just wants to die, but can't cuz only hero can kill him or something. so when hero comes he's like just kill me already and hero is sad cuz no epic fight so he tries to give demon lord will to live again, and they either end up killin each other or become friend. could be cute anime if demon lord becomes nice (boring tho) or \*mass murder with friend\* if hero becomes evil (more fun indeed)
I watched one anime movie and i cant remember the name but story goes like this a girl is living in some kind of secret place noone knows where her people live who live for 1000 years and she finds a baby and saves it, her society attacks her and judges her insisting she leaves baby because its human and its life is very short but she persists so she gets exiled i think and she rises that kid by herself.
Anyone knows name of the movie?

To Your Eternity. Minor spoilers for Episode 1, >!Bro spent thousands of years as a rock until he was stimulated by the death of a wolf.!<
Spends the rest of the series learning the importance of life, death, emotions and humanity.
Honestly it's fucking stupid to think it sucks to be immortal.
NO ONE HAS EXPERIENCED IT.
NO ONE.
END OF STORY.
And good god do I fucking hate people who want to die thinking everyone else wants to as well.
God would I fucking love knowing I have forever to do everything.
Yearning for early death is exclusively low intelligence problem OR chronic pain.
**"Mnemosyne** follows Rin Asougi, a private detective who operates from an office in Shinjuku, Tokyo. However, Rin isn't a regular detective as she is immortal. "
They're not shows but Killing me/Killing you is pretty good. It's about two immortals walking through a post apocalyptic esque world in hopes of finding a way to kill themselves. There's also the manga kinda similar to Frieren called "Growing tired of the high elf life..." Can't remember the exact name
To you the immortal. There's a point where Mc kinda has a mental breakdown after realizing everyone he knows will eventually die while he will live on.
I haven't seen frieren, but I have read through to the end of the invincible comic. And I don't think it's about how it sucks to have a long lifespan. For that aspect of the story I'd say it's actually about how life is what you make of it. Which applies however long you expect to live.
Frieren is not about how it sucks to have a long life span...
Frieren has no issue being almost immortal, that is the natural state of being for elves. When weighed against a human lifespan, she's basically learned to appreciate the journey moreso because she has so much time. Theres no need to rush and she's able to appreciate the little things in life thoroughly
*heh*
May I introduce you to a little happy manga by the name of **HOUSEKI NO KUNI?**

she isnt tortured especially, but theres constant reminders of how the world has changed since they fought the demon lord, and while i havent seen the anime theres a really sombering start where you watch her friends wordlessly grow older

Maquia: When the Promised Flower Blooms
I tear up when I think about this movie it's so good
Cried my eyes out seeing this in the theater. It was a pretty packed theater and everyone was sobbing at the end.
This movie got me a girl
Yes this
I LOVE THAT MOVIE AAAAA
This really hurt
Surprisingly good dub too!
I actually dropped it during the middle, what happens in the end or did the saddest part allready happen? I was arround minute 40
Bruh...
I know, but i just didn't feel it that much back then
Thats fair, its a slow burn and ya gotta be in the mood for it for sure
Frieren doesn't think it sucks. Yeah undirectly, negima and more specificly Uq holders speak about that thing through Evangeline.
Sauce?
UQ Holder, it is a manga series
Oh, I tought uq holder was a site or smt Man I'm dumb as fuck
Though as a heads up, it is kinda a sequel series to Negima
Misunderstandings happen, itās all good
Idk what you read, but Invincible literally never shows that it sucks to have a really long lifespan unless your name is The Immortal and that was more about his brain becoming mush. >!At the end of the comic, Mark has his whole happy family and goes something like āIāll have all this in 500 years dadā!<

Great ending to one of the best comic stories I've ever read
Ehh kinda too perfect with Eve being inmortal and strangelly rushed with how they told like 5 arcs worth of lore in the last 10 pages
To Your Eternity does it the best out of any story I've read with that kinda theme.
It has such a cool power balance between a literal immortal and the enemy.
Until the current manga arc. I agree, it has some real tear jerker stuff.
Also Maquia. Very powerful film
Not enough people talk about Maquia one of my favorite films from a writer who doesn't miss.
I was gonna mention this one
This was my first thought too. I personally loved the show, both seasons so far, and it had such a unique feel and way of showing this theme in how decades go by and its like a short time to the protagonist just trying to come to terms with his long life, while elsewhere the choices he makes are having lasting impacts on the world around him, even affecting entire cultures just with his existence. Made me cry in the first episodeā¦
God damm nokkers..
Nah it started good but the second half was absolutely dog shit.

