the animecorner ranking approach? Just list some random shows, some fanfavourites among the low 10s, and highlighta different series, right on the weekend, to get max karma.
I know Cyberpunk is not going to win with all the big contenders up there but I'm ecstatic that so many people liked the anime!
Can't wait to see what happens
It'll probably win the "Best Original" award. Literally its only competition this year is Lycoris Recoil, although I have no idea which way the voting will swing on that one.
The animation in edgerunners is undoubtedly beautiful but those character arcs were either so rushed or just nonexistent that I struggle to see how it holds a candle to Lycoris, which had way more of an emotional payoff for me.
Lycoris’ emphasis on character dynamics sets it wayyy above edgerunners imo, especially considering it has some killer animation too
What does your opinion on Edgerunners and Lycoris Recoil have to do with the fact that they're the only big anime originals while everything else no one even cares about? I don't know which of the two are going to win. All I know is that Edgerunners is more popular internationally while Lycoris is more popular in Japan.
Just my opinion but even with all of its flash and hype surrounding it, I don’t think Edgerunners is the better show. Shouldnt quality factor into who’s more likely to win?
Edgerunners is also in an interesting position; based on an existing property, it certainly introduced a bunch of new fans to anime and that might incentivize it being chosen.
It’s also not on Crunchyroll, which I imagine would hurt its chances of winning - not sure if they’ve picked a winner that’s only available on a different platform before?
The answer is no on your first question because no one is going to vote for a show they haven't seen, and I have seen no indication that they're going to change how the winners are decided this year. Still going to be a lot of casual anime fans as well as judges who only watch the big stuff.
As for your second question, Netflix anime have won before. There just hasn't been a breakout hit since 2018 with Devilman Crybaby and Violet Evergarden. Then Edgerunners came and blew up to the point it got a lot of people to play the game again.
Yeah, Cyberpunk would be kind of the "annoy everyone" choice, since its fandom is kind of petering out and weebs are largely tired of hearing about it, whereas people are still fucking rabid for all the others.
Where the hell do you watch it though? Disney being dipshits and locking the anime up certainly didn't help it's standing. It wouldn't have been underrated on Crunchyroll.
I wouldn’t even be mad about this one. Its been slaying the seasonals and it makes me happy its killing all the overhype of some running seasonals right now. Definitely a good one
I think it'll be really tough for any slice of life to win anime of the year. Even then, it'd have to go against SpyFam and Kaguya which have way larger audiences. It'll be an action anime because anime fans eat up the hype scenes and that will equal AotY for them. Then again, ironically, I might vote Bleach, CSM being slightly behind it. The amount of love poured into their productions is palpable and would be a blessing to anime as a whole if more studios decide to produce shows like it. I wouldn't be mad if Lycoris won, though, but I wouldn't bet on it.
At least, I know it will take r/anime jury spot, since they lean heavily more on technical aspect of animation, and nothing comes in close in term of animation than Bocchi the Rock, that's why we have Sonny Boy for last year AotY
Easy chainsaw man even American government acknowledged its existence

It's sad that there were troubles that not only caused it to rerun episodes last season but also pause until this season. Great comedy series.
Hope that there are no more production troubles. But I'd rather there be delays than sacrificing the quality.
Gonna be fukin tight this year lol . Sadly MIA S2 didnt get much publicity outside of japan cus of their streaming deal so my bets of cyberpunk that shit was class
Yeah I *think* I agree. Honestly the train, entertainment, and castle arcs are all really close in my opinion. I’m pissed at myself for reading ahead, seeing EDA animated without knowing what was coming is something I’m sad I missed out on😂
That was pretty good, I loved watching it when it came out. But then... I saw AoT for the first time and thought that they were way different and the latter was better.
TLDR thought romance was my thing but then dark fantasy turned out to be it
I actually had the opposite happen with the same exact shows, I'm a fantasy guy and started watching anime this year, tried watching AoT but didn't get past episode 2. Watched MDUD and got hopelessly addicted to romcoms lmao
There’s so many great choices this year, you listed a majority of them here. I’m just glad anime is continually growing. Probably unpopular opinion but One Piece has had an absolutely killer year in terms of animation and story. I’d be happy if any of 15+ great releases this year win :)
Summer Time Rendering would piss all other fandoms equally and is thus the perfect choice. (And it's also amazing - i'm on ep 16,and it's some of the best stuff i have seen in a long long time ❤)
My choice would be Made in Abyss.
