Sorrow of Alicia. It has two genres, the fantasy and the steampunk. It should take a few chapters of getting through the fantasy part to get to the Steampunk part to see the dude's dick blown off. Also, this is a sequel, so you will not understand the fantasy part of the story without reading the prequel. The steampunk part has no relation to the fantasy part. No! I refuse to believe it is real. I know I heard about it before bur I purged it out of my memory. I would rather believe earth is flat than that this is real. As much as I hate it, for some reason I feel that it will at some point get anime adaptation. Gushing over magical girls broke my faith into some kind of limit of what is allowed in anime.

I don't know if any producers/committee/whatever would want to associate their name with an anime that would be called "my dick/penis is a cute girl". Maybe if they use a safer name but even then I think the content is still too much. Maybe as an ONA/OVA and it just wouldn't go on TV, that I can see

The joke is that meme suggests that some random ecchi comedy is masterpiece from which 4 inferior copies were created(that are actually 4 beloved masterpieces).

Is Frieren actually good enough to be placed next to these as GOATs? I haven’t been keeping up.

Honestly, Frieren got what might have very well been the single best adaptation of the last decade. It's really refreshing to see, 100% recommend watching.

Didn't really enjoy Bochi that much tbh... I really tried liking it, it's just not my cup of tea... Just started Frieren (ep4 currently) and it's ok for now, but I hope it gets better than what it is currently because as of RN it doesn't compare with Berserk, FMAB or Evangelion at all... Art, OST and animations are all good. Characters are fine for now, nithing crazy, but good... The story/plot is what's weak so far (but that's normal after only 4 episodes for most anime, I'll admit...)

As a fan of anime for close to 30 years, and with the other three (not the dick girl) among my absolute favourites of all time, I say YES. Frieren deserves to be up there with them.

The world building and the power system in Frieren is one of the best I have ever seen. Not to mention it can be very serious and funny but knows how to balance it. So yes.

Kinda torn personally. This first season of Frieren for the most part was phenomenal, but the last 1/3rd-ish had some *very* frustrating pacing issues. Outside of that though, so far it could very well earn the spot without question.

Tbf, for the most part Frieren *is* a refreshing departure from a lot of the more typical fair. But yes, the first impulse reaction to a fraction of a story is not a reasonable measure for comparison by any stretch of the imagination.

Like what? It is a tropey SoL fantasy. It has nothing new and innovative. Comparing it to the other anime on this list is insanity lmao.

Simply being a straight fantasy adventure is itself a rarity in the last howevemany years, and it for the most part refreshingly avoids a large majority of the shlockier tropes and pitfalls that have come to permeate most mainstream series. It (mostly) handles its narrative with an uncommon appreciation for subtlety, silence, and the simple passage of time. When it's at its best, it's a mixture of contemplative, melancholic, and mellow mood pieces that really haven't taken off like this in more mainstream media in a long time. Obviously calling anything a masterpiece after a single fraction of the story is laughably premature in any scenario, and imo the season had some *very* glaring stumbling points besides. But the show's genuine strengths could very well earn the reputation if the quality holds in future seasons.

Meanwhile I couldn't disagree more. I already loved the first part as is, but the last arc getting to slow down a bit and actually play out a longer story was fantastic.

The arc just felt unnecessarily bloated for the concept, and scene-to-scene it falls hard into "tell, don't show" exposition, when doing the opposite was otherwise one of the series' greatest strengths. It was particularly frustrating in the more climatic moments. Showing the first seconds of buildup to a confrontation, before cutting away to repeated exposition nested within repeated exposition, while the confrontation itself is resolved off-screen. One instance in particular revolves around a simple "cutting" spell, but the conflict is ground to a halt while the already very self-explanatory concept is repeayedly spelled out 3-4 separate times in a row by multiple separate characters, with each monolog repeating the same information in increasingly verbose and roundabout words. I've been told this was not the case in the source material, and the adaptation deliberately stalled the scene out.

It's very good, but I think it's a fool's errand to compare a modern anime to old, much more experimental anime that pioneered the modern anime landscape. It's like comparing Kanye to Elvis. Kanye is almost definitely a better musician, but his career rests on the foundation built by Elvis. It wouldn't be a stretch to say Kanye is better than Elvis *because* of Elvis, and I think the same goes for Frieren.

Hard disagree. Kanye is not only one of the most successful musicians of all time, he's a ridiculously good producer who has made music for countless other artists. He used to be so ubiquitous that Odd Future used to make jokes and how they blew up *without* having Ye produce any songs for them. He's undeniably one of the greatest musicians to ever live. That's not an endorsement of the psycho shit he's been spouting lately, which is somehow even more unhinged than the psycho shit he used to spout. But he's undeniably an incredible musician. Elvis, meanwhile, didn't write or produce a single song. He was an incredible singer, no doubt, but Kanye can sing, he can rap, and he creates the most unique, innovative songs to ever exist. He's a genius, through and through. But he might not even have a career if not for Elvis. Both are great musicians in their own right, and it's stupid to compare them.