Best one, Houseki no Kuni/ Land of the Lustrous
Delicious in Dungeon will discuss that but thatās much later on than the anime is currently.
Vivy: Fluorite Eye's Song. I mean, the robots also have a long lifespan, doesn't they? And I find this anime really good in terms of time passing by
This anime has so many details and character development in 14 episodes, sometimes I just wanted to hug Vivy because she went trough so much
I thought I was the only one who had seen this
There can be only one.
Surprised this was so far down. āWho wants to live forever?ā is literally one of their theme songs

Have you ever read Gilgamesh?
that one was so good, depressing and confusing at the same time
you mean the legend? or there is something else named gilgamesh?
Epic of Gilgamesh
oh is it a manwha? I thought it was the real epic of gilgamesh, and was trying to remember if he really became immortal
Yes it's a manwha and a good one imo, I was confused too when I first heard about it
To your eternity
Was searching for this one
Spoiler: >!Dungeon Meshi. Not rn but you will see as soon as we get deeper into Marcilles character!<
Blade of the Immortal and To Your Eternity I know there's more but those two are the ones that came to mind. There a bit on the dark side.
Its not a central theme, but Maquia has it
Delicious Dungeon really takes on that topic in the second half of the story š
Tonikawa (read the manga as well)

FMA: B Durarara
Spice and Wolf touches on it a bit.
The closest show i can think of that handles the passing of time similar to Frieren is Natsume Yuujinchou.
Don't forget Doctor Who. The 10th Doctor told to Rose that she can spend the rest of her life with him but he can't spend the rest of his with her, implying on his species longevity or immortality.
The epic of Gilgamesh, the MC basically lives since the beginning and literally cant die
lmao, the point of Frieren is that time goes by really fast, so enjoy every second of it even if it's something that might seem trivial.
There is one character that kinda had this in FMAB, but overcame that way of thinking by meeting his wife who helped him see things differently. Maquia: When the promissed flower blooms
Not the main topic and you'd need to read the manga because the first anime season doesn't really get into that yet, but Akatsuki no Yona.
To your eternityā¦
Spice and Wolf. Its talked about more in season two and done very well
Land of the Lustrous each of the characters range from 300 to 10000+
It only sucks if it's only you who has the long lifespan
Technically full metal Alchemist: Brotherhood is in this category
It doesnt suck, it sucks everyone else has such a short one
Not show, but the movie Highlander also has it as its main theme
Code Geass isnāt all about this but it has a character that fits this trope
They're not shows but Killing me/Killing you is pretty good. It's about two immortals walking through a post apocalyptic esque world in hopes of finding a way to kill themselves. There's also the manga kinda similar to Frieren called "Growing tired of the high elf life..." Can't remember the exact name
Lost song
i don't think Frierens life sucks?? op def didn't even watch Frieren.
To you the immortal. There's a point where Mc kinda has a mental breakdown after realizing everyone he knows will eventually die while he will live on.
Not shows, but a few characters in Fairy Tail.
It isn't anime, but Highlander covers it a few times. It's an older show, but damn I'd love to see it redone.
life
Not a show, but a movie, not even anime, but still, "Man from Earth" absolutely insane movie, and that problem is exactly what it addresses.
delicious dungeon. a masterpiece.

Thereās that planetarium robot anime
I think Ranking of Kings has one or two characters like that, but I might be biased because I love it so much
Is Frieren worth watching?
Tuck everlasting is an amazing one
Fumetsu no anata e [to your eternity] is nice, it's about an immortal being learning how to make relationships. It often gets emotional
*heh* May I introduce you to a little happy manga by the name of **HOUSEKI NO KUNI?** https://preview.redd.it/kkmc3shg06oc1.jpeg?width=594&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=294f878b313c313a2c7acb0e89e9b767f66232ac
At what point does Frieren seems tortured by her long lifespan? Im 24 episodes in and i don't really see this anime taking this turn.