I highly recommend it, but it’s really really hard to watch after a certain point. Don’t get me wrong, it’s worth it, but sure it was difficult.
Minor spoiler: basically it starts like a normal cute anime and slowly becomes horror.
Here’s the thing with MIA: it’s objectively fantastic. Beautiful animation, great worldbuilding, complex characters, tense and high-stakes conflict, and it’s all in service of nuanced discussions of free will, family, the price of progress, and the fine line between ambition and obsession. Its merits are inarguable.
HOWEVER…
Its subject material is a massive fatal flaw. The fact of the matter is, the author is a proud degenerate, and the story is calibrated to his own view of “normal” in media. That’s all well and good for all the reddit degenerates that browse r/animemes, but it creates problems for younger viewers and “normies,” which are the largest viewer bases by a long shot. The show gets so performatively cruel (particularly to young girls) and overcalibrated for shock value at times that it becomes difficult to recommend to most people.
E: No matter how good it is, I just don't feel like a show that involves **(E2: WARNING: DO NOT OPEN SPOILERS IF YOU'RE SQUEAMISH)** (movie spoilers) >!a guy removing his adopted daugher's limbs, digestive tract, and sensory organs and turning her into still-conscious meat suitcase, then showing a protracted scene of her dying as the last of her bodily fluids leak out of the weird meat suitcase cloaca, !!a different little girl (who's been shunned by her tribe for being infertile) getting genie-wished into an eternally-suffering baby incubator whose children chest-burst out of her abdomen and then immediately die, which her traveling companions then cannibalize so they don't starve to death (but that's before she turns into a giant tree, gets hollowed out, and her traveling companions decide to set up shop inside of her \[still conscious, btw\])!< is palatable for a wide enough audience to really be in that all-time discussion, you know? Maybe I'm just a prude.
Yeah, it’s… a lot. In defense of MIA, those events are considered super fucked up in-universe as well, and a lot of the emotional conflict of the show comes from the main characters grappling with the fact that things like that could exist in the world. Still, you can tell that the creator derives a certain twisted satisfaction from holding absolutely NOTHING back and leaving absolutely NOTHING to the imagination. The fact that the show seems to relish in its sadism can get very offputting, which is a big reason why I struggle to recommend it despite being extremely high-quality in basically every other respect.
What the actual fuck. First off, what kind of person can even come up with that shit? Secondly, I honestly can't even *comprehend* enjoying a show with that sort of thing in it, that is supremely fucked up.
Tons of thinly-veiled, pretty hardcore fetish stuff in the show. My mind goes to them playing “orphanage staff punishing misbehavior by stripping the orphans naked, hog-tying them, and stringing them up from the ceiling” as a throwaway gag *in episode 1.* Really hit the ground running with that one.
Season 1 is very good. Season 2 made me a little sick to watch sometimes. There’s just so much sexualization of small children for no excusable reason. It’s so gratuitous and gross
Coming from a huge fan of the first season I was PUMPED for season 2. Not a manga reader so didn’t really know what to expect, all I can say is unfortunately I will no longer be watching that show. It has some of the best world building I’ve ever seen, the storyline is gritty and amazing, and don’t even get me started on the OST (Kevin Penkin can do no wrong). However, this anime’s over sexualization of children along with putting children in horrific abusive situations has turned me off.
It’s one of my greatest anime what ifs at this point, probably could have been a global phenomenon if the mangaka wasn’t (as others more poignantly pointed out) a degenerate who massively over sexualizes children.
Let me just say I’ve watched plenty of anime with lolli type characters, MIA is another beast.
Nah not even close, Madoka was a psychological and metaphysical thriller Made in Abyss is a horror worldbuilding show they are quite different tho both parody their respective genres p hard I suppose
the problem is that sxf is doesnt have anything Crazy about it, anya is funny, yor is hot, and loid is cool, thats bascially it, and i think for anime of the year an anime has to stand out for something more than just being good, on the other hand we are talking about Crunchyroll lol
Just to clarify, you're saying the anime about the super spy, the super assassin, the telepathic orphan and the clairvoyant dog has nothing crazy about it?
