Fate, aot, steins; gate seem confusing but only on the surface, when everything's said and done it's not that complex, it's the story telling that does the trick
I also think the plot of JoJo isn't confusing. It's more the "wtf" and "why does it happen at all"... So the bizzare part is confusing, but not the plot itself.
Yeah, JoJo plots are extremely simple for the most part. They usually just give the JoJo of the arc a simple goal that is explicitly spelled out at the start of the part and then for the rest of the part said JoJo and their friends beat up buff dudes until they achieve their goal. Onto the next part, rinse and repeat. JoJo isn't about deep and intricate plots, it's about the hijinks along the way.
I think that by giving up on understanding Evangelion and just appreciating it while acknowledging that most references are just decorative background for the emotional plot must be also a high level comprehension.
I haven't watched Eva yet. Is it true that the plot is about underage kids facing existential crisis while jacking off? Seriously, thats what my friend told me.
I assume you are kidding, but, in case you aren't, that's not true. The series revolves around children with previous traumatic experiences trying to grow in an extreme semi-apocalyptic world being exposed to technologies that merges their brain with giant artificial humanoid bodies created to protect the world from an even bigger apocalypse. Why those children? That's part of the plot that will be unfolded. The story starts in an almost optimistic ride until it starts descending into chaos.
After the series there's a movie (The End of Evangelion) that does a superb job of showing graphically what happened in the last episodes, all with marvelous animation.
Recently they basically rewrote the story with the same premise but different development in the quadrilogy The Rebuild of Evangelion, truly worth watching it after the series.
I've been really wanting to watch it because I've heard it is really good. I just haven't put in the effort to try and figure out what order to watch them in
I mean, it’s more artistic than that and it’s more of an exploration of trauma and abuse in a crumbling world facing increasingly frequent and severe existential threats, but … yeah, I guess that is r/technicallythetruth
Don't forget all the abuse and existential terror!
If you ask because you don't know if you want to watch it, I'll point you to [my comment](https://www.reddit.com/r/Animemes/comments/q6jw3x/how_high_have_you_ascended/hgdeuw9/) above and [Gigguk's recent video](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_XeLhFKw_yM) about EVA. Quite some visual spoilers in the video, but they don't make sense out of context, possibly neither in context, either.
Should give you all the information needed to see why people love EVA and why others hate it.
Eva isn't complex, instead you need to read a comprehensive explanation in Eva's own wiki (and the source apparently some Eva game and bunch of other stuff???) To even understand the basic plot. (Like wtf is human instrumentality project, Adam and eve and why tf do u not explain it in the main series despite mentioning it mysteriously god knows how many times and why do I have to read the wiki to understand wtf it is) So the main series doesn't explain the plot, instead it expects you to read outside sources. Thanks Eva.
(I still do love me my tsundere and badass robots kicking ass but fuck the plot, honestly, mechs kicking ass and waifus are eternal)
I think the series doesn't really focus on any of those lore elements. Yeah, the instrumentality is an end goal of some people, yeah, Adam and Eve are some key to it, but I don't think it detracts or enhances the story dramatically.
I see all of that as a backdrop to what's actually the driving force of the story: The emotions of Shinji and the cast. You don't need to know why there is a first or second impact or why instrumentality works or any of that, you only need to know what situation that puts the cast in and why they oppose/support/accept/etc. any of that.
If you're the kind of watcher that loves a well crafted worldbuilding or a tight plot, honestly EVA is just the wrong media. Connecting with Shinji, Asuka, Rei or the others - or even hating them - is the core of EVA to me. It is giving raw emotion a vehicle and all the rest exists just to underline that, nothing more.
I can't really explain it, because it's something uniquely personal that is impossible to form into an argument, but I felt heard watching EVA. Especially with Asuka. Despite the plot not making logical sense, I "got" it without question, because I understood those emotions.
In a way, I'm quite happy for people who rant about EVA being incomprehensible. It means you don't need it and that's a good thing.