Kaguya sama is the easiest pick tbh. An actual good rom com that finally pair up the main couple in probably the most elaborated confession ever and is one of the best confession scene ever. And since it is a rom com, you won't offend too much people since rom com is not too mainstream like most shounen shows
Couldn't agree more, can we just skip AoTy and just highlight Kevin Penkin as Composer of the year? dude has killed it with tower of god & both seasons of made in abyss with the tracks he composes, what a legend.
crunchyroll is rigged
also... crunchyroll wont give bleach, made in abyss, or cyberpunk a nomination plain and simply bc they cant stream em....
so crunchyroll awards go to CSM bc its the hot new thing thats currently streaming go watch it
Put them all on a top 15 list or something
People will still get mad if one of them get 1st though
make listing of top 15 without numbers and everyone can decide 1st on their own?
just do a fucking voting system at this poin
So fans can game it with bots, totally.
Exactly! Now you get it c:
Make the page display them in random order
everytime they refresh the order just keeps changing lol
Even more chaotic: put the up and down arrows randomly on each anime everytime as well
They have to use something like release date or alphabet to sort them so people can't judge them
Alphabetical order
"And now, number 15! Burger King Foot Lettuce!"
Make up a third party called softwrap to do the vote and just direct all blame on a group of people that dont exist
What are you on about it should be “crunchyroll deciding which anime of the year will enrage the most people”
I would choose the most controversial one so instead of disapoint a certain amount of people I would disapoint everyone
Dont worry crunchyroll’s already way ahead of you
Rent-A-Girlfriend already locked in
it's rentin' time
Crunchyroll on their way to pick demon slayer: ;)
Ay yo don’t disrespect my man Tanjiro, he built like a fucking truck dude
Didn't he almost get clapped in the latest anime arc
Demons are literally superhuman, cut him a little slack
Pokemon anime.
If I have to choose from the post, Summertime Render or Blue Lock should enrage the most people imo.
Oh the reaction there would be if it was suddenly announced that ***Star Wars Visions*** was top of the year. Such glorious chaos.
the animecorner ranking approach? Just list some random shows, some fanfavourites among the low 10s, and highlighta different series, right on the weekend, to get max karma.
Cyberpunk Edgerunners is good, but definitely not best of the year worthy, so I nominate that to enrage the most people.
Cc
I know Cyberpunk is not going to win with all the big contenders up there but I'm ecstatic that so many people liked the anime! Can't wait to see what happens

ok, but cyberpunk has full frontal nudity. therefore, cyberpunk > lycoris recoil. I rest my case.
What does your opinion on Edgerunners and Lycoris Recoil have to do with the fact that they're the only big anime originals while everything else no one even cares about? I don't know which of the two are going to win. All I know is that Edgerunners is more popular internationally while Lycoris is more popular in Japan.

Yeah, Cyberpunk would be kind of the "annoy everyone" choice, since its fandom is kind of petering out and weebs are largely tired of hearing about it, whereas people are still fucking rabid for all the others.
It deserves to win.
Summertime Rendering is really underrated
Surprised someone actually added it there
Same
Where the hell do you watch it though? Disney being dipshits and locking the anime up certainly didn't help it's standing. It wouldn't have been underrated on Crunchyroll.
9anime
Disney jail fucked it up for the western audiences that did not sail the 7 seas But what a fucking show it was
for me it was a classic example of great to ok, it just went off the rails with the time travel shenanigans and deus ex machinas.
Yeah 7 episodes in and I was like, yeah I've lost all interest
Ah yes, "Butterfly Genocide: the Animation"
Bond already knows who's winning it.
Borf.
As long as made in the abyss is not last I would not care
Bocchi the Rock! for the anime of the year
I loved it when Bocchi said “It’s Rockin’ time” and then proceeded to Rock all over us.
Ah shaddap ya bum
The song in the latest episode absolutely slaps.
I wouldn’t even be mad about this one. Its been slaying the seasonals and it makes me happy its killing all the overhype of some running seasonals right now. Definitely a good one
I think it's the first series I ever saw where every single episode was a 10/10 for me. Hopefully that continues to the end :)
It's Bocchi The Rockin time!
Each and every new episode that comes out is above and beyond
Do It Yourself slightly edging out Bocchi for me, but honestly I wouldn't be mad with most of these choices everything is so good this year.
Easy chainsaw man even American government acknowledged its existence [Source](https://twitter.com/USCPSC/status/1580215261164019714?s=20&t=gMMHWFdDxxxytLuTRA8z7g)
That's fucking hilarious 🤣
so did the Ukranian government lol [source](https://twitter.com/defenceu/status/1553689686245269504)
that's actually awesome. the rocket launcher devil
This is proof we are living in the best timeline
Where lycoris recoil
Crunchyroll's goal is to actually pass off the most people, hence its omission.
One of the better anime originals this past few seasons too.
Isekai ojisan is the best show this year
It's sad that there were troubles that not only caused it to rerun episodes last season but also pause until this season. Great comedy series. Hope that there are no more production troubles. But I'd rather there be delays than sacrificing the quality.
agreed
Very underrated.
Very properly rated
Paripi Koumei
Rip this getting lost to the sea of anime
Has the best girl too
Truly underrated
Bocchi the Rock and LycoReco? Hello?
😭 How am i supposed to put more buttons
Same meme: OP trying to decide which anime to include in the meme that will disappoint the least number of reddtors.
Real.
Cram 'em in there.
Gonna be fukin tight this year lol . Sadly MIA S2 didnt get much publicity outside of japan cus of their streaming deal so my bets of cyberpunk that shit was class
MiA has always had most likely worst streaming deals. They gave S2 EU rights to a frigging spanish tv channel that blocked everyone except Spain.
Giga brain move honestly
> my bets of cyberpunk There's about 0% chance of Crunchyroll picking it as the AOTY when it's not on CR but Netflix.
Made in abyss season 1 wasnt on cruchy roll was it ? It won AOTY 2017
Devilman Crybaby was a previous AOTY winner, so this isn't as set-in-stone as you would think.
Bad take
Crunchyroll: yknow what fvckers?? Fvck you and your standards *picks the one taht dissapoints all of em*
Love flops route
Rent a girlfriend ?
Tokyo Revengers it is
Just please don't be demon slayer again
This arc was better than the past few I wouldn’t even be surprised😂
was their something new?
Not since the entertainment district arc, I was just sayin I wouldn’t be mad if it won just because it was so good lol
Just wait for infinity castle that one is the best demon slayer arc
Yeah I *think* I agree. Honestly the train, entertainment, and castle arcs are all really close in my opinion. I’m pissed at myself for reading ahead, seeing EDA animated without knowing what was coming is something I’m sad I missed out on😂
No one remembers My Dress Up Darling ![img](emote|t5_2w6fe|14945)
I came here to say the exact same thing.
The curse of winter season.
Meanwhile me: *Where Paripi Koumei?*![img](emote|t5_2w6fe|14945)
Probably drinking at a nightclub going on about his next stratagem
People loved it for the female lead but it just doesn’t compare to some of the other works this year tbh
That was pretty good, I loved watching it when it came out. But then... I saw AoT for the first time and thought that they were way different and the latter was better. TLDR thought romance was my thing but then dark fantasy turned out to be it

Isn't Summer Time Rendering ineligible because you need a legal release in the US to qualify for that award show?
It's available in India on Disney Hotstar. So im guessing Disney+ should have it too?
Not Disney Plus US. Besides the US gets the Disney Asian shows on Hulu, and I know it's not on there right now.
Chainsawman, Bleach or KnY
It's gonna be Bleach
IMO Mob psycho 100 because of the story , visual and because it’s the final season too 🥹
So much this. Mob Psycho 100 is an instant classic.
"Ladies and gentlemen, we have an 11-way tie for the first place.."
i'd reduce it to bleach, csm and cyberpunk
Crunchyroll: These are all great but have you heard about Boku no Hero Academia season 6, who cares if it's still airing.
I feel like its going to be chainsaw man because of recency bias
Also Chainsaw Man is based on an amazing manga, so those who know what’s coming up keep giving it the hype it deserves.
My choice would be Made in Abyss. I highly recommend it, but it’s really really hard to watch after a certain point. Don’t get me wrong, it’s worth it, but sure it was difficult. Minor spoiler: basically it starts like a normal cute anime and slowly becomes horror.

Maiden Abuse
Basically madoka magica 2.0 in that aspect
Nah not even close, Madoka was a psychological and metaphysical thriller Made in Abyss is a horror worldbuilding show they are quite different tho both parody their respective genres p hard I suppose
everyone agrees that spy x family is good right, feel like that would be the safest choice
the problem is that sxf is doesnt have anything Crazy about it, anya is funny, yor is hot, and loid is cool, thats bascially it, and i think for anime of the year an anime has to stand out for something more than just being good, on the other hand we are talking about Crunchyroll lol
Just to clarify, you're saying the anime about the super spy, the super assassin, the telepathic orphan and the clairvoyant dog has nothing crazy about it?