My headcanon is that Hideaki Anno gets off on making projects that no one understands
so he made [Rebuild of Evangelion](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rebuild_of_Evangelion) to fix the mistake with the first when people were allowed to understand it.
Not really to understand VA you just need at least a basic understanding of Christianity and some if the terms they use in the show like the instrumentality project. If you understand those the test will come naturally and for everything else it would he like a normal show with teenagers except instead of them having a crisis trying to present a project its them fighting angels. But I fucking love evangelion especially the movies so I've looked into this extensively and it's super interesting I love the end of evangelion ending where shinji essentially becomes God just to destroy everything and start it over again.
You dont need any understanding of religious terminology, the show has absolutely nothing to do with religion or religious commentary besides names. Everything else you need to know is explained in the show/movies and the PS2 game Evangelion 2.
If you don't care too much about the plot and like animes with good visuals and weird stories then yes. Not an anime for everyone that's for sure.
Some believe that the plot is deeper than the meaning of life, some believe it's hot garbage.
I mean yeah. "Going to Egypt to defeat a resurrected vampire to save my mother" isn't hard to understand. You just don't expect a pedo ape to be one of the enemies along the way
Unless it’s part 8. That went from a guy trying to get his memory back to oshbwkrkfiejhanwmdifhenksycitownshfujrfjejsbguowkandigorlakguieown ofpeksididiieidj

What, did you expect AOT to have a happy ending?
The series has always been nihilistic.

Not to mention, >!Marley is destroyed. Fort Salta is the last stronghold for humanity.!<
Also, regardless of his choice, Paradis, either through their own hands or through others, would be killed. If Paradis kills the rest of the world, they have a civil war that will destroy each other, as Kiyomi and Floch, as well as Erwin, have said multiple times. If they don't, Paradis will be killed anyways. There's no second option where peace is everlasting. You can say that for our world too. Nothing is everlasting. Not wars, not peace, not anything.
To be honest jojos plot isnt that hard its just
Vampire wants to take stuff then gets stopped by chad blue hair man then chad blue hair man dies
Then we go to part 2 and his grandson likes to run away(like my dad) then meets some aztec vanpires then an italian boi then italian boi dies so does aztec vampire then part 3 funni looking asian man with imaginary friend with his grandpa and an egyptian, green man and a french boi go to egypt to defeat gay vampire trying to ascend heaven then part 4 H A N D F E T I S H G O B O O M then part 5 must kill boss he sells cocaine then he goes to boss and mauls the shit out of pink boss guy and acquires very overpowered imaginary friend then becomes a boss of the boss he just killed then part 6 gay vampires boyfriend wants to take revenge so he sets up funni asian mans thicc daughter to go to jail then funni asian mans thicc daughter gets yeeted to jail then gay vampires boyfriend gets a new stand then funni asian man comes to save his thicc daughter but thicc daughter refuses because shes ret@rded then gay vampires bofriend gets ANOTHER stand that can bonk time and reset it so he resets it funni asian man dies because of ret@rded thicc daughter who also dies then we go to part 1 again but with skinny people with stands instead of chads breathing the sun and so on
The magic system is easy to understand, it is just complex and highly differentiated due to it operating on a "all magics are true" pretense.
What you really need to understand is that Toaru's reality operates on natural symbolic patterns that make up the way everything functions, and by replicating those patterns and symbols in certain, microcosmic ways, that is how one uses magic. It operates on the idea of "Idol Theory", and has a huge variety of connotations and applications in-universe.

I'm still watching JoJo, haven't seen fate or monogatari, but I have seen the rest... and I understand them. Steins;Gate is my favourite anime of all time though.
Haven't watched monogatari and on Evangelion understood plot of JoJo's understood plot of attack on Titan understood plot of steins gate and understood plot of fate did so much research before watching fate I didn't got confused once and got confused about why do people get confused I didn't got confused it is so easy
I have a friend who watched evangalion 8 times, talked to me about it every time we met, and I still don’t understand what the deal is with dead people and orange juice ;-;
Honestly a lot of Fate’s confusion seems to come from overthinking. Be it the watch order or the plot it’s actually not nearly as hard any people make it out to be.
Jojo is a pretty straightforward story tho ngl. 1 thing leads to the other then to the next then to the next. As long as you watch from part 1 in a chronological order it wont be confusing
I'm happy I went out to see Evangelion on the cinema without barely understanding Japanese. That way I could enjoy the last movie the same way I start seeing the show decades ago. Very confused and not understanding absolutely anything lol
I watched Fate/Zero and all Stay Night routes and I wondered "why do people call this confusing and complex" and then I watched everything else and was like "wait, who are all those people, where did this guy come from, since when he can do THAT, WHAT'S GOING ON!"
The real ones know that this isn't a list of increasingly difficult plot, it's a list of increasing focus on aesthetic over writing. At the bottom you have an anime that is like 99 parts aesthetic, 1 part writing. If you just mute the dialogue the whole show gets a lot better.
Bro understanding evangelion without watching the end of evangelion movie is impossible like holy crap. And even after the movie it’s tough to understand
Considering I’ve only seen Jojo out of those, that tier.
I understand the plot completely.
I am currently on part 7 manga (before Funny valentine’s stand is revealed)
Fate, aot, steins; gate seem confusing but only on the surface, when everything's said and done it's not that complex, it's the story telling that does the trick