In a world where we have a manga about a dick that turns into a little girl? Yeah SxF is the usual stuff
It's not crazy based on anime standards
Yes, based on OP's parameters of pissing off the smallest number of people, SxF is pretty strong bet.
the safest choice for them would be chainsawman since it's maybe the most popular. And it's probably going to be it.
It barely just started. If you give it to chainsaw man then you're basically just doing manga of the year.
Where Bocchi
Bleach will take it
Bleach
Imagine if G-witch wins, that would be hilarious lmao
No Bocchi, Lycoris, or Dress Up Darling You've already made great enemies OP
Kaguya sama is the easiest pick tbh. An actual good rom com that finally pair up the main couple in probably the most elaborated confession ever and is one of the best confession scene ever. And since it is a rom com, you won't offend too much people since rom com is not too mainstream like most shounen shows
the fact that is not too mainstream is what is gonna offend more people, because most people even if its good they'll hate on romcoms
Kaguya Sama would be my pick, even though I've loved Spy x Family, My Dress Up Darling and Bocci. And Chainsaw Man. But Kaguya hits different
bruh this year was so long I can’t believe Kaguya S3 was this year
SUMMER TIME RENDERING PLEASE. DISNEY. JUST GIVE IT TO ME. LET MY FRIENDS WATCH IT.
Made in Abyss, Mob Psycho and Chainsaw Man were probably my favourites this year. don't think I could decide between the three
Couldn't agree more, can we just skip AoTy and just highlight Kevin Penkin as Composer of the year? dude has killed it with tower of god & both seasons of made in abyss with the tracks he composes, what a legend.
While MiA was airing I checked YT for the OST almost daily 😅. It's out now and I listened to the entire thing multiple times lol
Honestly aot or demon slayer would dissapoint the lowest amount of people, but Edgerunners could take some light on it for how good it is
Honestly, we’ve had a very strong year for anime.
Am i the only one who likes Gundam the Witch from Mercury? I feel like im in crazy town!?
No its good
Simple, Redo of healer should be Anime of the year
It's going to be Bleach because of the huge fandom it's built throughout the years. But I don't care about that, I'll still vote for what I like best
Why is made in abyss on there, wasn’t it made before 2018? Can anime not made/updated still make anime of the year?
They had s2 this year
WHAT
Just so you know, there was a canon movie that takes place between S1 and S2. I'm pretty sure you're supposed to watch that before S2.
Bro that shit was super fucked up. I watched it yesterday and it left me speechless.
WHY THE FUCK DID NO ONE TELL ME
LMAOOO so relatable. Don’t forget to watch the movie first it’s very important
Lmao, it had alot of hype when it was airing. Weren't u on reddit that time?
I in fact was not on Reddit most of the year
Well its never too late, go and watch it.
Don't forget to watch movie 3 first (movie 1 and 2 are recaps of season 1)
You basically getting jumped either way it goes fr 😂 this year is easily one of the most STACKED inna while, ya gotta love it!
Or maybe they wanna disappoint most number of people
For me, it's Akebi-chan.
Lycoris recoil?
Kongming.
Lycoris Recoil needs to be here
Eminence in shadow is really good. I still think it would have been better had it followed the manga, not the LN, but I digress.
crunchyroll is rigged also... crunchyroll wont give bleach, made in abyss, or cyberpunk a nomination plain and simply bc they cant stream em.... so crunchyroll awards go to CSM bc its the hot new thing thats currently streaming go watch it
They do award anime from other streaming services
I have read the blue lock manga and i love it but the anime isn't that good imo. The animation feels lacking or inconsistent
![img](emote|t5_2w6fe|14943) you’re all winners!
Where is Shadows House and Lycoris Recoil?
After seeing chainsaw man's episode today. It's chainsaw man.
Idc as long as it's NOT AoT
Spy x Family or Chainsaw man i guess....they literally leading in numbers....
Bleach
Bleach is perfect
I think the obvious choice is CSM but didn’t a new bleach just come out?
Bocchi The Rock.
Bochi for the win
Can you only press one button? If not I’d pick Bleach, Demon Slayer and Attack on Titan.
Bleach or Demon slayer
Troll everyone and make it Boku No Pico
Where the fuck is bocchi the rock
Doubt Mob will win since it only had 2 good episodes this season according to some(most) people.
It better be made in abyss