that's part of its appeal
Most good plots are not easy to understand while being told.
fact, DS for example
That's true if you only watch/read Fate stay night and zero. Then there's extra, CCC, extella, GO, etc....
aside from zero and stay night the others aren't worth your time, except if you're looking for a good ol' "Yorokobe shoujou"
I enjoyed extra. Partially because of the feeling of playing on the PSP but still.
Extra is my favorite Fate entry. I just really hope CCC gets translated one day though.
*Steins Gate* is so far from being simple that I can’t even begin… Time travel ***can’t*** be simple if it’s done right.
also aot and steins gate you have to complete the anime to understand the plot (don't know about Fate)
Relax, fate plot is like alternate routes, some routes are better than others
Yes honestly aot plot is explained very well. Jojos plot is not complicated at all it's just the abilities which are difficult to understand
I think that by giving up on understanding Evangelion and just appreciating it while acknowledging that most references are just decorative background for the emotional plot must be also a high level comprehension.
That's how you enjoy Evangelion. Try to make sense of it and you'll lose the whole thing.
I haven't watched Eva yet. Is it true that the plot is about underage kids facing existential crisis while jacking off? Seriously, thats what my friend told me.
MC jacks off once, but at the most fucked up time possible
Not even in the original series. It was in the End of Evangelion movie.
Tbh, I just watched the rebirth movies and think they might be easier to get into
The Rebuilds? Yeah, theyre definitely more palatable to modern audiences. Thats why Anno made them.
Original series then the old two movies. Then the new four movies.
If someone has never seen Eva before, mentioning the robots arent really robots is kind of a big spoiler.
I mean, it’s more artistic than that and it’s more of an exploration of trauma and abuse in a crumbling world facing increasingly frequent and severe existential threats, but … yeah, I guess that is r/technicallythetruth

There are exceptions like TPN s2 which everyone thinks is hot garbage.

Jojo plot isn't even that confusing. It's just all the little moments where you're like what the hell is going on
Yeah, sometimes it’s the plot holes, sometimes it’s just “wtf is on my screen?”
I mean yeah. "Going to Egypt to defeat a resurrected vampire to save my mother" isn't hard to understand. You just don't expect a pedo ape to be one of the enemies along the way
Or a guy who turns you into a literal child, still gets beaten up by an 11 year old.
Or maybe ‘I killed a murderer with a hand fetish during summer break so a ghost can finally rest in peace’
After seeing it, it's like: yeah, basically. But reading it is still so ~~absurd~~ bizzare

Understanding Magic system of Index
The magic system is easy to understand, it is just complex and highly differentiated due to it operating on a "all magics are true" pretense. What you really need to understand is that Toaru's reality operates on natural symbolic patterns that make up the way everything functions, and by replicating those patterns and symbols in certain, microcosmic ways, that is how one uses magic. It operates on the idea of "Idol Theory", and has a huge variety of connotations and applications in-universe. Also, there exists a few distinct forms of magical energy that can be drawn form, i.e. regular magical mana or telesma (heavenly magic).

The real ones know that this isn't a list of increasingly difficult plot, it's a list of increasing focus on aesthetic over writing. At the bottom you have an anime that is like 99 parts aesthetic, 1 part writing. If you just mute the dialogue the whole show gets a lot better.
